So far, after a month of frequent use works great! I hated to spend $50+. I purchased and really loved the AromaSens Ultrasonic Diffuser from Puritan on sale for $39, but after 6-8 months it sputtered water, so I had to put it on a towel, and sometimes did not turn off. Then it died, so it was a waste of money and now sells everywhere for more than the BriteLeafs. This little diffuser takes fewer drops of essential oil to get the aroma needed for therapeutic aromatherapy, and the water lasts longer. It is easy to handle: the base clicks in so when you pick it up it doesn't come apart and spill. The directions were poorly translated but it's easy to figure out. Hold the "mist" button until it beeps on, press it to see the light move to the 30, 60, 120, or 180 min timer. I've tried all settings and it turns off at the right time. Second button is for the colored light, which has a bright and dim feature, great options, pleasant colors; I prefer to have the light off most of the time, so it's great to have that option. I don't see it sold anywhere else. I think the pictures make it look a little cheapy, but it's better when you see it in person. I'm buying a second for my massage therapy studio.

As mentioned in the title, this was my first diffuser. So I'm no expert. That said, it didn't meet my expectations. I expected it to diffuse the air in a small room in my place with the scent of eucalyptus oil. I tried multiple times with different amounts of water and oil and it never really produced any scent. The only time I could smell anything is if I went right up to the small opening where the mist was coming out of. I think that's unacceptable. I ended up returning it.

I've used four different cool diffusers and this one is the best. I've had my first for over a year with no problems. Purchased two more last month. Great product! And it looks good too.

Returned the item. The diffuser worked the first time I used it. Then it would not diffuse next day when I turned it on.

Love this vent. Works great, easy to install. Looks good like it was put in when the house was built.

Shipped very quickly but two of the seven vents were broken. I was able to fix them but I bought them brand new for a very cheap price. Got what I paid for.

This machine does the job, however, it takes white noise and raises it to an all new level of annoying. I suppose we'll get used to it, however, if you are looking for something you can't hear, this humidifier isn't for you. I know most of them are considered loud, but I have had at least 4 models over the years and the VICKS one we have in another room is far quieter, although quiet isn't the word I would use to describe it. I guess you would have to deal with the noise with any machine, but this one is louder than most.

I'm really scientific about stuff and it was no different when it came down to finding something to add more humidity to the air in my townhouse. I looked at three main options, the vaporizing or misting humidifiers, the filter/evaporation type humidifiers, and the types you install in your central air conditioning system.

I owned a couple vaporizing or misting humidifiers. I did not find them to be the best because they will pump water vapor into the air constantly with no regulation. Therefore you can easily get too much humidity. Also, they vaporize whatever impurities are in the water so those are also put into the air. Because the Jarden unit and similar types draw air over a wet filter and require evaporation to occur, as the humidity level rises less and less evaporation will take place. So they kind of self regulate. This Jarden unit has a hygrometer type sensor in it though, so you can set the humididty level. I tested the accuracy with an external calibrated hygrometer and it was fairly accurate.

The last type of humidifier is the type that installs in your home central air system. These are expensive and much more difficult to install and for those reasons I did not go that route.

I also bought this from Jarden. Since it's getting colder and winter time's around the corner, turning the heat on makes my nostrils and mouth really dry. So, I wanted a humidifier to help me out! I've been using mine for 5 days now and I love it!

Pros:

-$16

-I can feel it working-the cool mist

-The water definitely goes downso I know it's working...

I like the choice of settings: low and high, and % of moisture/humidity

Cons

-bit loud, but it's fine on a low setting. I watch TV before going to bed anyway, and I dont really hear it.

But Im used to it now,

Honest reviews on Jarden Consumer Heater SCM1866-UM Sunbeam Cool Mist Humidifier

I bought this unit from JardenStore when it was on sale. After two weeks use, this unit is now collecting dusts in my basement. It works OK on blowing mist, but WAY too noisy even at lowest speed setting. And worse, if you set it to run at automatic mode to maintain a humidity, it comes on and off in every tens of seconds bad design I would say.

This product can run for many hours even on the highest setting on one tank of water. It senses the humidity level, and you can either set it to the humidity level you would like and the speed you would like or set it to run continuously on the speed you would like. It really does a great job of moisturizing a pretty impressive size area, like say 150-200 sf would be my estimate, though high ceilings make it harder of course. As far as noise is concerned, it sounds like a fan because there is a fan in it, of course. You just aren't going to get anything that doesn't have the fan sound unless it uses heat to humidify. This works by running a fan over a wet filter, it's very energy efficient. But having 3 different speeds is very helpful, because the low and medium settings are pretty quiet. I also like the holding tank. It is sturdy and large. You can also fill it while the machine is running since there is a reservoir of water in the bottom. I bought this humidifier because my guitar needed some moisture, but I realized that my skin needed it too! It makes a cold winter much more bearable when there is some moisture in the air at home, and moisture can even prevent colds. Now I'm using it in Arizona for the opposite weather phenomenon.

I've just started using DoTerra essential oils and I LOVE THEM! I didn't want to pay their high price for their diffuser so I turned to my fav Amazon.

