Yes, it fits my 5550 model vacuum cleaner, but I have to give some force to push it in in order to lock it. Also the quality is not as good as the filter came with the vacuum cleaner. The original fits well and outter body had extra fiber-glass like liner, but not this one, it just plain paper. The original filter lasted me 5 years, I don't think this one will last.

This filter was not available locally and I found it on Amazon. The filter I received fits perfectly inside the cannister as expected. There are three plastic tangs that hold this filter into the cannister. The original filter failed as two of the tangs broke off. So, on this new filter, I remove it to clean it and reinstall it very carefully.

I find that replacing these dust cup filters periodically is indispensable for keeping bagless vacuum cleaners running for a very long time. I change this filter once a year on my nine-year old Eureka 5550A Maxima Upright Bagless Vacuum and it is still hamming away happily.

While it is possible to clean these filters (they are supposed to be washable), over time they get so packed with fine dust that you need to replace them. Good thing these are relatively cheap. However, they are not readily available at local stores, considering they are for models of vacuum cleaners that are pretty old and out of production. So, for many of us, Amazon is the only place to get these for a good price.

About how these filters are named: GE 61770, DCF-4, and DCF-18 are the same thing, as far as I can tell. Whatever you can find the cheapest on Amazon, just get that one. I usually put the model of my vacuum in search "5550A" and I get plenty of options.

I laugh when I read reviews stating that a particular hygrometer is "accurate" or "not accurate." I know these reviewers can not really tell one way or the other. Even laboratory calibrators have problems with determining accuracy. But here I'm going to call the Caliber III reasonably "accurate" and explain why. I do critical environmental surveys as part of my professional work and use a variety of expensive analog and digital instruments, thermometer wet/dry bulb psychrometers, multi-hair recording hygrothermographs, some instruments with NIST certification (but not mirror instruments). I've bought several "cheap" analog and digital hygrometers costing under $150.00 (including the Caliber III) to play with and check for suitable monitoring use by my daughters who humidify and dehumidify their living and storage spaces for violins and violas. I give this little instrument 5 stars for being reasonably "accurate" for its low price and small size certainly accurate enough for musical instrument storage, cigar humidors, and the most simple basic room environmental monitoring. However, don't expect that "accurate" means what the instrument displays is what the environment really is. And do not expect these inexpensive instruments to all read the same when placed side-by-side. And do not trust bag/salts solution verification or for "calibration." Even laboratory closed environmental chambers used for calibration purposes are difficult to manage. All the inexpensive instruments I purchased and all my costly professional instruments costing into the thousands do not give exactly the same readings when placed together in my laboratory controlled climate chamber. Do not expect a lot of precision in humidity measurement for a number of factors too complicated to go into here but related to airborne particles and various gaseous molecules in the air. RH is notoriously difficult to pinpoint with accuracy and a lot of work has gone into trying for critical industrial operations. For most instruments costing under around $150.00 that are displaying, let's say, 50% RH, just believe the actual RH is anywhere in the range 46-54% at best. Accept that limitation. Its hard to do, though, when you see that single digital number displayed. But you need to think in ranges only. And just like the mechanical/analog instruments, even the better ones with multiple strands of human hair, the potential range of digital instrument reading variations from actual RH will widen as your environment comes to either extreme from 50% RH, though not as much with digital as with mechanical/analog. This is important for the cigar keepers. If your better low cost digital unit is reading 65% RH, it really can be within the range of 50-75% RH but there is the "probability" (and that's all you can count on) that it is around 55-65% RH, and not likely 70% RH due to the upper end resistance to accurate measurements of all instruments. Forget using mechanical/analog "dial" instruments for humidors. The only ones reasonably accurate would not fit in most humidors. Using these at the extreme of 65% RH, if that is your target, is asking too much of them as the further from 50% RH the environment, the more resistant these are to reading the actual. However, for larger humidor cases, I have found the Oakton 357 to be good enough (I have three)and can give you some confidence that if its displaying 65% RH, its probably 60-70 RH. For instruments up to $1,000, a 50% RH reading probably represents actual RH of 48-52% RH. Do not expect more. One other thing you must know about digital hygrometers, and this is critical to recognize, they are fast(the more you pay for the sensor within it, the faster its response) and they quickly read their local environments which includes your body heat, skin moisture, breath moisture, and varying temperature and humidity in local air currents you may not even feel. You are a walking warm cloud. Certainly don't hold one and expect it to match another instrument sitting next to it on a shelf! The heat of your hand warms the plastic case raising the temperature reading and thus also drastically affecting RH. Don't even stand within three feet of a sensitive and fast digital instrument and expect it to match the display of one four feet from you. Also, this digital instrument and others like it will detect and display numbers representing something close to the real differences in the environment that can exist just inches apart. That's why two of the same instruments next to each other may not match its not bad quality but high sensitivity. This speed and accuracy of even inexpensive hygrometers is probably the sole cause of people complaining about "inaccuracy" of digital hygrometers and the frustration they experience. The differences they observe in the readings can be really due to accurate sensitivities. Though digital relative humidity monitors tend to be fast, and the more you pay the faster they are, for many purposes the less fast the better because their relative slowness tends to eliminate the small local differences in environments that make people think their instruments are going "haywire." For more information related to how difficult it is to really get accurate RH readings and difficulty in calibration, you must read "The Trouble with Humidity" under the tab "Publications" on the Veriteq.com website. If you want just "a little more accuracy", you can get "a little more accuracy" by paying a few extra hundred dollars, like over $500 for a Vaisala HM34. For the price, and considering how nearly impossible it is to get a true measurement of RH, maybe its good enough for you just to know, for example, "well, the RH is likely to be somewhere between 45 and 55 according to this instrument because its displaying 50."

