Best RLF1103 Aluminum Metal Mesh Filter with Light Lens Deals
After moving into our home a few months ago, I noticed how filthy, greasy, and just plain GROSS the mesh filter was above our stove. I looked in to replacing it and found the RLF1125 filter, and without an owner's manual with my appliance to order the exact replacement, I crossed my fingers and placed my order (after measuring the dirty one and comparing it to the measurements described for the new filter). It fits perfectly, but for a reason I can't determine, it won't click into place like the old filter. However, with some careful adjusting, the filter has stayed in position and looks exceptionally better than the original one. The light that shines onto my stove top is now brighter and clearer too... a bonus!
Discount Burl Wood Humidor 6 Piece Cigar Gift Set with Ashtray and Cutter
I got my fiance a cigar of the month club membership for a Xmas gift. I thought it might be something relaxing for him. But he didn't have anything to keep the cigars in so I bought this too. He loooves it. I also bought a digital hygrometer. The analog one that comes with this one may be good but I thought digital may be more accurate. Also got him a leather 2 finger case and a triple flame lighter. Bought humidifier liquid and zippo fluid too. He's new to this so I had to be as inclusive as I could. This little set is great, just isn't all inclusive in itself.

Discount LARGE Cigar Humidor Solution PG Propylene Glycol 50/50 Pre-mixed 16
Ive been smoking cigars for 16 years and for the last 3 have been using propylene glycol for my large humidor. I decided to use a different vendor, for what I thought was the same product, and was extremely disappointed. This product does not work effectively, and sadly I bought a bunch of it. I will probably pour it down the sink and go back to my old vendor.I went for the 16oz because it is priced cheaper than 2x the 8oz. I do not care whatsoever but people might want to know that it comes identical 8oz bottles, not one larger bottle.

We bought a Lasko humidifier and ran it all last winter. Did a wonderful job keeping humidity levels high. We have very hard calcium rich water which produces a lot of scale, so the filters were pretty bad after just one season. I priced these around and Amazon blew away the competition, as usual.Best Deals for BestAir L8-C Lasko Cascade Humidifier Filter
I purchased this to replace a dirty filter in my Lasko 1128 humidifier. It is a direct replacement of the filter that came with the device and fit perfectly. It humidifies just as well as the OEM filter. This also has antibacterial properties built in and so far so good. Amazon has it for the best price of any place I've seen (Prime for the win!) I've seen these as expensive as $24.99 at a local Lowes so definitely get it on Amazon with your prime membership.Honest reviews on BestAir L8-C Lasko Cascade Humidifier Filter

Happy to find filters for my old air filter. Works fine, but seems expensive since the frame is not included. I noticed that the composition is just the reverse of the original filters, in that the original charcoal filter was as thick as the white pad is in this replacement filter.AGW-835 Robitussin Humidifier Wick Filter Reviews

Reviews of HONEYWELL/ENVIRACAIRE HAC-504 Replacement Filter Pad
Is there anywhere to buy the old filters without the blue wrapping.
I have used Honeywell Humidifiers for many years and never had the smell / mold problem you do with these filters, they are downright unhealthy.
I tried to rate these zero stars they are that bad but the system would not let me.
Please go back to the old filters
This "enviracaire" blue wrapping was a new thing for me. HONEYWELL/ENVIRACAIRE HAC-504 Replacement Filter Pad Never seen it before, but figured what the heck, maybe it's new technology & will improve the filter's capability.
WRONG!!
My experience has been just the opposite. 1) It doesn't last as long, working only 2-4 weeks before it's efficacy diminishes, whereas the 'older' filters with the plastic/wire mesh would easily last 3-4 months, sometimes longer depending on use. 2) Using the old filters, I would often take them out after some heavy use, clean them, and descale them before continuing to use them. Only after months of use & hard build-up would they lose their efffectiveness & need to be changed. With these "enviracaire" filters the build up isn't heavy at all, it maybe something else (see #5 below), they just lose their effectiveness very quickly.

