I bought this register-insert humidifier after three ionic, sonic, and otherwise high-tech humidifiers had failed in three years. This one snaps into the register space in place of the normal grate. A simple filter sits in a reservoir (nest to the air channel) and can be filled with water in winter, or left alone in summer. The amount of humidification was not as high as a programmable, humidistatic unit, (the humidity rose perhaps 10%) but it was enough to take the edge off the dryness in my upstairs office. I would fill it once a day when it was semi-cold (32 F) outside, and 2 or 3 times when it was 10 F. I think it holds about a pint at a time. I would recommend something more heavy duty for a bedroom in a cold, dry climate as this is. On the other hand, this is one unit that Will Not Break Ever, unless you stand over the register and jump on the (plastic) great, or set heavy items on it. Nor do you need to decalcify it, and you could buy just about any flat soft humidifier filter and but pieces from it. A kitchen sponge has worked too. Highly recommended for home office. Silent, too.

However, during cold periods where outside temps stayed below freezing, I had to refill these registers about 3 times a day. I don't know about you, but all of my floor registers are not easily accessible and running around the house 3 times daily to refill the registers can become burdensome. The bottom line is that they work and have saved me the expense of a whole-house humidifier. Be aware also that the wick filters are required for the registers to work correctly, and each filter works about 90 days.

And that's exactly when you need extra humidity the most. So the concept is sound. And it works efficiently too. My nose feels less dry and as other said, it cannot fail. It's a lil' labor intensive as you need to replenish it almost once every 2 days in my case. But somehow I just ordered another one of this while my fancy Air-O-Swiss is still collecting dust (& calcification). That tells you something, doesn't it? This is to Air-O-Swiss like the Aeropress is to an espresso machine. Also, humid air holds heat better which translates into energy saving by setting your thermostat lower during winter months. The difference is very obvious.

I use this in my son's room which is 10x10. It does add humidity to the room overnight. It's possible that it does restrict airflow from the vent, but it's minor. Plastic is very flexible if stepped upon. This is good because it sticks up higher than a traditional vent cover. It must be refilled daily or more. Much cheaper option that a traditional humidifier. I would only recommend for small rooms. It might not raise humidity in large rooms significantly. Very happy with purchase.

I have used this humidifier for about a month now. In the winter I tend to get very dry skin and nasal congestion, which usually turns into a full-blown cold, if I sleep in cool, dry winter air. My wife and I decided to try a humidifier to see if it would help. Here is my impression of the Air King so far:

Simple construction--nothing fancy here. The unit basically consists of a small electric water pump that pulls the water up into the unit and wets an evaporative pad. A fan then sucks air through the back of the humidifier, through the evaporative pad, and out the top to humidify the air. Nothing fancy, but the bottom line is that it works. One very nice feature is that the water pump pulls enough water to saturate the evaporative pad and the extra is recirculated through the unit, making it less likely for nasty stuff to build up in the tank.

The humidifier has 3 speed settings, with no auto-on/off capability. We always run it on the lowest setting, which is relatively quiet and does a decent job of humidifying the air. The two higher settings are louder and produce more moisture, but the lowest setting is fine for us (1100 sq. ft. apartment).

The low setting is fairly energy efficient for a humidifier. Because this is an evaporative humidifier, it uses much less energy than one that creates steam with a heating element. Basically, you're powering a small fan and a small electric water pump, which uses 22.7 watts on the lowest setting, according to the instruction manual (I have not tested that number). So if you're running the unit overnight on low, it uses about 1/3 the electricity of leaving a 60 watt light bulb on overnight.

The unit has a tank capacity of 1.75 gallons. On the highest setting, the users manual says it will put 3 gallons into the air over a 24-hour period. I have not run the humidifier much on the highest setting, but their 3 gallon claim seems about right. On the lowest setting, we usually refill the unit once in the morning and once before bed to make sure it doesn't run out of water.

We use filtered water (Brita) because it helps reduce mineral deposits and keeps the water smelling fresh. It also should reduce the number of times you have to replace the evaporative pad. After one month of operation, we have cleaned the evaporative pad twice by soaking it in a water/white vinegar solution, which has cleared off most of the mineral deposits. My guess from our experience is that with heavy use, an evaporative pad should be replaced roughly once every 45 days. The Air King evaporative pads are available for order on the internet for roughly $5-$8 a piece.