I bought this hygrometer after a lot of research. I use it to monitor the humidity level in my acoustic guitar cases. The hygrometer is compact (fits nicely in guitar cases), is easy to read, and has the nice feature of a record of highs and lows. It is very responsive, in fact I bought two (two guitars!) and tested them side by side, and they basically changed simultaneously. If you pick it up, within seconds the recorded humidity level changes just from the moisture of your hand! It has the industry reputation for being the most accurate hygrometer, and my experience bears that reputation out. I highly recommend this hygrometer for acoustic guitar owners, though for whatever reason it is typically just listed for cigar humidors guitar makers, dealers, and players should all take notice.

I must be the unlucky one. I was convinced that this hygrometer would be accurate as all the reviews say. Unfortunately I must have got the few that passed QA. I purchased the One Step EZ Hygrometer Calibrating Kit from a local cigar store and after following the directions to the T, my hygrometer was reading +4%. I thought it had to do w/ how the room temperature was affecting the reading. So I conducting two other tests where the room temp was at 80 degrees and one at 65 degrees. Still it read 79% humidity for both tests when the Calibration kit says it should be reading 75%.

Long story short which every hygrometer you purchase I would recommend purchasing a calibration kit and just put a sticky note on your hygrometer w/ the +/of how much it's off to remind you of the true reading.

Simple but does the job. I got one of the calibration kits where you put the hygrometer in a bag which creates a certain humidity that you can compare to the reading on the hygrometer. The hygrometer seemed to be right on. I like that it saves high and low temperature and humidity.

Cheap CigarExtras Crystal Clear Gel Humidifiers for Cigar Humidors

I have 2 of the round humifier items but I am only currently using 1 in my humidor. The humidifier arrived with the crystals dry and ready to be moistened. The package contained instructions to fill the puck with a recommended PG solution or just plain distilled water. I used pure distilled water and let the crystals absorb. Minutes later it was ready to be used in my humidor. I use a calibrated Madelaine Hygrometer/Thermometer that is accurately calibrated and the humidifier brought my humidor to the mid 70% RH range. I opened the humidor to let it air out for a little while and now it is maintaining 69-71% RH. I would suggest letting the crystals absorb the PG/Distilled water then let it relax out in the open a bit, then place it in the humidor. I bought the 100 cigar humidifier for my upgrade humidor that I plan to purchase in the near future. I just hope that I have as good luck with that as I did the 50.

These are a GREAT idea improperly manufactured. Out of the box each one I purchased exploded inside the humidor leaving the damp little sponge like crystals all over the top level of my cigars soaking and staining them horribly. However there is a way to make these work.

These little boxes are filled with little sponge like crystals which are small and hard when dry, but when you soak them in solution or distilled water for 10 15 minutes they increase in size as they soak up the fluid. then as they evaporate over time providing humidity to your cigars they shrink again and so on and so on. The problem is that the manufacturer overfilled all of these. If you soak them for a few minutes, they will entirely fill all the open space in the housing. They continue growing slightly more over the next few hours. If they put too many of these crystals in one of these containers they will grow to the point where they pop off the slotted lid and all of mine did scattering these hundreds of little wet crystals all over my cigars.

