PROs: operates very quietly and very compact great for travel and personal use by bedside at home. Bottle neck adapter has two (2) size fittings for use with standard plastic bottle. Adapter is very tight inside bottle's neck so water does not leak out. When turned upside down, metal ball stopper is water tight. Fold out 'feet' to mitigate tipping though it may not be sufficient to prevent tipping with larger bottles eg: one liter bottles. Has variable humidity adjustment which works reasonably well too.

CONs: bottle neck adapter fits into inside of bottle mouth it is not a 'screw on' adapter. A positive about this is that it'll work with standard sized bottles (supports two sizes) however removal and insertion of adapter into bottle neck is VERY tight. Some plastic bottles are very thin walled. Press fitting the adapter can be problematic as bottle's wall may collapse from applied pressure during insertion. Therefore thicker walled plastic is recommended esp. if/when larger bottle is being used. Seniors with limited hand mobility may also find it difficult to manipulate due to tight fit. NOTE: though unit comes with stabilizing pullout feet, filled bottle is simply inserted into receptor there is nothing to 'clamp' adapter and bottle to hold it in place ergo care should be taken as bottle can be knocked off unit easily. The water tight adapter will prevent the water escaping from the bottle however weight from falling bottle can/might cause damage to surrounding objects.

WARNing: Due to relative ease with which unit might tip, use of glass bottle is not recommended. Use in child's room may also not be recommended.

SUM: at price point and intended use, pros out weigh cons and therefore worthwhile purchase. Had adapter come with rubber 'O' rings for easier insertion and if adapter could have been clamped in more securely, it would have deserved 5 stars. CONs however only earns it 4 stars IMHO.

This unit is the original travel/portable humidifier. I shopped around and looked at the several imitators, but decided to go with the Air-O-Swiss name/reputation that I know and love.

This unit is tiny, and comes with a power adapter with both US and European plugs and a soft cloth carry bag.

I use it at McMurdo Station, Antarctica where the average humidity is in the single digits. It puts out less water than my full-size Air-O-Swiss unit at home, but a remarkable amount for a unit this size.

The blue light that others have complained about is fairly bright as most blue LEDs are but it's no brighter than most night-lights, and hasn't bothered my sleep. The blue light switches to a red light when the water runs out... kind of a nice heads-up feature if you don't have the output set high enough to see the "steam" coming from the spout.

Overall, I wouldn't hesitate to make this purchase again, and I'd replace this unit with the same if needed (unless or until Air-O-Swiss comes out with their own new replacement/upgrade). There are a couple other copies that are less expensive, but I haven't tried them I went with the quality/service that I trusted at the cost of the higher price tag.

This review is for the Air-O-Swiss Portable Travel Humdifier (7146).

I bought this unit to help when I travel as I often have troubles with overly dry air. The unit comes with a nice felt carry bag, the nebulizer, the power supply, cleaning brush, and bottle adapter, all of which easily fit in the bag.

I have tried this unit out a few times, and it works well, but, you have to remember that it is a very small unit, and will not turn a large room into a steamy sauna. It is however enough to make a regular sized (300-400 sq foot) hotel room or office comfortable and "take the edge off." It will do about 500 mls in roughly 4-5 hours of time on full output.

It is very quiet, with more noise being made by the occasionaly "burp" of air into the bottle (kind of like a mini water dispenser) than anything else. The mist output is very fine, and evaporates rapidly into the air without leaving a soggy mess beneath it, (though I still wouldn't place it on any important papers).

Assembly is easy, plug the wall wart in to your power source, and then into the back of the unit and flip the legs out on the bottom. Get a small 500ml (17-20oz) water bottle, fill it with water, firmly push/twist the adapter into the open top, and then gently invert onto the unit, flip open the mist output, and turn it on. The output control knob is on the same side as the power cord, which is opposite the mist output.

There's no latches or anything to hold the bottle in place so make sure the unit is on something flat and stable. The adapter has a steel ball valve in it to keep the water from rushing out uncontrolled, but still allow it to "burp" as the unit needs more water.