I was all set to order this in blue at $15 higher when I saw the orange. I figured I would save myself the $15 and I'm so happy I did.

It seriously works wonderfully! Granted I've never owned another diffuser, but this is very, very easy to use and works great!

I did Prime shipping and it was here in a few days. The packaging was beautiful!

The diffuser comes with 4 parts. 1. The base. 2. Electice adapter. 3. Inner cone. 4. Orange outer cone

It's very simple to assemble.

The base holds about 1/4 cup of water and 3-5 drops of essential oil. I've used 4 and it is plenty!

One of my favorite benefits of this diffuser is that it shuts off automatically when the water runs out!

The orange color of the cone tends to take on a bit of a reddish hue at the bottom where it's closer to the lights, but it still looks great. I do think the blue color would have a better ambience but I'm glad I saved $15 because I may buy another one for my family room,

The on/off button can be pushed once to turn on completely, twice to turn light off and a third time to shut off entirely. Therefore you don't need the light on at all times.

This doesn't fill an entire house. It's pretty small at about 12" high and maybe 5" diameter. You will need one for every room. I've just been moving mine from the living room then to the bedroom at night.

It puts off a huge aroma with just 4 drops and I'm thinking it runs continually for about 5-6 hours before needing to be refilled. The fan is very quiet. I can here it running but it doesn't interfere with anything.

The instructions point out several times not to tip it over. If you have small kids, you will need to keep it well out of reach as the 2 cones just sit on top of the base and the water would run out very very easily if tipped.

I love it and will be buying another one soon so I don't have to change rooms. I will buy this same product, but might splurge on the blue color for a change.

Scent diffuses for a good 3 hours. I don't understand the technology behind it, but the aroma is just as strong as the burners with fire. check out the video I took of this awesome product.

My wife is very much into essential oils and their therapeutic properties so I wanted to get this for her for a gift. Well, apparently I didn't read everything well because I didn't realize this was a water/oil diffuser. So, it's not as useful for the essential oil properties as it is for making a room/area smell great. So, with that in mind if you get this for making a room smell great, this is an awesome product. If you're looking for getting the healing/therapeutic properties of essential oils, there are other products out there that are better suited for the task. With that in mind, we love this little thing a few drops of essential oils and some water and you have the recipe for a relaxing environment.

Aprilaire Model 800 Automatic Whole-house Steam Humidifier Review

Save yourself many dollars and hours of frustration. I have tried 2 other whole-house humidifiers and 3 portable Humidifiers and this one is the best;

After frustrations with those previous models, this Aprilaire Model 800 was recommended to me by a friend in the HVAC business.

If you have hard water (test it), you want this unit. You just replace the canister and done. Cleaning sucks and can damage a humidifiers coils, the crud that builds up inside a humidifier is amazing in such a short time with hard water. With this unit the canister, which contains the coils, is replaced. Yes its not cheap, but its easy. Ask yourself, how much is it worth to you to not have your hardwood floors dry out and buckle or separate, not have your skin dry out and itch, or have your guitar dry out and crack? All of the above happened to me before this unit.

You'll likely want an HVAC professional to install this, but handymen with a little knowledge of plumbing can attempt; needs water line & drain nearby.

Outside Sensor: unless you have an easy way to install an outside sensor, then forget it. Instead, all you do is watch the windows, if they show condensation, turn the humidity down. I have my 800 cranked up and never had a problem.

I had the Honeywell Truesteam (and previously an older Aprilaire model), the Honeywell was time consuming to clean, and my unit broke the first winter. After replacing 3/4 of the parts in it and it still didn't work, I threw it out and got this.

It produces more steam than the other units I tried, approx. 12% more humidity (40% is ideal) than Honeywell, in my experience. I have a little humidistat I use to gauge its effectiveness.

If you have hard water, I suggest getting a filter otherwise expect to replace this up to 2 times a winter. Its your water, not the unit.

When it is time to replace the canister you can clean it with some CLR (soak overnight) and it will likely last a few more weeks. I put a wine cork in one end of the canister to hold the CLR and water overnight. Then shake and empty it over toilet, a lot of crud will come out.

Replacing canister: is easy, this is the beauty of this unit; turn off, unscrew cover, loosen hose clamp, remove black tube, disconnect 3 cables (easy), reverse process to install new one, turn on and Done! 5 minutes tops.

It a good idea to keep a spare canister handy, you won't have to go without humidity.

Thermostat: I tied my into into my existing HVAC thermostat and didn't need the digital control, its displays the humidity right next to temperature, plus my existing thermostat was in an appropriate place in the house. I needed my HVAC professional for this.

This unit is metal, not plastic, its feels very solid. I've had no problems. It has an error light to tell you if there a problem or when to change canister.

Portable Whole-house Humidifiers. My experience has been they service a much much smaller area than they suggest and are rated as if your house is of the most well insulated home out there. For Example I bought the biggest unit I could find (Essicks Air Whole House 300), its the best of the portables, but it is only good to keep one room fully humidified. It did raise the humidity but not nearly enough. Granted, my home is not well insulated. Also you have to constantly fill it with water, every other day, in my case and this thing holds like 5 gallons.

