About 12 years ago, my wife got tired of dry skin and electrical shock due to cold weather in Kansas City. She had a whole-house GeneralAire 1099 humidifier installed on the furnace. It came with a manual H-86 humidistat which seemed to work fine....until we woke up one morning to ice covering the upstairs bedroom windows. True enough, the house felt better that first year or so but the effect seemed to wear off in the following years. Consequently, I'd turn the humidistat to a very low humidity level at the start of winter or just never turned it on. This year, I replaced the H-86 with the automatic, external-temperature sensing SEH-7100-000 from Skuttle which costs about $50. Some aspects of the Skuttle literature are misleading....and almost made me not buy this device. For example, the maximum allowed length of external temperature sensor wiring is 30 feet according to Skuttle. I spliced 18 gage solid copper wire onto the supplied 22 gage stranded sensor wire for a total run of 60 feet with excellent accuracy. The installation manual was equally vague in regard to how the Test Function worked in automatic mode. It turns out that you must connect the sensor for the Test Function relay to close the Output port. The on-board LED turns from RED to GREEN when the sensor is connected....and this significant hint was never mentioned!!! I also elected to power the SEH-7100 using a dedicated 24VAC transformer (10 VA) and power the solenoid valve using the switched 24VAC transformer(40VA) from the furnace. Instead of running sensor wiring parallel to existing 120 VAC house wiring, I ran it perpendicular to house wiring whenever possible.

Overall, this is a great product...despite the literature and installation hint shortcomings. The house seems warmer at lower temperature settings...and we also seem to sleep better at night. This is the best $50 I've ever spent for heating equipment....

Well, turns out that Amazon customers are supposed to seek resolution through Amazon rather than the seller's website. Being that this is my first time having to do so, I did not know that. Nonetheless, the Sain Store in charge of their Amazon Marketplace saw this review and reached out to me saying, "the website customer service you've contacted before was not in charge of Amazon's customers. They are in different department so that your problem was not solved in time. We sincerely apologize on their behalf." I stand corrected.

As to the issue of the instruction guide/manual, the Sain Store representative has been in contact with me repeatedly regarding this matter, offered sincere apologies and addressed the deficiency in the manual on several occasions, ending with, "I have forwarded your concerns about the manual to our supplier and they promise to improve it in the near future."

I must say here that despite my dissatisfaction with the manual which I feel rendered the product useless, I was GREATLY impressed with the diffuser itself. So I have decided that when I am notified of a manual update, I WILL ORDER THIS DIFFUSER AGAIN and give it another try. I'm actually quite anxious for that day and look forward to updating my review and rating!!

Having gone through so many poor quality diffusers, I moved away from purchasing less expensive models, and only considered those with a minimum 1-year warranty. However, the ability to control the lights, mist stream, and humidification modes, plus the negative ion function, small power adapter, quietness, product design, and availability through Amazon Prime made this diffuser attractive to me. So I took a chance on it.

The package arrived in two days. Everything was JUST as described. I was surprised to find the unit packaged with such care. The unit is VERY sturdy and well made. The quality materials used for the base, cover and nozzle exceeds that of all the diffusers I've EVER used, even more expensive ones. And it's beautiful to look at.

Some aspects of the setup were clearly consistent with other diffusers adding water to fill line, including a few drops of essential oil, placing the clear top and directional nozzle, and plugging in the device. Yet after 15 minutes, we realized the fragrance was unnoticeable unless standing directly in front of the nozzle. So, with much anticipation, I pulled out the instructions for clarification on that aspect as well as information on how to use the other features (humidify, anion, etc).

And sadly ... that. is. where. my. joy. ended.

The instruction 'booklet' is a little (read that: teeny tiny) 4-page thing with a nice diagram of the diffuser followed by incomprehensible English wording (see my photo on the main page). This fabulous device has several wonderful functions, yet the language in the booklet is so awful that two of us couldn't figure out how to make sense of them, and I'm fairly good at deciphering. It seems as if a mechanical/online translator was used. And too much was lost in the translation! Here's a sample directly quoted from the instructional guide:

"Main functions and characteristics

1. Infrared Sensor: It works with the technology-infrared sensor, the furthest distance is 3 meters, the biggest angle is 90.

It will work, when the human body is in 3 meters, with one sound-"Di", and it will stop work after working 5 minutes, with sound-"Di, Di", If the human body is still in the area, it will continue to work, repeat the above."

"Operation Guide

1. Open the cover, adding about 100 to 240 ML of water, if aroma oil, please join the appropriate amount of it, covered and connected to the power.

2. After power on, turn on the LED lights to the beating mode. Or you can refer to the LED function, adjusted to the lights you want. To open the anion, press left, then left light is yellow, which represents the negative ions are Operation, then click the left button to turn off!

