The product has been running smoothly for 2 months now. Arrival was on time, the packaging was very protective, set up is very easy and noise levels are moderate. Hooking a hose to the back for coninuous draining is very easy as the hole is high enough to allow gravity to work well. I'm using the unit for a 900 square foot basement and the air remains dry.

But with such units, real quality cannot be discerned for four to five years. That is when low quality unit issues emerge, such as coolant leakage or other compressor failures. So while I rate this unit very high, I can't say that with certainty over the long run

The unit is made in Poland. The country is encouraging high quality manufacturing at lower than German costs, but better than Chinese made products. I'm tired of Chinese stuff failing so I am hoping this was a good gamble. Check back in another two years

I ordered the Oasis D-165HG after two Chinese manufactured dehumidifiers died, each after only two years of operation. Both were made by LG (one Kenmore and one GE) and suffered refrigerant/oil loss.

The D-165HG is a bit pricey and not terribly efficient but if it lasts a long time it'll be worth the expense. It's old technology using a Tecumseh piston compressor made in Brazil and a sealed Morill fan motor made in Tennessee. I know both of these major parts to be of high quality. The remaining materials and workmanship appear to be good.

Packaging for shipping wasn't so great. It was covered by a cardboard box and strapped to a tiny skid. When it arrived the bucket full light was pushed out of the front panel. I pushed it back in. When powered up it worked perfectly with one exception, a rattle when the hot gas defrost cycle kicked on. I found there are two rows of expansion coils and the rear most row was pushed in, so it tapped against the front row when the solenoid opened. I gently pulled them apart and no more knocking.

It's a very quiet unit and it pulled the cool basement humidity down as quickly as the two 65 pints/24 hours rated LG models, although it's rated at 30 pints/24 hours. Under what conditions do they rate these things? Frankly, I find the LG units ratings hard to believe.

The warranty is one year, customer pays labor and transportation. There is a five year warranty on the sealed refrigeration system, customer pays labor and transportation. So the warranty isn't very good but I expect this unit to last a very long time given past experience with similar designs if being made in Poland means quality workmanshipwe shall see.

After some reflection I believe the reason the bucket full indicator was pushed out and the evaporator coils had shifted is due to the tiny skid raising the center of gravity of the package, making it prone to toppling and increasing any resulting damage. I also noticed a series of dings in the condenser coil fins that line up with the bottom ends of the innermost section of the evaporator coil. I believe that during shipment the package tipped over onto the face side of the dehumidifier.

I ordered one of these dehumidifiers and it did not work. Because of my long search for a good dehumidifier I ended up learning about them. So I decided to troubleshoot it a little. I found out that the coils were not cold behind the filter on the top back of the unit. I opened the front cover (three Phillips screws underneath) and found that when I turned the unit on the compressor did not turn on. Fan and Compressor make very different noises, so If you can only hear air blowing, the compressor is not on. I saw in the bottom back left corner that one of the wires was off of its receptacle. I unplugged the the power and plugged in the loose wire. Then plugged the power cord into the wall and fired it up and the compressor coils instantly chilled.

So far after that issue it has been working nicely. This was almost a 1 star review. While I was poking around the insides I could see the nice workmanship and good quality materials. No Plastic parts internally. Hopefully it will last a long time, my last dehumidifier broke in a year. This is why I figured I should spend more to get a well made unit, because $200 every year gets more expensive if I live longer than 3 years. Which I plan to do. Will revise in the future if anything changes.

Honest reviews on Oasis D-165-HG GST Commercial Grade Dehumidifier

Got tired of throwing out dehumidifiers every 3 years, so I decided to buy an old fashioned one (i.e., one that would last for 10 years or so). Sure is bigger and heavier than the cheap ones. Uses more electricity and is a bit louder but that does not bother me. Working great so far. Arrived on time in good shape. I could not give it 5 stars because I will not be sure it was a good purchase for a few years to come.

Have this in my cellar going on four months now. Nice simple design. I use the hose attachment for continuous drain. It has kept the cellar nice and dry (100yr old limestone foundation). I am banking on it lasting for years.

I putchased this unit as it was specified as having three features I wanted in a basement unattended dehumidifier a) auto restart on power failure b) continous gravity drain and c) automatic defrost. When I received the unit and hooked up the continous drain hose the unit continued to fill up its bucket and auto stop when the bucket filled up. I checked several times to make sure I had hooked up the auto drain as per istructions which were very straight forward. Finally convinced I had hooked up the hose correctly I called Danby customer care in Toronto. Got through to them very quickly. The person I spoke with explained that, yes, this model was having " manufacturing problems" and many units were not auto draining, but they were working on a "fix". He offered to take my name and mail me the fix as soon as it was out. When I asked him how long the fix has been worked on and when it would be available , he responded " for several months" and " any week now". Well not willing to wait for the "fix" I asked and got my money back from the reseller I had bought the unit from. So before I would buy this unit ( which appeared quite solid) if the continous drain feature is important to you I would check and make sure the "fix" is in.