Here is the solution, but do it BEFORE ever putting them in your humidor.

1. Use a thin knife to remove the slotted lid. Around the edge you will find a thin groove which is slightly wider is spots. Firmly hold down the cup on a table so it doesn't move and very carefully pop off the lid by inserting the knife point into the wider gaps and prying slightly until the lid lifts. Inside are what looks like not enough crystals. Be patient.

2. Fill the cup with it's crystals to the very top with distilled water and let it sit for an hour to allow all the crystals to grow to their maximum size. Fill it with more water as necessary to make sure the crystals grow to their maximum size.

3. You will likely see that the wet and enlarged crystals now protrude above the edge of the cup like container. That means they would have eventually popped off the lid. Take a gently curved straight edge like a butter knife and scrape off the excess crystals into a bowl so that the level of crystals that are left is all slightly below the edge of the cup. You now have the humidfier filled to the proper level.

4. Carefully replace the lid. You will notice that around the flat lid with the slots there are very slight ridges in places on the edge. You will also notice that around the inside of the cup there are matching slight indentations. You have to line these up and firmly press the edges down working around the outside until all of the lid is down flush with the edge of the cup. This is what the factory should have done but didn't.

Now use your humidifiers per instructions and you will find that they work great!

I needed this gel humidifier because I have dry heat in my home so during the winter months, nothing else would keep my humidor above 70%. Be sure and fill with distilled water to starting with 50% full to expand the crystals. Wait about 15 minutes and the crystals will expand to the size of the rectangle container. When you refill, never go over 75% water level or the crystals will pop the cover off, which is what happened to another reviewer. It's never happened to me because I never fill it up past 75% full and this humidifier keeps this humidor (highly recommended) at 72-78% humidity for a month without looking at it, when full of cigars.

I also recommend this electronic hygrometer, which you can stick to the end of the humidifier, facing the glass top of the humidor for quick readings without opening the box. It's extremely accurate after calibration and the battery lasts forever. The glass analog hygrometer that comes with these and many other humidors are more ornamental than accurate.

I have a W12 Bionaire Humidifier that requires TWO of these filter packs. Check your humidifier carefully before you order, I thought I was ordering a spare filter, but in fact required two quantity of this product. The part ordered here is for one single filter (there are two filter elements per pack).

The filters fit perfectly. They are exactly what are required, for about a month worth of humidification air filtration. If you are a little bit handy, there is an infinitely less expensive solution to this, well, I hate to say it, but, highway robbery. Purchase a standard furnace filter, 3M Filterette is a really great choice. The plastic frame of these filters pop apart fairly easily (there are a series of tabs you pry apart). Cut down the furnace filter, and place it inside the plastic frame. Be extremely careful with the sharp ends of the wire mesh on the filter.

Adding things up, four pairs of these filters per humidification season plus a wick, and this humidifier is a very expensive unit to run.

I used to get these filters at Sears and they cost quite a bit more there. These filters are not so easy to find either. I have been buying these here at Amazon for a couple of years now, they are always delivered promtly and I get just what I ordered. It's a filter, it does what it does ... what more can I say ...lol One thing I liked this year was I could get more and the shipping was the same, last year I bought two and had to pay shipping twice, this year I bought three. I usually have to change them a couple of times a year, the unit works better. You can tell by the running time that it's getting plugged up. I bought this because it was one of the cheaper humidifiers that I saw and was recommended by a friend. You can choose 4 levels of mist and I turned it to the highest right away. It was a bit slow to start, the mist was small on the highest setting but after running it overnight, I woke up to a nice strong mist in the morning. We use it in our bedroom which is a medium size and it does the job perfectly. I've been using it for a week now and wake up without dry skin and throat. I love that it oscillates and also the pleasing design. It's also whisper quiet and you can turn the blue glow and oscillation on or off. Highly recommended.

Bad: Unit is a bit noisy and I find the motor droning to be more than white noise. Also, when it is set to oscillate there is sometimes a clunking noise as the head rotates.