...7. Negative ion, LED night light, humidifier timer mode is independent control, so you can choose according to your needs related functions. And function choice is as follows, Press anion button, the indicator lights yellow, anion open. If not open anion, the light does not shine."

On the same day that I received the diffuser, I went to SainSonic.com and found their contact form which states "Customer Service Working Time: Your inquiries and concerns will be responded within 24 hours". So I sent a message saying that I received the diffuser, and love it, but cannot understand the English instructions, and asked for their help with setup in order not to return the device. That was Monday afternoon. Today is Wednesday and as yet I've received no reply. This morning I went back to the website where I noticed a live chat feature. It was offline but said I could leave a message, so I did. I'm giving them until this afternoon to respond before I pack up this lovely diffuser and send it back for a refund.

I really want to love this diffuser but the unclear instructions and the lack of timely response as promised force me to give it a 3-star rating. If anything changes, I'll update this post.

As a child growing up, I always had the impeller type humidifiers in which a spinning tube would draw water inside of it and then toss it out in a visible mist. While these could be quite effective, they had the drawback of being loud and soaking everything around them.

When my daughter was born, we got an ultrasonic humidifier. The mist was a little finer, but again, it had the tendency to soak everything around it, and created scale on itself and its surroundings with tap water.

So this time I decided to go with the evaporative type of humidifier. With these, a fan draws moisture out of a wick filter that is then disbursed about the room. These types of humidifiers have the advantage of being self-regulating because evaporation is quicker in a dry room, slower in a moist room. They also trap the minerals and bacteria that may be in the water in the filter instead of spraying them in the room. The disadvantages are that they require costly filters, and you have to treat the water to keep bacteria, mold, and scale from building up on the filter and components. Both of these can be achieved with the addition of a few drops of humidifier treatments that can be found at your local Wal-Mart.

With all this in mind, I did lots of comparison shopping and finally turned to the Graco 1.5 Gallon Cool Mist Humidifier. This compact unit appears to be much more durable than other brands at a similar price point, and since its components are dishwasher safe, it is much easier to give it a thorough cleaning. Although the unit could be considered loud, especially on its high setting, the low setting is quite pleasant to me, and provides a nice white noise to counteract background sounds. Most importantly, it does a good job of raising the humidity into comfortable levels during the winter. And with the water appropriately treated, there is NO mold on my filter and minimal mineral deposits.

Note: this is advertised as a "baby" humidifier, but its shape and design fit as well as any other humidifier in any room of your house. We bought two. One for our bedroom, the other for my daughter.

This is the one. I have searched awhile for a humidifier that would meet all my needs. I needed one that efficiently put moisture in the air without leaving pools of water. I needed one that did not leave a white residue on everything near to it. I need one that was not much trouble to maintain. Graco met my requirements.

I needed a humidifier because members of my family had very dry nasal passages. Sometimes it was so dry that we would have nosebleeds from the dry membranes. Dry nasal passages would result in breathing difficulty.

To add to our problems, we live in a dry climate. This is true for much of the rural areas in America especially west of the Mississippi. We have central air conditioning to keep cool in the summer and a furnace for warmth in the winter. Both of those appliances take moisture out of the air.

This Graco uses the "evaporative" moisture system. Essentially it blows air through a moist "wick", raising the humidity in the air.

I purchased some additives to prevent bacteria from breedingKaz Humidifier Bacteriostatic Treatment (8 oz.)

I also purchased some additives to prevent mold: Kaz KWT-8 Humidifier and Vaporizer Water Treatment

With these additives (just a few drops each time I fill the reservoir), and a weekly cleaning in my dishwasher, and I get exactly what my family needs.

I found this product to work great. This only downside being that it's loud, though this does make great white noise for our son. If you're looking for a unit that emits a cloud of mist you can see, you're looking in the wrong place. This is a cold air humidifier, NOT a hot steam humidifier.

The main reason I posted this review is because of the main negative review I saw regarding mold....The instructions state clearly to rinse the unit daily and wash it something like every week or so. If you let the unit run for a few weeks without washing it and it got mold, that's user error, not a problem with the product. I've run the unit for weeks straight rinsing the filter every few days and never noticed a spot of mold.

All in all, great product that performs exactly how a cool mist humidifier should.

We have gone through about 4 humidifiers for our 13 month old. This one is easy to clean and easy to change the filter. The other humidifiers we had would get very moldy and nasty very fast. This humidifier does not get that way. The only reason I would give this 4 stars instead of 5 is the fact the the filter does need replaced about every 2 months. It cost about $7 each.

