Buy Protec Antimicrobial Cleaning Cartridge
I love this product. The problem with most humidifiers is the high bacterial growth in the water. You can tell by the musty smell in the air from the dirty and contaminated water in the tray and in the tank. Clean steam has no odor. I am doing this review based on the specific humidifier machine I own, the Honeywell Model HCM 630. I live in NYC in an overheated apartment during the cold months. My husbands and I got a lot of cold, dry coughs, dry skin and nose bleeds from the heated dry air that was why I bought this machine two years ago to alleviate our suffering. There are three hidden maintenance steps that every humidifier owner must perform that the manufacturer of the humidifier usually did not mention in their instruction booklet in order to keep the humidifier hygienic. The first, one must keep the tank and the water scrupulously clean by scrubbing the inside of the tank, the inside of the lid while changing the water daily. The second, once a month, after cleaning the tank, you drop one of these Protec cartridges in the tank and let it do its work as it helps slow down growth and migration of mold, fungus, algae, and bacteria in the water and on the filter. The third and just as necessary as the other two, replace the big round filter monthly or as often as every two weeks especially if you keep the humidifier running 24/7. If you do all three steps regularly, you'll enjoy the clean steam that helps protect your mucus membranes from drying out (much healthier for all of us) during the winter months and one added bonus, not being zapped by static shocks when touching another person or a metallic object when the humidifier is operating.

I purchased the PAC600T (one step below this unit) from Amazon one year ago. When it arrived, I filled the tank with water, inserted it in the unit and my floor was covered with water less than a minute later. Turns out the unit's plastic base housing was cracked during shipment. Amazon replaced the unit, with the same results for the second unit. At that same time, there must have been lots of returns because Amazon stopped selling the unit. I stepped up to this unit with its slightly higher BTUs and hefty price.
The unit arrived fine, no leaks after filling with water, and I used it most of last summer (in a 14' x 20' room with average height ceiling). The unit puts out cool, definitely not cold, air. The only way to really use the unit is to get it started when the temperature isn't too high, then keep it running. I don't think it would be able to cool a warm room. It simply isn't overly powerful. That may have to do with the fact that it operates at 110 volt, rather than 220 like many AC units that are built into apartment walls.
The unit has been sitting behind my couch all winter. When I went to use it this year, the removable plastic water tank was cracked. It was emptied at the end of the season and not exposed to excessive temperatures, so I don't know what that's about.

I bought 2 units last year. At first it worked fine. Then, this season, when I started to use the air conditioners, one of the unit leaked at the base, ruining my wood floor. I thought I could just use it without water, and I found it to be very insufficient to cool off the room. I have used different models of pinguino and I found that the newer models are more problematic. If it isn't leaking, then it is the alarm light that kept coming on, shutting down the unit. I followed the maintenance procedure to clean the unit, but it doesn't seem to help. I am fed up with pinquino. I purchased a Pinguino PAC 700T 3 years ago. Rated at 12,000 BTUs, it cools about as well as a 6000 BTU in-window unit. However, at the beginning of this summer season, I find that it no longer cools or dehumidifies air. I found DeLonghi's central service number (800-322-3848 in case you need it) and asked for my nearest service/repair center. They informed me that they no longer have any repair centers in Massachusetts. They suggested that I take the unit to Hartford, CT, about 2 hours from Boston where I live. Having paid $1300 for this unit just 3 years ago, I expected better service than this. It appears that DeLonghi maybe doesn't care too much about supporting their products after the sale. I bought the 700 Pinquino A/C unit because of its excellent energy efficiency and quiet operation. I liked the looks too, so many others look so ugly that I would not have them in my livingroom. I have had the unit for two years now, and so far no problems at all. It works great, and is very quiet, and cools my 700sqft room well, although it takes a while when above 90F. The water reservoir lasts about a day before needing refilling. My only complaint is a minor one: The plastic finish is of good quality, but it scratches easily when moving the unit around and you bump into something. I was looking forward to being able to add a scent to my humidifier so I bought 3 different scents. The scents smell wonderful in the bottles, but when I added it to the humidifier and turned it on I smelled nothing. I added more thinking that I didn't add enough and still no smell. I have added far more than recommended on the bottle and it just does not leave a scent once added to the humidifier. I was very disappointed. It is quiet running, you can adjust the moisture. Runs a good 24 hours on second cycle before I have to refill.At the end of the season I just dry out throughly and put a little vaseline around the opening before storage.