The only thing I did not like about the unit was that while on it has a *very* bright blue LED on it that lights up the mist output to show you it's working. Unfortunately it lights up the room as well. If you're sensitive to such things, it may make it difficult to sleep as it is really bright, however some black electrical tape or a sharpie could easily fix that issue. The LED will turn red when the unit is out of water, and of course the output will cease.

Pros: Small, relatively lightweight, quiet, very fine mist output.

Cons: Bright LED lighting.

Edit: May 2011

Just came back from a long weekend in Las Vegas where it was very windy and dry. I had set up the unit to run while I was out of the hotel room, and when I came back I could easily notice the humidity in the room when walked in a few hours later. Again, not a steamy sauna, but definitely a noticeable difference from the dry desert air and the air-conditioned casino air. It's currently in my office at work in SD where we are having a very dry and windy few days, and the small hygrometer I have in my office shows about a 10% increase (from ~35% to ~45%) from when I turned it on a couple of hours ago.

Honest reviews on Air-O-Swiss AOS 7146 Travel Ultrasonic Humidifier - Cool Mist

After my government issued ID and money, this amazing gadget is the third key thing I would take on a trip to a dry place. After three miserable trips to Phoenix where my eyes were dry and red and I felt tired and miserable, I brought this portable humidifier for the fourth trip (in as many months). What a difference it makes to sleep with the thing lacing the air with balmy droplets of water. I wish I had had it on other trips to other arid places (including, incidentally, Beijing), but also the many arid places in the Middle East, such as Riyadh. I also plan on taking it to any place cold enough to require forced air heating in winter. I really like shoes, but will leave a pair behind to accommodate this humidifier in my usual complement of carry-on baggage. It's that good!

I bought this for travel about a year ago, but find that I use it at home as well despite having 3 full-size humidifers I could use instead.

I have two full size air-o-swiss ultrasonic humidifiers and a vicks ultrasonic at home. However, this unit is so easy to use and takes up such a tiny bit of space that I have been using it at home as well as traveling. My other big units are just collecting dust in the garage now.

Part of the beauty of this unit is how easy it is to fill you just use one of your empty water bottles. No big heavy container to lug to the sink and hope you don't spill on the way back. In addition, it is super easy to keep clean because it is so tiny. you just need to brush the small chamber where the ultrasonic membrane is located and it comes with a little cleaning brush. The large humidifiers have so many nooks and crannies that they're a real pain to keep clean. Even those with the ionic silver that supposedly retards microbe growth still get gross inside.

I highly recommend this as both a night time at home and travel humidifier. If you live somewhere dry and need a humidifier 24/7,then perhaps it's not the right one for you. But for intermittant use it is perfect!

NOTE: I first tried the similar unit by sunpentown and it had very poor performance so I returned it for this one. Perhaps I just had a bad unit, but based on that experience I cannot recommend the sunpentown unit despite the similar look and size to this one.Sunpentown SU-1051W Travel-Size Personal Humidifier, White

Excellent for the price ... good for small areas, it's a little more than a fan and less than an AC. I used it because I had no way of connecting an exhaust pipe of a portable AC in this room

The heat index is in it's triple digit numbers here in Texas. Even the garage is showing 105 with the door open and a fan running. can't get the inside lower than 85-86 degrees. The AC only gets a break at night. I needed something more and I got it. After ordering my Sunpentown Evaporative Air Cooler SF-608R, it arrived in about 4-days and was put to work. The air started to cool down slowly. Let me say that even though this little cooler can't cover the size of the front room, it helped in bringing down the temp to where we run it at 80 degrees.

I'm happy to say that I'm loving it, because heat is one thing that can bring me down at my age after open heart surgery. It's made for a smaller room, but I still use it in a much larger room and it did help! Do I recommend it? YES! I only wish I had the cash flow to get a much bigger one for the garage.