3) I've been using humidifiers for nearly 9 years. I have a wine cellar & walk-in humidor, and for those of you who partake in those hobbies, you know how important it is to maintain proper storage conditions. So you might say that, yes, I do have experience in the use of humidifiers and environmental control. 4) I bought my last batch of (these) replacement filters from KAZ. When I began using the filters & encountering problems I contacted kaz to complain. Well, the customer service person who contacted me proceeded to tell me how it must be MY HUMIDIFIER that's not working properly as the filters work fine in hers! RIGHT!!!!! Does she use hers as extensively as I use mine?! I've been using the current humidifier(s) for three years with no prior problems to this!!!

5) Now here's the worse part, IMO. WHAT'S WITH THE FILMY/MOLDY STUFF THAT BUILDS UP?! When I began using these "enviracaire" filters, I began seeing a filmy, moldy build up in my humidifier's water system. Even after I thoroughly clean the filter housing & install a new filter, at about the 2-4 week mark (when the filter's efficacy starts to diminidsh), the unit gets this filmy/moldy build-up in the filter housing compartment and in the water (but it doesn't get into the tank). Whether I use a few drops of a bacteriostatic or descaling in the water tank or not doesn't make a difference. Never seen that before, never seen it with the older filter types!! This filmy stuff may be the reason for the decreased function of the filetr, at least that's what I suspect.
So! Should you buy this filer?
You decide. Personally, I think that the manufacturer needs to know about these problems and take care of them.
As for me, I'm trying desperately to find the older style filters that had a wire-like/plastic outer mesh. Honeywell HAC504 Replacement Humidifier Filter They seemed to work just fine!!

