It works as expected. In the 1st 6 hours it removed over 1 gallon of water from the air and reduced the humidity 15%. It does put out some heat but that is to be expected of all dehumidifiers that do not have an outside air ventilation system.

My house has condensation issues on the inside, so i got this to lower the humidity. Fixed the problem. But it is louder than the clothes drier and squeeks a terrible racket for a brand new appliance. It cycles on and off to keep the pump from not over heating or something I guess but it still will not get the humidity below 50% I have a fairly small house.

After owning it about a month, I am quite impressed with this unit.

It is relatively quiet -especially on low fan speed-and it will really pull the moisture from the air.

I like the top display that shows the ambient room temp as well as the humidity percentage. The device can be adjusted to a wide range of target humidity levels.

It also features the ability to resume its duties automatically following a power outage. Other units must be restarted manually. That is a great feature for us as our electricity can "blink" off a couple of times a month.

I can highly recommend this unit.

I owned a previous model from Danby. Used it for just under 3 years seasonally. It stopped condensing moisture. Still looks new otherwise. This newer model has an improved design for hose connection. It comes with a long hose. Nice. So far, works fine. 2 year warranty comes with it. Hopefully, it will last long. It's noisy. I guess most of them are noisy.

Granted, I have only had this unit for one day but I wish to post some observations. First off, the 1st unit was doa. Amazon shipped me another overnight at no extra cost to me. Kudos to Amazon. This is replacing a 5 year old unit that was recently recalled.

I had a hard time finding how energy efficient this unit was. I couldn't even find out how many watts it used. Even the Danby site doesn't mention this. Oh, and I went to energystar.gov to try and find it, but haha, it is closed due to the government shutdown. Sure you can get to the main page of it, but all lists and details are not available. Only a front or main page. Ridiculous.

So I grabbed my trusty Killawatt to measure it. With the fan speed on low it uses 276 watts. It was also drawing 2.59 amps and after 4 hours it used 1.07 kwh. Where I live that cost me around 8 cents, or 2 cents an hour, or a half a buck per day. VERY energy efficient.

It comes with its own 4' hose in order to use continuous drain. It also has two fan speeds, high and low. It is small and light and come with caster wheels for the bottom of it,which are easy to install, if needed. It also is a tad noisy, not loud mind you, but noisy. It also works very well. Took my humidity level from 71% to 59% in four hours. It has an easily accessible filter that can be vacuumed and washed off. It is recommended that the unit be 8" from the back wall in order to dissipate heat. I use this in my 500 sq ft (3700 cu ft) unfinished basement and didn't notice any heat from the unit, in fact the temperature dropped from 64 degrees to 60 during my initial 4 hour power test.

I will update this in the future if anything changes but so far I am very pleased. I would highly recommend it.

UPDATE #1. Once the unit reaches its adjustable humidity level the compressor goes off and the fan stays on. When this happens the amp draw is .3, or 32 watts being used.

I have used Paradigm humidifiers for about 15 years including every size from the 15 to the 250. I use the small ones inside cedar drawers with loose cigars, while the large ones hang from each shelf in my two large cabinet humidors. I have also tried dozens of cheaper models, which have their uses, as when you're stockpiling moist elements in dry winter months. But Paradigm humidifiers provide consistent, mold-resistant long-lasting humidification. After being immersed in clean distilled water for ten minutes (less time for smaller units) the Paradigm 250 is significantly heavier than before it was dunked, due to the weight of water absorbed by the unique media inside each Paradigm unit. I also use powered humidifiers like the Oasis II XL, and while they can be effective at moving moist air around the cabinet, the Paradigms do the "heavy lifting" of keeping cigars moist and fresh. In a dry winter, a Paradigm 250 will hold a charge for a month or more, while cheaper foam and bead cartridges must be refilled every week. The cheap units get light as a feather in just a few days, and they don't absorb enough moisture, with the excess running out of the unit and onto your cigars. That's why I keep the cheap units face-up on the floor, ONLY! The bead cartridges are particularly bad at this; they rattle like a maraca when they run dry, but when you add distilled water, they are slow to absorb and there's no way to tell if you've added too much, causing the cartridge to "explode" as the suddenly-full beads break their casings.

And the Paradigms don't wear out easily. Every one I've ever used has lasted at least four full years of wet-dry-wet-dry-wet, etc use before the water storage medium starts to take on less water. When this happens, I do eventually replace the unit with another Paradigm. The storage media inside each unit is remarkable. It absorbs distilled water in large amounts in winter for discharge into the humidor, while it also absorbs excess moisture from the environment inside the humidor to help avoid over-humidification and the mold and beetle problems that come with too much moisture.