If Your going to spend $110 on this item , spend $40 more and get a KuulAire. For $145 you can get a fantastic little Kuulaire swamp cooler. For $175 you can get an amazing Kuulair swamp cooler that blows like a large A/C unit. They make some unbelievable and great looking swamp coolers. They aren't going to be as quiet as this Sunpentown but this things really doesn't do much anyway. I live in a very dry climate in Colorado and this Sunpentown doesn't cool the air more than 2 degrees MAX. It truly is a complete waste of money.

Honest reviews on Sunpentown SF-608R: Evaporative Air Cooler # SF-608R MPN: SF-608R

My home office doesn't have a window that opens to put in a window AC unit, and the only wall I could cut through to vent a portable unit is visible from the street. So I bought this Sunpentown unit about 5 years ago.

It cools the 9 X 12 office by about 5 degrees here in the arid high desert. The office doesn't have a door, and I think it would lower the temps a few more degrees if the space was closed.

I have it about 4' from my computer, and have it set to swing back and forth, so it blows on the computer to keep it cool (and it does a good job) then it swings to my arm and it does feel quite cool even today when it's 95 outside and 85 in the hall just outside the office. I can immediately feel the temperature difference when I walk into the unairconditioned living room.

I put a couple bigger chunks of ice in the top bin along with a tray of regular sized ice cubes which melt fast enough to keep the fabric filter/wick damp and cool. I add to the ice about every 2 hours so I use up 5 to 7 trays of the smaller cubes and 8 or 10 larger chunks -which are about 3" square and 2" thick, made in old tupperware type containers -between 10 am and 7 pm.

I don't think having ice water in the lower compartment is worth it unless it gets completely unbearable in here. You need a couple gallons of water/ice in the lower compartment to get the level high enough to run the recirc pump, and the ice you need to cool that quantity of water and keep it cool is prohibitive unless you have 1.5 or more extra cubic feet of space in your freezer, which I do not. Plus, when you add ice it eventually fills the reservoir too high so every few hours you have to wheel the unit somewhere to drain half the water out before you can fit more ice in. For me, the outside temp has to be 110 or higher to make it worth clearing out freezer space and all the extra effort.

It works better than just a fan, and I think it was worth the price, because it was my only option other than a box fan. The heat coming off my monitor and computer processor heats up the room by several degrees and was completely unbearable before I got this unit. Now I can have the computer on all day without miserable heat.

It wasn't cooling very well earlier this year, so I finally ran some vinegar thru it and thru the recirc pump then took it apart to clean. After 5 years it's now working like it did when new. It probably should be cleaned every fall before putting it into storage to get the best performance.

Would be ok for a very small room. It does clean easily and very easy to maneuver. My advice is to make sure you put this in a small room.

Read the reviews and weep if you are a fine cigar smoker and don't have one of these. This humidor is beautiful. I don't smoke often but when I do I like to have a nice Tatuaje and this box really does them justice. I followed the supplied instructions to season the box which was a little drawn out I would perhaps buy one of the available seasoning kits if I did it again would probably make it easier. Anyway either way you'll get there and this humidor will make you feel spoiled and embellish the experience of keeping and enjoying your favorite cigar. My wife actually thought I lied about the price she thought it seemed like it would be much more expensive! Wanted this at Christmas but they have been unavailable anywhere for some weeks. Grabbed one when they appeared again and am delighted with this purchase.

This product came in perfect condition and I am very satisfied with it I am almost ready to put some fresh cigars in it.

Honest reviews on Dumaine - 30 Cigars Humidor

This is a great humidor, nice size for the average cigar lover that only keeps 20-30 on hand at a time and is absolutely beautiful for the money. It has a tight seal with good craftsmanship with one tiny flaw, the hydrometer is junk. When you pay $100 for a humidor you expect the hydrometer to at least be functional. Mine is off by a full 12 points but the real problem is it does not have an adjustment screw so there is no way to correct it. So, as long as you don't mind buying a digital hydrometer and are willing to accept the included one as "decorative" then this is a great buy.