Warning. I purchased a Danby dehumidifier after excellent consumer report reviews and research. It worked GREAT for one summer. But by fall I noticed this thing wasn't working as good. I saw less water being drawn out. I thought it was because temperatures were dropping in Chicago, so I packed it up for the winter. Well spring comes and it didn't work at all. I called Danby and they stated to send it to a local shop. I searched for days to find a shop. Most companies stated it just takes too long to get parts from Danby and they stopped doing repairs. After calling Danby again, I found a shop in North Chicago area, I live in the south suburbs. So I packed this heavy piece of machinery, yes it weighs about 80 pounds, in my CUV and fought traffic on the Dan Ryan. Got a call back a few days later stating the warranty wasn't valid and it would cost around $150 to repair. Luckily the owner was legit and stated that these things never last long. He gets many complaints and he recommended I purchase a new dehumidifier instead. Don't buy a Danby in the US. It is too tough to get parts and their warranty is a joke, 6 months. I noticed now they are 1 year, but Whirlpool units have up to 5 years. If you buy this unit get an extended warranty, I didn't and regret it. I would just stay away from Danby dehumidifiers.

I just purchased a Frigidaire unit from Amazon with a 3 year warranty. So far it is working like a champ and it is MUCH LESS noisy. Now I am realizing I made a huge mistake buying a Danby. I thought all dehumidifiers were noisy, my whirlpool I replaced was loud and the Danby was even louder. The Frigidaire unit makes so much less noise. So another reason to stay away from Danby.

I spent a lot of time doing research about dehumidifiers online, and also reading articles about many brands.

I ultimately settled on this Danby 70 pint unit, and that was most certainly the right decision.

I have a 2400 sq ft Cape Cod style home with a full basement.

Although we live higher up on a hillside, there are some minor hydraulic water problems in the soil immediately surrounding the concrete foundation.

When there is a considerable amount of rain, we occasionally get small damp spots, or in the case of a rainstorm, puddles coming up from the floor, as well as a musty odor.

My old, heavy dehumidifier worked well enough, but was somewhat costly to run from an energy standpoint.

This unit was well thought out, extremely well designed, works perfectly, is fairly quiet (my old unit sounded like a B737 at takeoff) and has the best overall reputation.

This unit is light enough to maneuver around, and has a handy see through tank level indicator that makes checking it easy.

It can be set up to collect the water in its tank, or, as I am planning to do, duct it with a short length of hose right into a drain into the laundry drain tub.

Its controls and instructions are most easy to understand and make absolute sense.

Haven't received the new electric bill yet, but this Danby unit is doing a 100% job of removing the moisture and mustiness in the air in the entire basement.

I'd buy it again in a heartbeat, and seriously endorse the unit as one that will do what is needed for 99% of applications.

I had originally thought that a larger unit would use more electricity, but actually, the larger units collect the moisture more quickly and shut themselves off in a lot less time, therefore saving energy.

I have friends how have used competitor's brands for about the same money, and have had far poorer results.

One borrowed my Danby and after trying it, has decided to return his Frigidare unit and buy one like mine.

Buy the Danby....you won't be sorry!!

Honest reviews on Danby 70 Pint Dehumidifier - DDR7009REE - Energy Star Compliant

I've had this dehumidifier for about 2 days now. Was shipped in 4 buisness days, box-in-box(the product box was placed in another box) and filled with what looks like shredded newspaper. The outer box looked a bit roughed up, but the product box looked perfect. Very simple to set up and get working, came with remote and proper size batteries, and constant drain hose(about 4 feet long). Plugged it in and turned it on, not too loud at all. Sounds like any other medium sized house fan on high, a bit quieter on low.

We live in the rainy and wet northwest, in a smaller 2-bedroom apartment that is partially underground. Because the living room, kitchen, and bathroom are underground, the walls and carpet always smell musty(its an old apartment complex that is reaching the end of its lifetime, plans to remodel in 3 years). Borrowed a buddies humidistat one day, and discovered that it was 58% humid outside, and 91% humid in our apartment. Naturally, decided it was time to go shopping.