In terms of use and maintenance, the Paradigm is simple. I use an empty ice bucket to hold my Paradigms vertically to ensure maximum soaking of the medium, and I squeeze as many Paradigm units as possible into the bucket, before filling it to the brim with clean distilled water. That way, thanks to Archimedes' Principle, I can use less water to fill the bucket to the top and cover the slots with water. Then, after ten minutes, or when the bubbles stop, I take them out, blot them dry, and deploy them in my cabinets. Despite their increased water weight, the included magnets keep a firm but movable grip on the units while strong sticky material (odorless, of course) grips the top of the shelf, so the Paradigm can hang over my cigars and provide maximum coverage. The magnets and stickers included with the floral foam or bead cartridges are a joke; they are not strong enough to hold a charged cartridge and, even if they were, the foam/bead media would leak all over the cigars because the foam and beads don't absorb every drop that goes into the cartridge. When necessary, I use these cheaper things as "bowls" of distilled water on the floor of the shelf or on top of a cigar box. In that configuration, gravity does not help percolate the moisture through the cabinet, as it does with the Paradigms. The Paradigms can't drip because the water-holding media is stronger and because the only openings are side-slits, so gravity does not pull down dripping water from the reservoir. It's a simple, durable and effective design.

With Paradigm, I have been able to age some cigars more than a decade, and they feel as fresh and spongy as the day I bought them. In fact, friends without working humidors frequently bring me cigars that were stored in the box (with no humidification) or, even worse, the refrigerator or freezer. If the cigars have not cracked or suffered severe damage, my Paradigm systems can bring them back, but it is a slow process.

I rarely have had any problems with any Paradigm products, but I have gone though a lot of them over the years, and there was one occasion about 10 years ago when a new, large Paradigm wasn't holding water well. The manufacturer sent me a new one free of charge (including shipping), as well as extra magnets and an additional small unit. Occasionally, an end cap will pop off during a recharge; this can be fixed with a little super glue (VERY little be careful not to spill any onto the foam) or scotch tape. I trust my prized cigars to Paradigm, the best product of its kind on the market today.

Patience is the key to using this item. It keeps my cigars at the correct humidity and gives me the perfect smoke every time. Using distilled water is another key. Taking the insert out and soaking it in the distilled water before putting it back inside can help and be another key to success.

Good Luck

I use paradigms in every humidor. You just add distilled water and forget about it. Many times I'll go 2-3 months without refilling.

Honest reviews on Paradigm PSH 6 Humidifier 250 Cigars

I have 3 Diamond Crowns, 1 Ashton, 1 Prometheus, 2 Savinelli and a Fuente Fuente plus 10 mid level humidors. I have used Xikar, Dr RH products that work well but got tired of buying the Xikar solution. I purchased the Paradigm PSH-6's to try in two of my big boxes, a Savoy 150 & Prometheus. I wish I would not have waited so long to purchase the Paradigm! They work great! As my Xikar gel humidifiers wear out I will be replacing them with the Paradigm's. Good quality product that is well designed and built. I don't know what happened to the individuals that had problems but if the units are charged correctly they work absolutely awesome! The end caps do come off to properly prepare the system, pop the end cap back on and it is good to go!

Had it for 4 week now and can only get my humidor up to 56%. I recondition my 200 cigar humidor before I installed it, I have around 75 cigars in it. I did better with the Humi-care gel crystals, with them I had 66%. Would not recommend it, unless you have some money you just want to get rid of.

I love this little miracle. I expected it to leave a puddle during use but it makes no mess at all. The rumble from the motor is very soothing. Easy to use. I took away one star because the threading on the various size water bottle caps is very specific & tight so you can't use a common water bottle. The bottle needed is more like a sparkling, mineral water bottle than anything else; I also found my plastic vinegar bottle (from Krasdale) had the correct threading. It doesn't fit my Nalgene or any other of my permanent water bottles. I am a singer and used to some humidity, so this is excellent for travelling. It's easy to pack, I haven't had any need to clean it yet, I haven't had any problems at all. Also the description says there are "Two different sized bottle adapters" when it actually comes with 3.

Very much recommended!

After 1 year of use, still working great. The output stream is adequate for single room (hotel, bedroom). The volume of steam it puts into the air is pretty small, so when you first turn it on, it takes a while (an hour or more) to get enough water into the air to affect the humidity.

---------Original ------------

Great product so far (after first two days).

