Giving it 4 stars only because it seems that the Vicks folks could think of a little bit better design. I'm assuming this filter works in several other styles of humidifiers but, it does it job. We have well water and I strongly suggest the Protec balls that you can stick inside the water to take to extend the quality of the water.

one of the problems with Humidifier filters is that a lot of brands claim they can fit any brand. I have discovered this isn't true. So when I found the brand I need at the right price, I jumped on it. even with shipping these are cheaper then most brick and mortar stores.

My humidor is down to 67% and dropping. It may be the Xikar solution. The Xikar combo of solution and humidifier does not work.

User error. I expected the RH to remain in the 70-75% range where my Savoy humidifier kept it. After discussions with Xikar support I learned that the Xikar 50 will keep RH above 62% and under 70%, the preferred range. After 3 weeks of use the RH has remained in the 63-68% range.

I've had my trusty humidor for a while and thought it was time for an upgrade so I shopped around and considered my options. I had finally choose this product! It is a great crystal humidifier which is a big upgrade from the original sponge. It keeps a constant humidity of 70% with the Xikar Solution which is needed. A paper warns not to use 50/50 solutions but Xikars own solution. Truly the Xikar solution offers a more stable humidity levels over time while the 50/50 solution will fluctuate more and might gum up the humidifier. Xikar says their solution evaporates evenly for a more balanced level of humidity without the rapid fluctuations of the 50/50 solutions. So to be on the safeside I would recommend you purchase the Xikar Solution. The humidifier is clear so you know visibly when to refill with solution as you can see the crystals have shrank and shriveled. They swell up when refilled and disperse the solution over time! It will be months before you need to refill!

All in All, it's a great product and highly recommended 10/10

This contains my previous reviews of the same product that used to be a three pack sold through Amazon(now sold as single Protec WF2 Extended Life Replacement Humidifier Filter through outside retailer). This purchase was a bulk 6 x single filter through AmericanWholesale. Shipping through them was only $1.99, extremely quick and made me up my review 1 star. I also use the ProTec Humidifier Tank Cleaning Cartridges. A 2 pack will just last me the winter months. They do help keep the water cleaner and the filters lasting about 6 weeks each.

Old reviews: I purchase these every year for my Vicks humidifier. I have spent way beyond what the machine itself cost me on filters. Each filter lasts about a month to 6 weeks before getting moldy and stops wicking the water. I only use the humidifier for about 4 months in the Winter, which a 3 pack of filters is good for. I would use it all year if I did not have to keep replacing the filters. If someone knows a better choice of longer lasting filters, please post.(5/5/2008)

12/9/08-Too bad this is the only place I have easily found these. I cannot believe they have gone up $10 in cost since I purchased them a year ago (11/30/07)!

This was a great price for a 6-pack of these filters. They are necessary for the humidifier, but they do have a short life span. It's just part of the reality for them. We use only filtered water to fill the tank, open the top and leave it open to the air during the day, and try to clean out the unit reasonably regularly. This lengthens the lifespan, but unfortunately you just have to get used to them needing to be replaced.

These filters have only one issue to keep it from being perfect they are a bit too short and narrow. It's a real pain to have to keep trying filters until you find one that can be relied on to be long lasting and has great performance. Now that I've tried this one several times I can honestly say it's the best one so far. Will certainly buy from Crucial Air again.

05920 Hamilton Beach Humidifier Wick Filter

I have ordered these filters from Filters-Now.com before without any problems, but this is the first time I've ordered them through Amazon with Filters Now as the seller. Unlike the previous filters I've ordered, these have a very strong odor and don't have the same microbe coating as the ones from filters-now.com. The moment I inserted them in the water, they became soaked from top to bottom. Anyone who has had a good filter knows that the microbe coating keeps them from being drenched right away. This coating is essential to protect them from mold and to allow them to last a couple months. These are completely unusable and I wouldn't recommend them.