Best of Luck!!!!

Works perfectly like a champ. Installed in Oct 2011 on a hybrid gas furnace/heat pump system. Worked perfectly last winter. Replaced canister in Oct 2012 (replacing it is a snap) and continues to work fine. I run mine on 240V and it runs wide open at about 23 gpd most of the time when the OAT is below 40 or so. The improvement over a bypass humidifier is like night and day; it achieves 40-45% RH nearly all the time. Of course, it cost $$$ to operate because boiling water takes energy. Figure about $300 per season. But I didn't buy it to be cheap. I bought it to create comfort rather than just the illusion of comfort that a bypass humidifier provides, and it succeeds in every aspect.

I had the Aprilaire model 800 installed 1 year ago (November 2011) and it has worked great no problems -going to change out the canister this month and hope for another year of no problems. I saw the earlier write-up of this system having issues but for me the system works great and i compared to the honeywell humidifier and based on my research this system is superior.

Honest reviews on Aprilaire Model 800 Automatic Whole-house Steam Humidifier

We had ours installed a while ago (early fall 2012) too. Absolutely loving it! Steam goes right into the heat vents and goes all the way up onto the 2nd floor of the house. Waterbill went down unlike with the old version water went down the drain rather than being blown into the heat vents!!! (besides owning antique furniture (18th c) we do not have any more broken ripped cracked furnitures. We had the previous model installed to stop the insanity of breaking furnitures due to the extreme dry heat in the house. The result was a poor 25-30% now we are up to 45%! Sound furniture and sound health! No more stuffy noses or sore throats in the mornings!!!) (and yes we had 4 "AC"Plumbers come and look at the device, who only then turned around and ran its too new. 'Got to find the right honest & KNOWLEDGEABLE installer! + do your homework and find out (via Web) how it functions, so the "professionals" cant tell you a story!)

I went through two Honeywell Truesteam units before switching to the Aprilaire 800. The design of the Aprilaire is superior to the design of the Honeywell. It's really night and day. The Honeywell ran incredibly hot, and the circuitry is immediately above where the water boils (i.e., in a very hot place), and the parts are not near the quality of the Apriliare. Please trust me on this--the Honeywell is a toy compared to the Aprilaire.

To be fair, the Honeywell only hooked up to 110 volt power, whereas the Aprilaire can hook up to 110 or 220 volts (another sign of a good design, BTW) as well as 11.5 or 16.5 amps. I have the Aprilaire hooked up to 220 at 11.5 amps and man does it work quick. It's amazingly fast.

I've had it hooked up for three weeks now and it has easily kept the relative humidity at a near constant 45%. I ended up hooking it up to the Honeywell TrueIAQ humidistat that I already had installed, and everything is working beautifully. The Honeywell continually had issues, and I had to deal with them every single day until I just couldn't get it working anymore. The Aprilaire has had zero issues and I simply let it run. I don't take it for granted because I was trained by the Honeywell to check on it multiple times a day. Now whenever I check on the Aprilaire I do it with a smile on my face because it's always working exactly as it should.

I'm so much more confident with this device because of the design. The other thing the Aprilaire handles well is that it works with either hard or soft water--each have their own pros and cons, whereas the Honeywell has to have soft water if you want to get any longevity out of it. I happen to have a water softener so this wasn't an issue with me, but I point it out because the Aprilaire is well designed even in this respect. If you have hard water you will replace the inner cannister more, but your unit will work well because the water will boil more efficiently.

I should also note that my unit is a remote installation. It is installed in my linen closet about 6 feet away from my furnace. Even the hose that takes the steam from the unit to the furnace is superior when compared to the Honeywell. I haven't had any issue with the remote installation. When I first installed it and tested it, my humidistat was reading 45%, so I set humidity at 50% and it took only 40 minutes to get my entire 2000 square foot home up to 50%. I know it's not a big home, but it would've taken the Honeywell a lot, lot longer to make a 5% move.

I'm telling you, it's night and day with this device compared to the Honeywell. Do not buy the Honeywell. Please. Look on the Internet by comparing the two and you'll see a lot of bad words for the Honeywell, including at least one of the reviews here at Amazon. Don't make the same mistake I made.

I had been buying the same filters from my AC guy, but found them on Amazon for half the price. For all I know, he gets his there too.

They seem to work really well. It's a bit difficult to quantitatively judge just how well they do without specialized equipment, but my wife says that she gets very little dirt when she dusts. They may seem high priced, but if a person changes say, a Filtrete 1-inch filter, once a month then the total cost would be more than using the 4-inch ones, which last a year under normal use. Plus, you only have the hassle of changing them once a year instead of once a month.

They don't look particularly well-made, but they're strong enough to get the job done.

I've never had any problems with these filters until recently. I bought two of them in early December and within the month, both seemed to be having extreme difficulty letting air flow through even though there was no visible dust build-up on the filters. I just noticed that my heater/ac was much louder and running more often and when I checked the filters, there was extreme pressure pulling on them. $80+ on filters in one month is outrageous. Went back to a $20 Filtrete and will see how that does. Seems to be much better for now. Will probably never buy these again.