Seems to be a follow on design of the older SU-1051 (similar to the old Air Swiss design), which fixes the main problems of the SU-1051 (and Air Swiss) design. It comes with 3 different sized bottle adapters, no annoying light, no leakage of which to speak. Outputs a small, but steady stream of mist, which seems adequate for a normal sized room (hotel, bedroom).

-small, lightweight, portable (with carrying bag)

-quiet

This humidifier does not work. The first day I tried it out, after a few minutes, the steam stopped emitting from the nozzle unless I touched or shook the unit. I tried the trouble shooting suggestion in the instructions and washed the nozzle, but it still didn't work. I give up on personal humidifiers. This is the second one I've bought, each were different brands and different models, and neither one worked from day 1.

Honest reviews on Sunpentown SU-1052 Portable Personal Humidifier with ION

This think leaked everywhere from day one. I really tried to make it work. I fiddled with it and got it to at least stop leaking and it misted maybe 10 minutes. It just sat there with the water bubbling but nothing coming out, like it needed a fan or something. Then all of a sudden, the water started flowing from the bottle without stopping and soaked everything again. Dried everything out and tried again. No improvement. Seriously? How could a manufacturer sell a product this poor they have to know it doesn't work! Its not like it worked for awhile and stopped. One DAY people!

We used this one night while staying in a cabin at the beach. The next night, it would create the mist, but the fan that blows it out stopped working. I tried completely drying it out, checking again, but no... the fan motor doesn't work. And of course I'm outside of the return window since this isn't something we use every day. Whether it's junky quality control or junky components, it still equals junk. Don't waste your money.

My filter arrived quickly, it is Holmes brand, and is exactly what I needed for my humidifier, but there is only 1 filter in the box, not 2 as indicated on the product description. I paid more for this filter than other places because I believed I was getting 2 filters. Waiting for the seller to make it right.

UPDATE 1-9-10 The seller sent another filter right away to make things right. But the product description still says "two filters per box" be warned, you may only receive 1

I was expecting the packaging to be branded Holmes but it wasn't. Compared to what I consider the original version of the filter, what we got wasn't of like quality. I would say it was lower quality. We're also going through them quicker than the originals. Just over a week for each filter and that's after running it 12-15 hours per day.

We couldn't find these filters anywhere else, Target, BBB, RiteAid, Walgreen's, none of them had it. I guess Holmes or whomever doesn't manufacture them anymore.

The installation on this product was pretty straight forward. The only problem I find is when the water solonoid is turned on there is no "flow" control over the water going in to the humidifier media and there is a LOT of wasted water. After using this a month I found it DOUBLED my water bill because of all the wasted water down the drain. I have since disconnected this humidifer because I don't need to spend that type of money going down the drain. It would be nice if there was some type of float device that would fill up and the meter the water in to the media and be used instead of pouring water down the drain.

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

We have had this for two years now. It worked well in the first year as we saw a significant reduction of static in the house in the winter. We saw a lot of water drain, just like the first reviewer. The second year did not go well as I noticed the fan running and no water flowing. I had to drain the water line and take apart the flow assembly to clean it to get the water to start to flow. It has been trickling and I have to say it is not running like it did in the first year. I'm trying to see if a little TLC might help it along and we get more use out of it.

Best Deals for General Aire 1137 Legacy Series Power Humidifier

I've done commercial and residential heating and air since '97 and have installed literally 100s of these, maybe more. Truth be told there is no difference between this and the other powered humidifiers. They all work off the same principle. These are very easy to service and simple to install and are my favorite just because parts are easy to get. The media pads are available all over the web as well as most hardware stores.

As for the other reviews indicating the massive water waste, they are not installing this properly. Any central humidifier (as in mounted to a furnace) needs the control wires to be tied into the heating circuit on the control board. In fact, most newer furnaces if not all of them also have contacts for landing the 110V wires on so that it can only run during a heating cycle (usually marked "HUM"). Set up properly, this unit will not use that much water. Running this humidifier when the furnace is not in a heating cycle (not just the fan running, but actually heating) is a complete waste of power and waternot to mention how much faster you will wear out the pads.

Honest reviews on General Aire 1137 Legacy Series Power Humidifier

We've had this unit for over 10 years, aside from changing the filter it's been maintenance free. A proper installation will include a airflow microswitch that turns the on the fan and allows water flow only when the heater's blower is on. If you don't have this then your installation is not complete and you'll waste a lot of water. During the spring and summer I unplug the unit, shut the water supply off to it and remove and clean the filter compartment which is easy to do.