In summary:

A lot of information in this review, but that's because when I was looking for humidifiers I didn't think there was enough information available about these things to make an informed decision. Given that uncertainty, I didn't want to spend $200+ on something and not like it or have it break in the first month. So I looked for a reasonable, less expensive model and decided to give this one a shot. I don't regret my decision at all. This unit has exactly what I was looking for: low purchase price, low maintenance cost and effort, low energy use, quiet operation, good humidification for 1100 square feet, and so far, it hasn't broken. If you're looking for those things, this humidifier is a solid choice.

This is the best humidifier we've had since replacing a wornout Holmes that no longer is manufactured. It's very quiet on the lowest setting & not that much noisier on the two higher settings. Like the cascading waterfall sound effects, too.

I got this and the product itself works fine but what I didn't expect is that when you put it on carpet that the water tray will build condensation and soak into the carpet. I ended up having to dry my carpet for 4 days and the water leaked into the celing of my study downstairs. Just make sure when using this that you have it on a hard surface or put it in a leak proof tub.

I live inthe desert and have a hard time with the dry air. I had one of these, but broke the bowl so had to replace. Decided to get a replacement bowl AND another floor model because they are SO nice and make the air so pure --you can drop some aromatherapy oil in the water and the whole room fills with a great smell. Something nice to come home to. Also thought my electrical unit wasn't working and was so disappointed until I discovered that it is important to cover the upside down U shape piece on the electrical center pice with water or it won't begin to mist. I would prefer they find a way to turn off the lights so I could leave it on all night but during the evening, the lights are very nice with nice ambiance to them. The roses in the picture do not come with the unit so it can be masculine or feminine your preference how to "decorate it" if wanted. It is not a HIGH quality stand but certainly do-able and worth the price paid for THIS unit. You can spend more for a more stable base but just keep this one tucked where someone won't run into it and you should be fine.

I purchased this item thinking that it was like a mist lamp I had previously bought from another company. The mode switch had broken after 5 years (not a bad lifetime, I thought, for a mist lamp)Instead of just replacing the switch I bought this because I thought it was a deal...everything included and I erroneously thought that "multimode" meant that there was a switch and mode changer included...wrong! This lamp only offers on and off with unplugging, and the bowl is lighter glass and the color blue which I don't like. The lights do flash different colors but you can't change the mode or speed. Thankfully, I was able to use the white bowl from my old mist maker and just switch out the old lights for the new. It works, so I'm at least happy with that. Just don't think you are buying a lamp with an off and on switch or a mode switch that changes the speed and colors. On the upside, it shipped really fast and was in great condition when I received it.

This filter is the correct size, however the filter medium is different from the OEM filter medium. This filter, when wet & not dripping held 13.5 oz of water

The Lasko OEM filter held 16.25 oz of water when wet & not dripping.

I'm assuming the filter that holds the most water is going to put out more humid moisture into the air. I believe this filter will limit & or restrict the efficiency of the Lasko Model 1128

Advertising on the box proclaims this filter as 150% More Strength.....compared to what? What does "strength" have to do with filters?

These are generic filters, the dimensions of the filter are correct to fit into the holder but they are not as THICK. These filters do not seem to give up the water as easily as the original Lasko filter that came with my humidifier.

Stay away from these ones and buy only the original Lasko filters...

We were in the market for a humidifier for the winter months due to sore throats/dry throats at night. So we purchased this unit. I've read reviews on other products and most of them did not give a clear enough why it was either bad nor good. So we figured might as well give this product a whirl being the price was right and we could return it at the local Target store.

To our surprise this unit works as intended albeit the unusually loud fan (even on the lowest setting). But to us the white noise it generates is actually welcomed in our bedroom. It's not any louder than my custom gaming computer fans that i leave on running at night. This product is used in our room which measures 17ftx17ft. The air humidity at night is just right now. For the first time in the winter months me and the wifey got good sleep!! we both woke up with no sore throats or dry sinuses!

So in short review here are the PRO's and CON's

PRO's : Works as advertised. capable of humidifying a room of 17ft x 17ft with ease. Water tank holds a good amount of water. Run time on it is 16hrs filled. Easy to fill tank. Easy to clean. Comes with 2 extra filters.

CON's : Slightly loud fan (if you like white noise at night) then this would be a plus :) Would be nicer if it had one more lower level for the fan speed for the people that complain about the slight noise.

