Review of ProTec Extended Life Humidifier Wicking Filter - 2 pk
I ordered ProTec Extended Life Humidifier Wicking Filter 2 pk and it was supposed to be a two pack and I only received one.

Giving it 4 stars only because it seems that the Vicks folks could think of a little bit better design. I'm assuming this filter works in several other styles of humidifiers but, it does it job. We have well water and I strongly suggest the Protec balls that you can stick inside the water to take to extend the quality of the water.Best Deals for ProTec Extended Life Humidifier Wicking Filter - 2 pk
It's just a wicking filter, what can you say about it? It does the job it was designed for it wicks.Honest reviews on ProTec Extended Life Humidifier Wicking Filter - 2 pk
I have a cool mist humidifer in both my bedroom as well as my children's room and we go through quite a few filters running them every night of the year. They work fantastic and this two-pack deal is a great bargain I've come back to time and again. I highly recommend this vendor as their shipping and fulfillment is fantastic as well.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for ProTec Extended Life Humidifier Wicking Filter - 2 pk
one of the problems with Humidifier filters is that a lot of brands claim they can fit any brand. I have discovered this isn't true. So when I found the brand I need at the right price, I jumped on it. even with shipping these are cheaper then most brick and mortar stores.Sunday, October 12, 2014
HAC-504 Aftermarket Honeywell Humidifier Wick Filter Review
The wick works just fine although it plainly had been in its box, folded in half for quite some time. I had to re-shape it, put it in a small box, and leave it overnight in the box to make it sufficiently round to fit my humidifier. I have had no problems with it since then. I was impressed considering the age of my humidifier.

Discount Friedrich D50AP 50 Pint Dehumidifier with built-in drain pump

List Price: $319.00

Have only used this for a day, so this review does not address reliability.
Pros:
This unit excels at its primary function of removing water from the air. Was dropping my basement more than 1 point of humidity per hour (starting from 50% humidity and in conjunction with my old Whirlpool dehumidifier).
Amazingly quiet.
Nice set of controls including humidistat and self defrost. Humidistat setting goes down to 30%. Operation is limited to 41 degrees fahrenheit or warmer.
It has an internal electronic pump for self drain, or you can use passive gravity drain for continuous drain.
The instructions are written in clear english with some helpful tips.
Some cons:
Comes with castor wheels on the bottom and these wheels don't lock, so I have to block the tires to make the unit truly stationary (placing the wheels inside Gatorade bottle caps works well). Also, if you remove the wheels, the unit is not stable (there is a triangular piece of plastic that protrudes from the bottom, so the unit is very wobbly without the wheels).
The threading on the passive gravity drain was a bit off, so my garden hose would not attach as firmly as I would have liked. I used their included hose instead, which worked well.
No continuous run setting, so if the humidistat goes bad, unit won't work.
I gave it five stars because the cons were very minor in my book.
Also, for reference I comparison shopped this versus the Frigidaire FAD504DUD 50-Pint Dehumidifier and Amazon was selling the Friedrich at about the same price (a few $$ more). The Friedrich had two extra things going for it: 1) it has a built in pump to drain the water, 2) several reviewers reported problems with the Frigidaire gravity drain, which is a key feature for me. Seems comparable to the DeLonghi DD50P 50 Pt which was $50 more.

Have run the unit for 10 months and it has been flawless. Air filter is also easier to access and clean relative to my old Whirlpool (which is not bad either). The drain system has also been working well. I continue to use the gravity drain attached to a Little Giant condensate pump (b/c I already had it set up for the basement drain), so have not been using the internal electric pump.
For reference, my basement stays around 59 degrees most of the year with a low of around 53 in a real cold snap. I have been pleased that this unit's humidistat seems to work very well, in that the unit shuts off and on as appropriate. I have a separate humidistat about 20 feet from the unit that confirms the unit's readings. All the more impressive because on some brands the humidistat is located in such as way that it is impacted by the operation of the de-humidifier and thus not as useful.
There's an illuminated digital readout of the air's temp and humidity that's easy to read from several feet away so you can check the room's status at a glance. The unit will restart/resume if the power goes out.
The air moves in through the front of the unit and exhausts straight up from the top. There are no air vents on the rear or sides so you have lots of options where you can position the unit relative to walls and other things in the room.
I can't hear it running from the 1st floor when it's down in the basement. Standing next to the unit the compressor hum is barely audible, but the fan has two speeds... strong, and stronger, and both are very audible and may distract from a phone conversation or watching TV.
It heats the room quite a bit, so it would only be comfortable to use in living areas if the room is naturally cool or forcibly cooled.
As for its 50 pint performance, it has no problem handling a 1,500 square foot sump-pumped basement during rainy days and holds humidity below 50% (I have it set to 45%). As a test I put the drain hose into a bucket and it filled it up in less than a day.
Overall, I'm very happy with it. It appears to be a quality product. I will consider the Friedrich brand again. If you think the handy pump feature may be useful now or in the future, this model is a great choice. If you are planning to have it in your bedroom, office or where you watch TV, be aware that when it's busy dehumidifying, the powerful fan makes very audible air whoosh noise, even on the low setting.
I think these are generally nicer than the DeLonghi model, due to the fact that the Delonghi has a "pump" button that needs to be set to make the pump work. I tested a power failure situation and the "pump" light was not illuminated/reset once power resumed. The Friedrich has an automatic switch when you connect the pump hose. No need to have the 'pump' button set.
In terms of aesthetics, I think the Friedrich looks nicer, considering both the drain hose, and the pump hose is in the back. The DeLonghi has the pump hose right in the front of the unit. Since I'm using the pump/drain hose instead of manually emptying the bucket, there is no need for me to see how much the bucket is filled (a feature of the DeLonghi).
I did order two of these units, and one of them was producing a very loud humming noise. If I put a little pressure on it, it would stop the insane rattling. Clearly the product should not have passed QC, so I did return one of them. The one that is working, works like a charm and I personally think is a little better than the Delonghi.