During the winter when quests come over they all notice the lack of static electricity along with the fact the air just feels better and it's easier to breathe.

We were in the market for a humidifier for the winter months due to sore throats/dry throats at night. So we purchased this unit. I've read reviews on other products and most of them did not give a clear enough why it was either bad nor good. So we figured might as well give this product a whirl being the price was right and we could return it at the local Target store.

To our surprise this unit works as intended albeit the unusually loud fan (even on the lowest setting). But to us the white noise it generates is actually welcomed in our bedroom. It's not any louder than my custom gaming computer fans that i leave on running at night. This product is used in our room which measures 17ftx17ft. The air humidity at night is just right now. For the first time in the winter months me and the wifey got good sleep!! we both woke up with no sore throats or dry sinuses!

So in short review here are the PRO's and CON's

PRO's : Works as advertised. capable of humidifying a room of 17ft x 17ft with ease. Water tank holds a good amount of water. Run time on it is 16hrs filled. Easy to fill tank. Easy to clean. Comes with 2 extra filters.

CON's : Slightly loud fan (if you like white noise at night) then this would be a plus :) Would be nicer if it had one more lower level for the fan speed for the people that complain about the slight noise.

This product is worth the price! would recommend it to anyone looking into a Humidifier for a bedroom or a living room.

This humidifier is essentially 3 pieces: the reservoir, the actual "unit" with the fan, and the base. A paper filter sits inside the actual "unit" with the dial, and sucks up water from the base. The fan blows on the wet filter and voila: humidifier.

The fan itself is fairly noisy much like a desk fan. You have the option to select low or high on the fan, and select a month from another dial which is completely useless.

The worst part about this unit is the fact that the filter lasts for about a week before it starts reeking. It is like your kitchen sponge, the stagnant water in the unit and the wet filter is a breeding ground for bacteria. You get 2 filters, but you'll go through them very quickly.

Best Deals for Holmes HM1300BF-UM Cool Mist Humidifier

I've had this humidifier for about 3 months now, and have been pleased! It does moisturize, but it seem so go through filters awfully fast (about 20 days or so, I think the box says...) I know some reviews say it is loud, but it is good for just white noise, actually. Only on the second setting is it a bit too loud.

I've been using this daily for a month. I didn't mind the sound as I can't sleep in silence anyway but if someone does want it silent, this is not the humidifier for you. I used and cleaned exactly as it recommended but have felt no added moisture at all. Wish I could send it back.

The 7147 is the quietest humidifier we have ever owned. It has easy to read digital controls, and the humidistat stays within one degree of one that also hangs on the wall in our bedroom. The filters do their job nicely and the warm mist setting keeps the room from feeling clammy.

The only issues I have with this humidifier is the way in which it is refilled. The oddly shaped top tank lifts off the pedestal control base and the refill opening is on the bottom of the tank. When you lift the tank off the pedestal daily to refill water drips everywhere as the tank sits in a pool of water. You then flip over the tank and remove the fill cap, which also happens to be connected to the filter! When you pull the filter out (which is filled with water) it drips everywhere! You then hold the oddly shaped tank upside down to refill. Since the top is now the bottom, and it is not flat you cannot set down the tank to refill. You also must contend with the nozzle where the mist sprays from, making a refill quite a challenge without getting everything around you wet!

Then you must re-insert the filter cartridge to seal the tank which displaces water. Since there is no fill line, it is easy to overfill the tank, and when the water is then displaced by the filter as you close the tank it squirts out! A simple opening on the top could have easily eliminated this problem!

The filler issue is the reason I rated the item a four out of five. It could and should be much better! Also, the controls do not remember previous settings once turned off, so you must reset your desired humidity level and fan speed each time you turn on the machine. It would be nice if previous settings were remembered!

We have been so pleased with the performance of the original Air-O-Swiss AOS 7145 Ultrasonic Humidifier Cool Mist in our 300 sq.ft. bedroom that we decided to upgrade and put the 7145 in our son's room. The AOS 7147 is identical to the 7145 with some excellent additional features. I love the controls that provide; readings of the current humidity level, ability to set the desired target humidity level, and the ability to pre-heat the water to improve efficiency.

The one thing about which I have a minor complaint is the mist output level control. The 7145 has a dial control that allows for a continuous adjustment of the mist output. The 7147 touch controls provide only 3 absolute settings: low, high & high+. Frankly, I prefer the continuously variable mist output control of the 7145.

We are relegated to using well water which pretty much "eats up" wicks in evaporative type humidifiers, forcing frequent and costly replacements several times in a season. The mineral cartridge included with both the 7145 & the 7147 (but not needed where water is soft) does its job in treating hard water so the humidifier works as intended.