When we turned the dehumidifier on, temp read 61f and humidistat read 89%. Turned it on high, and set the humidistat for 30%. After 24 hours, humidity was down to 46%, and temp was up to a very comfortable 71f. Only needed to empty the bucket once, very large capacity.

Yesterday morning woke up with a nosebleed from the dry air, so decided to set the humidistat to 50% with fan on low. Also purchased a wall outlet timer(beacuse the fan ONLY turns off automatically when the bucket is full, even if the compressor is off), and have it running 6 hours during the day. Our apartment is now a steady 49%/72f at 3pm, and 65%/65f at 3am. Overall MUCH more comfortable(with no nosebleeds, lol). Be sure that if you intend to use this to dehumidify a living space, that its not set TOO high for the sq/ft. It WILL dry YOU out.

Very very happy with purchase. Lost a star due to the fan only turning off when bucket is full, regardless of compressor state. Its only a minor irritation, would give 4 1/2 stars if i could.

Will update in a week or so when power bill comes to see how much its costs to run(though by my math it should only pull as much power as a medium/high end computer or a midrange AC unit)

UPDATE: Power bill came, and just like i predicted its probobly 2-4 dollars more a month to run constantly. With the timer in place, our bill hasnt changed in any real noticeable way. Its sill running strong, pulling buckets of water out of our air a week. It had to use its automatic defrost once(all it did was turn the compressor off, and turn the fan on high for about 10-15min.), but was over quickly. 3 weeks later, still happy with it. Seems sturdy enough that it will last a long time to come.

After spending 2-3 weeks looking at all of the portable dehumidifier options for our finished basement, I chose this for several reasons.

1.) Automatic restart The power frequently goes out on our street, and I don't want to have to go and reset this each time.

2.) Capacity This unit is tested to remove 70 pints of water a day in ideal conditions. I don't know the exact amount that the unit is removing, but there was a noticeable difference in our basement after the first day of use on the high fan setting. I have since turned the unit to low and it maintains the humidity very well.

3.) Continuous drain I certainly do not want to have to go down to the basement and empty this daily or every couple days. The only downside to this models continuous drain feature is that you have to use the included hose, which is pretty short. I bought a 15 foot hose with this unit, but it will not stay on the dehumidifier. The threads on the nipple from the back of the unit are filed down on the top and bottom, which is fine for their hose, but the additional weight of the rubber hose causes it to fall off of the nipple. This causes the unit to use the internal bucket. I just moved the unit closer to the drain and used the included hose.

4.) Warranty This unit has a two year warranty, where others only have a one year. I have read that most portable dehumidifiers die after a little more than a year, so it's kind of nice to know that I have a little more time after that which is covered under warranty.

This unit does produce a little bit of heat like all dehumidifiers do, but it is not excessive. The unit is also very quiet. I have to be in the same room as it to hear it running. The controls are extremely easy to use. A five year old could get this up and running in twenty minutes flat (including unboxing, placement and setting the unit for the desired humidity).

I gave the unit only four stars because I've only owned it for a couple weeks. These types of units typically die after a year. I hope this one lasts a little longer than that.

All in all, it is a great unit. I would recommend this to anyone looking at portable dehumidifiers.

Received this product promptly, however I was pretty disappointed with it.

The sales presentation on Amazon implied that this product was the same original equipment evaporator pad that came with the unit from the manufacturer. It was NOT. was significantly thinner than the OEM one, and since this product is all about the surface of the pad delivering water to the air passing through this pad, if it's smaller, than less water ends up humidifying the air so the unit will have to run longer than it would have with the intended full size metal pad in it.

In the future I will not buy these online unless the manufacturer (Bryant) sells them online and I know what I will be getting. Watch out for products that are only implied to be OEM equipment. They may not be.

Most of you that use a furnace for forced air heat probably have a Humidifier mounted on the side of your furnace to add moisture back into the air to keep wood floors, furniture and picture frames from drying out and to make your living space more comfortable. If you do, to get the most benefit you need to change your filter. It is very easy to do if you order the right size. Just get the humidifier model number and look on Amazon. The price was good and the service fast.

I have a humidor that can hold up to 100 cigars. I don't smoke regularly enough to check my humidor's humidity level every week as most cigar enthusiasts recommend and I absolutely detest the inconsistency of the traditional humidifiers most humidors come with (you know, that plastic black container with the sponge). In the past, I've struggled a lot to keep my cigars in acceptable conditions, and sadly, I had to throw away a few unsmokable cigars because of my lack of diligence. These Boveda packs have solved all my laziness problems. Whether you smoke avidly or occassionally, these things work like a charm. I've been using this product for over two years now and my cigars are in great condition. Weeks have passed without me looking at my cigars and I have never had any problems. Despite my love for these humidifier packs, the one thing I don't like (and hence the 4 stars) is the fact that there is no convenient place for them. You can't attach to your box the way would with the black plastic humidifiers and so I usually just leave the packets on top of the cigars. (these can touch your cigars without damaging them). Nonetheless, these do exactly what they say they do and so I highly recommend them to anyone.