I needed a mid sized humidor to facilitate my growing cigar collection, and wanted to find the best balance between asthetics, and functionality. This humidor hits both out of the park. I did research on a ton of humidors, and I can say first hand that the build quality on this piece is fantastic. Excellent seal, and good density to the humidor itself, and consistant humidty levels.

For $100, you can't find a better humidor. Also, the customer service at Neptune is absolutely amazing. Great all around buy!

I bought this from eBay for around $190. I have two other electric space heaters so comparison was an easy task. I bought it for our high ceiling bedroom which is about 300 sf. Ceramic heater was useless because hot air would rise up. Then I bought a Holmes Infrared Quartz Heater from Wal-Mart , this was a lot better than the ceramic heater but the fan was really noisy and there was no way to turn it off. Holmes Quartz Heater gives you SUN Like heat and the heat does not rise up like ceramic heaters. Anyways it was way too noisy, You can't have a restful sleep with that thing. Still I thought there was something right with the infrared heaters. Then I looked into Edenpure and other more expensive infrared heaters. They looked promising now that I was already sold on the idea of infrared heating but they were really expensive. Then I looked at eBay and found Dr Heater. Customer Feedback was pretty good so I decided to give it a shot. It arrived in 5 days and I first tried it in our living room which is about 700 sf when kitchen included. Dr Heater was OK, I was not too impressed but still felt it was doing something different. It did its magic when I moved it to our bedroom. In about 10 minutes our bedroom was already warm , and outside temp was 35-40 F. It was set on Auto but later that night I set it to LOW because it was getting really hot and yet thermostat kept showing 66F degrees and never shut off because I'd set it to 70. SO I am not sure if the thermostat was defective or what, it sure felt more than 66 F. Anyways when I set it at LOW it was REALLY comfortable and most importantly QUITE. That's the best thing about this heater, it is quite and you can place it in your bedroom. No other heater could heat our bedroom on LOW because of high ceilings. Dr Heater did it. Overall I give it 4 stars, I was going to give 5 but I still cannot figure out if the thermostat is good or not so there you have 4 and, it is an honest review not like the first review that is obviously written by one of the Dr Heater employees :)

I have an Iheater and the Dr. Heater and I like the Dr. Heater better. They are both good units but the Dr. Heater is smaller and easier to carry around from place to place if needed and the wheels underneath are spaced closer together thus easier to place on top of other units such as a speaker unit that is not in use or a large air purifier that I have thus not taking up any floor space if needed. It also blows heat out harder than the Iheater but in the end, I think they both kick out about the same amount of heat energy.

The Dr. Heater is made of real wood also, where the Iheater and allot of others on the market have plastic shells.

Keep in mind folks that these are just space heaters BUT they are more power efficient and do kick out a bit more heat than the other numerous space heaters that I have and I have quite a few unfortunately... I have found that they do heat very large areas by them selves but do take a while to bring it up to temperature but once there, they are pretty amazing for their portable size and the amount of wattage they use.

They are commonly used in combination with your main heat source so that the main heat source runs less, thus saving you money. The heat is a very comfortable heat and does not dry the air. It seems to disperse the heat much better than space heaters that dry the air. The heat seems to get around allot better but will still be warmer near the heat source of course.

I think if one looks at these as what they really are, in which is an efficient little space heater that kicks out a bit more heat with a more comfortable feel that disperses a bit better will be well happy with these new type heaters. If you look around you can get some killer deals on the Dr. Heater and think the price will come down in years ahead on this new technology as they become more predominant in the market place.

I like both of my heaters but I like the Dr. Heater better because it seems to blow better and whether it actually kicks out more actual heat in the end, I don't know but it makes me want to believe it does...LOL... And the bit smaller size allows me to put it in more spaces than the larger Iheater and the real wood is just a touch more American, not to mention it is well over a $100.00 cheaper thus leaving some money in your pocket to take momma out to dinner before you come home to a nicely efficient warmed house... My vote goes to Dr. Heater and if I get another it will be the same.

