Works fine....but next time I'll just buy the media and cut my own. What you do here is pay extra for somebody to precut the stuff for you....NOT smart!

Honest reviews on Pollenex Air Cleaner Multi-Stage Replacement Filter (2 Pack)

Happy to find filters for my old air filter. Works fine, but seems expensive since the frame is not included. I noticed that the composition is just the reverse of the original filters, in that the original charcoal filter was as thick as the white pad is in this replacement filter.

Blueair 403 HepaSilent Air-Purification System

Some of the online specs are misleading. The Blueair 403 unit (at least the one I received) actually has 4 speeds, just like the Blueair 402! Even the manufacturer's own website as of this review lists it as having only 3 speeds. The only difference between the 402 and 403 is that the 403 comes with a small electronic timer that is magnetic (you can put it on your refrigerator or on the Blueair unit itself) which shows you when 6 months are up and it's time to replace the filter. This is handy, but not really needed. So, if you can still find a 402 (now discontinued) for a good price, I'd recommend you grab it!

This is a great unit but it is a bit larger than I expected. If you have a small bedroom or office, it may look a bit imposing. It runs very quiet at the two lowest settings and even at the third setting, I found the sound soothing enough to sleep with. In fact, the first night I had it, I put it on the 3 speed setting and found the sound quiet nice and relaxing.

It works very well and is more efficient and quieter than smaller units. The design is also more proven; I compared it with a smaller unit (the 250E) and the 403 works a lot better for a number of reasons (better filter, it pre-charges the particles so that they stick to the filter, and has a larger, thicker filter). The 403 also has a deeper, more soothing and relaxing sound than the smaller unit. Because of the design, you can put things like books on top of it if you want to since it takes in and outputs air from the sides. You can also place it against a wall, something you cannot really do with the smaller 250E unit as it has the filter on the back and outputs air out the top. Also, larger units like the 500 series output air out the top (and sides) so you would not be able to put something on top of those either. I'm not saying I would use my Blueair 403 as a bookshelf or anything, just that it can be convenient to place a magazine or book or two on the top surface at times.

I will now buy a second 403 unit for my living room because I am so impressed. Having two or more of the same series in different rooms throughout the house seems a benefit as you only have one type of filter to buy for them all. However, if your living room is on the large side, you may need a larger unit (such as the 500 series so check your square footage). Note that the 500 series is *much* louder though.

All in all, this is a great unit as it performs very well is *very* quiet and well made. I feel I sleep much better with this unit on and also have much less allergy symptoms including less red and itchy eyes. Even if you don't suffer from allergies, you can still benefit from having nice fresh air all the time. My guess is that you will sleep better and feel more rested when you wake up. As for myself, the Blueair has practically been a lifesaver-I feel a lot more healthy and my allergy symptoms are virtually gone!

I bought this purifier based on it's build quality and purification capabilities, and also because of the 10 year warranty stated on the amazon page. The unit is powerful and cleans the air in my bedroom very well within two days, it has completely relieved my sinus problems during this heavy pollen season. It also seems solidly built and it is very silent on the lowest setting (I cannot hear it over the birds chirping outside my closed window).

I would rate this purifier five stars, if the warranty was not a complete scam: it states on the amazon website that there is a 10-year warranty. However, the warranty information that comes with the purifier states that there is only a one-year limited warranty, and that that warranty is only valid if you have proof that you replaced the filter after 6 months. So, if you were not to replace your filter, the warranty would be valid for only 6 months.

You CAN get a 5 year warranty, and even a lifetime warranty, if you become a member of Blueair's filter subscription program, in which they send you a new filter every 6 months for $59 including shipping. You can do that by sending back their warranty card or by signing up online. I think that this program may make sense for some people, but I want to run this purifier for only about 6 months each year, as I have no sinus problems in the fall/winter, so I will use one filter every year and not one every six months.

You have to dig deep into their warranty policy (also on their web page) to find out that you *MAY* qualify for an extended warranty if you purchase your filters elsewhere and keep the receipts. That wording sounds like the company will decide, though, whether you actually *DO* qualify or not if you need a repair under warranty and have purchased your filters independently.

