We inherited an older "original size" model, which didn't really work for us because it was too wide (didn't fit well in the room, and newborn baby didn't like all of the extra space) and it couldn't be raised (the older models are incompatible with the leg extension kits). We bought this one to replace it, and couldn't be happier. It's a much more reasonable size for a newborn, and fits really well in the room.

We don't intend on taking it up and down a lot (to make the play yard), so I can't speak to the other reviewer's comments that it's a pain, but it was super easy to assemble in the first place, and seems very sturdy, even using the full set of leg extensions to get it to a reasonable height.

Also, it packs down to a really reasonable size, so we intend on taking it on flights to visit relatives because it isn't bulky at all. Much more compact than the "original size" model.

I bought this cosleeper for my 5week old son, it is a must have for a bf mamma with lo. Assembly was easy. It's a little hard to change the sheet (velcro) have to have my hubby do it for me. I have a taller bed and ordered the arms reach to Arm's Reach Co-Sleeper Bassinet Leg Extension Kit to raise up the cosleeper,. I'm using all then extensions that came in the kit. It's a little unsteady on the extensions (arms reach recommends that you tether it to the bed when using the extension kit) but its not

going to fall over, seems safe. The pad that comes w/the unit is similar to the bottom of a playpen. You will need an pad to go over it, i wouldn't put my LO to sleep on it. Don't waste your money on expensive mattresses or pads from Arms

Reach. I ordered the Snoozy Organic 2 PACK Flannel Cotton Anti Allergy Waterproof pads. They fit perfectly and my LO seems comfortable.

My wife & I chose this co-sleeper because we wanted something for our newborn to sleep in while he stayed in our bedroom the first few months. Our baby isn't here yet, but just from putting this together (which can be a little frustrating with all the Velcro straps sticking to everything...hence, why I rated 4 stars), we both already really like it. The structure is pretty solid for a mostly plastic piece of furniture, and with the plush fitted sheet we bought to go along with the mattress, it seems very comfy for our boy. All this is wishful thinking for now, haha, but we are pleased with the purchase, nonetheless.

This thing is frustrating to put together. The instructions instruct the user to install everything, including the Velcro-intensive liner (which has to be done with care to avoid loose fabric in the sleeping area) and then instructs the user to pull the whole thing apart to Velcro-install the mattress. I selected this product in large part because of the convertible aspect. Because the process is so cumbersome, this product is not convertible for everyday purposes. I wish I had made a different bassinet choice.

I'm new to the world of cigars and bought this as a gift for a friend. As part of that gift I wanted to have him open it stocked and ready to use. Well, that ain't happening. The seal of a humidor is the be all, end all test of quality. This box is not quality.

On first checking the product after arrival I noticed the lid was very easy to close. There was no resistance at all. That should've tipped me off to return it, but again, I'm not familiar with this stuff and figured the seasoning process would fix that issue.I had ordered a Boveda seasoning pack along with the box since that seemed to be the easy, no hassle way to get things done. I followed the instructions on the pack, opened it and left it inside the humidor for 2 weeks. Once the time was up I lifted the lid to no resistance and a dried up Boveda. All the videos and tutorials I checked said this was set and forget. I suppose the gap was too large and led to all the moisture being sapped out of the seasoning pack.

So I decided to try the old school method of distilled water and a sponge. This too has ended in failure. During the first phase everything seems to be going well. The wood around the lid swells up and will get a very tight seal. After only a few hours, even with the sponge set inside (on a plastic bag after wiping down the interior) to allow additional moisture to be soaked up, the wood dries back out and loses whatever light seal was there. I can see large gaps where the insert corners meet. The inserts themselves are also somewhat loose. They aren't going to fall out, but you can push on the center and it will bow out. This adds to the poor seal.

I've tried the distilled water/sponge method twice. At this point it seems to be a lost cause. I was only able to get around to doing this recently and the return window has long since expired. I may try some hack-ery to get humidor up to par, but as it stands, it's been a very disappointing purchase. I also can't speak to the "travel" part of the humidor. If you're going to travel with something spend the extra money and purchase one of the plastic cigar caddies. They offer way more protection and are easier to work with.

I will mention one positive about "Quality" Importers travel humidor product: the exterior looks nice. If you don't need to store cigars but want a nice looking storage box for keys or jewelry it's not too bad. Those expecting a kit that will protect your rH sensitive smokes need to look elsewhere. As the adage goes, you get what you pay for.

