Great for the price. The pad is made of paper, but since you should replace it every year that is not a problem. The do make a aluminum pad, but it is not really necessary and just adds cost. The paper pad is coated with something so the paper does not fall apart.

Cheap Honeywell HC26P Whole House Humidifier Pad
Honeywell makes 2 different pads. HC26P1002 is made out of paper and coated with an anti-microbial coating. HC26E1004, which costs more, is a clay pad with Agion coating, the coating is silver ion anti microbial, not just plain anti-microbial. I like the clay product better.

Sunbeam SWM5250-UM Reviews
I purchased this model about 2 years ago. We live in Nothern MN and in the winter it is very dry. This particular humidifier we use in my 4 year old son's room. This past weekend my wife and I awoke to the sound of a fire alarm and the smell of smoke. We quickly got up and I ran for the fire extinguisher in the kitchen. I realized it was coming from upstairs. As I ran through the hallway I saw my son standing there shaking. I ran into the stairwell and saw smoke. When I got upstairs it was filled with thick gray smoke. I went into my son's room and saw the humidifier belching smoke. I immediately unplugged the machine and opened the windows to get a breath. The humidifier malfunctioned. When it runs out of water it is supposed to enter a stand-by mode. Instead it kept operating a nd melted through the bottom, through the area rug, and scorched the wooden floor underneath. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS MODEL HUMIDIFIER! Here is a link to a similar incident with the same model humidifer,

Purchased this unit because of the price and it was filter free. Worked well for a few months and then quit working. The reset light wont turn off. I have followed the cleaning directions as stated in the directions and am now left with a unit that does nothing. Don't waste your money on this. I am never buying another unit from them again.Best Deals for Sunbeam SWM5250-UM
I ordered this unit used because I know the hit and miss with humudifiers. First the unit is quite large, the water tank is odd shaped and doesn't hold enough water for me personally. It also leaks a small amount on the rear of the unit directly below the screw, on high I would call the amount significant. Running on setting number 2 or high the water supply last approx 5 to 6 hours. It works well and puts out a decent amount of moisture but I would not purchase again.Honest reviews on Sunbeam SWM5250-UM
Cheap model, no humidistat, runs continuously until empty. Sounds like a coffee percolator that you can hear throughout the adjacent rooms. Sunbeam should stay with kitchen appliances like their toasters that were the best. Took it back to Walmart. The whole water tank gets very warm, waste of electricity!!Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Sunbeam SWM5250-UM
My mother has one for over 2 years and it worked flawlessly and whisper quiet. Then, filling it one day, she dropped the tank and it cracked around the bottom seam. I went to Walmart to buy another, set it up, and it: 1)was already cracked at the top (which I did not notice until later) and 2)leaked no matter what I did to re-seat the tank and investigate the problem. Returned it to Walmart and used a good clear 2-part epoxy Loctite Megabond Poxy-Pak Fast Cure Clear Two-Part Epoxy, 1 oz syringe to seal and fix my mother's cracked tank. Now her unit works perfectly again. I would definitely buy another, despite recently getting a defective one. It's just continued to work so perfectly for my mother.Sunday, December 28, 2014

These are True HEPA replacement filters. They are well made and have a rubber gasket seal around the entire filter. The accordion filter paper is securely seated with a generous amount of glue. They also came individually sealed in plastic wrap. Truly made with care.
My last filter was nearly black after about 6 months of regular use so I'm glad that stuff is in the filter rather than my lungs.

Don't get me wrong, it is beautiful. Unfortunately, I was looking for a tea pot that my wife could use to make tea. When it showed up, it had a label that said "not for drinking purpose." It should have said that in the listing. I have checked many of these that were listed as not for drinking. This did not and yet it did list that it was solid brass. I thought brass was good for potable liquids. It is too small to be practical as a steamer. It is also made in China.