This product is worth the price! would recommend it to anyone looking into a Humidifier for a bedroom or a living room.

This humidifier is essentially 3 pieces: the reservoir, the actual "unit" with the fan, and the base. A paper filter sits inside the actual "unit" with the dial, and sucks up water from the base. The fan blows on the wet filter and voila: humidifier.

The fan itself is fairly noisy much like a desk fan. You have the option to select low or high on the fan, and select a month from another dial which is completely useless.

The worst part about this unit is the fact that the filter lasts for about a week before it starts reeking. It is like your kitchen sponge, the stagnant water in the unit and the wet filter is a breeding ground for bacteria. You get 2 filters, but you'll go through them very quickly.

I have not been able to find filters for my humidifier in the stores and found these and they are perfect. This is my second time ordering them. They last a long time. I have even washed them a few times and reused them. I would definitely recommend these filters. Make sure you check the model number on your humidifier and match it with the filter you need. Is it PERFECT? of course not, but is IS Darned Good. I gave a 4 ONLY because there were some minor things that could have made it better (Most of which you find on the more expensive units) which seems fair enough, you want more "Gizmo's" you pay for them. really I should change it to a 5. My experience has been just great.

NEGATIVE THINGS I HAVE READ HERE FROM OTHERS, That Just Don't Bear Out in First Hand Experience: (I almost didn't buy this unit because of all the nasty things people wrote)

Maybe the Biggest Gripe is "Oh My, It's Sooo LOUD"

I frankly have NO IDEA what these people are complaining about. It is Not Totally Silent (Was that expected?) but even just 4-5 feet away from the unit running Full Tilt, Max Everything I have ZERO PROBLEMS holding a normal conversation or watching TV. (Mine sits right Next to my TV and I have not adjusted the volume from what it was before I started using this unit) The "Noise" is NOT Linear in nature. The unit has 3 fan speeds; LOW lets make sound level =1; MED lets call sound level =2-2.5; and Yeah, HIGH/MAX is sound level =5 (as an example) There is a Significant difference between Med and High, BUT As I Said, NO Problems talking or hearing TV even on MAX. (for the record, I just moved here and had not had a humidifier previously, it wasn't necessary. So This winter season I was WAY LATE buying one and getting started. My house was down to just 15% and I had this unit running MAX Output for a Week as is slowly dragged the humidity levels up. So I am WELL Acquainted with the sound of this device (at it's worst). Just yesterday i got the house up to 47% and set the humidity dial on the unit to cycle on & off (more on this later). It has been described as Airplane taking off, Hurricane, etc.... Either the fan unit was not set back on the unit properly and it's vibrating (see "user error") or These people just got a Lemon ? (return it and get a new one) or they are just gripey people who needed SOMETHING Nasty to say, because this thing just IS NOT LOUD.

Next "Water spills all over the floor"

BUNK (period). I suppose if you are some sort of nut job who throws things around and slams things, etc. you MIGHT be able to make a wave or two in there, but the ONLY water I have seen has been the OCCASIONAL (not every time) drop or two, Never a "Puddle" (And I have ALL Hard Wood Floors, so this is a real issue for me) and the "Drops" came from the OUTside of the tanks as a by-product of filling them in my sink. I now keep a kitchen towel next to the area I fill the tanks and give them a quick wipe before walking back to the unit and NO MORE DROPS. *NOW* With All That Said Given that I DO have hard wood floors and a leak of any kind could be a "not good" thing for me I have taken the precaution of buying a plastic bin I am setting the device inside of. It is big enough that IF somehow the whole thing drained the full max water volume out, the bin can hold that and more. Just Good (and cheap) insurance. If you were wondering? One of My FAVORITE Complaints ?? "You have to Refill the water too much" or "It uses too much water"