Best Deals for Dr Infrared Heater Portable Quartz + PTC Infrared Space Heater

C. Ferrisi may not quite understand what PTC is. I looked it up. "Positive temperature co-efficient PTC heating elements are small ceramic stones with self temperature limiting characteristics. PTC stones have fast heating response times and plateau once the pre-defined reference temperature is reached." The infrared lights produce the heat. This type of heating is how you can heat a large area without creating a huge electric bill. Which is why we have a couple around the house so our furnace (which is electric) will not kick on as often. It saves electricity without having to run around the house in a parka! LOL

Honest reviews on Dr Infrared Heater Portable Quartz + PTC Infrared Space Heater

Ok, I order the heater and they ship a used (obviously returned) unit out to me. I contact them about this and they give me the run around and keep asking if the unit is damaged. I ask why the unit was returned, they don't answer. I ask them to CC Amazon on the emails they are sending, they don't. They offer me $30 to keep the used unit, I say no, just send me a shipping label to send it back for a refund. They say "we don't send out shipping labels." I contact Amazon and ask them to step in. They send me a shipping label. I tried out the unit and it didn't heat even half of the square footage it promised. What a disaster.

I ordered the portable Far Infrared Heater Model DR-968 on 2-22-10. I received the heater in a timely manner. I began using the heater the day it was received. The heater only worked two (2) days. My attempts to get a replacement were not answered until I sent an e-mail through Amazon.com. I then received an e-mail from the company stating a replacement was being shipped out that very day. Waited a week and still no replacement heater. Sent another e-mail only to be told my replacement heater had not been sent. There had been a mix-up and the paper work had gotten misplaced. However, my replacement heater would be sent out that day or latest the next. I just received my replacement heater (3-31-10). I check it and for now it is working. Hope this heater will not stop after a couple of days. It is my opinion, had it not been for one of my e-mails going thur Amazon.com I would still be waiting on a replacement heater. I do not have a lot of trust in this company. Grady W. Conner

Filters I received were a generic brand; not the filter that came with my humidifier. I had to trim and sew to make it work. I have already had to take the filter out because it was already smelling and molding. The correct original filters lasted a long time. These are flimsy and turn to musch immediately when they get wet. I will never order them again.

I bought this filter for my Essick MA0800 humidifier and, like others who have written reviews about securing filters, I was not able to find one at local stores. The one I purchased from filters-now.com was about half the price of others I saw and it worked fine. I did have to trim about 4" from the filter to have it fit in my humidifier, but that was no problem.

I'm glad I bought two of the filters, as these will probably get me through this winter season. At $7.99 each, they weren't cheap, but Amazon had other similar filters at over twice the price. Shipping was prompt and I received my filters, using standard shipping, 6 days after I placed my order. Quite pleased with product, price, and service.

This is a great humidifier. Very Quiet and very easy to use. My only compliant is that it the full tank doesnt really last the 40 hours. I have mine set on a 40% humidity level (which is recommended) and I run it only at night when I sleep. Most of the time night I find it is not running because the levels in my house are around 37%-42% but I still find myself filling the tank after 2-3 days. An alarm goes off when it is empty, which can be annoying if you are asleep so I try to make sure it is filled at all times. That all being said I am still happy with my purchase and helps on those really dry nights.

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

PRO: It's very quiet

CON:

1. A full water tank lasts a bit under 6 hours, and the machine has a handy alarm that beeps (and keeps beeping) when the tank is empty. That means you have a rather inaccurate alarm clock that won't let you sleep more than six hours.

But wait; there's more.

2. The vapor from the nozzle on top of the unit doesn't travel very far. In fact, it drops within a couple of feet of the unit. That means you also have a very wet floor. Not damp; wet. We sopped up water with a towel.

I have asked the seller (not Amazon) to accept a return and will try to report here their response.