This replacement filter suddenly began to emit a really foul odor. I soaked it for ten minutes as per the instructions but when I put it back in, the odor came back and my eyes started to burn. I realized I had to throw the thing out, which means I have no humidifier while the air is now very humid. Meanwhile I had to open the windows, with the temperature about 10 degrees outside, to get rid of the pungent odor and the sensation in my eyes still not gone, several hours later. I received this humidifier 2 weeks ago after searching for a decent humidifier to replace the one i owned that was famous for robbing me in replacements filter, etc. fees. This thing fits the bill. The design is great, it's super quiet, and gets the job done. In choosing this product i read all the reviews. The reviews that made me hesitant to purchase this were the complaints that said: a)that the furniture on and around the humidifier got wet all the time, b)that the machine did not cut off if empty, as advertised, c)that the machine is hard to clean, and d) that it makes a lot of noise.
With hesitation, I purchased the product in good faith.
I was immediately pleased by the design. I read the owner's manual even though i thought it all was a "no brainer". The manual actually explained a)how to adjust the mist as to not wet the furniture around it, and b)that the machine will turn off when empty, but the light on the device will remain lite...obviously the part those that said the machine did not turn off failed to read, and c)how the machine is easy to clean with a vinegar or chlorine solution.
Cleaning is easy. I recommend using the bleach solution as bleach will kill anything..not to mention it also gets rid of the discoloration.
Lastly, the sound the comes from the machine is very subtle, but when u hear it, it is exactly like the soothing sounds of a filter running on a fish tank. It actually helped me sleep... having this white, very subtle noise.
I like this thing. My skin and nose are happy.
I hope this clarifies some of the ambiguity i found in the other reviews....
First of all: ***this humidifier has a 2.3 gallon per day maximum output, with a .9 gallon tank.*** Amazon's initial title for this (and many other humidifiers) mentions daily output capacity rather than tank size... this may be confusing, although the correct specs are prominently listed on the Amazon page fifth bullet point in the "product features" section. As for Crane (the manufacturer), their package clearly states a 2.3 gallon daily output, and .9 gallon tank size... The reviewers complaining about the "misleading name" should try emailing Amazon suggesting a title change on their website... instead of writing a 1 or 2 star review of the product. That would be more helpful and more fair.
As for the product itself:
A few buyers obviously received defective machines; this has to be expected on some level with any manufacturer.
But having read over the negative reviews, I realized that most of the complaints were due to improper use of the machine.
It is essential to read the instruction manual and use the machine as intended by design. Doing so will avoid the pitfalls described by most of these 1-2 star review writers. For reference, I have addressed their most common complaints below:
1) White dust buildup in the room: use filtered or distilled water. This is important if you have hard tap water. (85% of American homes do.) I run my tap water through a Brita filter; the exchange ion resin lowers the concentration of calcium carbonates, accordingly softening tap water. It also helps keep the humidifier cleaner by removing organic impurities, and I have had no white dust buildup. ***If your water is particularly high in mineral content, you should use distilled water, or else opt for a vaporizer-type (humidifying) machine, which creates water vapor free of white dust.***
2) Limited effectiveness: you are trying to humidify too large a room. In my 500 square foot living room level the machine helps a little; in my 150 square foot bedroom the machine is more than adequate.
3) Height of machine: the manual directs you to put the humidifier *at least* a few feet off the ground; there's no reason you can't place it even higher up if you wish. Doing so will disperse the mist more effectively.
4) Machine runs out of water: try turning it down to about 2/3 power instead of full power. The machine is practically noiseless at this setting and the water tank if actually filled to the rim will last at least 8-10 hours.
5) Machine makes bubbling noise on high: see #4 above.
6) Wet area forms immediately around humidifier: you have the machine turned up too high for the conditions in your room. This is explained in the instruction manual: you need to make sure the mist isn't falling down onto the surfaces around the machine; otherwise moisture will accumulate on those surfaces. Turn the power dial down until the vapor stream is fully evaporating in the air.
7) Machine leaks: Take care that the water tank fits snugly into place, with no gaps. Also, make sure you have the clear rubber ring that fits inside the tank cap. During my initial setup, this little (1 1/2" diameter) ring came loose and rolled away, and I almost didn't notice. The ring ensures a tight seal on your water tank cap; without it, I'm pretty sure the machine would leak.
8) Machine gets moldy: you are not following the correct cleaning routine, as described in the manual. You need to empty and rinse out the tank daily, and empty the bottom part of the unit too. Once a week you should use a white vinegar/warm water mixture in the tank and bottom of unit (see manual).
I hope this was helpful. If my humidifier breaks down I will certainly update this review.
1. Starting with the fact that the handle on the tank actually says: "Do NOT use handle when tank is full" yes, I kid you not, this is what it says ON the handle itself why put in a handle that you cant use? As a result you have to carry the tank with both hands.
2. It has a light that cannot be turned off, so good luck sleeping w this thing in your bedroom.
3. It has to be refilled CONSTANTLY I did it morning and night.
4. The tank will NOT stand up due to the awkward shape when off the unit, so to fill it, you have to stand there holding it under the faucet.
5. The way its designed, the tank drips every time you take it out to refill a real pain.
6. But here is by far the worst aspect Cleaning it is a NIGHTMARE The base is full of little nooks and crannies that you have to get to w a Q-tip its full of odd angles, grooves, etc. so good luck trying to get the gunk that accumulates off every couple of days.
7. It has NO antibacterial prevention WHATSOEVER, no filter, no uv light, no silver ion exchange, nothing. If theres something in the water or if something starts breeding in all the crevices youll just breath it right in.
8. The TANK ITSELF is impossible to clean due to the small opening but widening interior and the central tube where the water vapor comes out...good luck cleaning that, you have to work a cloth or paper towel or whatever by pushing and pulling it through up and down the tube.
I actually bought it here at Amazon and went by the very reviews you probably read and, seeing it has mostly positive ones, I decided to buy it. Am I the only one that sees this humidifier as the worst possible design? How on EARTH is it getting so many good reviews? But dont take MY word for it, go to a store before ordering it here so you can see it with your own eyes first hand dont judge it by the "cool look"; actually get it out of the box, pull up the water reservoir and see whos telling the honest truth here.

These filters hold up well...well enough that I just replace it once a year. I toss the old one when I put it away in the spring and start with a fresh one in the fall. I'm not sure why, but they are much cheaper ($4.50 + a few dollars s/h depending on quantity) through the Lasko's online store at than Amazon's current price of $20.22.

