Will boil water very quickly, and the control dial facilitates quick settings. However, this model shares the design "feature" of the other 220v models currently available. It concentrates heat in a "ring" inside the pan, causing burns and charring at high heat. It also pulses on lower settings, meaning that the minimum wattage is 1300, and so this is not ideal for simmering or other low heat applications. For my purposes, it works well, since it sits in the section of my Dacor cooktop previous occupied by a 2200 watt electric burner. It acts as a "pasta station" as well as a quick way to bring water to a boil, before transferring to one of the gas burners for simmering or other cooking techniques requiring the fine control available with natural gas.

Other pluses are that it looks good and cleans easily. A minus is that it does not include a timer function, which I found useful on a Max Burton model I tried. I'll post a picture of my setup when I get a chance or if anyone is interested.

My Humidifier is a 13 year old Sears and still going strong! Been using these filters for years. They work great as long as you don't let them dry out but they can be re-activated by soaking them. Hard water can leave mineral deposits so it is best to use filtered water. Highly recommended, especially for the price!!

I used the Kenmore 14909 up until about 2 years ago when they redesigned it. The new version of the 14909 collapses after about a week of use and is a very poor product. I tried a couple other filters but they didn't wick as much water as the old style 14909 did. Then I found the BestAir E2R-6 Emerson HDC-2R replacement filter which works great. I'm going to purchase another one for next year.

I laugh when I read reviews stating that a particular hygrometer is "accurate" or "not accurate." I know these reviewers can not really tell one way or the other. Even laboratory calibrators have problems with determining accuracy. But here I'm going to call the Caliber III reasonably "accurate" and explain why. I do critical environmental surveys as part of my professional work and use a variety of expensive analog and digital instruments, thermometer wet/dry bulb psychrometers, multi-hair recording hygrothermographs, some instruments with NIST certification (but not mirror instruments). I've bought several "cheap" analog and digital hygrometers costing under $150.00 (including the Caliber III) to play with and check for suitable monitoring use by my daughters who humidify and dehumidify their living and storage spaces for violins and violas. I give this little instrument 5 stars for being reasonably "accurate" for its low price and small size certainly accurate enough for musical instrument storage, cigar humidors, and the most simple basic room environmental monitoring. However, don't expect that "accurate" means what the instrument displays is what the environment really is. And do not expect these inexpensive instruments to all read the same when placed side-by-side. And do not trust bag/salts solution verification or for "calibration." Even laboratory closed environmental chambers used for calibration purposes are difficult to manage. All the inexpensive instruments I purchased and all my costly professional instruments costing into the thousands do not give exactly the same readings when placed together in my laboratory controlled climate chamber. Do not expect a lot of precision in humidity measurement for a number of factors too complicated to go into here but related to airborne particles and various gaseous molecules in the air. RH is notoriously difficult to pinpoint with accuracy and a lot of work has gone into trying for critical industrial operations. For most instruments costing under around $150.00 that are displaying, let's say, 50% RH, just believe the actual RH is anywhere in the range 46-54% at best. Accept that limitation. Its hard to do, though, when you see that single digital number displayed. But you need to think in ranges only. And just like the mechanical/analog instruments, even the better ones with multiple strands of human hair, the potential range of digital instrument reading variations from actual RH will widen as your environment comes to either extreme from 50% RH, though not as much with digital as with mechanical/analog. This is important for the cigar keepers. If your better low cost digital unit is reading 65% RH, it really can be within the range of 50-75% RH but there is the "probability" (and that's all you can count on) that it is around 55-65% RH, and not likely 70% RH due to the upper end resistance to accurate measurements of all instruments. Forget using mechanical/analog "dial" instruments for humidors. The only ones reasonably accurate would not fit in most humidors. Using these at the extreme of 65% RH, if that is your target, is asking too much of them as the further from 50% RH the environment, the more resistant these are to reading the actual. However, for larger humidor cases, I have found the Oakton 357 to be good enough (I have three)and can give you some confidence that if its displaying 65% RH, its probably 60-70 RH. For instruments up to $1,000, a 50% RH reading probably represents actual RH of 48-52% RH. Do not expect more. One other thing you must know about digital hygrometers, and this is critical to recognize, they are fast(the more you pay for the sensor within it, the faster its response) and they quickly read their local environments which includes your body heat, skin moisture, breath moisture, and varying temperature and humidity in local air currents you may not even feel. You are a walking warm cloud. Certainly don't hold one and expect it to match another instrument sitting next to it on a shelf! The heat of your hand warms the plastic case raising the temperature reading and thus also drastically affecting RH. Don't even stand within three feet of a sensitive and fast digital instrument and expect it to match the display of one four feet from you. Also, this digital instrument and others like it will detect and display numbers representing something close to the real differences in the environment that can exist just inches apart. That's why two of the same instruments next to each other may not match its not bad quality but high sensitivity. This speed and accuracy of even inexpensive hygrometers is probably the sole cause of people complaining about "inaccuracy" of digital hygrometers and the frustration they experience. The differences they observe in the readings can be really due to accurate sensitivities. Though digital relative humidity monitors tend to be fast, and the more you pay the faster they are, for many purposes the less fast the better because their relative slowness tends to eliminate the small local differences in environments that make people think their instruments are going "haywire." For more information related to how difficult it is to really get accurate RH readings and difficulty in calibration, you must read "The Trouble with Humidity" under the tab "Publications" on the Veriteq.com website. If you want just "a little more accuracy", you can get "a little more accuracy" by paying a few extra hundred dollars, like over $500 for a Vaisala HM34. For the price, and considering how nearly impossible it is to get a true measurement of RH, maybe its good enough for you just to know, for example, "well, the RH is likely to be somewhere between 45 and 55 according to this instrument because its displaying 50."