REALLY ?? Just THINK about this one. You BUY a Humidifier to .... Put Water In Your Air --And You Complain about it Doing EXACTLY what you paid for ?? I mean, was the idea you buy a Big Unit to put LOTS of humidity in the air of a large house --and it runs off a thimble of water for 3 months ??? NO, You would only get a Thimble full of Humidity. I just find this complaint SILLY. It's Doing it's Job. On a more practical note, one I have personally been going thru. As discussed above, My house was down to about 15% humidity when I started this unit up. What is More Important was it is NOT JUST THE AIR that is dry. The Walls are dry, the floor, ceiling, furniture, EVERYTHING was Dry, so putting some moisture in the AIR, doesn't solve your problem, the house just sucks it up and your air is dry again, It Takes Quite a While to raise the humidity level of EVERYTHING in the house up before you can have the unit cycle on & off as it NOW just keeps the Air moist. (As I said About, Mine ran for about a full week 24/7 Full Max to bring the house up to a good level. NOW it is cycling on & off (as of last night) where a refill on those tanks will last longer and I wont be filling them twice a day every day (Yes, I know the math suggests I would have been filling 3 times a day, but it just didn't turn out that way. It was 2 or just slightly over 2, but I Never filled 3 times in 24 hours, Not from EMPTY TANKS each time at least. There were plenty of 1 Empty tank and the other 1/2, or 2/3rds empty refills. Now that rate has slowed WAY DOWN and I would expect to maybe fill just Once a day. Later on when the Weather gets less dry I can see this unit lasting Several Days on a single fill.

One lady said the tanks were too heavy. said that "A Gallon is too heavy", Well, 1they are 1.5 Gallons each; 2-a Gallon of water weighs 8 pounds and that is the weight of a new born baby -and babies don't have handles. OK, 1.5 gallons -so thats 12 pounds and we are talking about a 3-4 month old baby now, same thing. Women pick up 3-4 month old babies all the time and they don't come with handles, Plus they Wiggle. So, REALLY ?? Grocery sacks average more than 8-12 pounds unless you are buying nothing but rice cakes and bread. Again, the ENTIRE IDEA is to put water in the air, stop complaining that it's bad, because it does its job.

One "Semi-Ledgit" issue was the lack of Digital controls to dial in an exact humidity level.

TRUE, that is part of what I was talking about at the beginning about "Gizmo's" that were not on this unit, BUT ARE on the more expensive units. Do you Buy a Chevy and say the Chevy is JUNK, because it is Not a Rolls Royce ?? If you want a Rolls, go BUY one. This unit is a Chevy.

However; another complaint was that the lack of the digital controls didn't allow for setting a reliable humidity level. Again, BUNK. as I said yesterday my house got up to where it was comfortable and (as in the instructions) I turned the humidity dial down until the unit shut off. Then leave it and see what you have. (YES, you need to have a reliable temp/humidity gauge. They sell nice ones on here for like 7 or 8 bucks. This unit didn't claim to show you the humidity. You can do it by FEEL if you want, or buy the gauge and know. I was shooting for something between 45-50%. I saw 47 on my gauge and set the dial on the unit. In the last 24 hours EVERY TIME I have checked the gauge it is at either 47% or 48%, and I would call that VERY ACCURATE. I'm going to leave it where it is another week or so till we get another cold snap and see if it holds the level. Once I'm convinced it's right, its time for the Sharpie Pen and put a little Dot or Line on the dial so I can hit the same spot next year. (I't Not Rocket Science)

You can say you don't like the color, the wheels are funny, you don't like the shape, or just say it's Momma Wears Army Boots, if you feel like saying SOMETHING Nasty, but the Bottom Line is the unit is well priced given its market and features and it does its job very well.

IDEA'S?

I found one Great One; that was every time you fill the tanks and replace them, Pop the Top of this unit and flip the filter over. The top edge of the filter dries out as it works and if left that way will, in time, get crusty with stuff and no longer soak up water as effectively. (like if you tried to flip it over only ONCE in its life span, that second half isn't going to work as well) I have found that by doing this the filter stays moist and functional and just works better. (It takes an extra 20 seconds, and it's worth it)

I'm using the bacteriostatic stuff they show as a companion product. Since i have not run it without this stuff I really cant say if it does anything, but it is cheap ($4-$5) and you only use like 1/2 cap full in each tank when you fill the tanks, so it Lasts a long time. What I CAN SAY is I have not had ANY buildup of Funky Stuff in the tanks or reservoir of the unit, and as I said, with the flipping of the filter and this bacteriostatic stuff the filters are still soft and absorbent.

Hope this Helps, I had Concerns when i bought and ended up wishing someone had "Cleared the Air" for me, so I did it for you.