I live in a 1 bedroom apartment in Hollywood CA. I have an in wall ac unit like most people do out here and no A/C in my bedroom. So I decided to try this out.... Well I couldn't be happier. Even with my window closed this fan is strong enough to keep me cool. I usually don't even put water in it but if you want it to be cold get 2 gallons of water put them in the fridge for a day then throw them in this thing. Will make it even colder. I get very hot very very easily and still have no problem with it. Love it!
Unfortunately, the cold air doesn't quite reach the bathroom, around a corner through an alcove.
So for many years I have had a Slant/Fin Personal Zone Air Cooler perched on the window sill in there (it's a pre-war building with windows in the bathrooms), pointed down at me when I'm, uh, reading...
The S/F finally conked -the motor gave out, and water leaked through the water level indicator window -so I was looking for a compact air cooler to fit in the bathroom. S/F no longer makes air coolers, apparently.
Enter this unusual tower, which looks rather like one might expect Dr. Who's nemesis, a Dalek, to look like if the cyborg slimmed down and became a fashion model... Like a Dalek, this tower rolls around on casters, but it lacks a plunger or exterminator ray!
Goodness, but this Dalek blows a gust of cool air! If you used this just as a tower fan, it seems to blow more air at the highest of three fan speed settings than any tower fan I've ever encountered -strong enough to make a plastic bottle of dental solution wobble on the bathtub rim three or four feet away!
But things get even cooler when you push the Cool button, activating a water pump that moistens a sponge-like wick through which air blows inside the tower. You add water to the reservoir that slides back from the base of the tower; the tower also comes with two ice packs you can chill in your freezer and slide into compartments in the water reservoir, yielding extra cool air for up to four hours, according to the instructions.
Other functions include a timer for automatic shut-off, side-to-side oscillation, a sleep mode that throttles down as the night air cools off while you sleep, and a "natural" mode, which randomly changes fan speed to simulate real breezes.
I am impressed by the manufacturer's attention to detail here. When you push a button, for example, the control lights get brighter, then dim after a few minutes. The tower also comes with a handy remote, duplicating all functions on the top switch panel. And the tower includes a washable air filter to keep the wick from getting gunked up by dust in the air.
One thing I'm not sure about is whether I will need to add some bleach to the water to prevent the fetid smells most coolers and humidifiers give off over time. The instructions don't address this issue. I can't imagine that the wick is treated with a germ-retardant that will continue to work after weeks and months.
In the meantime, however, this tower of power is sure keeping my bathroom cool and comfortable! The tower would probably work in any setting where you are within a fiveor six-foot radius. I should mention as well that the fan is quiet, even at the highest setting.
I will report back if I encounter any problems. Until then, I am impressed by the amount of cooling this tower provides, running on less energy than an incandescent light bulb consumes...
PROS:
* Tower form uses minimal floor space.
* Quiet in operation.
* Powerful fan.
* Swing mode disperses cool air.
* Several operating modes.
* Easy to maintain.
* Freezer packs for extra cooling.
* Remote control duplicates all functions.
* Minimum energy consumption.
* Casters enable easy re-positioning.
CONS:
* So far, haven't found any.
I would not recommend this to anyone.

Love it!

I live in a studio apartment where a 10,000-BTU a/c handles most of the cooling.Unfortunately, the cold air doesn't quite reach the bathroom, around a corner through an alcove.
* Quiet in operation.
* Powerful fan.
* Swing mode disperses cool air.
* Several operating modes.
* Easy to maintain.
* Freezer packs for extra cooling.
* Remote control duplicates all functions.
* Minimum energy consumption.
* Casters enable easy re-positioning.
CONS:
* So far, haven't found any.

The huge tree that used to shade my house was taken down this Spring. I bought this evaporative cooler to help with the increased heat. Last week we had 3 days of 100 degrees in a row. At 4pm on the third day the house was 76 degrees, which I think is success. The water holding tank is a little difficult to pull out to fill, which is why I didn't give it 5 stars. Warning though, only good in low humidity climates. I could feel a rise is humidity in the room, which in Colorado is almost welcomed. This unit is good for small areas. I like the sleek non-bulky look. It is quiet enough.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Luma Comfort EC45S Tower Evaporative Cooler with 125 Square Foot
This didn't even come close to doing what it says. If anything it made the room hotter!I would not recommend this to anyone.