I read the reviews, and I bought 2 of them anyway last year (love the appearance and tank capacity). After last winter, I emptied and stored one unit dry. The other unit I let sit full of water all summer, never used. I thought it would mold, but it didn't. Last week I tried to get them going again. The one I had emptied will not work at all! The other one works ok, but has developed a strange noise during oscillation. Given the countless bad reviews on this product, I'm surprised these are still for sale!

*** UPDATE: I took the functioning and non-functioning units apart to try to trouble-shoot. In the base, there is a small hole towards the back that has a white central piece that sticks up and a white ring around it that sits in the hole. In the non-functioning unit the lower ring was stuck down, but in the functioning one the ring sort of floats up and down. I gently wiggled the one that was stuck and it popped up. Put it back together and low and behold it works again!! The oscillating top makes that annoying light grinding sound, but the tank size is so much better than other units, so I'm bumping my review up to 3 stars.

I bought this last winter and it suited my needs. The oscillating was a bit loud for me, but I would just turn it off while I was sleeping. I normally get the blue filters, completely clog and wash them out once a week. Comparatively, this one is much easier to wash out as it has some sort of teflon-like coating. It doesn't look as terrible afterwards either. Been through three washes and still looks new, I usually get 6-8 out of the blue ones. Will update in a few months with my findings.

7/1 it's still looking pretty good, if a bit yellowish. Still works like new, has been washed weekly since arrival. The teflon coating is starting to peel and flake as of last week. Might be because I leave it in the sun to dry, I'm not sure. Will continue to use it until it can't perform, definitely got my money's worth out of it. Normally by week 6 on the blue ones I would notice a noise difference in the motor of my shop vac due to it having to work harder to pull air through the filter. I have not yet noticed it on this one.

9/30/10 Still using it, still washing it weekly, it'll probably need replaced in another month or so. The white coating is really taking a beating but has far outlasted the blue or white regular filters.

I'd suggest the cheaper, standard dry-only HEPA filter in place of this one, unless you occasionally suck up damp stuff or small amounts of liquid. This filter is not a good choice for wet applications. I also find that this filter is no easier to clean than any other reuseable cartridge filter. It's rinseable but that sounds better than it works in practice.

If you are faced with sucking up gallons of liquid, this filter doesn't work well. Unless the liquid is very clean, the filter clogs every few minutes. If I'm picking up a lot of liquid, I swap the good ol' foam sleeve back on.

This filter does work well for dry pickup. No more dusty exhaust, a huge improvement over the standard disc filters. However, it's no better than the standard HEPA filter in this regard.

Someone once suggested using an old-fashioned disc filter over the HEPA filter if you use it as a dust collector in a wood shop. I find this to be a very good combination. The disc filter takes out the bigger particles of sawdust, leaving the HEPA to do what it does best -filter the very fine stuff. Otherwise, you will find yourself cleaning the HEPA a lot. Maybe you lose some suction with the two filters in place, but I really haven't noticed. The disc / HEPA combo would probably be nice for drywall debris and other stuff that has both big chuncks and fine dust.

I purchased this item to be used in a Shop-Vac that removes chips and wood dust from woodworking machines.The claim was that, vacuumed particles would simply fall off the filter

after the power was shut off. I hoped that I could eliminate the expense of filter bags. NOT SO. The filter quickly became clogged and I had to clean it frequently in order to maintain the full flow of air through the vacuum. I have since added the filter bags and have eliminated the filter maintenance problem until the bag is full.

I'm sure that the CleanStream is more efficient than the original filter as far as removing the finer particles from the exhaust air. I would have given the item a 5 if it had met my expectations.

It's a great filter if used with an inside bag. It will catch the fine dust. If you use it alone or with a garbage bag and a bag keeper, it will quickly fill up with stuff and have to be cleaned out. To clean it, you need to blow it with compressed air, making a huge cloud of dust. If you tap it as suggested you still get a huge mess of dust and it doesn't come clean. I tried it all three ways and decided to pay the price for the inside bag which catches most of the stuff being vacuumed.

Of course I would not feel that way if I had not already purchased it.

I am in the middle of remodeling and sorely wish I had bought it before. I could have greatly minimized the dust in the house. The cost would have been small compared to the frustration and discomfort from dust in the house and garage.

OK, I have had this humidifier for about two months now. Make sure you are aware of the requirements of a filter-free humidifier before you buy one. First of all, I couldn't stand having a filtered humidifier. Constantly having to buy filters, they'd be out of stock at Target, unavailable for my brand at the supermarket, just too annoying, and honestly, they're several bucks every time. Why can't I just clean my own humidifier?