I have a medium 120ct humidor and it barely keeps my cigars at 65%. Every day I have to keep checking to make sure the level doesn't drop and leave me with dry cigars. I can't complain too much because my cigars feel fine to the touch more so than they did with a sponge insert. However, I am concerned that during the winter time as it get's pretty dry where I live at times that the humidifier will have a hard time keeping up.

This thing fits perfectly in my humidor, so it's not an issue of whether or not it is sized appropriately. It may have been because I threw in a mixture of 1% propylene glycol (hardly any) just to play it safe (it says to only use water but I doubt the amount of PG I put it would hurt), or it just really doesn't do it's job.

I'd recommend a smaller crystal humidifier if you're going to use this one, just as a supplement, or maybe a smaller sponge humidifier to get you at that 69-70% you may desire.

I'll probably exchange mine for a different one to see if it was the propylene glycol that limited the function or not.

I am currently running 3 humidors the largest of which holds 100 cigars. They are at least 5 years old and weren't that expensive to begin with. They all have a tight seal however. I just started back on smoking and storing cigars. As much of a hobby as anything else. I used to have an electronic humidifier which was incredible,but it died. It would cost about $110 to replace. I've tried all the options crystal jars, hydropacks ,etc. and for whatever reason this one works the best for me. I seasoned all my humidors before using them and just added distilled water to the unit. Keeps my humidor at 72 % (humidistat is calibrated) and so far I only have to recharge this unit about once every two weeks, and it is opened daily. I'm ordering a second one to see if the success follows in the larger humidor

Best Aprilaire Humidifier Maintenance Kit for 600 series Deals

I really just ordered this for the bracket and tray, but getting all the extra parts was nice. I'm hanging on to them for future replacement. This came with all the pieces to those attachment from the solenoid to the humidifier (plus a new hose, which is not included in the product pictures), the gasket for the base of the humidifer for the drain tube, a new pad, the black bracket and tray.

The pad is a branded Aprilaire replacement pad. I've been using off-brand for years, this is actually the first time I've even had a branded pad since it was new.

The bracket was 100% identical to the bracket I replaced. I didn't really need to do so, but the old one was funky with deposits on it so I figured I didn't need it anymore.

The main draw here, for me at least, is the tray. The tray that came installed with my unit had nothing in its base to guide the water to distribute evenly. It was just smooth plastic. But the tray that came in this package has a pad across the bottom with grooves that I assume are meant to help with that even distribution. With my old tray, the water always seemed to pool on the left side (I think the unit isn't 100% level) and occasionally spill over the top. So far, this new tray seems to work much better.

I could not possibly tell you if these parts are all Aprilaire OEM parts, nothing came in a branded box but the humidifier pad. But every piece seems to be of identical quality and construction. The only difference is the tray. If this tray is an OEM Aprilaire product, then I would love to know what was used in my original install. Regardless, the tray is great!

Cheap Air Innovations Clean Mist Digital Humidifier

The item I purchased was listed as a "new" item, however this was clearly not the case and had been used/returned by someone else. Since I recently purchased this exact machine from another vendor, and this was a second unit I purchased I am well aware that this was not new as the plastic was all removed, the styrafoam was missing and the parts were all rattling in the box. Further the unit had already been partially assembled and had water spots inside the water resevoir so it was obvious that it had been used. The unit works fine, however when I purchase a product that claims to be new rather than used I expect to receive a new unit. Because of that I am only giving this two stars for false advertising by the vendor.

Overall, this is a great humidifier.

SIZE: The tower shape of the unit makes it perfect for environments where there is more wall space to consume than floor space. It's fairly large: as a point of reference, it rises a little higher than the arms of my living room sofas and it's rectangular shape is about the size of a magazine, plus about 1.5" on each side for the two tanks.

CONTROLS: The digital controls makes it pretty easy to operate. It's a simple, two-button interface with an easy-to-read display. The automatic humidistat can be set from 25-65% (at 10% intervals). The current and desired humidity level are shown side-by-side on the display using indicator bars. When set a desired humidity level, the automatic humidistat will run the unit until the current humidity reading is 10% higher than your preference, then turn it off until the current reading drops to 10% lower than your preference. This is a pretty nice feature it saves power and conserves water so you don't have to refill the reservoirs as frequently. You can also choose to run the unit continuously by not setting a preferred humidity level.

FAN NOISE: There are four fan speeds. The first three speeds are all very quiet and wouldn't be disruptive (or even noticeable) in most settings. The fourth and highest setting is more noticeable, sounding something like a microwave oven but slightly softer and quieter. It might be enough to make you turn up the TV a little while watching the news, but really no worse than that.