Just wanted to drop a note about the 'care and feeding' of this excellent dehumidifier. When it works it puts out a prodigious amount of condensate. But mine only worked about 3 4 yrs before I began to notice a drop-off in output. Both Sylvane and Therma-Stor have been wonderful to work with....but finding someone to work on it has been a chore, and its not over yet.
Turns out I was on the Last day of the 5 yr sealed system warranty but Therma-Stor had no problems honoring the 5 yr warranty. Given this thing weighs a goodly amount, I can envision a host of problems packing it up securly not to mention the cost of sending it to Therma-Stor for repair. And Therma-Stor agrees. They told me to take it to any local appliance repair facility (none of theirs in my area) and they would send them the parts, making me responsible for labor only. After all it is quite simply a standard refrigiration unit that works really well at collecting condensate. Easier said than done. The first place I took it was highly rated but I called ahead just in case and they said "bring it in, we'll take a look at it". They had it over two weeks before they decided there wasn't any profit in it for them and told me to come pick it up. The thing is, they apparently make their profit on parts, and mine were covered by the warranty.
I have other repair options (brother in law in HVAC business) and will pursue these, but Therma-Stor is proudly a business that puts the customer first. I emailed the repair recomendations to my contact at Therma-Stor and here is the response I received from him this morning;
"Mark, Thank you for the kind words. It was my pleasure to help out in any way that I can. That is why we are here. I will process the order to have an evaporator coil sent out to you so that a repair can be made."
Several days later and I have a brand new evaporator coil.
Thank you Therma-Stor.
But if yours ever starts to go bad on you, don't hesitate (like I did) to let them know.
UPDATE: Brother-In-Law has the unit and the new evaporator coil. He actually seemed delighted for the opportunity to tinker on something in the workshop. But from another review I read whose evaporator also went bad, it seems some repair facilities just don't want to burden themselves with this kind of work. I'll write again after the unit has been repaired.
Worked beautifully when new; I'd have recommended it to anyone (and did to several people).
After two years, it had to go back to the factory for warranty replacement of the evaporator. One year later, back again for another evaporator (both at their expense under the three-year warranty, which has now been reduced to one year). Now (one year later), I've unplugged it because it was running constantly to maintain 52% RH at 70 degrees, and extracting about only 4 pints a day. ThermaStor would service it under warranty, but I'd have to ship it back (a significant hassle) and pay shipping this time; and our local HVAC guy doesn't want to touch it. It's time to recycle it. I give it one star; that's five stars for design and engineering, and minus four for quality and durability. Maybe this was just a lemon, but I suggest you pay attention to reviews from folks who have had theirs a couple of years or more.
The folks at ThermaStor were pleasant and good to work with; no complaints there. It's just that I expected the unit to last a lot longer than it did.
I love it when it works but about every two to three years it has a compressor or evaporator issue, and needs major replacement parts. It is now 10 years old leaking Freon again, so it is setting in my basement not working and turned off. Keep in mind this unit never gets moved or disturbed in any way. Its in a normal clean basement that is not even very cool. I am using my 20 year old cheap 30 pint as a backup once again. These problems don't appear to be a batch issue, as this has been spread out over a 10 year time period. Local repair people really don't like to work on it. For what it's worth, local repair shops have not returned calls, or just don't want to follow up on the original diagnostic service call.
Foolishly I recommended it to some friends and to my embarrassment they both had similar problems. So that's three times for me and the same for two of my friends. I really wanted this to work but I can't ignore the track record of three users with major problems. Just another great idea poorly executed.
Is there any negatives? If there was only one it is with dehumidifies in general. This unit will run down to pretty cold temperatures but won't dehumidify very well like any other dehumidifier in the cold. Anything over about 65 degrees and it will dehumidify beautifully. If it is under that it won't do as good of a job. So what I did is since our basement will typically get into the low 60's/upper 50's in the winter I found a solution. All I do is take a small portable heater and set it next to this unit and presto! The basement will once again be in the 20's % humidity despite the basement being colder than the rest of the house. In fact just this week my wife dryed an oil painting hung down next to this unit :)
Would buy again, and this wonderful Santa Fe unit saved my lungs.

My Santa-Fe Classic (Originally the Sahara) has been replaced twice by the factory and once by my personal extended warranty.I love it when it works but about every two to three years it has a compressor or evaporator issue, and needs major replacement parts. Honest reviews on Santa Fe Dehumidifier - Whole Basement Dehumidification - Energy
We have owned this unit for almost 3 years and it runs perfect. I had really bad allergies and mold issues in my lungs during the summer from living here in humid missouri.....not any more. We operate this unit in our basement and we have a 3 level house with each level having about 700 square feet. We have it draining into our floor drain in the laundry room. We chose not to hook it up to our central system, but we can still turn on the central fan and let me tell you what it will do.....So if we turn it all the way up, and just run it in the basement, it will pull the humidity down to well under 30% which feels wonderful on the lungs. Now if we turn the central fan the humidity will be around 30% in the basement but the top level of our house will be about 45%. So it will still dehumidify your whole house without being hooked up to the central unit, either run the central fan or leave it on long enough and it will pull the air from all over the house. Running our homes central fan by itself is dirt cheap. As for this dehumidifier it does not break the bank. We have it on a lot, and it does not add much to the monthly bill.Is there any negatives? If there was only one it is with dehumidifies in general. This unit will run down to pretty cold temperatures but won't dehumidify very well like any other dehumidifier in the cold. Ordered this, got great price, free shipping. Arrived on a palette and is heavy, but easy to slide down the stairs into the basement. slipped off the boxing (great packing job) and had the thing installed in five minutes! I already had a sump in the basement, so just ran the tygon tubing into the sump. plugged it in and turned it on. Within an hour the basement felt better, smelled better. Wish i had done this years ago. Runs reasonably quiet and moves a lot of air. Definitely want it in the basement part of your basement, not the rec room part. if you need to dry the rec room, there are accessories that allow you to set up duct work. if you don't have a sump, there is a pump accessory you can buy to pump the water out. Discount SPT SU-3751 Ultrasonic Pig-Shaped Humidifier