The product itself is fine. I ordered this particular set for the brackets. I wanted to stick them in the lid of our diaper pail. Our pail is really a kitchen trash pail and doesn't have a place for deodorant disks. The adhesive on the brackets is pretty weak. So they fell off after a few opening and closings of the lid.

Just bought these at Target. First of all, the air freshener does not stay in the clip, it falls right out. Second of all, the fragrance isn't strong enough to make a difference. Right now I have it sitting on top of the diaper pail, just to see if I can smell it (I put it on the inside of the pail & it fell out) and I smell nothing. These are going back to the store.

I've had a number of humidifiers and this one fairs favorably to most. First, it uses a cool air wick rather than a sonicator (which puts the water contaminants on your furniture and in your lungs) or a heater (which is inefficient, gets horrible mineral buildup which is very difficult to clean, and can cause fire hazards). It has a huge tank. And it has a humidistat so you can just turn it on and forget about it, aside from refilling it every day or two. It will get the humidity where you want it not too dry, not too humid. For these reasons, I recommend this unit.

The downsides: It is not as nice as the model it replaced (which I also have) which looks almost exactly the same. The controls and display are a little less obvious they added more functionality with too few buttons. That is easily dealt with by deciding how you want to use it and then always putting it in that mode. I like to set the fan to low or medium (so it is nice and quiet and you hardly hear it) and then set the humidity to 30, 35, or 40. As others here have mentioned, the hygrometer is a bit flaky. At times it is stable. At times it jumps around a bit. This can lead the system to turn on and off in response to changes in the measured humidity. It still gets the humidity to roughly what you set it to (as I've verified with a separate hygrometer). And if you don't have the fan set too high, you don't really notice that it turns on and off a bit more than it needs to. Mine has not turned on and off in short succession that frequently, although sometimes it does. It doesn't appear to impact its efficacy or accuracy, although if the fan is high and the room is quiet, it might really bug some people on the occassions it cuts on and off. Some people here report more aggressive cycling than I've observed. Sunbeam really should fix this and ponder a user interface tweak. The improvement over the previous model is that it continuously reports the hygrometer reading, which is really nice.

I'm giving this 4 stars because I still greatly prefer this over all the other humidifiers I've ever owned (and about the same as the model this one obsoleted).

For those saying they aren't sure if it humidifies their room, get a hygrometer. You know, those digital temperature/humidity sensors with the LCD panel. I have one from Honeywell. This humidifier is able to keep my humidity at 40% in a LOFT apartment in Nebraska winters. We're talking below zero, frozen and humidity in the teens without a humidifier. In a single level apartment, it can get us to 50% but I keep it at 45. It is about twice as capable as a warm mist humidifier that can't get the room above 30%. PLUS, the warm one requires about 230w of electricity to run vs about 30w for the fan in this one. PLUS, the heater block in the warm mist unit must be soaked in white vinegar and have the minerals scraped off of it periodically. Pain in the butt, and not worth it.

The downside? The filter must be washed in a bucket of soap water every so often or it accumulates pink/black mold and smells funny. It won't hurt you, but it is unpleasant. That's the only reason I don't give it 5 stars.

I like the automatic setting. I want 45%? It will hold it there. That way I don't have to touch the thing until its running empty.

Use distilled water ONLY for the best results, as with all humidifiers.

-Auto humidity regulation (great for our guitars which need ~45% all the time)

Cons:

-I have exclusively used Brita distilled water on this, and the filter still needs to be cleaned/changed at least once a month.

Other thoughts:

-We fill the tank once every three days to keep a 300 sq ft room humidified at 45%

-We have three acoustic guitars that we can leave out and not worry about with the regulator

-We had to get used to the continual on/off's throughout the day because we run it on "Auto 1" at 45% humidity

Cleaning the filter:

-Place the filter in the sink or bucket, fill with warm water, add some bleach (and stir), let sit for 15 minutes, rinse with cold water, stick back in humidifier damp

No, it is not the quietest humidifier on the block, but its no worse than a box fan in the window in the summer. I find it very effective at doing its job and it is easy to maintain. With regular use and recommended filter changes, mold is not an issue and it removes some of the dust from the air. The only reason I'm replacing it is because I damaged the one I've had for 3 years when I moved. Getting another one just like it.

