About 12 years ago, my wife got tired of dry skin and electrical shock due to cold weather in Kansas City. She had a whole-house GeneralAire 1099 humidifier installed on the furnace. It came with a manual H-86 humidistat which seemed to work fine....until we woke up one morning to ice covering the upstairs bedroom windows. True enough, the house felt better that first year or so but the effect seemed to wear off in the following years. Consequently, I'd turn the humidistat to a very low humidity level at the start of winter or just never turned it on. This year, I replaced the H-86 with the automatic, external-temperature sensing SEH-7100-000 from Skuttle which costs about $50. Some aspects of the Skuttle literature are misleading....and almost made me not buy this device. For example, the maximum allowed length of external temperature sensor wiring is 30 feet according to Skuttle. I spliced 18 gage solid copper wire onto the supplied 22 gage stranded sensor wire for a total run of 60 feet with excellent accuracy. The installation manual was equally vague in regard to how the Test Function worked in automatic mode. It turns out that you must connect the sensor for the Test Function relay to close the Output port. The on-board LED turns from RED to GREEN when the sensor is connected....and this significant hint was never mentioned!!! I also elected to power the SEH-7100 using a dedicated 24VAC transformer (10 VA) and power the solenoid valve using the switched 24VAC transformer(40VA) from the furnace. Instead of running sensor wiring parallel to existing 120 VAC house wiring, I ran it perpendicular to house wiring whenever possible.

Overall, this is a great product...despite the literature and installation hint shortcomings. The house seems warmer at lower temperature settings...and we also seem to sleep better at night. This is the best $50 I've ever spent for heating equipment....

I picked this up a few weeks ago, just as my allergies started to act up again. I was looking for the best bang for my buck, but with my background I also wanted quality.

What's really great about this unit are all the different filters and UV light. The HEPA seems high quality, and the activated carbon is so great to have I won't go into the chemistry behind it, but it makes a huge difference in air quality. Throw in the UV light, and you have a high end air purifier.

It's nice and quiet on the lower settings, but on high it does sound like a fan running on high, obviously. The only thing I would change is adding a remote control. It would be nice to turn it on from the other end of the room. Other than that, this is a steal.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I use this on a relatively small area. Obviously, with a 400 SQ ft cleaning capacity, it's not a whole house purifier. It's better suited for one large room or multiple adjacent smaller sized rooms combined to 400 sq ft. I use it in my living room and close the doors to all other rooms when in use. You must run the unit with all doors and windows closed for it to be effective. The unit is small and relatively quiet. It can easily be stuck in a corner without being too obtrusive. It runs quiet on low and pretty quiet on medium fan speeds. The high fan speed is moderately loud but still quieter than most box or window fans sound at high setting. The purifier has touch sensitive controls instead of hard buttons. It comes pre-assembled with the filters already in place, however, you must open the unit to remove the plastic wrapping from the filters. The replaceable filters have a rated effective life of six months to a year, with the exception of the carbon filter which is rated 60-90 days. The amount of use and pollutants in the environment, such as heavy dust or pet dander, affect filter life. It also has a UV light for killing mold spores and certain bacteria. The UV light can be turned on or off as desired.

Thanks to higher than average temperatures for most of September, I haven't had many opportunities to close the windows due to the heat and need for fresh air. I have fall allergies, so when the temperatures finally dropped, I could not wait to run the purifier more regularly. I primarily run it during the day while I'm at work and overnight while sleeping. Although my fall allergies don't seem quiet as bad as normal this year, in the interest of full disclosure I've also been taking a new much more effective allergy medication since spring. The one thing I have noticed is less lingering odors, especially from the pup. I don't know if it's the dander being removed or what, but it seems to keep the area where we keep our pup crated smelling a bit more neutral instead of doggy-like.

The true test will come in the spring when my allergies hit full blast and even the new and improved allergy meds aren't able to cut it alone. I'm hoping the Luma will give me that little extra edge if we track pollen or other irritants into the living room. Other than that, I'm satisfied with the ease of setup, use, quietness, size and what effectiveness I've been able to observe so far.

The various speeds help deal with different issues like wet dog smell or bursts of pollen. My partner isn't a germ-o-phobe, but he is aware of germs. The ultraviolet light has given him a nice sense of comfort.

A warning: A couple of the filters come wrapped in plastic, so be sure you go through them to remove those layers before using. Also, one of those filters is a carbon filter. It is a bit messy, so handle carefully unless black powder doesn't bother you.

So I tested this unit in both situations and am quite pleased with the results. The new home no longer had the musty smell after only a couple of days, and this gave significant improvement to the smell of the flooded basement. I really felt the air in both situations was significantly cleaner. The unit is also easy to use with customization options in both power and time, which is handy. This is a fairly basic purifier, nothing terribly fancy, so those looking for a lot more bells, whistles, and wild results might want to look elsewhere, but I found it great for basic usages, though on its highest level its noisier than other purifiers I've seen/heard. I've noticed other reviewers commenting the highest level of sound isn't bad, but it does bother me. It's attractive in its white simplicity and the shape makes this very space-friendly.