I've bought many items from Amazon, but this the first time I felt compelled to write a review for a purchased item because of lack of information on this humidor. I've already have a desktop humidor box and a traveling humidor can. Unfortunately, the humidor can won't fit the 8" cigar I usually smoke. So I was hoping this would fit the need. I was considering the capri-glas top humidor, but the height of that box was 1" higher than my liking. Plus, I am going to take it with me on traveling, so the box will most likely be in places where it might be under the sun (i.e. car). Then I saw the Rivera model and thought it be the better option for me. Unfortunately, there was no description of its dimension! Uh, that's kind of important, isn't it? Especially, if it's a travel humidor. So, I ponder it for a couple of days. Looking at its photo over and over again. I finally decided to go ahead with the purchase base on the photo comparison between Rivera and Capri-glass top. I figure if nothing else, the Rivera model should be shorter in term of height.

The item arrived two days before its scheduled delivery. So that was good. I opened up the box and everything was included per item description; the humidifier, the hygrometer, the engraving plate. It didn't came with instruction for how to calibrate the hygrometer or how to season the humidor. That might be a bit of an annoyance for a first timer. But it's nothing a little search on the internet wouldn't solve. Anyway, the first thing I did was take out my ruler and measure the interior dimension. To my chagrin, the interior measured 9.5"x7.75"x1.5" (exterior is 10.5"x8.75"x2.75"). It will fit my 8" Cubano only in horizontal position, leaving about 1.5" of empty space...

I then start the task of calibrating the hygrometer and seasoning the box. Put the meter in a zip lock bag along with a teaspoon of damp salt in it. Woke up the next morning, check on the reading, the meter reads 60. Um, okay, maybe it just need a little more time. So I left it in the bag and went to work. When I came back from work, the reading still indicate 60. I thought to myself, "WTF! This thing is off by +15!?" I decided to take the meter out of the bag anyway and went ahead with the seasoning process. I figured if it really is off by how much I think it is, then the reading should be 55 by the time seasoning is done. Sure enough, 8 hours later, the meter reads 55.

Basically, it's an exquisite humidor (for its price) with a really crappy hydrometer! As of now, I am still testing the meter's reading to see if the +15 margin is really accurate. If it is, then I'll probably keep this crappy hygrometer and just live with the error. Otherwise, I might have to invest in another hygrometer... Lastly, I think all humidor should at the very least, list its interior dimension so people can decide if it's the right size for their purpose or not.

The humidor is real pretty, packed well. There are no instructions for a first timer on how to season. The humidifier has no instructions either, and the peel off sticky pad had no stick, I had to use rubber cement to attach it to the box, which I hope doesn't affect the smell and taste of the el-cheapo brands I can afford. But, it is a pretty box. As for instructions thank Al Gore for the internet! ehow.com has instructions for both seasoning and using the humidifier.

Update day 3: The rubber cement is not going to hold the humidifier's metal mount in place.

(This review is posted for both the Aprilaire 600M and 600A units in order to contrast them and to describe their similar functions.)

The Aprilaire folks say the "important considerations in the evaluation of a humidifier are precise control, sufficient capacity, trouble-free performance and minimum maintenance." I would add cost, ease of operation, and ease of installation. My sense is that this unit gets high marks in all of these areas.

The Aprilaire 600 humidifier operates in conjunction with your heating system to add moisture to your air. It is called a bypass humidifier because some air leaving your furnace is rerouted to bypass your ventilation system and instead run through the humidifier, absorbing moisture through evaporation, before returning to your furnace and on into your home. (The bypass is accomplished as a function of the higher air pressure in the supply leaving your furnace than in the return air going into your furnace.)

Generally, a hole is cut into your supply plenum (through which heated air leaves your furnace and goes into your home) and a bypass duct is run into the humidifier, which is mounted on the return plenum (which feeds air from your home into the furnace). Within the humidifier is a pad, which holds water like a sponge. As the heated air from the supply is bypassed through the humidifier, it picks up evaporated moisture and is run back into the furnace for distribution into your home.

A hygrostat (humidifier control – set manually on the 600M and automatically on the 600A) monitors the humidity in the air and controls a valve to release (or shut off) water running through the humidifier. It is generally mounted on the return plenum from which it measures the relative humidity (RH) in your air.

Water running through is a key point here, since when the valve is open, water not only soaks the evaporating pad, but excess water runs through a hose into your drain. I don't know how much water is simply – literally – poured down the drain, but it doesn't feel good to watch it go. This leads to your first decision – hooking your humidifier to the hot water or the cold water supply. The hot water humidifies your house more quickly, as it is easier to evaporate, but of course the waste is much more expensive (and it's not good for the environment to heat water only to run it down the drain).