1. Because the humidity is not distributed upwards, but at an angle instead, it sprays the raised silver top of the tank with moisture which then needs to be cleaned up. Might as well be leaking from the tank, what a pain.2. This unit also has an inaccurate humidity sensor. Because it humidifies the air directly around the unit, a room with 30% humidity is suddenly detected as 60% humidity after the unit runs for a short time, causing the unit to prematurely switch off. You'll have to override this by setting it at "always on", but the sensor still displays the inaccurate reading which is therefore a reminder every time you look at the unit of how it's not functioning as designed.
3. Because the tank is so opaque from dark tint, it's very hard to see the water level and how much is left.
4. The tank doesn't hold as much water as other units on the market, and the handle placement makes it awkward to hold while filling.
I previously owned the Holmes ultrasonic model, which was a great unit except that it was a pain to clean. I figured this Bionaire unit, which was $20 more and looked cool, would be easier to clean. After opening it up, it looked more difficult to clean. Returning this to Target and going with the Holmes.

We have had a number of humidifiers in our home to try and combat the dry air. We live in Wisconsin so the air gets pretty dry in the winter from the furnace running all of the time. After some bad luck with units purchases at the local hardware store, I decided to buy one online.After reading some of the other reviews, I was a little hesitant to purchase this unit (in regards to leaking and humidifier monitor issues). However, after we got this unit and started using it, we absolutely LOVE it! We have not experienced any of the issues that the other reviews mentioned. The humidity monitor works great, and is a very nice feature. Although we have a ceiling fan running all the time so that probably helps circulate the humidity around the room. Our last unit actually did leak right out of the box, but this one is perfectly clean.
The digital screen is a very nice feature. The buttons are intuitive and I was able to figure out all of the controls within a few seconds. Many of the humidifiers available look somewhat "medical", which is not appealing when it's going to be sitting in my living room. This thing is even more stylish than it looks in the picture. It even has button to turn the digital screen off, in case you have it in your bedroom and don't want the extra light.
The spout works great, and the water compartment is easily removed for fillup. It's very quiet, so won't keep you awake at night either.
If there was a negative, it might be that the water output is not that high, but I don't think ultrasonic units have as much output as heating units. Everything else has far exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend it.

Unit is easy to set up, and is putting about 1 gal/day into the air (room humidity has increased although not as much as I would have liked). Ok, this is the first time I have wrote a review for anything. But I wanted to say that I really love ours. I originally got it to put in our dining room, but since we have a bigger, bulkier air purifier in our livingroom, I decided to put the EcoGecko in our room. It has a blue light on it that you can turn off and on (i use it as a nightlight). You can control the speed to it, also. During the day I have it up pretty high but at night while we're sleeping I turn it down about mid-way that way it isn't very loud. You also get a free little thing of the EcoGecko Scented Oil, I got Lavender. I like to clean the bowl out before bed, soap and water and scrub it good. Then fill it up to the highest mark, add a few drops of the lavender oil (and a few drops of some peppermint oil that I had before) and it makes a GREAT relaxing scent. This air purifier if AMAZING!!! I can actually see how much it cleans the air. After just a few hours the water was cloudy. I put it in my daughter's room. She smoked cigs in there with her freind. I originally bought the smaller version, but upgraded to the larger unit because I liked how it worked. The smaller unit had a single on/off button on the top, while this one has a dial with adjustable speed. The smaller one had a blue LED light that never turned off (which I had to remove), while this one has a handy on/off switch.Other than those 2 differences, this unit is basically a larger version of the one I already had, but they both work great. The "wooshing" works great as a white noise to sleep to, it removes dust and pollen from the air like nobody's business. The only downside is that you have to change the water every other day (same with the smaller version), but the water is basically the "filter", so that makes sense.
Sometimes the wet dust forms a "snot" inside the funnel, and you have to rinse it out or use a small brush or something to clean in out, or else the funnel gets clogged. You'll notice when the water doesn't "woosh" anymore. I recommend this product for everyone.