Reviews of Aluminum Travel Humidor for 12 Cigars with Cutter

Bought this prior to going on my honeymoon as I wanted to have a method to transport my cigars that would be relatively protected.

It states that you can hold 12 cigars in this humidor. That was not my experience. Note the location of the cutter, hygrometer and humidification device. Those lay almost directly over 2 of the cigars. The foam underneath of the hygrometer was deformed by being packed in so close. The solution here is to remove those devices and carry them seperately. I personally use heartfelt beads in a cylindrical container to maintain the humidity.

The hygrometer was off by about 12% (12% low). Place a tablespoon of table salt in a tupperware container and then add 5 drops of distilled water to the salt. Put the hygrometer in the container and seal it. After 6-8 hours the relative humidity in the container will be 75% (verified by my digital hygrometer) and you can see how far off the analog hygrometer is. Mine displayed right about 63%.

The humidor is lined with foam; foam is not the ideal substance to store cigars, but it does provide some protection. I was unhappy with how shallow the top 4 cigar cutouts are; they caused a significant amount of pressure against the cigars being held within them. I "seasoned" the foam to the best of my ability by wiping it down with distilled water.

The steel cutter developed surface rust very quickly (no surprise) but works just fine. There is no backing on it; it is in a double-bladed guillotine style.

For $50 I want deeper foam pockets, a flush face on the hygrometer and a little more foam in between the cigar cut-outs. The cigars got rather crowded in there.

If I was to do it again I would get a reinforced plastic carry case (which come in closer to ten bucks) and then fill the open space with paper towels while travelling. For $50 I could have bought a cutter, heartfelt beads, the container and maybe even a cigar.

Cut the price on this in half and I'd give it a hearty recommendation.

I received this fountain as a gift. It is easy to set up and assemble for the first time. The pump is fairly quiet, and the sound of the water falling is quite relaxing. The fountain design is beautiful, and the rocks included in the box are very pretty to look at.

My problem came in that when the fountain needs to be cleaned, and it will need to be cleaned because if you don't run it for a few days, the water tends to form scum, that you have to remove all of the rocks and try not to make a mess with scummy water everywhere. Then, when you drain the water out, the fountain is assembled in such a way that the slate cliff-like levels have to be removed or they'll fall out.

Also, after about 9 months of regular usage, my pump quit. I wrote to the manufacturer and they told me to mail the entire fountain to them and they would replace it. This fountain weighs about 7-8 lb and for what it would cost me to mail it, I may as well purchase a new one, which I didn't.

I have bought many Homedics products in the past and have been quite satisfied with them all, but I guess I shouldn't have expected so much out of a fountain under 30.00.

The bottom line-while it is certainly a lovely, tranquilizing product, which my cats also loved, it's not all that durable. I recommend a fountain to anyone who wants relaxation but please realize they're not all that durable.

I purchased this for myself with a gift card. It looked beautiful, but it was actually a bit of a pain to maintain. Firstly, the water splashes out a bit, so since I had it on wooden furniture, I had to put a towel under it. Secondly, my house water is hard, so there was a lot of mineral build up over time. It's plastic, and it's not easy to clean. The mineral deposits don't really scrub out completely. On the positive side, the sound was nice, it was pretty, and I could readjust the rocks anytime to alter the flow. I did throw it away after about 2.5 years.

I am enjoying my new tabletop fountain. It has a definite zen feel and look to it. The base is black with a subtle ornate design to it. I have not noticed it making alot of noise, as some of the other reviewers have stated, but I try to make sure that the pump is totally submerged (this cuts down on the sound). It comes with the river rocks which are beautiful in themselves. I also put it together myself and the directions were easy to follow (and I'm not usually good with that stuff!. Some negatives: You need to place alot of the rocks in the fountain so that the light column doesn't show through so much. If you don't you just see this column of light and the zen feeling goes out the window.

I have been trying to get the piece replaced, but have found the company has refused to do so, due to the product being shipped more than thirty days prior to the request for a replacement part. The part should not cost them more than a quarter, but they refuse to work with me on a replacement. Just a reminder, if you buy this product from this company, open the box and ensure all the pieces are available before your thirty days are up. I bought this to put in my office at work, only used it during the work day (8hrs x5 days/week), using clean drinking water. I had one of these about 10 years ago (different brand, I'm sure of it, but same basic design) and it lasted for about 6 years in my home with near constant use until I broke the bowl in a move. The ionizing part on this one appears cheap...the ceramic looks to be 'plated' on versus having an actual ceramic 'wafer'. When this one stopped working, I noticed the ceramic had flaked away, basically rendering it useless for its intended purpose. I would go with a higher-rated model if you're interested in one of these. I'll probably seek out and buy a better ionizer to use in this one as I definitely notice a difference in my well-being with this neutralizing the static air, particulates, and most importantly, EMF generated by two computers and 3 screens in my office.