So here's the thing. If you opt to go filter free, read the documentation. I think a lot of the negative reviewers here aren't following the instructions... you have to clean your humidifier ONCE A WEEK. Some people are reporting, 'I have had my humidifier for a month and it's starting to stink.' Well, have you cleaned it four times since you've had it?

And yes, I would say, it's a bit of stretch to call this whisper quiet. Like any device running while you're trying to sleep, you're going to hear it. And when you're lying down trying to fall asleep, anything can sound like a freight train. But yes, I would not call this whisper quiet. It's just as loud as any other humidifier I've experienced. Being someone who likes to sleep in pitch dark, though, I'd say the very bright on-light is more annoying than the sound. I find the whisping whirr of it quite calming.

And the bottom line here is, I've slept wonderfully since I bought it. I wake up and find that I've been breathing through my nose instead of mouth-breathing like I had been. Because my sinuses are staying open and moistened.

So there you have it. If you want to go filter-free, you're taking on the task of cleaning it. Three quick release screws, soaking the base and intake tube in white vinegar, rinsing, putting it back together.

For me this has worked perfectly for months now, keeping the air in the room with my guitar at just the right humidity. I bought mine elsewhere but have had others and this one works just fine if you know what you are doing and take precautions. Not for every one, but for most, the red / orange is not mold but iron in your water. For most but not all, the white powder is lime in your water. This is a fact of life for many areas of the country and why people use water filters and water softeners. If you are in a problem area, use a Brita pitcher to filter the water you fill it with. I have tried it with our softened water with no problems but we recently got rid of the softener and will soon be switching to truly filtered water for the entire house. Until then I use a filtered water pitcher. All humidifiers have this problem. Even Consumers gave none more then an average rating for this problem. Baking soda, light bleach mixture, special cleaner, or just let it completely dry out once in a while and you, as I am, will probably be happy with the unit. Mine is still running clear and clean. For the money, this one ca't be beaten.

As so many others have stated, this product is a complete waste of money, and, I believe, a health hazard. If I could give it "0" stars I would. Despite my best efforts to use filtered water, a ProTec cartridge, and disinfect all reachable parts on a weekly basis with vinegar and/or bleach, mold has grown in the motor housing that is impossible to reach in order to properly sanitize this product. After contacting Kaz, I was told the same thing as so many others (I was hoping maybe they had changed their policy), that I would have to send the item back on my own dime, just to receive the same piece of junk as a replacement. Then, once I received the new one, I should "empty all the water from the tank and base (daily). Then run the unit without any water in it for at least 1 hour to dry the fan housing. If you do not want to run the unit without any water I would just remove the fan housing and unscrew the bottom cover and lay the fan housing on its side so it can air dry." Yeah, like I have the time to do that every day with two small children and one on the way. So this humidifier will probably end up in the trash, a waste of $45 + tax.

FYI, in the last couple of weeks I have purchased a Crane humidifier which doesn't require a filter either (unless you have hard water), for less money, and so far I haven't had any issues with it. It does its job perfectly! From now on, I will not be purchasing any more Vicks/Kaz products due to their complete lack of concern that they have sold a health hazard and aren't taking any responsibility to rectify the situation.

I would recommended this humidifier. It is pretty quiet, and I have it running all night to humidify the air. I can put the tray in the dishwasher to clean. No filter needed. I am not sure what the negative opinions that I read other readers write are all about. It is not been my experience. Yes, you need to clean it. But you have to clean all humidifiers. This one is easier than others though. It got a great report from Consumers Report, and that has been my experience as well.

I've had this unit for five months and dropped the Protect cartridge in there every month on the 12th to keep it clean. Despite these efforts, it has developed a pink film along with black mold that you can smell when it operates. I'm having trouble breathing. The area that is affected is IMPOSSIBLE to get to in order to clean it even with pressurized air. My unit has also flooded on two occassions destroying everything on my dresser.

I contacted Kaz who makes the unit. They said they would replace it but I'd be out of a unit for 6-8 weeks and I'd have to pay shipping costs. They will not replace it with another unit so I'm sure the same problem will reoccur. I decided to clean the unit the best that I can (this took 2 hours) and use liquid bacteriostatic water treatment instead of the worthless Protect cartridges. I hope this works.