I find it ridiculous to make the warranty de facto dependent on whether or not you join their subscription program and it is deceiving to state a 10-year warranty on the amazon site when no such warranty exists and when any warranty that extends beyond six months is dependent on the purchase of somewhat costly replacement filters directly from Blueair. While I like this machine, I don't like to be deceived or suckered into a "free" 5-year warranty that actually costs you quite a bit extra if you do not run this machine full time through the year.

If this company plays dirty little tricks like that upon purchase, I don't even want to know how great their customer service is when you really have a problem down the line. No blue air for me this baby is going back.

Update September 2012: I ended up keeping this unit, because the only other one that I liked was not available online. I will not change the filters every six months, and, thus, my warranty will expire at the six month date. I posted some pictures of the warranty terms and of the "FREE" 5-year warranty card that came with the unit, just so folks can make an informed decision.

Update August 2013: The purifier still works fine and I have now replaced the filter for the first time after a year. The old filter still seemed to have plenty of life in it, though. One thing I like is that the machine produces a good amount of white noise when running on full speed, which is great for my dogs, who are scared of thunderstorms. They like to hang out in the room that has this filter running, because it drowns out the thunderclap quite well. I have noted that amazon now states that the purifier comes with a 5-year limited warranty, which is closer to the truth than the previously advertised 10-year warranty. I would add a star for more honest advertising, but for cutting the advertised warranty in half, they have now increased the price from the $399 I paid to $549 for the same model without an update. This price hike pushes this HEPA filter close to the price range of HEPA filters that have powerful additional filtering capabilities, like VOC or gas removal featured in some of the low-end IQAir filters.

Best Deals for Blueair 403 HepaSilent Air-Purification System

I should start with the fact that everyone in our household has allergies, even the dog I think, but that had not been confirmed. Currently we have the Blueair units in all the bedrooms and family room. The best thing about Blueair units is they work! We really feel a difference. Before getting Blueair my wife was not able to sleep thru the night. She would get congested and her throat would get dry so she kept waking up to drink water. Whatever was giving her trouble is now gone from the air and she is finally able to get a good nights sleep.

Outside the fact that this unit cleans the air, I do also like that it is steel construction ( I did a lot of research and that is hard to find), its quiet!!!, and its energy efficient. As for warranty, the warranty card says mail in for free 5 year warranty.

Every morning I woke up with my eyes swollen almost shut due to allergies since I got the Blueair 403 HepaSilent air purification system, my eyes are no longer swollen. My sinus problems have greatly improved. I am very please with how quiet it isI can sleep with it on the 2nd level. I would buy this product again.

When my allergist advised I put an air purifier in the bedroom, I wondered how I could find something quiet enough to fall asleep with. He recommended the Honeywells for their air quality, but reviews indicated these were pretty loud.

So, I first purchased the Whirlpool Whispure Air Purifier (AP51030K) based on Consumer Reports and Amazon reviews. From the moment I turned it on, I knew there was no way could I fall asleep with that in the room. Even on the lowest setting, it is quite loud: I could hear it just fine from 30 feet away in another room, through two open doors. In addition, it uses a lot of electricity about 60 watts on the lowest setting. Finally, construction is a bit cheap: plastic and styrofoam.

Further research pointed to the Blueair series as quiet and energy efficient. Of these, the Blueair 403 is ranked the quietest. I ordered it and am very happy. It is extremely quiet on its lowest setting just barely audible from 8 feet away in bed and uses only 20 watts on the lowest setting. It's solidly constructed of metal, and well worth the higher price vs. the Whirlpool.

Regarding the Blueair 503, which I haven't tried: The 503 seems to be a better deal (just a little more expensive, rated for 50% more space, and surprisingly cheaper filter replacements). But the 403 is rated much quieter (27db vs 35db on lowest setting). I am considering getting the 503 for the living areas, which are larger and where noise is less of an issue.

Bottom Line: I love the Blueair 403 in my bedroom. The unit is quite large (11d x 20w x 23h), but well worth the space and price given its silence, energy efficiency and stylish construction.