DISPLAY: The display also has a green power indicator and a red indicator to let you know when both reservoirs are empty (the unit will stop when this is the case until at least one reservoir is refilled). I did find it kind of odd that the product uses LED bars to display the humidity levels and two-digit numeric readout for the fan speed (even though the highest speed setting is only 4). It almost seems to me that these should be reversed, but that doesn't really reduce the effectiveness of the unit and the interface is still pretty easy to read and use as designed.

SETUP & USE: The unit is fairly easy to setup and maintain. The two wick units and the plastic grill covers that enclose them can be a little cumbersome when snapping them in and out of place. This is not a particularly big problem, since the wick units only need to be replaced at the beginning of each season to avoid mineral buildup.

The two reservoirs, on the other hand, are very easy to remove and replace while the unit is operating. Each is the full height of the unit and about 2 inches thick with a simple click-latch fixing them snugly to the unit's sides. Despite their large and odd shape, they're surprisingly easy to fill even at a small bathroom sink. They each can hold a little more than their rated 1.5 gallons when topped off and the fill-caps hold this amount without leaking. The instructions say that the water level in these tanks is "easily visible" from the sides. The water level can be seen from the sides, but I wouldn't describe it as "easily"; the dark tint makes it pretty difficult to see from any distance. I often have to gently rock the unit a little to find the surface of the water move before I can judge.

When this unit is running continuously at full speed, it can run through both reservoirs twice in a single day (that two times each, or 6 gallons total). Unless your environment is *extremely* dry, I think that's about the max. With more practical and conservative settings, they only need to be filled every 2-4 days, which is a much more relaxed refill schedule to keep.

The unit does work well even for larger, dryer spaces. You'll be able to notice an immediate difference in the air near the humidifier as soon as you start it, and the effect radius grows pretty quickly especially on the highest speed setting.

SUMMARY: All in all, this is a nice multi-room humidifier that looks good, fits easily, works well and is easy to operate with a nice feature set for it's price range.

The first Humidifier I received, did not work properly. I called the "800" listed on the insert if you encountered a problem. Actually a live person answered. I explained the problem, she knew exactly what was wrong, said it was defective, send it back and we'll ship a new one.

I received a new humidifier within a week. Put it together and it works perfectly. You can set the percentage of humidity you would like and the humidifier shuts on and off to keep the humdity at the selected level. I like the fans 4 speeds. Setting number 1& 2 are very quiet, although 3 and 4 are not bad. The humidifier covers 1300 sq feet which is perfect for my entire downstairs. There are two water tanks, I fill them every other day, but the humidifier shuts off and a red light appears when it is out of water.

Having used an ultrasonic humidifier for the past couple of years (before it gave up completely), we wanted to try a different style humidifier. This one seemed to fit the bill.

First off, the build quality is terrible. The quality of the plastic is sub-par. It's brittle, terribly molded and roughly finished. One side of the unit didn't even have the plastic punched out for the latches that hold the filter cover in place. The latches that hold the water tanks in place are imprecise and difficult to operate, leading to difficultly latching and unlatching the tanks. I could see this as an obvious point of failure with repeated use.

Forgiving this, the unit works well to quickly humidify a decent sized room. The fan is quiet and effective at lower settings (1, 2). It gets louder at 3-4 but isn't too loud. The humidity settings are reasonably accurate, tested against a calibrated hygrometer. Two full tanks will keep our large bedroom at ~50% humidity during cold, dry furnace-heated days for around 36 hours.

The tanks might have kept us humidified longer if the unit didn't randomly overflow and leak water all over the floor. I would guess that whatever mechanism is in place to prevent the gravity-fed reservoir from overflowing just isn't built to high enough tolerances to prevent this problem. We tried placing the unit on a baking sheet to contain any small leaks, but even that overflowed.

We will be looking for a different unit once the return process is complete.

I've tried several humidifiers and this one is the easy to use and is easy to fill.

The design makes it very easy to find a place that is out of the way. The high(4) fan speed is noisy, but the 3 speeds below that are quiet. I set the humidity to one below the max with fan speed at 3 and it goes through one tank every 4-5 hours. I also use a Protec cartridge placed in the base of the reservoir and have had no problems with mildew so far. This one is a keeper.

I purchased (2) of these units from the local Menard's store. I really liked the narrow footprint and quiet operation mode. Unfortunately, they are of poor design and build.

The water bottles side load vertically, and if you don't seat the bottle correctly on the small feed socket, you're going to get a 10" inch puddle. This is managed by learning how to 'quick' set the bottle into the unit. With a little practice one can get the hang of it. Still, I'd recommend you put down a water pan under the unit. I use a boot tray for winter boots.

After about 30 hours, one of the units had a fan failure. The second unit has had a problem with the control panel the switches stopped working. I was able to get it to run on full speed. I returned the first unit to the store within the grace period for a refund, but got stuck with the second unit.

Really, you're taking a big risk buying this model.