UPDATE: The seller (Wayfair) will accept the return, though they are making me pay the shipping costs both ways. That's not as good as Amazon's return practices, but not unreasonable for a small firm. BTW, the return is going directly to the manufacturer's (Luna) office in California and the shipment to me came from them as well, so Wayfair seems to be acting as a selling agent only.

Best Deals for Luma Comfort HCW10B Cool & Warm Mist Humidifier, 2 Gallon Output

Bought this as a gift for my daughter and her husband -they said it is so quiet and works like a charm! They are happy and so are we!

Honest reviews on Luma Comfort HCW10B Cool & Warm Mist Humidifier, 2 Gallon Output

This came in a pre-printed green, white and black product box with tight packaging inside box and delivered by UPS from Whitestown,IN.

This is very easy to program your settings into and it remembers your settings that you entered and is interesting to watch as well.

Through my trial and error tests i found it best if i use cold water with a warm setting also set on high and have the timer set for 6 hours and have it set for 70% this works for me hopefully it will for you too.

Auto shut-off on the timer one beep then shuts down and display goes dark very happy with this option,so you can(set it and forget it)at least in the timer mode anyway.

When you first plug it in it beeps twice and also when you first press the power button it beeps one time.

This only has Low,Mild, and High Settings on the display.

If no hours are set then the display shows % numbers only.

You might want to put this in an old shallow refrigerator tray or a pan to catch the residu water only after the tank is empty, because you will have some left in the cradle.

After many tries this finally went from cool to warm couldn't really tell a difference so it took awhile.

I have hard tap water for my house and no problems so far running this on that, they recommend distilled.

When first using this i used warm tap water as my first test and i forgot to time it,seemed like it used up the water fast.

My second test was with hot tap water and i timed it,i got 5½ hours on this i also had the setting on high and on warm for this.

It seemed to use up the water fast on this also.

Third and final test was with cold tap water and i got 6 hours straight with this and with settings on warm and high.

So i prefer the third test over all and that's what i'll use.

The humidifier % numbers fluctuated on the display and i had it set for 70%,which it never reached, thinking about all of this and the high price that i paid for this i probably should have stuck to a pan of boiling water on the stove like i did before buying this.

I have a Brookstone Humidity/Temperature wall display and i got the humidity gauge to go to 70% but just on this, and it didn't stay there to long either.

On my wall display it showed more wet/best setting for house humidity, this Luma humidifier cost me a little over $100 so i'm going to use this but also go back to,if i have to,to my pan of boiling water on the stove only not as much.

When you run out of water it flashes the empty icon at the top and beeps for two cycles, the first one has 7 beeps to it while the second cycle has 10 beeps and no auto shut off when tank is empty the beeps sound like an alarm on a watch, tinty high sounding.

They should have used a clear reservoir instead of a smoked one so you can see what's happening with the water level.

It can be messy at times from the condensation and sitting water left over from where the water reservoir sat in the cradle,i've had about 2-3" of water left over after the tank ran out which i think is a bit much.

I would not recommend this,i myself was a little disappointed in the performance of this humidifier.

This does have a really great timer on it very precise, also the reservior looks big but it really doesn't hold that much water like you might think.

I now have mine on a folding step stool with a towel on it and the humidifier is in a shallow container, hopefully will be less of a mess when tank is empty.

This is one of FOUR humidifiers I tried recently. I liked the look and thought it would perform well at this price. But it was huge failure. It immediately soaked the ground around the unit. They hygrometer is absolutely worthless (as it is on other units). I didn't keep it long enough to experience the difficult cleaning. Warm setting made no difference (as it is on other units). The dark plastic also made it hard to see the water level. Quick return for me.

My criteria: I'm using it for a nursery with about 180 sq ft, normal ceilings with a small bathroom attached. Not that sensitive about noise (bubbling) but limited on space so don't prefer units that need to be on shelves or stools. NO FILTERS. Considered both warm and cool ultrasonic.