When the hygrostat determines it is time to run the humidifier, it generally waits for the furnace to come on and send it a signal from the control board (in most modern units). However, you can also install the humidifier to run when the fan is on without the heat (you'll need to use the hot water for this). Finally, you can install it so the hygrostat signals the fan to run so that it can humidify your dry house automatically.

Automatic v. manual control?

It is highly recommended by the manufacturer to keep the humidity low enough in your house to prevent moisture from condensing (or frosting) on your windows, which could cause rot and mildew. The condensation point is a function of the humidity in your house and the temperature of the inside surface of your windows. This is a function of the thickness of your window glass and the temperature outside.

The automatic hygrostat (600A) measures the temperature outside your home to drop the humidity when the temperature falls. However, it takes up to three days to make a significant change in your home's humidity, and the hygrostat can't know what the temperature is going to be over the next three days. The automatic control of the 600A is a bit more expensive, is harder to install, offers more possibilities for malfunctions, and doesn't fully do what you want it to know the temperature in the future. Still, you'd have to have more discipline than I have to keep up with the weather forecast and run to the basement every day to manually adjust the unit. Although I chose the manual version based on the recommendations of two plumbers – one on YouTube and the one who installed my unit – I believe I would now select the automatic one.

Installation was done quickly by a professional for $240 plus $30 in supplies. I was quoted prices up to $500, so be sure to shop around. The work is simple, if you know how to do it, and most plumbers have installed many of these.

The maintenance seems simple – replace the pad annually (about $15), shut off the air bypass valve and the water valve in the spring. I suppose you should also check the water flow through the little orifices and stuff, but I imagine I'll forget that until the system doesn't seem to work properly.

I installed the 600M to replace a 400M hooked into my Harman PF 100 pellet furnace. The 400M just didn't put out enough humidity. Installing the 600M was very straight forward. The wiring was easy and the humidifier starts running with the blower on the furnace. There is so much more water being pumpled into the system now and the humidity levels are much easier to adjust. This is just the manual version, which is what I needed for my pellet furnace.

Price for the unit was amazing and shipping was very quick.

I installed this myself over this past winter and had no issues. My Ecobee thermostat has built-in humidifier support so I hooked that up instead of using the included manual control. Also based upon the other reviews, I chose not to use the included saddle valve and instead soldered a tee onto the hot water line. One thing that I do want to point out that wasn't immediately clear to me before buying is that if you need to install the unit with the pipe existing out the right side instead of the left side as is shown in the picture, the whole unit is fully reversible and even the Aprilaire logo can be flipped around so that it is right-side-up.

So after figuring out just how much (distilled) water the beads need My coolidor sits at a steady 69-72 RH, which is perfect. Since purchasing these beads I've seen tons of other beads via Amazon, ebay and random websites. The price per ounce/pound varies and it's very confusing. Luckily you don't need an abundance of beads to get the job done, even in a large coolidor/humidor.

I've owned this humidifier for over a year now and I am in the process of looking for it on sale to replace all my other ones in the home. It's filterless so I haven't had to worry about moldy smells or finding a filter in the middle of winter at ridiculous prices. Anywho, this one is in my kids' room and I keep it at a low setting and it gives off this soft hum that actually drowns out other home noises. I fill it up every third day and I haven't had problems with water spilling or any other malfunction (like I've read in other reviews). Once a month I clean the base with a clorox wipe and I'm set. I bought this unit for use last winter. It performed well for the season, but the o-ring degraded over time. I also noticed the plastic near the spout was also beginning to break down and the two sections making up that area were starting to pull apart. I contacted Holmes to get a new o-ring. They told me 1) they were on backorder, 2) they had LOTS of orders for these, 3) I could not buy just the o-ring, would have to buy the "cap assembly" (mind you, the o-ring fits in to the tank, NOT the cap) and 4) they would put my name on a list to be notified when the parts were available. So, now winter is approaching and I call again and am informed that they are no longer making this o-ring (also, keep in mind this is a unique o-ring...nothing you could buy in catalogs or HI stores). I will not buy another Holmes product if I can help it. I am shocked to see they are still selling it despite not having parts for customers who will eventually need them.