I bought this in mid December to replace an earlier version of this humidifier that ran for at least a decade (the humidistat on the old one is a slider knob...). I learned with the first unit to religiously use the bacteriostat, which I can buy at the local bed and bath store that sends those never expiring coupons. Other than that, I pretty much neglect the unit until end of season, when the wicking filter gets the vinegar treatment and I decide whether or not it will make it to next season. It's used mainly in a 12 x 14 bedroom, although the door is always left open. Definitely provides needed humiditydry air nosebleeds are gone. It sits on a braided area rug, which helps absorb some of the sound from the fan. After seeing the buildup of white, sticky mineral deposits inside of my stereo and other electronics from my ultrasonic humidifiers, I switched to these wicking style machines years ago. I'd rather the buildup occur on the wick than in my lungs, on my skin, and all over the house.

As others have written, the fan can cycle frequently, especially when you first start it up. I think this digital humidistat is more sensitive than my old, analog slider, and sometimes causes the fan to cycle more frequently. Like other sounds in your house, you learn to ignore it, but I think it helps if the unit is on a sound absorbing surface rather than a hard floor or hard tabletop.

For the money, I am happy with this machine. I hope it lasts as long as the first one did.

This humidifier produces natural environment. It is easy to use and maintain. I put it in a dishwasher and run the dishwasher for cleaning. The water lasts at least one to 5 days depending on temperature. I have purchased 3 G-midifiers last year and just ordered 2 more today. It is great for dorm if the student can wash it using a dishwasher at the dorm. Since my son can come back from the dorm to home every weekend, this humidifier is perfect to make his dorm room comfortable and can be washed often. Downside is that this humidifier occupies a half space of one of dishwasher racks when washing. So, I have to run dishwasher more often to wash 5 G-midifiers.

I wrote a very positive review on the original G-Midifier which humidifies without any of the drawbacks of electrical units. This new design is blue and a bit smaller in size, but it's easier to refill without carrying it to the sink. One end of the unit leaves an open area which can be filled with water from a pitcher without getting water all over the floor. Now I just carry the water to the G-Midifier instead of carrying the G-Midifiers to the sink. I don't know if the curved evaporation pads impede airflow, but it seems the water doesn't evaporate quite a quickly as in the former design, but this design is easier to use and still gets the job done.

Good:

The PH110 is accurate and cheap. I am able to get repeatable flavor and texture when I make cheese, because I can hit all my markers.

Bad:

The PH110 requires fiddling every time I want to use it. It requires at least one calibration when I take it out of the cabinet. Then if I wait more than a couple of hours between uses, it requires another calibration. Calibration isn't difficult, but it can get pricy because you have to buy pouches of calibration solution. I put the solution in a tupperware bowl and reuse it for a day or two.

Ugly:

A couple of times, I had to remove the batteries to reset it because it locked up during a calibration.

I bought this to use for cheese making, and it has fulfilled all my expectations, including the ability to check the pH of the cheese itself, rather than just the whey as most other meters are limited to.

I can only hope that it will prove as reliable in the long run as it has in the short run, providing reliable information to 2 decimal points, which comes in very handy.

I love it and would recommend it to anyone needing such accuracy and reliability.

It does not take reliable pH readings (answer changes if retested within an hour), and now the display tells me the meter is reaching the end of its life. Their tech support phone number has been disconnected. Don't buy this meter!! I am going to try to return it.

This meter did not calibrate, even after following the troubleshooting instructions directly from Extech's website. I turned the meter upside downand tapped on the tip with the pad of my finger and the glass on the tip broke. I didn't know glass could be this thin (it broke) not durable in any way shape or form. Not sure what environment this was designed for but certainly not mine. I shipped it back for a refund. If you ever dropped this it would surely break the glass.