I bought 2 of the 7135 humidifiers. I also bought extra silver sticks. Then, air-o-swiss substituted this POS stick for the original silver stick. Here's what I think. If you read this, it's only my opinion, not based on any independent research, but partly based on some rumors I read on the internet. Form your own judgement.
The original silver stick allowed silver to slowly come off, thereby inhibiting bacteria formation (meaning, you won't breathe in bad stuff). The new one is much smaller, just as expensive, and as far as I can see, I don't know what it does. Read the current description, which I quote as follwos:
This advanced water maintenance system keeps your humidifier operating at its highest level between recommended cleanings
Good for one year, the Hydro Stick ensures your humidifier's functionality while providing fresh humidification performance.
The Hydro Stick begins to function as soon as it comes into contact with water, even if the humidifier is switched off.

Do you have any idea what that is saying? It says absolutely nothing specific about what it does. It reads like pure marketing verbiage, saying nothing.
The hydrostick clearly does not appear to have the surface area of the original silver stick. So what does it do, besides cost money? It seems like it's there to substitute for the original silver stick. Perhaps the original silver stick started costing air-o-swiss too much money, because silver price went up. Perhaps air-o-swiss was no longer permitted to sell this silver stick, for legal reasons. But whatever, I do not see any specific function associated with it, particularly when the description for the new demineralization cartridge talks about inhibiting microbe growth.

This new hydro stick doesn't work as well as the old (silver) stick. Using the old sticks & cleaning weekly worked great, but with this new hydro stick I've had to clean the humidifier every couple of days. The new hydro stick doesn't seem to be doing anything it's a total waste of money for me. I'd give it zero stars if I could. I'm very disappointed with Air-o-swiss on this joke of a replacement. I went to BBB for a replacement stick and to my surprise they were all gone. I was skeptical about the new hydrostick's antimicrobial abilities as it seems to be made out plastic. As suspected every few weeks I actually started cleaning moldy growth from my humidifier. I saw calcification build up with the silver stick but never mold or slime. Needless to say I'm very disappointed with this product and trying to figure out an alternative as I'm not paying another thirty dollars(with tax) for this product. Giving it 4 stars only because it seems that the Vicks folks could think of a little bit better design. I'm assuming this filter works in several other styles of humidifiers but, it does it job. I purchased one of these humidifiers last winter. At first, I loved it so much I ordered 2 more for my kids. We used them for 3 months and then put them away when we shut down the heater for the season. This winter, however, we've had nothing but problems. The first one started leaking water . (I suggest putting the unit in a shallow container if you have nice furniture, as this happens quite often.) The units were still under warranty so I contacted the company. They tried everything possible to persuade me from returning it. Their solutions to fix the unit were as follows: Clean the unit with lemon juice, only use distilled water, and empty the unit when not in use. I already do all of these things, but I have no idea how that will "repair" a leak. The unit leak so much that it stopped working. I spend $10 to return the unit. A week later someone from the company called to say there was nothing wrong with it so they were sending it back without doing any repairs. Needless to say, since they didn't bother fixing or replacing it, the unit still leaks water and doesn't produce mist.
When the first one broke, I started using one of the others I had. But after just one month of use, that one no longer produces mist. And now the third unit just started leaking water. I'm really screwed now because at this point all 3 units are out of warranty.
Initially, I spent over $150 on the three units I bought. I can't believe Sunpentown refused to do anything about the defective one I sent back. You think they would've replaced it just to keep a good customer. Take my advice: SAVE YOUR MONEY!!! THIS UNIT IS NOT WORTH THE MONEY...AND SUNPENTOWN DOES NOT HONOR THEIR WARRANTY!!!