I've included reviews of all the units I've tried. At first, I thought heat was the only true way to add moisture. But warm mist units are only moderately more effective and uses way more electricity than I imagined. At this point, I wasn't worried about a toddler spilling the hot water.

Overall, I'm shocked at how poorly all these units are made. Look at Amazon ratings for ALL of them; most get 3.5 star average because there is always something faulty. So strange that a simple appliance is so difficult to master. It's not even a factor of price; the expensive ones are horrible too!

The short of it: Pure Guardian is the only that WORKED.

CRANE DROP SHAPE ULTRASONIC 2.3 GALLON ($45)

Pros: Small, quiet, very little bubbling noise, easy to refill.

Cons: NOT ENOUGH MOISTURE, no noticeable change. Didn't own it long enough to clean it.

HONEYWELL WARM MIST HUMIDIFIER HWM-950 ($35)

Pros: Did produce a nice warm mist, did not make the ground wet (placed on the ground), fairly easy to refill but did drip all over the place

Cons: It broke after 2 weeks, only stayed on for 2 mins then stopped even with a full tank. It was fairly noisy with intermittent bubbling. I can handle the humming but the bubbling was impossible to sleep through.

LUMA COMFORT COOL/WARM ULTRASONIC HCW10B ($99)

Pros: Compact design, cool looking (which is apparently unusual), easy to refill (there is a handle at top of tank although most don't seem to know that)

Cons (so many that I needed bullet points):

* SOAKED the ground around it. I placed on the floor and within 15 mins you can soak a towel with the moisture (this was on warm setting). I tried it on a 3 foot dresser but it still created light moisture on the ground.

* The hygrometer function is A JOKE! It can, of course, only detect moisture right next to the unit which is where the mist falls. So, the % reading goes up very quickly when the unit is turned on and when it hits the "max" setting, it shuts off. So, the machine turns on and off in 3-5 min intervals all night long. Impossible to sleep through.

* I used the timer function which keeps the unit with the hygrometer function. This worked fine. But I still got the ground soaking and the rest of the room was not any less dry.

* FYI, cool/warm mist ultrasonic's are a misnomer; none of them produce a "warm" mist. Just keep it on cool setting.

* The dark cloudy plastic tank makes it hard to see the water level.

PURE GUARDIAN COOL/WARM ULTRASONIC H4500 ($109)

Pros: Very simple controls. Huge tank that is easy to refill (although it gets heavy) with minor splashing. VERY quiet with almost no bubbling. Mist control is awesome; on high it puts out a huge mist but you can easily dial it back down. Within one hour, you can notice the change in moisture. Has auto shut off; no timer or hygrometer which is fine. Mist DOES NOT soak the ground when I put it on a dresser. No idea why they thought an "hour" rating was important; who runs it for 144 hours?. I ran it at 50% of the mist power and it lasted 10 hours overnight with ~15% water left.

Cons: It is UGLY and big! No idea why they needed to make the front dial so big. The night light function is just annoying so it is always off. Like my other reviews, the "warm" mist makes no difference. I'm sure their smaller units would have been just fine for my needs.

This is identicle to the unit I use on the wall of an indoor pool room. I like it well enough to by this as a back-up. Often when something fails, the replacement is clunky and a different size. This dehumidstat works perfectly, looks sharp, doesn't take up much space, and is a very reasonable price.

The product was excellent. I thought I had ordered a horizontal unit and I received a vertical unit. When I installed it, the vertical unit fit much better. Shipping was fast. I am very happy!

A great little humidifier. Well worth the money for its functionality...the cute appearance is a bonus. It is not loud at all and really cranks out serious humidity.

I got the penguin humidifier a week ago after researching multiple brands, some expensive ones, filter ones, big ones, warm ones, etc. And I read the reviews about it leaking or breaking on this one, and essentially there was some complaint on just about every brand out there--always a few problems. So for the $30 this one cost (and the fact that it is ridiculously adorable!) it seemed to cover what I needed: something that was not expensive, not too large and bulky, smaller reservoir so more fresh water going through it (and less water sitting around getting ookey) and would add humidity where ever it was.