List Price: $41.00
Sale Price: $29.00

We were very happy with the first SPT SU-3750 Ultrasonic Penguin-Shaped Humidifier humidifier we bought, so we a pig, and eventually, five more penguins. I liked the penguin better than the pig from the start, and I still do, even though my review for the penguins is now less favorable than it was at first. I haven't bothered to look for a replacement.
DO THEY WORK? Yes, the our only pig and four of the six penguins do. I can run the penguins faster than the pig, because mist starts leaking out around the pig's face and getting the shelf wet if I turn it up too much (or don't get the face seated right.) We usually run each penguin for about 18 hours, and the pig for 20-22, with each roughly 1 gallon tank-full. Mist starts coming out immediately when you turn it on.
MODEL: I don't like the pig as well as the penguin because the mist comes out the pig's snout, which is not at the very top. It's easy to not get the face seated correctly on the body, and then mist comes out all over, getting your shelf wet. Even it the face is seated properly, if you run it full steam, some mist comes out around the edges of the face. (Not to mention that mist comming out the snout is a little gross. Also, the red light by the knob makes the pink bottom part glow in a dark room, which I find slightly creepy.)
NOISE: Most of them are pretty quiet, altough they do generate some white noise, and you occasionally hear bubbles as the base "gulps" water from the tank.
CLEANING: I rarely do. I love that these stay pretty clean with basically no maintenance. We had a cool mist humidifier with a filter that quickly grew all kinds of orange stuff, and warm mist vaporizers that create black shale-like stuff in the tanks, so these penguins are better. I use regular tap water, and we do get a little white dust/mineral deposit film from these (which is much worse with one unit than with the other three), and after a couple months I've noticed stuff starting to grow, mainly in the parts where the mist comes up & out. It would be nice if the base didn't still have a bunch of water in it when you take off the tank, so you could easily let everything dry out every now and then or so to keep stuff from growing.
FILLING: You take off the face, lift off the tank (the clear part), flip it over and unscrew a cap on the bottom of the tank, and fill it in a sink or bathtub. It's nice that it fits in a regular bathroom sink. It would be nicer if you could bring a jug of water to the pig and fill it in place, without turning it upside down, or at least if it wouldn't drip when you carry the tank.
SUITABLE AROUND KIDS: Yes. The mist & units are cool, so little kids can't get burned. And they're cute. My 2 1/2 year old loves "raking the smoke", slicing a spatula through the mist. He does turn the ones on the counter on and off.
MAKE SURE: 1) It's high enough above the floor that the floor won't get wet. (A 42" counter is fine, lower may be ok too.) 2) the tank is seated properly: a couple bubbles rising will let you know that the tank is back on the base correctly. Otherwise, it will use up the water in the base, then stop making mist even though the tank is still full.
Refilling is easy, and I've had no issues placing the tank back on the base (it was somewhat tricky the first day, but never again). Although it's not the recommendation, I've been using tap water, with no negative effects so far. Though, I do plan on switching to filtered soon, as I love my pig and want him to have a good life.

This is a really great humidifier if you're looking for something inexpensive, with no filters to replace. It's very simple, easy to use and really puts out a lot of steam (adjustable, of course). Since it goes through the water quickly, it doesn't build up pink gunk like other more expensive humidifiers weve tried. The only thing that's a little tricky is getting the water tank back on the base without splashing a few drops. But overall, it's a pig with steam coming out it's snout! What's not to love?Best Deals for SPT SU-3751 Ultrasonic Pig-Shaped Humidifier
I've had this humidifier for 2 years now, and it's still going strong. After two years, the LED light indicator has definitely gone out, but the main function still works well. I've never had a problem with leaks. Other than the LED light, this humidifier works just as well as the day I bought it. Great value for a simple product.Honest reviews on SPT SU-3751 Ultrasonic Pig-Shaped Humidifier
I ordered this pig last month, and I don't know how I ever lived without it! I run it mostly while I'm awake, as I have a fear of running appliances unattended, but lately I've caught a cold and have been running it at night as well. Not only does it work wonderfully (great control for mist output!), but many of my friends have expressed how jealous they are, as they own plain, boring humidifiers. So unless you're really boring, don't feel silly buying the pig!Refilling is easy, and I've had no issues placing the tank back on the base (it was somewhat tricky the first day, but never again). My husband and I both love this humidifier. It works great and it is sooo cute. I especially like how it can go for 2 full days on low to med with one full tank of water. With one full tank of water it will go for a couple of hours on high. I would recommend this one to all my family and friends.Saturday, March 22, 2014
Cheap 2-1/4 Enviracaire Humidifier Replacement Mineral Absorption pads (6
We received them promptly, we put one in, it fit well and seemed to work okay. But when we went to clean the humidifier a couple months later we couldn't find it. We discovered it had pretty well disintegrated and what was left was crispy. So don't know why (we don't have hard water) or how long it lasted.I was looking for replacement pads for the three Enviracaire EWM-220 Warm Mist Humidifiers that I have. I always prefer shopping on Amazon so I can save both time and hassle and this was the exact replacement pad that I needed. There were six in the package, measuring 2 1/4" across, exactly as specified on Amazon. The shipping was quick and since these pads stand up great, I don't hesitate to recommend them.