I've owned the cigar oasis for about 10 years now. If you decide to get in to cigars and buy a humidor, I don't recommend you do it is like getting hooked on crack, the cigar oasis or similar electronic humidifier is the only way to go. Buy a cheap humidor with good spanish cedar, and get an electronic humidifier. Everything I've read says the humidifier should be above your cigars in your humidor. In order to do that in a 100 or so cigar humidor like mine, you need a small tank like this one so your electronic humidifier fits in the top tray. This one fits nicely in my humidor and works very well. My stogs usually burn perfectly and season well with this tank. I replace the tanks once a year to avoid mold. These tanks are basically a big sponge. Some of the tanks I've had in the past have come apart internally.

These are most effectively (and inexpensively) used to create a humidity ceiling. Traditional humidification units can easily create humidity. However, the real problem occurs when the environment inside a humidifier becomes TOO HUMID, resulting in irreparable damage to cigars, including mold. Because these packets regulate humidity by both releasing AND ABSORBING humidity, they can effectively be used indefinitely for the latter purpose (provided that there is a traditional humidification unit *creating* humidity above the indicated threshold of these packets).

Nothing is more depressing than moldy cigars. I just had to trash about $200 worth because my Cigar Oasis Ultra humidor was creating too much humidity.

I have only been using these for about a week, but they are great. They maintain 67% humidity in my humidor with about 25 cigars in it. I only put one package in the humidor instead of 2 to 3 like the directions say, but it works better that my old insert that had to have water added to it on a weekly basis. I would highly recommend this product to anyone who likes to keep cigars that will smoke the way thay are supposed to.

Best Deals for 4-Pack: Boveda Humidifier 69%

My homemade humidor now maintains 69% RH on the dot. I threw in a couple of traditional water pillows which would have sent the humidity up to about 77% thus creating a mold problem and ruining the cigars. One Boveda pack brought it back down to exactly, you guessed it, 69% in less than 8-10 hours ( perhaps sooner because I didn't check before then). I could not be more pleased and at the same time perplexed at the science/witchcraft? behind this great product.

Honest reviews on 4-Pack: Boveda Humidifier 69%

Quick shipping, correct product and amount, and it works great! Boveda packs are a very simple way to keep your humidor stabilized at your preferred humidity. I like the 69% because it keeps my 50ct humidor at exactly 65% and will only fluctuate to 64 and 66 when temp changes. Great product!

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for 4-Pack: Boveda Humidifier 69%

You just can't beat these Boveda packs for obtaining the exact level of humidity you want. Sealed in ziplock baggies they keep humidity exactly at the labeled humidity. How they perform in your humidors depends on how air tight they are.

The most important feature of these is that not only do they release humidity, they also absorb it when required. I prefer to keep my cigars at 65% humidity and most retail humidors are kept at 72-75% humidity. When these over humidified cigars are put in with a Boveda pack, it absorbs the excess moisture in 24-48 hours. I was amazed the first time I saw this happen, as the liquid in the pack turned an amber color (and gained a very nice smell) from what it absorbed from the cigars.

You can use these as a safety mechanism to prevent over humidification when used with traditional humidifiers.

And the best part, when they dry out, you can rejuvenate them!, Just seal them in a container with a dish of water (don't soak the packs themselves in water) This works best if you don't let them completely dry out.

I can't say enough good things about these Boveda packs.

We purchased this unit for a very wet basement in a old house (read: standing water during spring snow melt and heavy rains). After making major drainage improvements in the basement (perimeter drain pipe and sump pump), we wanted to further dry it out so we could store things down there without worrying about mold and mildew. This unit does a very good job at lowering the humidity. After only a short while of use, there is a noticeable difference. The unit is easy to set up and very easy to use.

There is only one MAJOR drawback. The unit does not shut off when the desired humidity level is reached. Ever. The condenser does turn off, but the fan runs indefinitely. There is a timer that the user can set to have it turn off after some specified number of hours, but how useful is that?? One of the features we liked was the EnergyStar rating -however, we just received our highest electric bill in the 10 years we've been i this house after having the unit running for the last month. Coincidence?? The $100 unit we purchased several years ago, although it didn't remove moisture too well, even was able to cycle on and off based on changes in humidity. This is a major disappointment!