I hate weeding through the reviews for evaporative coolers because it seems like the majority of bad reviews are from people who have no clue what they are and what they are supposed to do, a few are from people who can't follow basic instructions, and there are only a handful of legitimate negative reviews that are usually due to defective issues.
I live in Denver, CO. It's dry here and it's the perfect climate for evaporative coolers. I've had whole-house swamp coolers in previous homes I've lived and know many friends with them. In my home, I have no option for a portable or window A/C air conditioner as I spend most of my time in our finished basement and there's not a good option for exhaust. Last summer we got quotes for central A/C but it's a lot more money than I want to spend and I also don't want the electricity bill that goes along with it. We have a whole house fan (not to be confused with an attic fan) that we run in early morning before it reaches 70 degrees and that we run again at night, usually after 9pm, or whenever it gets cool enough outside. Sometimes with an afternoon rain shower we turn it on sooner.
I bought the evaporative cooler to supplement the whole house fan on those reallllly hot days and/or for the middle of the day when we we're not running it due to it being hotter outside than it is inside. The house fan cools the ground floor much better than our basement due to the lack of air flow from our basement windows because of the window well covers we have. Also, this summer I'm pregnant with a due date of August 15th and that doesn't help my comfort situation. Basically, an evaporative cooler is exactly what I wanted and what fit our situation.
Think of it as a fan on steroids. Cold air DOES come out of it. Today it is 88 degrees outside and humidity is 16%... a typical Colorado summer day. I have the cooler about 3 feet away from me and 8 feet away from my husband. I have it on high and I'm actually getting cold. I have it on the "swing" setting otherwise I would probably turn it down. It doesn't guzzle through water too quickly and filling it once a day is enough since I'm not running it 24/7. I use a gallon pitcher to fill it up faster since it holds 10 liters (2.5 gallons). I have an automatic ice maker in my fridge so I don't have any issues running out of ice. I can't think of any features it's missing. It's not too loud even on high it's like a normal fan. There's no smell at all but I do actually change the water frequently and follow the cleaning instructions. Trust me on the smell thing, I can smell anything from very far away ever since I've been pregnant. You can wash the air filter on the back but DO NOT USE WATER to clean the wick. It is meant to be placed in direct sunlight to clean. I think that is why some other people had issues with smell or mold. Follow the directions, please. It has a remote, timers, sleep modes, swing function (just the fan blades inside swing, not the entire unit), warning beeps and visual indicators when it runs low on water (nice feature to avoid burning out the water pump), and an extra place to put ice on top in addition to putting ice in the water tank. You can adjust the blades on the front to direct the air flow whichever way you need to vertically. It also has an ionizer and you can run it as just a fan if you'd like, so no need for a second unit just to get some air circulating.
All in all... this thing does exactly what it says it will do. It's exactly what I wanted. It came assembled, which was a big bonus. It's only 17 lbs and has built in handles on the sides so I can actually carry it upstairs by myself if it's empty, even being super pregnant. It's on wheels to make it easier to push around when I don't have to take it to another floor. It was less than half what other similar units cost for the same tank size and air output.
I've only has this thing for a week. I will be sure to update my review once I've had it for awhile.
UPDATE 6/24 I've found that when I run this thing on high for 8-10 hours per day, we do need to fill it every day or every other day at the very least (depending on if I fill it to the max level... usually I just add 1 gallon when I fill it). However, when I'm running it on medium or low and not using it as much (more like 5-6 hours per day), it can last about a week without needing a refill. I typically don't bother putting ice in anymore unless it's a day with over 95 degree temperatures and I want extra cold air. The only thing I wish it had was an easy way to drain it in case I want to move it upstairs when it's not empty. However, I don't think any model I looked at had this feature (or at least it wasn't mentioned). It has NEVER made the room feel muggy even with no open windows and honestly I don't feel any difference in the humidity in the room. Almost every day it's been less than 20% humidity outside, and I've never seen it get over 30% outside. I'm still happy with this purchase and stand by my 5 stars. I'm glad I got this instead of spending much more on a similar unit.
UPDATE 6/25/2012 We didn't use this thing at all once it got cool out last fall. We drained it (easy to do while not pregnant) and put it in our basement storage closet. When we brought it back out a couple weeks ago, I vacuumed the screen on the back, filled it with water and drained it again to rinse it out. No musty smell or anything and it works just as well as last year. The room we normally are using this in stays pretty cool compared to the rest of the house, so now we're purchasing a wall-unit swamp cooler that is 5500 CFMs, hoping it will keep the entire house cool. The only thing I don't like about this cooler is that it's too short to feel it when laying in bed. You can tilt the blades up and down to direct airflow vertically, but it's not enough for a king size bed that's on a frame and box spring. For those of you wondering the electricity cost is negligible. I don't see any difference in our electricity consumption when we are using it every day compared to when we aren't. However, my husband and I work work full time so we don't use it as much as someone that doesn't work or works from home. I'm still happy with this purchase and thing it's a great portable swamp cooler for the price!
Also, here's a chart that shows evaporative cooler effectiveness based off outside temperature and humidity. I will also post it to the pictures.
So, if you live in a region with hot DRY weather (most of California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico), these can supplement your AC, put some moisture in the air and take a nice chunk out of your monthly Air Conditioning bill.
If you live on the East coast, the southern states, the Midwest or any place HUMID, DON'T BUY THIS. It wont do a thing and will probably just make the muggy, oppressive heat WORSE. You've been warned... I lived in Miami for 5 years and understand that 90 degrees in Florida is WORSE than 110 degrees in Las Vegas. This is because of the HUMIDITY, not the HEAT. You don't see "swamp coolers" in Florida because they just add humidity to the air, and that would just make matters worse.
For those who may still be a little puzzled by these and seem to think they're some kind of portable air conditioner... they're not. This is a smaller, updated version of the traditional "swamp cooler" that has been in use on the U.S. west coast & southwest for decades. These work great... IN DRY CLIMATES ONLY!
As a kid growing up in central California, the "swamp cooler" was our ONLY way of keeping cool during the hot, dry summers. Back then, everyone had the BIG, dish washer sized swamp coolers on their roofs or hanging out of their windows. Many people still use them to this day. So how exactly does this mini "swamp cooler" work?
Put a fan in a box. Have some little screens (cooler pads) built into the sides of the box. Pump water over the screens. When the fan blows through the wet pads, it creates a nice, cool breeze. Now, Instead of raking out big money to constantly keep the central AC blasting away, this will use the same amount of energy that a regular house fan uses... a mere 60 watts! That's about 1/5 of what an AC of the same size would use! If you have one of these running in the room were you spend most of your time... and turn the thermostat UP in the rooms that aren't being used, you can save yourself some serious money.
There are quite a few features on this version that I think are great. Remote control, timer, "swing" (shifts the air in the same manor that an oscillating fan does), as well as an emergency "BEEP!" that sounds when the water level is low. The sf-609 also has an ION air purifier feature (I honestly don't notice it one way or another). After checking out the manufacture's website, I believe the only difference between the SF-608 & SF-609 is that the 608 doesn't have the ION gizmo.
The added ice tray on top really is kind of nice too and helps to feed melted ice water over the pads. This will bring the temp down another few degrees, and every little bit helps. Having an automatic ice maker in your fridge will help keep the top tray fed. If you don't have one though, you can away make ice the old fashioned way with empty drink containers. Adding ice really isn't essential though, but it does help a little and can get you closer to AC-like coolness. Another trick I use is to put 2-1 gallon water jugs in the fridge and use them to keep my water nice and frosty.
About the only thing I don't like about this unit so far is that it's a little "plasticy" & seems kind of cheaply made. For $100, they could have made it a little more sturdy. But then, that's how it goes these days... It's pretty much (or in this case COMPLETELY) impossible to find products that are built to last. They just don't make 'em like they used to.
At any rate though, I'm happy with this purchase. I would recommend this to anyone in a dry climate who spends a lot of time in a small to medium sized bedroom.
Stay cool ;)