These things are an awesome addition to your humidor and they definitely get the job done! I couldn't be happier with the performance that these packets have provided me. I have bought the 69% and the 72% for my humidor.

Just a note to prospective buyersMake sure you buy at least 2 packets. 1 for the humidor, and 1 more per 50 cigars you have. Exampleif you have 50 cigarsyou would buy a total of 2 packets. If you had 150 cigars, you would buy a total of 4 packets.

These things are easy, cheap, and they last 2-3 months. I highly recommend them. 5/5.

I use 2 packs of Boveda 72% in my 50 cigars humidor and it's simply amazing. These little things do the work and I don't have to worry about humidity in my cigar case. Just remove the plastic wrap and place it in your cigar case, you'll see how in a few days the hygrometer sets at 72%. NOTE: no matter if the pack is placed on top or above the humidor and even if the pack makes contact with your cigars.

Honest reviews on Boveda Humidifier 72%

No Fuss, No Mess, No Hassle No bull.

These really work, they will put out the correct amount of humidity and if your humidor humidity goes up too high, these will absorb excess (to a point).

Make sure you get the correct quantity to humidify your box as well as how many you need for the number of cigars you have in it.

**tip**

You may experience better overall results with some cigars at a lower humidity (I'm switching to 69%), AND IMPORTANT!! these need room for air flow, you CAN lay them right on top of your stogies or just about anywhere in your humidor, but just don't go burying them under a pile of cigars.

Also, regardless of what you read or hear.....these ARE re-usable, once the packet begins to get a little firm and at the early stages of it just starting to feel dry, get a clean dry sponge, wet it with DISTILLED water, and place the wet sponge and the old Boveda pack into a clean dry tupperware container and seal the lid, let sit for several days or until the Boveda pack feels supple and full of moisture, reuse at will.

your welcome

The Stogie Dude

I use two of these in a coffee can to keep about a half box of cigars properly humidified. I've tried all sorts of sponges and humidors, but it all comes down to having properly balanced and stable humidity, and these puppies do the trick.

They last about 2 months in 40-50% relative humidity, so order appropriately.

I have had this to carry cigars to the beach for the last couple of years. May not look like much but it is a sturdy case offer lost of protection, built in hygrometer seems to work, and I use a drymist tube instead of the small sponge provided as a humidifier. The sponge it comes with for humdification makes the humidor too wet initially and it dries out fast. Just too dificult to regulate the humidity but a drymist tube works fine even if it takes one slot away from cigar storage. The case is easy to adjust for any length cigar. Great travel humidor for the price that keeps your cigars safe and humdified. I'm pleased with it.

These humidifier wicks work OK, but they do not put out the kind of humidity that the original replacements do... I ordered four, which will probably take me through the heating season, but find that I now have to run another humidifier in a remote part of my apartment to really do the job... Note: The item now pictured is not the ones you will get... The ones being shipped now have a blue fabric-like covering... Again, they are good, but not quite as good as the originals, which have a mesh covering... (m.)

The low price was a decisive factor for me. I ordered six of these, thinking that would definitely get me through the winter. They look and work as advertised, although I can't really compare them to the factory filter since it has been several years since ours was used up and I don't recall the water consumption rate from back then. This filter resulted in using the whole tank in about 12 hours when running the fan on high in a very dry room, which seem reasonable.

The problem is the God-awful smell in the first few days. Just opening the box, with dry filters, is bracing. Once you get it wet and turn on the fan, stand by for stank. Really terrible smell for the first 24 hours, then bad for the next 24, then the smell seemed to fade.

There is no way this is worth it in exchange for saving a few bucks per filter. Go with a more expensive version...you get what you pay for in this case.

I used to wait until fall to cruise target and walmart for these filters. At the store you pay almost double per filter. Now I save money and they are shipped to my front door.

These last every bit as long as the name brand ones. The wear depends on how often you use it and whats in your water that you use. We have hard treated Missouri river water in the midwest and usually get 3-4 weeks out of one filter.

The only drawback is that they have a strange "new carpet" type smell to them . after a day or two of the humidifyer running you dont notice it but ....