I bought this dehumidifier to replace an aging one in my basement. I decided to get the Friedrich D50AP because it has a built-in pump. That feature freed me to locate it in an optimal location and run the supplied 15' clear hose to my sink, rather than be limited to locating the unit near my floor drain and using a gravity drain hose. There's an illuminated digital readout of the air's temp and humidity that's easy to read from several feet away so you can check the room's status at a glance. I bought 2 of these Friedrich D50AP in addition to a DeLonghi DD50P 50 Pt. Honest reviews on Friedrich D50AP 50 Pint Dehumidifier with built-in drain pump
We had mushrooms growing in the cracks of our 1914 old Portland 900 sq ft full basement floor. It was time. I never heard of this brand before, we got the 50 pint Fredrich after reading all the reviews. I plugged in the unit in and hooked up the pump drain hose to the washing machine drain, on low it is quiet, it ran solid for about 6 hours and dropped the humidity from 88% to 45% and then just cycles on and off. I measured electrical usage, it uses 525 watts on low fan when on, with no vampire load at all. It makes a little heat which is welcome in our cold basement. We've had the unit for 1 week now, and I'm super happyFind helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Friedrich D50AP 50 Pint Dehumidifier with built-in drain pump
I am using this product in my basement. I bought it to replace an older Sears model. I found it to be quieter and like the continuous drain feature. I used it for a week before installing the drain and found the bucket was not very sturdy. Now that the drain is hooked up it is working out fine. Also it is an Energy Star product and it is less expensive to run than my older model. I would recommend this product only if you plan to use the continuous drain feature.Tuesday, May 27, 2014
Review of Honeywell HCM-1000 3 Gallon Cool Mist Humidifier
Getting another humidifier has become a regular 3-month affair in our household with three bedrooms. Every Walmart/Target brand either has the fan die, is impossible to clean, or the filter is pressed against the side so that water leaks out and ruins the dresser. I've given up on the diffusers since the electrode gets corroded and the moisture just hangs in the corner.
So, we've now grabbed a Honeywell (Humidifier number 8). There is a handle on both the top and bottom of the tank, so it's easy to fill and easy to place into the humidifier. The 3 fan speeds are evenly set (one humidifier had 2 "barely breathing" settings followed by "jet turbine.") The humidity setting is a nice touch, but we usually set it for full blast anyways. The fan grill easily pops off so you can clean the fan blades. The water basin is separate from the motor assembly, so you can conceivably toss the whole bottom frame into the dishwasher to clean out the usual water deposit build-up that occurs with humidifiers. The filter is pretty large and it is not pressed against any of the sides, so NO LEAKS. It's been happily humming for over a month now with no issues.
Yah...I'm happy! I'm writing this as I buy a couple more for the rest of the rooms. It's a great price for a surprisingly capable humidifier.

The sound level at medium is quite acceptable as I like a bit of "white noise" to get to sleep. I can hear the TV at a lowish volume with the unit on medium, if that helps anyone gauge how noisy medium is. The noise level at high is too loud.
They offer a water treatment product to help breakdown minerals in the water. I was unable to find it locally or on Amazon, but the Kaz website sells it for about $3.00 for a small bottle, plus shipping. I thought it was too pricey and hope the filter lasts the season, at which time I'll discard the filter.