I live in California in the Bay Area. Not much humidity and the weather is typically pretty mild but it does get pretty hot in the summer (90+ degrees). I received the unit on a particularly hot day recently and I ran out and grabbed a bag of ice because i wanted to test this things cooling capability. I set it up next to my computer desk and turned on the cool air function. I was sitting about 5 feet from it and in 5 minutes my arm was freezing cold. I was perfectly comfortable the whole day but if i moved from the fan at all the heat was unbearable. This thing does not cool a room but it will cool the area directly in front of it. Once it cooled down a bit I emptied the water (which was made very easy due to the lightness of the unit) into my bathroom sink and used it that night as a normal fan. Its pretty quiet and the fan is powerful. Ive heard these swamp coolers can generate a musty smell so I make sure to empty it of water when I'm done using the cool air function. I only fill it with water when its extremely hot because the fan works fine for me most days. It's a very nice unit and it's exactly what I was looking for. Better than a fan and more efficient that an air conditioner.Best Deals for Sunpentown SF-609 Evaporative Air Cooler with Ionizer
My wife and I currently live in one of the hottest, driest places in the U.S. -Las Vegas, NV. Our apartment is mostly shaded and facing away from the direct sun, except for... the HOT room. Our office. "The hot room" faces the south-west side and gets beaten by the direct sun. This little unit is PERFECT for that room. It does a great job of turning the hot room (which is also the room we are in the most) into just another room in the apartment. Now I don't rely on this unit alone to single-handedly take on all 110 degree of Las Vegas heat, but I don't expect it to. It simply does what is intended. It brings the temperature down 10-15 degrees in the room that is generally 10-15 warmer than the rest of the apartment.So, if you live in a region with hot DRY weather (most of California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico), these can supplement your AC, put some moisture in the air and take a nice chunk out of your monthly Air Conditioning bill.