I bought this hygrometer after a lot of research. I use it to monitor the humidity level in my acoustic guitar cases. The hygrometer is compact (fits nicely in guitar cases), is easy to read, and has the nice feature of a record of highs and lows. It is very responsive, in fact I bought two (two guitars!) and tested them side by side, and they basically changed simultaneously. If you pick it up, within seconds the recorded humidity level changes just from the moisture of your hand! It has the industry reputation for being the most accurate hygrometer, and my experience bears that reputation out. I highly recommend this hygrometer for acoustic guitar owners, though for whatever reason it is typically just listed for cigar humidors guitar makers, dealers, and players should all take notice.

I used the Boveda One-Step Calibration to see how accurate this hygrometer is and the Caliber III was dead on. What you see is the actual humidity rating. I have used other hygrometers before, but this is the most accurate one I have come across.

Honest reviews on Caliber III Thermometer Hygrometer

I must be the unlucky one. I was convinced that this hygrometer would be accurate as all the reviews say. Unfortunately I must have got the few that passed QA. I purchased the One Step EZ Hygrometer Calibrating Kit from a local cigar store and after following the directions to the T, my hygrometer was reading +4%. I thought it had to do w/ how the room temperature was affecting the reading. So I conducting two other tests where the room temp was at 80 degrees and one at 65 degrees. Still it read 79% humidity for both tests when the Calibration kit says it should be reading 75%.

Long story short which every hygrometer you purchase I would recommend purchasing a calibration kit and just put a sticky note on your hygrometer w/ the +/of how much it's off to remind you of the true reading.

hth,

ant

Simple but does the job. I got one of the calibration kits where you put the hygrometer in a bag which creates a certain humidity that you can compare to the reading on the hygrometer. The hygrometer seemed to be right on. I like that it saves high and low temperature and humidity.

This works great in my dry stuffy hot office. I have sinus problems so I will occasionally lean over this and breath in through my nose to bet some moisture back into my sinuses. That said the area around this thing WILL get damp. Ideally you can place it high and let the mist fall and dissipate, but for me the cord wasn't long enough. Not bad, but not perfect.

January 3rd, 2013: Update. No longer works. Makes a lot of noises but water will no longer come out of the top of the device. I tried cleaning it, submerging the cotton piece for 5 minutes, and still nothing. Now its just a whistling piece of plastic.

Honest reviews on Mini USB Cool Mist Ultrasonic Humidifier with Auto Shut-off

This was a great little purchase. I use it in my hotel when traveling during the winter. Start it up when I check in, run for the full two hours, then set up again to run all night in the 8hr mode. Perfect! No more dry nose. Just be careful to pack it neatly, and do not mess with the top flapper. I have been extremely careful with this device and am very pleased.

I purchased this mini-Humidifier and although it did arrive in a timely fashion, it only lasted 3 days before it would no longer humidify. It worked nicely for the 3 days that it worked properly. I believe you can send the product back, but I figured that it would be a waste of time and that trying something different might be a better option. At least the light still works.

I purchased a square heater from kero-world and the wick that was installed worked fine, but this replacement was hard to install and smoked very bad. I tried several wicks and had the same results. I was told to purchase a larger round heater that takes wicks with pins and had no problems. I dont know why these wicks would not work???

We live in an old house and use space heaters. We have baby twins and the humidifier option on this heater is a must have. If you want a less dry heat, this is perfect.

Apparently they still have this problem. I had assumed they had fixed it by now. I can't imagine why they haven't. They are sending people the WRONG PRODUCT. I actually didn't mind the different heater they sent so I just kept it. Note it does NOT have a humidifier if that's what you were focusing on.