BTW, I have purchased a SECOND Unit and plan to put it in my Upstairs bedroom. (I have no "Noise" Fears) I have a small ultrasonic unit up there now that just isn't doing the job. by itself it could only raise the air from 15% to 20%. Once I got this big guy put to work downstairs I have seen the humidity slowly rise to between 30% 35% which isn't bad given it is only the moisture that manages to make it past the heater as it gets circulated upstairs.

First I went cheap and bought a small evaporative unit. The large filter was "permanent", but required occasional decaling and the small pump filter kept getting gummed up. I then purchased a warm mist unit, it worked at first and when required continuous use to barely maintain the proper humidity level. After got my electric bill, I stopped using it. Finally I purchased this unit. Works perfectly, keeps the house at the level I want (45%) and only automatically turn on when needed. The dual water tanks are also nice. I suggest you get a unit rated to at least double your home's square footage.

I really debated about giving this item three or four start. I decided on four because bottom line it does a good job getting moisture in the air and some design items work well. For instance, it is on wheels so it is easy to move and the water fill containers are manageable. They had the forsight to make two instead of one and the handles are comfortable.

Now for some negatives. At the highest setting, it is still pretty loud. I live in a condo so, if I'm watching TV I usually keep it on the second highest setting or wear headphones and keep it at the highest setting. Here is another noise issuewhen it starts getting empty, a loud humm starts up. Another thing I don't like is that you can't control or see what the humidity level isit just kicks out. I think this feature is available on a higher model but it seems like it should be available on this one for the price they are asking.

Probably the biggest issue I have with this unit is that it has a side discharge for air rather than through the top like most units. This is an issue for me because when I watch TV I usually sit on the floor (TV over a fireplace would never work for me) and this unit blows COLD AIR out and it is quite uncomfortable. You could make the argument to move it somewhere else, but for maximum benefit you should keep it where you spend most of your time.

So ther you have it. I probably should give it three stars but it does what its supposed to do wellwith some design issues.

I have used many different humidifiers over the years ranging from warm mist (higher electric bills, more difficult to clean and maintain), ultrasonic (I had a lot of white dust with these units), and cool mist (medium size units, which all broke over time). Most of them stated large or medium rooms, and would never really get the humidity level up quickly or maintain that level easily throughout the day. This one definitly has the output to do so and has been comparatively quiet compared to the ones i have used prior. The fan blower is actually not a regular fan with blades out (which was on my old model, and was very very loud on the highest output setting), this one is bearable and the fan is more of a wheel fan (i guess that is what they call it) with the blades internal (which makes it quieter and preferred for me). Anyway, the output is great on this if that is what you are looking for and this one actually shuts off when it hits the humidity you set (something my older ones never did, since it never output this much humidity they would always stay on).

The cons to this is the fill tanks, I believe someone else mentioned this as well. They are NOT shaped very well for ease of filling and transportation (and have sharp edges), so becareful when you do fill them cause they get slippery as well and can crack easily if dropped. Another one is the overall size (it is fairly large with wheels to help move around the house if needed), but the size helps this humidifier have one of the highest outputs as well for the price.

Also note, the air blows out cool (since the water is cool) and blow out the sides in almost a full 360 degress through the sides (more like 270 degrees around). so don't expect the air to blow through the top on this model (like my other units used to do).

Stock up on some wicks as well, not sure how long they will hold up (maybe 1 month each at constant use before needing replacement they say 2-3 months but i dont' believe them, since mold can grow on them if used too long), I bought 4 for this winter season.

I have been using this humidifier for about 4 weeks now & it does a great job. I live out in the desert and it is hot & dry resulting in dry sinuses for us & snarfing for our dogs. It has improved both conditions very well. I did buy a humidy indicator so I could keep an accurate reading of the levels in our house and adjust the output as I needed. I have noticed way less desert dust in the house with the "air washing" & I see it on the filter. I am not having to oil all of our rustic mexican wood furniture as often either. With the Pro Tech Cartridges I just rinse out the trough, no hard cleaning yet. With two tanks it is easy to fill and the just set nicely in my sink. If you turn the curved side towards your faucet they stand right up on the carry handles, no big deal. In a normal setting a 24 hour run time may be accurate. In the desert however, at 105+ degrees I fill both tanks 3 times for a 24 run. Once I got the humidity up in our home I now run 24 hrs on the lowest setting with a medium fan and it maintains us at a good humidity level. I find it quiet and much less obnoxious then a fan running. I really like this unit.