Honest reviews on Sunpentown SF-609 Evaporative Air Cooler with Ionizer
This unit is design for about a 12 X 12 foot room and can help a hot day be livable. Being able to add ice into the water trough and an ice pack into the top can lower the temperature 5-10 degrees (F). The only minor draw back is it increases humidity, my doctor would not call it a negative, which on an extremely hot day can make you feel sticky. This unit is really good in desert/low humidity geographic areas.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Sunpentown SF-609 Evaporative Air Cooler with Ionizer
This little baby does a fine job of cooling down a room in a dry climate. The water tank does need to bee filled quite often (every 1-2 days) and it "beeps" rather loudly five times when it is running low, which I find pretty annoying. I don't think you get much benefit form adding ice, since most of the heat loss occurs during the evaporation process (from liquid to vapor) rather than from warming ice cold water. I usually add 2-3 teaspoons of bleach per gallon of water. This does cause some chlorine odor (like at a community swimming pool), but I prefer that over having any mold, mildew or bacteria growing in the tank. The rear filter is easy to remove, but putting it back in takes some work. I'm still not convinced that the "photo-catalytic" filter piece does anything (it just looks like a regular piece of nylon mesh to me). The remote is pretty nifty (I just wish they included the two AAA batteries it requires). I also wish it would remember its last setting (Its default start setting is High Fan only, and I prefer Low-Med cool ionized air, so I have to press about five buttons every time I turn it on to get the setting I like). But all of these complaints are relatively minor. I am still pleased with my purchase and recommend this product.Best Crystal 50 Humidifier Deals

Works ok I find I am filling it every three weeks & not the couple months it advertise although I have tried other ones & they do not work well.
In my moderate sized humidor (described as 25-40 cigar capacity) this humidifier balanced out at 62% humidity after 48 hours, using distilled water and a digital thermometer/hygrometer. Going on 10 days now and I can clearly see the crystals starting to dry out and separate again. I estimate I will need to fill it again at the 2 week mark as noted in the instructions.
Overall much better than the stock sponge humidifier, well worth the cost.