I already have a Vornado humidifier, but bought this one because I was tired of buying and storing replacement filters. This humidifier is extremely quiet. If you listen carefully, you may hear a slight trickle as the tank drains, but the blower is inaudible. The tank is very capacious. I run it on high all day and night and only refill it twice a day. I've been very happy. It only gets four stars, though, because it's a bit underpowered. The vaporizer is capable of producing a lot of steam, but the blower can't push it far enough into the air. If you run the unit on the highest setting, you must place it on a raised, waterproof platform so that the water doesn't settle to the ground. If Holmes had included a more powerful fan, it wouldn't be a problem. For now, I have a fan pointed at it to mix the steam with the air.

I live in a very small town. We have one variety store from which to buy things like this, and the only humidifiers they carry are Holmes. Over the past couple of years, I've bought several of these--not because I have a lot of rooms to humidify but because their products are so disposable. Either the motors go out or the 0-rings break or they spring leaks in the base. When I have had occasion to contact customer support to try to obtain a new o-ring or lid, I've been told twice that this model has been discontinued (when in fact, year after year, this piece of junk continues to appear on shelves and websites).

No more Holmes products for me and I'd recommend that you steer clear as well. This is a lousy product from an apathetic company.

I bought a Holmes HM 495 humidifier on Dec 8, 2007. In Jan, 2010 I decided to begin using it for the dry winter season. The rubber gasket that that prevents water from flowing from the tank above into the reservoir below had dried up and crumbled away. I e-mailed Holmes Service twice describing the issue, but never received a reply. I finally called the Service department to learn that they no longer make this rubber gasket. Thus the humidifier is useless, and must be disposed of.

Because the humidifier is 2 years and 1 month old, Holmes would not stand by their 2 year warranty. There was no attempt on their part to recognize that the unit had only been used for 2 seasons.

I recommend that readers never buy a Holmes.

I love it. Holds at least 10 cigars, very well built. The snaps are well made, when its closed it won't open even if you throw it. Keeps cigars in perfect condition. Humidifier is small, but thats expected.

I took this with me on vacation. Loaded with 10 cigars, closed and threw in the baggage. When I got to my destination and tried to open it was almost impossible, I couldn't do it with my bare hands. Latches opened fine, but the box itself was sealed tight. This is because the air pressure in the cargo compartment on the plane had changed. This is of course a good thing. It speaks volumes because it means that the air inside the travel humidor stayed the way it should. I got it open with a key, the corners have tabs for this purpose, and it wasn't a problem at all. When I did open it, it kind of popped. If anything I was completely happy because it proves that this thing was working as designed, to be airtight.

We were in the market for a humidifier for the winter months due to sore throats/dry throats at night. So we purchased this unit. I've read reviews on other products and most of them did not give a clear enough why it was either bad nor good. So we figured might as well give this product a whirl being the price was right and we could return it at the local Target store.

To our surprise this unit works as intended albeit the unusually loud fan (even on the lowest setting). But to us the white noise it generates is actually welcomed in our bedroom. It's not any louder than my custom gaming computer fans that i leave on running at night. This product is used in our room which measures 17ftx17ft. The air humidity at night is just right now. For the first time in the winter months me and the wifey got good sleep!! we both woke up with no sore throats or dry sinuses!

So in short review here are the PRO's and CON's

PRO's : Works as advertised. capable of humidifying a room of 17ft x 17ft with ease. Water tank holds a good amount of water. Run time on it is 16hrs filled. Easy to fill tank. Easy to clean. Comes with 2 extra filters.

CON's : Slightly loud fan (if you like white noise at night) then this would be a plus :) Would be nicer if it had one more lower level for the fan speed for the people that complain about the slight noise.

This product is worth the price! would recommend it to anyone looking into a Humidifier for a bedroom or a living room.

This humidifier is essentially 3 pieces: the reservoir, the actual "unit" with the fan, and the base. A paper filter sits inside the actual "unit" with the dial, and sucks up water from the base. The fan blows on the wet filter and voila: humidifier.

The fan itself is fairly noisy much like a desk fan. You have the option to select low or high on the fan, and select a month from another dial which is completely useless.

The worst part about this unit is the fact that the filter lasts for about a week before it starts reeking. It is like your kitchen sponge, the stagnant water in the unit and the wet filter is a breeding ground for bacteria. You get 2 filters, but you'll go through them very quickly.

I've had this humidifier for about 3 months now, and have been pleased! It does moisturize, but it seem so go through filters awfully fast (about 20 days or so, I think the box says...) I have been using the Filtrete Room Air Conditioner filters for three years and these are great. I cut the filters to fit with the inner AC filter-screen. Tape down and that is it. The amount of dust, dirt and pollution it collects so that it is not re-circulated inside is amazing. I had always suspected that there was dust and pollution circulating, but I had no idea. I could actually feel a difference. Now, I change them out every summer although the instructions say every two months. This is a must have so I stock up on them to save on shipping. I think the Filtera web-site is slightly cheaper if you buy in bulk and it has a $1 shipping promiotion on orders. Highly encourage you to buy once you see how much dirt it collects and how much cleaner your air-conditioned air is after a summer.