We own two of these, and have had no problems with either of them for the past 5 years. For us, they are perfect in the winter for our children's rooms and provide a consistent amount of humidity, a level which we are able to choose. There are 3 fan levels which determines how much humidity is "blown" into the air. The lowest fan level is a soft hum, with the highest being rather loud. In addition, you can customize the level of moisture control; from maximum to light. The machine stops once dry (but remains on) and an indicator light comes on reminding you to either shut it off or refill. Stock up on filters and know that you will need to refill the machine every other night (at least) when used at the medium level of humidity and fan.Best Deals for Honeywell HCM-1000 3 Gallon Cool Mist Humidifier
This Honeywell humidifier works great. I live in the Northeast and bought this humidifier at the beginning of winter this year. It took almost one full week before it reached optimal humidity but it is now so much more comfortable in my house. I've bought other brands at similar price points and this is by far the best. To extend the life of the filter use the Protec cleaning cartridge.Honest reviews on Honeywell HCM-1000 3 Gallon Cool Mist Humidifier
The unit was bought to humidify an average size bedroom. It does it well, (with the door closed) provided it is run on medium speed; low speed just doesn't cut it. To its credit, it is compact and pretty quiet. I run it only overnight and a full tank of water lasts 2 or 3 nights. The major flaw is it occasionally overflows at the base when not in operation. Therefore, I have to remove the water dispenser every morning to prevent a surprise puddle of water on the floor during the day.Friday, January 3, 2014
Buy Vicks Nursery 1 Gallon Vaporizer with Night-Light
My girls are 14 months old and we have been using the same Vicks Vaporizer since my girls were around 2 months old, they both got colds so my husband picked one of these up at our local store.
It started steaming in a few minutes and there was a lot of steam. We had our girls at the Dr and he said it was only a virus so he said we could give them saline nose drops & use a vaporizer. Having a vaporizor really does make a difference when you have a cold and since there is not usually a lot you can do for babies I definately recommend getting one. The 1st night they got sick & we didn't have the vaporizor my girls coughed a lot more but once we had it they coughed a lot less.
Since then my girls have been sick what seems like close to a Billion times. This has been used a ton of times & we've never had a problem with it, always heats up fast & gives lots of steam.
Helpful things we use when our girls are sick since you can't give babies many things.
*Vaporizer-safe for any age
*Saline Nose Drops-we used @ 2 months but you should ask your Dr
*Vicks BABYRub-3 months & up
*Johnsons Soothing Vapor Bath-3 months & up
*Hylands C-Plus Cold Tablets-1 year & up
The 1 Gallon Vaporizer usually doesn't have enough water to steam all night(my girls sleep 11-12hrs) but it steams enough the majority of the night when I think they need it most(if you want it to steam longer buy the 1 1/2 gallon vicks). If I go in their room during the night I can tell a HUGE difference compared to our room, their room is comfy/warm & easy to breathe
***If this doesn't steam within 10 minutes all you have to do is add salt. Also, if you get buildup or residue inside all you have to do is soak it in white vingar-DO NOT PLUG IT IN-we had some buildup when I let this sit with water for over a month(I forgot) so I soaked it in vinegar water for several hours & rinsed it very well. It was pretty clean with very minor residue left inside. Had I let it soak in the vinegar longer it would have gotten all of it out, that is what I remember my parents doing when I was little.
Water tends not to get as many particles after a full days use as smaller units for some reason
Night light nice but not too bright.
Unit fits perfectly in bathroom sink to be refilled.
Mine operates for about 15 or 16 hours before it needs to be refilled!
1. There is no easy way to tell how much water is left, short of popping the top off. More expensive models let you see how much water is left. This was the most annoying feature for me.
2. To replace the water, you have to take the top off, set it to the side, and carry the bottom part to a water source. More expensive models let you detach a water holder and fill that.
3. On switch is on the cord. It just makes me nervous handling water and reaching for the power cord.
However, it does do the job! If you want more features, get a more expensive model. If not, this is a great device for the price.

Works fine though with small capacity; runs for 8-9 hours. Compact for easy storage and a good value (I paid $11.96) for a basic vaporizer. When you first insert the heating element it tends to float up but then settles into place as the water seeps in. (It lacks a lock or screw tight mechanism.) We have used this overnight in our bedroom when fighting a cold. You may need to add baking soda to make it work faster depending on the level of minerals in your water.Honest reviews on Vicks Nursery 1 Gallon Vaporizer with Night-Light
I bought this vaporizer several weeks ago. I feel better after I use this. It created steam very fast (about 2-3 minutes after plugging). You may have to fill some salt to make it create a lot of steam. However, a lot of steam means the water will decrease rapidly so if you want to use this vick for a long time(about 12-20 hours), you may not need to use salt.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Vicks Nursery 1 Gallon Vaporizer with Night-Light