In the end I find this to be a product well worth the cost. Maintenance is easy, expensive replacement wicks are unnecessary, and the humidifier is reliable. I highly recommend this to anyone, but especially where hard water is an issue.

(Update 02/18/13)

Still using this daily without any problems. Still gives whisper quiet operation (the less expensive 7145 is a bit noisy, but not loud). Because of its very quiet operation, this 7147 would be an excellent choice for a baby's or child's room. I did not mention in my original review that the humidifier flashes an icon when it needs cleaning, a nice convenience. I use the Air-O-Swiss EZ CAL Cleaner and Descaler A7417 for thorough cleanings, but I find a regular rinse & brushing under warm water minimizes the need for this.

Researching humidifiers on Amazon was a somewhat tiresome exercise. Almost all products I looked at are subject to very serious complaints, most importantly noise, leakage, and lack of reliability. I decided to go with the AOS 7147 because most reviewers agree that it is really quiet, and because I liked the clean look and the features.

Here is what I can report after about a week of usage (will update if anything changes over time):

Noise level: Both my wife and I are extremely noise sensitive, but this unit can operate in our bedroom without affecting our sleep. Yes, there is a bit of a humming noise, but it is barely audible. Also there is a bubbling noise once in a while when water flows out of the tank into the tray. All-in-all, it seems about as quiet as can reasonably be expected.

Effectiveness: We use the auto setting that lets the device decide the target level of humidity and the output level. This works very well and hassle free, keeping the room comfortably moist.

Warm mist setting: I would recommend having it. Without it the room feels cool and damp. Even with using it there is a bit of a cooling effect, but it is acceptable.

Filtering/water treatment: We did not see any white dust around the unit, which was a concern.

Reliability/ease of use: No problems so far, straight-forward to operate, everything works as intended. I will post updates, if something comes up.

Look: Matters more than you would think, because it is supposed to be three feet away from the ground and away from both heating and return vents. Inevitably it will end up in a rather visible place. This unit has a bit of a techy, but overall relatively neutral look, better than most.

In summary, I am very happy with this unit.

Update: some tips on reducing the humming noise. Put a tray underneath the unit, then a thick sponge pad or similar cushion underneath the tray. The cushion dramatically reduces the noise level. The tray is very important. We first put the sponge directly underneath the unit, and that totally screwed up its moisture reading. We could watch the moisture level reduce from 50 to 49 to 48... to 37 in a few minutes and the unit cranked out steam like crazy. It seems that the unit needs to be placed on a hard surface to read the moisture level properly. Once we put a tray underneath it, the reading works normal again.

Honest reviews on Air-O-Swiss AOS 7147 Ultrasonic Humidifier - Warm and Cool Mist

Love this product. Bought 2 of them for my kids rooms. I was tired of using the cheap humidifiers and the expensive filters that needed to be changed about every other week. The silver component in this humidifier is much better to have and I love the fact that is machine can do hot or cold mist and you can increase the humidity output. Very pleased with this product.

The AOS 7147 is the first ultrasonic humidifier model I've owned that didn't fail midway through the cold winter and early spring months. (Neither the SPT 4010 nor the Crane "teardrop" models has gone the distance.) The AOS 7147 lasted long enough for me to put it in storage for the summer and use again the following November.

It has a ton of settings and features that enable you to tailor it to your specific needs. And it's got enough capacity to completely humidify a one bedroom apartment. There's a tiny little bit of noise, but you have to be near it to hear it.

It does have a couple of annoying glitches though.

Perhaps it's because of the high iron content in my tap water, but those granules in the cartridge seem to fail after just one month's use or so, and need replacement. And the way they fail is annoying: The "empty" light comes on even though there's plenty of water in the tank, meaning that the granules are no longer allowing the water to soak through. If this happens while I'm asleep, I don't find that out till I wake up the following morning with a parched throat and stuffy nose, and find that the air has been dry as a bone all night. There ought to be an audible alarm for the "empty" condition. I suggest keeping a second cartridge prepared (soaked for 24 hours) and ready to go at the first sign of failing granules.

The humidistat should not be relied on for the first hour or two of operation. Perhaps because of moisture from refilling the tank, the humidity can read way too high when you start the humidifier. It can take quite a while for it to settle down to a correct reading. If you use the heater feature, that generates more moisture and it will take even longer for the humidistat to settle down. I own a separate hygrometer and I rely on that for setting humidity levels until the AOS's own humidity meter settles down.