We purchased this brand because a previous model was a Consumer Reports "Best Buy". When we tried to purchase that model on line, the web site said it had been discontinued and that this model was equivalent. Well, I guess that teaches me to trust the manufacturer's word. I would be very surprised if this model received good reviews from Consumer Reports given this issue.

Overall, I am very pleased with the efficiency of the unit to remove humidity, to not freeze up. I have had problems with other units freezing up. This unit is extremely quiet which is a blessing. Some other issues explained below, although remedied, are troubling.

I purchased this unit in May of 2009. I first noticed that the fan apparently runs 24/7 whether or not it is calling for the compressor to dehumidify. I emailed Danby and waited a week. No response. I emailed again and was told that yes, the fan runs continuously but uses little power and helps keep the area constant. Then after the continuous drain working fine for a couple of weeks, I found the container filling and having to be emptied. I checked the connection, it was fine. I emailed support and heard nothing for over two weeks. I emailed again, and the email bounced back. I then tried calling 800 support number off and on for two days, and it was busy. I then called the main number and talked to someone who told me to call 800 support. I explained I could not get through and was connected to someone's voice mail. She emailed me and told me there was a problem with this unit, and that a fix would be mailed to me. I waited almost two weeks, no mailed fix received. I then called and left a voice mail again, and got an email that another set would be mailed to me. Today, three weeks later I did receive the fix kit. I can't help but wonder why, if I registered my unit, they did not send out notification of the problem. Outside of this issue, I have been pleased with it's performance.

Best Deals for Danby Premiere DDR6009REE 60 pint dehumidifier - Euro Grey

We bought model DDR3008EE in 6/08 . It worked well at first, but in Fall 2008 ate a lot of power, and its anti-icing function appeared to stop working. We didn't use it over the winter. We turned it on in 7/09 and found its coils would not cool. Other than the fan blowing air, it was totally non-functional. A local shop confirmed that the coolant had leaked out. It took many calls to Danby just to finally get a human being instead of a machine. The man told me Danby couldn't help us as the 1 year warranty had run out. We paid $242 for this piece of junk. We won't ever buy a Danby product again.

Honest reviews on Danby Premiere DDR6009REE 60 pint dehumidifier - Euro Grey

I read the reviews of others, and decided nothing really bad was said. Most complaints are what is written in the owners manual and dealt with how it was designed. After trying 2 other brands that were ^&^*^ right out of the box I am extremely happy with Danby. My temperature gauge/humidy measurement were exactly what the dehumidifer read. It works as promised. My smelly basement had no smell in less then one day. I do use the remote since, as is written, the fan is always on, so I use the remote to turn it off instead of going down the stairs. I even threw out the box meaning this is a keeper.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Danby Premiere DDR6009REE 60 pint dehumidifier - Euro Grey

Danby dehumidifier 2-year warranty is a joke. Warranty requires customer to take unit to "authorized dealer." In my town of 100,000, no one will repair it. The "authorized dealer" 30 miles (one-way) will no longer repair Danbys because he says they will not pay him enough for the labor involved. The next "authorized dealer" they suggested would require a 4-hour round trip drive plus another 4 hours to pick it up or around $70 to have it shipped. Taking to a dealer would cost me around $100 for a repair under warranty, plus my time in driving--for a $200 unit. Shipping would also be time consuming and costly.

In 6 years, I have had 5 70 pt. dehumidifiers for an 800 sf area of my house (not basement)--Maytag, Fedders, EdgeStar, Danby, and now SPT, which I've had 1 month. So far, none has lasted more than a year and some less. Under warranty, all require customer to either take in or ship. It is silly to read reviews of satisfaction from customers who have only had a unit under a year. Yeah, they all work great for a month or a few, but then fail with no way to get repair that is cost effective. So, before buying any dehumidifier, you should find out details for repair because it WILL need repair.

Why is it that other appliances like microwaves, dish washers, clothes washer and dryers, refrigerators--all last for years and are easy to get repaired--but NOT dehumidifiers. WHY???

It seems they are just throwaway items, like toothbrushes.

This is the Grease Filter specified for my Microwave/Rangehood. And it's about a 1/2" too wide. I had to fold one of the sides to get it to fit. It works good enough now, but obviously the longevity of it is now in question, plus it falls out every now and then.
