Whynter RPD-401W Energy Star 40 Pint Portable Dehumidifier
We don't use the A/C much and the weather sure gets damp and oppressive at times. Our son got us these units for Christmas and we just started using them in March. Not the most interesting gift but turns out they are probably one of the better gifts I received.
This Whynter 65 pint dehumidifier is a must have in the muggy weather. We have a 40 pint unit in our bedroom and this 65 pint unit in the living room. Both are set to run continuously via the drain tube which we custom extended so that it drain into our flower bed outside. No sense wasting good water. We have both on probably 12-16 hours a day since I do work from home as well.
It has made a noticeable difference in the temperature you feel on your person. The lack of moisture makes breathing a lot easier as well and we've notice significantly less mildew growth on the walls in the bathroom or near a sink. There is a constant water flow in the tubes showing that these are really taking the damp out of the air. Both have been running very well and at this point we hardly notice them in the background. The are rather quiet when not on high fan speed.
We are very pleased with them and will get another for the basement very soon. They also look much nicer than your average dehumidifier.

I bought it at Costco for the 90 day return policy. I ordered it online on 2.13.13 and received it today, 2.19.13. Email alerts were right on the mark.
I would rate the noise, EXCELLENT. It is very quiet. I can only wonder how that will change over time. I've had a LG for about 4 years now. It still sucks the moisture out of the air, but, it is LOUD. I'm going to set it up in the garage.
I would rate the set up as Excellent. Using the controls was a snap.
The reason I'm only giving it 3 stars, instead of 4, is that the humidity meter shows a much lower level of humidity then my RMR203HGA Oregon Scientific Temperature and Humidity Station shows.by about 6 or 7%. This shuts the machine off too soon when using the auto shut off. I'm not overly concerned about this because I can set the auto shut off to a lower humidity to compensate. But if you don't mind this one little issue, then, this is a machine for you.
Frankly, the big plus is the low noise level, even on Turbo speed. We use it in our living room, small house built in the 50s with no insulation and we live in a damp climate. We don't use a dehumidifier in the summer, but, in the winter the condensation on the windows is remarkable. Using a dehumidifier clears up the condensation quickly.
I will write an update down the road. If the humidity meter isn't too annoying, which it probably would be for the perfectionist, I expect to raise this to 4 stars. I never give 5 stars. There is always room for improvement.
Update 3.6.13 Still the only issue is the humidity reading. I don't know which is off, but, it is only 6 or 7 points. We are very pleased at how quiet it is. We run it in the living room. It does not interrupt TV or conversations. If turned up high then it is a little, but by no means an annoyance. I still rate this purchase high.

The product was delivered about ten days ago and has been set up and running the past nine days. It is relatively quiet, performs the function of automatic discharge, and maintains an average temperature of just below 50 degrees. The basement is warm and dry. Had been quite humid, so I am hopeful the product will continue its good behavior.

The second one seems to be working OK. The first one didn't work at all, and contacting Whynter is a waste of time. Amazon, however, handled it correctly.

Purchased this to solve 2 problems. One, humidity, and the other a high electric bill, and it works great on both counts. Draws the moisture out of the air quite nice, and I didn't notice much change in the bill. So it was a win, win. It's quiet, and portable, and quite stylish for a dehumidifier. Sure served the purpose.