I knew the screen filter on my window unit was not adequate filteration for dust, etc so I decided to give Filtrete Room Filter a try. It works great! I've noticed a difference in the dust in the house. (No central air.) It has been three weeks and the filter looks pretty gross so I guess I'll be changing it fairly frequent. Also, I was able to cut one filter to fit two units: 5K BTU + 12K BTU.

I owns 3 Sharp Plasma cluster air purifiers. These purifiers have leaky HEPA filters reducing the air filtration efficiency. To increase the filtration, I used a piece of the 3M filter and wrapped around the original HEPA filter. It increases the lifespan of the more expensive HEPA while improves filtration capabilities. Excellent product!

I have fairly bad respiratory problems as well as allergies and bought this product for the first time about a year ago hoping it could possibly help alleviate some of my symptoms . I figured for the price they were asking it was at least worth a try.

My in window air conditioner has one of those washable filters with pores so big it speculate it could only be filtering out the largest particles. I cut the 3M filter to the size needed and taped it onto the inside of the air conditioners normal filter (so the air first passes thrugh the washable filter and the through the 3M filter).

I'm not going to make any outragous claims that somehow my allegies or breathing problems are now cured, but after about two months the 3m filter is just filthy: while it was once white it is now a very dark grey. Common sense tells me that this filter must be picking up alot of things my normal air conditioners filter is missing.

I would have to recommend this filter to anyone. I may be wrong, but again, I just have to assume from what I see that the massive amout of dirt the filter picks up is something that otherwise woud have ended up in my lungs. Overall a great product.

I needed a humidifier for the room where i keep my guitars .. I have fount this unit very efficient. It shuts itself off when it measures "enough' humidity which you can choose. This is very important in a house with electric heat. I have fumbled with the fill cap, but I do not find it cumbersome. And I use a pitcher to fill it so I am not trying to figure out if i have to bring it to the kitchen to fill or use the bathtub. Therefore, I have found it convenient and easy to use, and I would recommend it to a friend.

Needing a germ free humidifier this was highly recommended by one review with many stars. However, lo and behold, this humidifier is poorly made. The threads for replacing the cap are difficult to screw on because of the shoddiness of the manufacture. Its takes several attempts to get the cap screwed on. Several times, believing all was well, the cap gave wayi pouring water over the furniture. For the humidifier at this price, I would hope more precision could have been used.

I received the unit yesterday and immediately filled to test the unit overnight. Overall I would have to say that I will have to continue searching for my dream machine. Because of the lack of significant steam I slept uncomfortably having to lay relatively close to the unit to feel it, and still woke up with puffy eyes. Some vapor is better than none at all!!

I have purchased numerous humidifiers over the years finding them to provide great relief for sinus sufferers when dry air / dry heat is problematic. I just pulled out an old Holmes HM-5700 unit out of the closet which required Bacteriostat be added to the water (still have several bottles) and found it to have a sticky substance all through out it and it fits perfectly in the box I just received the Brookstone unit to put in the dumpster. The Holmes unit produced a fair amount of steam, but required a lot of work to keep the unit clean.

I read numerous reviews looking for a unit that did not require a lot of maintenance keeping the heating coil free from built up residue and would deliver a significant amount of steam to my liking. My observations of this unit:

PROS

1) Love the design of the unit

2) Features simple to use

3) Used tap water but will be looking to purchase distilled water

4) Unit is ultra quiet

5) Has a medicine cup

6) UV 3.5W replacement bulb for sanitzing unit

7) Runs up to 3 nights or 24 hours per filling

CONS

1) Expensive in comparison to similar units with a $129.99 price tag

2) Blue light is very bright

3) Steam is more of a vapor and not a significant amount to my liking, woke up with eyes puffy

4) Mineral absorption pads EMP-17P recommended for mineral buildup but not required (highly recommend)

5) To clean the unit it recommends 1 cup of white vinegar be added to the reservoir and allowed to soak for 20-30 minutes

5) To disinfect the water tank it recommends a teaspoon of bleach be allowed to sit for 20 minutes.

Well, this is better than the Kaz product I bought at local drugstore, but it is noisy, the night light is so bright I have to cover it up with makeshift cardboard, it does not disperse the humidity all that well, it needs cleaning very frequently.