It has been running almost non-stop for a week, minus filling times or when we were out, and has worked perfectly. The body reservoir, even when running on high, has lasted at least 16 hours. I haven't had problems with white dust on everything like my old-fashioned gigantic noisy one (I use tap water), and it doesn't spray water drops out with the mist either. It definitely made a difference running at night in the bedroom--no noses and throats feeling 'dry as dust' in the AM. The penguin has a small footprint, about 9" diameter and 12.75" tall. It runs almost silently BUT it does make a trickling noise and actually sounds like our tabletop fountain. It's a nice sound during the day but wore on me during the night; I wasn't used the sound and I kept thinking it's leaking when it wasn't. So now I run it for a while before bed and I sleep much better all around.

Things to watch out for though... the reservoir opening where you fill it, there is a screw-on cap with a spring-valve (like what's at the bottom of your coffee maker basket). There should be a silicone O-ring that fits in the top of the cap. Our O-ring was inside the opening, and since it was clear-ish could be easily missed. The O-ring could cause the cap to leak if not seated properly and the cap needs to be tightened snuggly. When filled and righted (there's even a little handle to carry it by) it should only drip slightly out of the spring-valve. Check that nothing is clogging the spring-valve by pressing it in (before filling) and that the flap is not folded. Only use COLD water in the reservoir, and if you boiled water WAIT for it to be room temp before using. Using hot water could definitely cause this plastic to crackle and crack. The body must sit squarely on the 'butt' or it can dribble over the side a tiny bit.

We have had absolutely no problems with this little cutie, and if I do I'll update my posting. It has a nice rocker on-off switch on his 'left butt cheek'. It has a dial on the front (I'll call it his bellybutton) to adjust the amount of mist; even on high he doesn't drip. The mist dial doesn't seem to affect the fountain noise at all; i.e. the lesser misting does not lessen any gurgling it does. A great little design and it does the job!

This frog humidifier is wonderful. I'm so glad I finally decided to get one after reading reviews on it since last winter. Unlike this picture, the actual product is a true Granny Smith apple green, or some might call it lime green.

PROS

-quiet

-no expensive filter required. (my Holmes humidifier requires a new $13 filter about every 6 weeks)

-shuts off automatically when it runs out of water

-easy to refil water

-simple and easy to use

-cute!

CONS

-tiny green light is on when humidifier is in use and I persoanlly like a very dark bedroom at night. I just tape a dark piece of paper over it and problem solved. But it can also be a night light for a child's room.

-must be on a nightstand or some sort of elevated surface. Some people might not have that room to spare.

-it may be TOO cute and irresitible for little ones to keep their hands off it at first. But the newness wears off.

Honest reviews on Crane Adorable 1 Gallon Cool Mist Humidifier

I purchased the Inhaler after reviewing other comparable devices on the Internet. What sold me was the price and the name brand.

I've been using it whenever my sinus is blocked and it does a great job. Very low maintenance and the cost (water + a bit of electricity) is close to nothing to what it uses.

The face mask (I'll call it that) fits me well but I usually keep my head a few inches away when the steam really starts to engage. I surely don't want to fry my nasal passages and it could easily do that if I continue to keep my face right up to the mask.

I know I could use those menthol pads but the cost is high even searching around on the internet for lower costs. What I did instead is purchase those pocket Vicks inhalers that is not only cheap but very effective too! I usually stop for 30 seconds between steam sessions and inhale through each nostril about three times and then continue on with 5-10 minute sessions doing this for 20 minutes or so. Works real well.

I think the device will last me years and years and the maintenance with white vinegar is also low cost!

I received my personal steamer today; it's compact, requires no assembly, is easy to use and the flow of steam is adjustable. The face mask is relatively comfortable and it was relaxing to inhale warm, moist air during the treatment. Cleaning instructions appear to be simple. As promised, sinus and chest congestion were loosened during the first treatment. I highly recommend this product.