I travel frequently and, while working on a job, my old travel humidifier kicked the bucket. After much internet searching, I found this nifty little device. First off, it's MUCH smaller than you think-slightly larger than a large box of 250-ct matches. Insert a water bottle, plug it in & you're set. Easy to clean & carry with you, the thing I love most about it is that if it runs out of water, it stops on it's own. It puts out a large amount of cold humid air for it's stature, but unfortunately it struggled against the incredibly dry air in the Minneapolis hotel room where I was staying. I initially purchased this portable humidifier to use at the office. It is extremely dry, and I had been getting dried up bloody noses from the dry heat. I was searching for a filterless humidifier, because I did not want to worry about filters get mildewy and gross, especially from not using it over the weekends and holidays. I also wanted something that would be easy to put away in a cupboard when I left work. I came across this Suppentown portable humidifier and thought it sounded perfect.It has worked incredibly well so far. As an added bonus, I was easily able to wipe it out, put it in my bag, and take it with me to visit out of town family for the Christmas holidays. They have electric baseboard heating, which is extremely drying. I used to keep a regular humidifier there, but I was the only one who used it, so it needed a new filter every time I used it. This portable one worked perfectly!! A few family members were very interested in it, and my mom is even going to order one after seeing how great it worked.
The only thing I can think of that would make it better is if you could use a larger bottle. 16.9 ounces doesn't last very long if you have it on high (does not last through the night). I am curious to try a 20 oz or 24 oz bottle possibly one day. I have had issues with a couple bottles used so far. I think it is because of the cheap, flimsy plastic used. I have tried an Aquafina bottle and a store brand water bottle. Both could be a little difficult getting the adapter on properly. I did find a bottle that works perfectly and seems to be much sturdier (it is 17 oz., so close enough to the 16.9 limit). It is Talking Rain Sparkling Ice flavored water. I will keep a couple of those on hand at the office, home, and my parents' house.
I highly recommend this humidifier for office use, traveling, or small rooms. I'm not sure it would be the right thing for constant use at a house because of the water limitation. GREAT PRODUCT!!!

I'm hypercritical about manufactured products but this was quite a surprise. I did not give it 5 stars because there is no way to turn off the bright blue light that shines through the vapor nozzle. If you can live with that you won't be disappointed.

I've always used humidifiers in the winter season. The huge, heavy tank, the cleaning, ugh! Recently, I developed dry eye and was told by my doctor to use a humidifier to help with the nighttime dryness. After searching Amazon and using the very helpful reviews, I ordered this little dynamo.You don't need a lot of water. You don't need to humidify the whole room...just the area near your head. This unit is almost amazingly SMALL. Quiet. Convenient. I bought distilled water from the supermarket, store it in the bathroom and fill a 16 oz water bottle every other day. It was never practical to use distilled water before, in the usual gallon humidifier tank, even though it is recommended. Who wants to buy/cart that much water?
This little beauty does the job. Lots of cool mist. In fact, on the high setting, it can soak the pillow case, so I keep it at about 1/2 setting. Every morning I take off the nozzle and top, pour out the remaining water and let everything air dry during the day. The bright light in the well was a problem, but I took a suggestion from this site and put a small piece of black electrician's tape over it. This doesn't seem to effect it's function at all, but I do wish the manufacturer would address this issue, as it is the main complaint.
I recently traveled with it, and it was great. Of course, it has helped through the winter cold season and the spring sinus season. Highly recommend it. Great product.

I have used this for over a year and this is a wonderful product. It has a humidifier control that lets you vary the room humidity between 35 and 80% ... this number is the machine's goal for the room. It gives you the relative humidity in the room. It can be set for cool or warm mist, it has a sleep timer and cool blue 'mood light'. It puts out alot of mist, almost like a smoke machine in a club. My only complaint is the filters are next to impossible to find. They are Nano Silver SF-400 filters, and they need to be changed every 6 months. I can't find them anywhere other than H-Mart.

I've had this humidifier for over 2 years now, and it is seriously top of the line. It's more expensive, but also far superior than any other store-bought humidifiers for several reasons:Dual directions for the humidifier to point its "spray" with the spouts.
A vast array of humidity to choose from, from 40-80%.
A "warm" humidity function.
Night light.
Low, Med, High amount of humidity adjustments in "spray", so you can have tons of water released, or a more moderate amount. Useful for overnight use!
The only problem--I wish I can afford more than one! :)