I had the sponge type and it worked until it started leaking. I was at 72% most of the time according to my Caliber 3 digital hygrometer. I bought this to replace it. Doesn't keep it even above 60%. So I guess these are hit and miss. I even sponged it down one more time after this didn't work, still doesn't work properly. Also this product is not a Madelaine product it is made by IQ which is the same brand as the one that started leaking.Tuesday, February 24, 2015

The product has been running smoothly for 2 months now. Arrival was on time, the packaging was very protective, set up is very easy and noise levels are moderate. Hooking a hose to the back for coninuous draining is very easy as the hole is high enough to allow gravity to work well. I'm using the unit for a 900 square foot basement and the air remains dry.
But with such units, real quality cannot be discerned for four to five years. That is when low quality unit issues emerge, such as coolant leakage or other compressor failures. So while I rate this unit very high, I can't say that with certainty over the long run
The unit is made in Poland. The country is encouraging high quality manufacturing at lower than German costs, but better than Chinese made products. I'm tired of Chinese stuff failing so I am hoping this was a good gamble. Check back in another two years
The D-165HG is a bit pricey and not terribly efficient but if it lasts a long time it'll be worth the expense. It's old technology using a Tecumseh piston compressor made in Brazil and a sealed Morill fan motor made in Tennessee. I know both of these major parts to be of high quality. The remaining materials and workmanship appear to be good.
Packaging for shipping wasn't so great. It was covered by a cardboard box and strapped to a tiny skid. When it arrived the bucket full light was pushed out of the front panel. I pushed it back in. When powered up it worked perfectly with one exception, a rattle when the hot gas defrost cycle kicked on. I found there are two rows of expansion coils and the rear most row was pushed in, so it tapped against the front row when the solenoid opened. I gently pulled them apart and no more knocking.
It's a very quiet unit and it pulled the cool basement humidity down as quickly as the two 65 pints/24 hours rated LG models, although it's rated at 30 pints/24 hours. Under what conditions do they rate these things? Frankly, I find the LG units ratings hard to believe.
The warranty is one year, customer pays labor and transportation. There is a five year warranty on the sealed refrigeration system, customer pays labor and transportation. So the warranty isn't very good but I expect this unit to last a very long time given past experience with similar designs if being made in Poland means quality workmanshipwe shall see.

After some reflection I believe the reason the bucket full indicator was pushed out and the evaporator coils had shifted is due to the tiny skid raising the center of gravity of the package, making it prone to toppling and increasing any resulting damage. I also noticed a series of dings in the condenser coil fins that line up with the bottom ends of the innermost section of the evaporator coil. I believe that during shipment the package tipped over onto the face side of the dehumidifier.
So far after that issue it has been working nicely. This was almost a 1 star review. While I was poking around the insides I could see the nice workmanship and good quality materials. No Plastic parts internally. Hopefully it will last a long time, my last dehumidifier broke in a year. This is why I figured I should spend more to get a well made unit, because $200 every year gets more expensive if I live longer than 3 years. Which I plan to do. Will revise in the future if anything changes.

I ordered the Oasis D-165HG after two Chinese manufactured dehumidifiers died, each after only two years of operation. Both were made by LG (one Kenmore and one GE) and suffered refrigerant/oil loss.The D-165HG is a bit pricey and not terribly efficient but if it lasts a long time it'll be worth the expense. I ordered one of these dehumidifiers and it did not work. Because of my long search for a good dehumidifier I ended up learning about them. So I decided to troubleshoot it a little. I found out that the coils were not cold behind the filter on the top back of the unit. I opened the front cover (three Phillips screws underneath) and found that when I turned the unit on the compressor did not turn on. Fan and Compressor make very different noises, so If you can only hear air blowing, the compressor is not on. I saw in the bottom back left corner that one of the wires was off of its receptacle. I unplugged the the power and plugged in the loose wire. Then plugged the power cord into the wall and fired it up and the compressor coils instantly chilled.So far after that issue it has been working nicely. This was almost a 1 star review. Honest reviews on Oasis D-165-HG GST Commercial Grade Dehumidifier
Got tired of throwing out dehumidifiers every 3 years, so I decided to buy an old fashioned one (i.e., one that would last for 10 years or so). Sure is bigger and heavier than the cheap ones. Uses more electricity and is a bit louder but that does not bother me. Working great so far. Arrived on time in good shape. I could not give it 5 stars because I will not be sure it was a good purchase for a few years to come.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Oasis D-165-HG GST Commercial Grade Dehumidifier
Have this in my cellar going on four months now. Nice simple design. I use the hose attachment for continuous drain. It has kept the cellar nice and dry (100yr old limestone foundation). I am banking on it lasting for years.