GE ADER30LP White Dehumidifier Review

GE ADER30LP White Dehumidifier
Customer Ratings: 3 stars

This is the first review I've entered for items not purchased from Amazon simply because I think it is it important that people know about this item. Purchased this item 05.05.2011 and as of 05.21.2011 it has stopped pulling moisture from the air. While it did work (continuously) for about 2 weeks it pulled water constantly, filling the bucket almost every 20 hours. The only thing I did notice while it did pull moisture it never lowered the humidity by more than 20 degrees (85% to 65%). This seems alot but when it never reached even 50% humidity it would just maintain a steady 65% despite emptying the bucket even before it was full. It was in a closed basement, no more than 250 square feet. Be warned when buying this product.

Pros:

Pulls moisture.

LCD display and buttons worked 100%

Warned when bucket was removed and filter needed cleaning.

Cons:

Quite loud. Like an electric lawnmower up close.

Inefficient couldn't get to a lower humidity.

Short lifespan when used continuously.

This Dehumidifier, while I didn't purchase it at Amazon, I too feel I have to write a bad review. I was using the continuous drain feature with a hose from the side. When I set it up last week, the Continuous light on the top was illuminated on the top and the dehumidifier seemed to be working fine. When I next checked on it, the full bucket light was illuminated and it hadn't drained through the hose, the bucket was indeed full. GE Customer support was no help. I am returning this after spending many hours trying to get it to drain through the hose.

Best Deals for GE ADER30LP White Dehumidifier

Just purchased this unit for our beach condo. It's been a really humid summer and I noticed a moldy odor that was not there previously. I had a rough start looking for dehumidifiers and purchased this one after returning 2 other units both different brands. This first one I bought leaked water from the catch bucket a Haier with 45 pt capacity. But is totally useless if it puts water back into the room/floor. When I returned it, I opened other boxes of the same type and they all have a hole in the catch bucket.....so I decided to try my luck at another store where I got glowing recommendations from the dept mgr to purchase the LG. The LG smelled like burned rubber straight out of the box and the acrid and pungent smell was worse than the moldy smell I was trying to eliminate. If I had read the reviews on the LG on line, I would have never bought it....the burned rubber smell was mentioned more than once so idk if its a manufacturing issue or someone with a house fire returned it....... I bought this GE also without reading reviews and hoped for the best.......I have not had any problems and am really happy with it, the humidity is reduced to the settings we select, the air feels so much better, it turns itself off when it has reached the proper setting and then back on when the humidity increases. I like the 3 speed fan so it can be turned down if we are watching tv since this is in a living/dining room area. None of the issues mentioned in other reviews. This GE has only been plugged in for 2 days but its working great. No problems emptying the bucket no spills as long as you wait a few minutes to empty once the machine alerts you to a full bucket. I don't know if it will stop working in a month or two due to the constant use, but so far it's better than the other 2 that I tried. I could probably use a larger dehumidifier since it is filling up on a daily basis....so I may move this to another area and buy a larger one for the living room area.

Honest reviews on GE ADER30LP White Dehumidifier

I purchased this unit a week ago and it seems to be working well. I personally haven't had any issues with it like many of the other posters have. This unit replaced a 50Qt model that came with the house. It was still running but it wasn't pulling water anymore. I tried to find another 50 Qt model but apparently they are shipped where they are most needed which seems to be Colorado and the south east due to hurricane season. Our basement isn't damp but like all closed basements it traps humidity. It worked quick and easy right out of the box. I use a hose to keep mine drained. Not here, but other reviews, people had a hard time getting the hose attached. If you don't take the bucket out I could see how it would be hard, but it's simple and was easier to attach than my old unit where you had to push a plastic tube in just right. One thing, it has to be a narrow hose attachment, It can't be one of the plastic hose attachments with the large grips.

In 4 hours it dropped my basement humidity from 65% yo 55% and there is a constant trickle of water down the drain. The 3 fan speeds are nice and it is quieter than my old unit. It doesn't have the annoying dehumidifier sound when the compressor kicks on. It sounds like there is a small utility fan in the room when it's on medium and slightly louder on high. You can always turn it to low or off when you are in the room and high during the night. I have left it on high in another room of our partially finished basement and it doesn't bother me. I can't hear it over my computer honestly. The Display isn't annoyingly bright like so many electronics and it shows the current humidity in the room in 5% increments and you can adjust it to whatever you want. You can also turn it on constantly for 2 to 4 hours or continuous. It has an indicator telling you to clean your filter which I tend to never think about. All in all I'm Happy with it so far.

I can see the issues if you are using a bucket since it doesn't have a good grip until you pull it out enough to reach the handle.

It is a smaller unit than I was looking for so hopefully it is powerful enough to keep the humidity down without burning itself out. I'll post back if anything happens.

The GE Dehumidifier works great in my RV. It collects about a gallon of water before turning off in 24 hours; but I usually empty it before it fills up. It has been trouble free for months now; working good. It makes a big difference removing excess moisture. It is much more comfortable inside the RV as a result of using this dehumidifier. It also cleans the air. The air filter collects dust well and is easy to remove and clean by tapping it on something. I leave it on all the time.
