took very long to receive items ordered that we had forgotten that we had ordered these items. As to how they work don't know yet because we had purchased other filters to make unit work and have not had to get into these items yet.

This works exactly how you would expect a humidifier filter to work. Our humidifier runs 8+ hours a day and the filters last about 3-4 months before we need to replace them.

I purchased this item for my humidifier on Amazon because my local store does not carry the replacement filter any longer. It is a great product at a good price, so I stocked up on it. I use it every night to help with my sleep & allergies.

This is a really nice looking travel case with great build quality, but it doesn't seal well at all, so it's sort of useless as a humidor. It might be fine to use in the summer in a humid area, but I just used it on a ski trip, and had a lot of trouble keep my cigars at the right moisture level.

There is absolutely ZERO reasons for this to cost nearly $50. Comparable filters by other manufacturers are less than HALF this price. I don't blame Amazon, as this is the going price for these things...BUT Vornado should be ashamed. I bought the purifier because my Vornado fan has been going strong for 5 years... but now I seriously doubt I will ever buy from them again (at least anything that uses a consumable item, such as a filter). This is simply a money grab by Vornado at the expense of it's loyal customers.

Save your money and but a different air purifier that has charges reasonable prices for filter replacements. In the long run it will be cheaper (even if you already own this purifier).

While I like the Vornado Air Purifier, the replacement filters are way too expensive. Because I have pets in the house, hepa filters are the best option, but they should not be this expensive.

Best Deals for Vornado AQS 15 Replacement HEPA Filter

I have had my Vornado for about 10+ years and still running. Not an everyday usage but significant enough. As all good air filters, the filters themselves cost a bunch. For $45 this will last for a long while. Make sure you get the pre-filter, this will add life to this HEPA filter.

Honest reviews on Vornado AQS 15 Replacement HEPA Filter

Like other reviewers, I have two vornado air purifiers which works great, but the HEPA filter is ridiculously expensive and lasts barely 2 months before it loses significant air flow. I've decided to dump the vornado air purifier and got a different brand with "lifetime" hepa filter that doesn't need replacing.

It does work and keeps the air fresh I didn't change mine for literally years (I would take it out and hand clean it periodically which I don't think hurts anything, but finally I decided I had better get a new one.

It is quite easy to remove and put back in, no problem there, seems a simple process.

Seems tremendously expensive when you see what it is but maybe there's something I'm not understanding in the technology of making it. As I said though I did go several years (more than 5, with regular use), before I replaced it. Cheaper than a whole new air purifier.

I'm new to the world of cigars and bought this as a gift for a friend. As part of that gift I wanted to have him open it stocked and ready to use. Well, that ain't happening. The seal of a humidor is the be all, end all test of quality. This box is not quality.

On first checking the product after arrival I noticed the lid was very easy to close. There was no resistance at all. That should've tipped me off to return it, but again, I'm not familiar with this stuff and figured the seasoning process would fix that issue.I had ordered a Boveda seasoning pack along with the box since that seemed to be the easy, no hassle way to get things done. I followed the instructions on the pack, opened it and left it inside the humidor for 2 weeks. Once the time was up I lifted the lid to no resistance and a dried up Boveda. All the videos and tutorials I checked said this was set and forget. I suppose the gap was too large and led to all the moisture being sapped out of the seasoning pack.

So I decided to try the old school method of distilled water and a sponge. This too has ended in failure. During the first phase everything seems to be going well. The wood around the lid swells up and will get a very tight seal. After only a few hours, even with the sponge set inside (on a plastic bag after wiping down the interior) to allow additional moisture to be soaked up, the wood dries back out and loses whatever light seal was there. I can see large gaps where the insert corners meet. The inserts themselves are also somewhat loose. They aren't going to fall out, but you can push on the center and it will bow out. This adds to the poor seal.

I've tried the distilled water/sponge method twice. At this point it seems to be a lost cause. I was only able to get around to doing this recently and the return window has long since expired. I may try some hack-ery to get humidor up to par, but as it stands, it's been a very disappointing purchase. I also can't speak to the "travel" part of the humidor. If you're going to travel with something spend the extra money and purchase one of the plastic cigar caddies. They offer way more protection and are easier to work with.

I will mention one positive about "Quality" Importers travel humidor product: the exterior looks nice. If you don't need to store cigars but want a nice looking storage box for keys or jewelry it's not too bad. Those expecting a kit that will protect your rH sensitive smokes need to look elsewhere. As the adage goes, you get what you pay for.

I've bought many items from Amazon, but this the first time I felt compelled to write a review for a purchased item because of lack of information on this humidor. I've already have a desktop humidor box and a traveling humidor can. Unfortunately, the humidor can won't fit the 8" cigar I usually smoke. So I was hoping this would fit the need. I was considering the capri-glas top humidor, but the height of that box was 1" higher than my liking. Plus, I am going to take it with me on traveling, so the box will most likely be in places where it might be under the sun (i.e. car). Then I saw the Rivera model and thought it be the better option for me. Unfortunately, there was no description of its dimension! Uh, that's kind of important, isn't it? Especially, if it's a travel humidor. So, I ponder it for a couple of days. Looking at its photo over and over again. I finally decided to go ahead with the purchase base on the photo comparison between Rivera and Capri-glass top. I figure if nothing else, the Rivera model should be shorter in term of height.

The item arrived two days before its scheduled delivery. So that was good. I opened up the box and everything was included per item description; the humidifier, the hygrometer, the engraving plate. It didn't came with instruction for how to calibrate the hygrometer or how to season the humidor. That might be a bit of an annoyance for a first timer. But it's nothing a little search on the internet wouldn't solve. Anyway, the first thing I did was take out my ruler and measure the interior dimension. To my chagrin, the interior measured 9.5"x7.75"x1.5" (exterior is 10.5"x8.75"x2.75"). It will fit my 8" Cubano only in horizontal position, leaving about 1.5" of empty space...

I then start the task of calibrating the hygrometer and seasoning the box. Put the meter in a zip lock bag along with a teaspoon of damp salt in it. Woke up the next morning, check on the reading, the meter reads 60. Um, okay, maybe it just need a little more time. So I left it in the bag and went to work. When I came back from work, the reading still indicate 60. I thought to myself, "WTF! This thing is off by +15!?" I decided to take the meter out of the bag anyway and went ahead with the seasoning process. I figured if it really is off by how much I think it is, then the reading should be 55 by the time seasoning is done. Sure enough, 8 hours later, the meter reads 55.

Basically, it's an exquisite humidor (for its price) with a really crappy hydrometer! As of now, I am still testing the meter's reading to see if the +15 margin is really accurate. If it is, then I'll probably keep this crappy hygrometer and just live with the error. Otherwise, I might have to invest in another hygrometer... Lastly, I think all humidor should at the very least, list its interior dimension so people can decide if it's the right size for their purpose or not.

Best Deals for Quality Importers Travel Humidor

The humidor is real pretty, packed well. There are no instructions for a first timer on how to season. The humidifier has no instructions either, and the peel off sticky pad had no stick, I had to use rubber cement to attach it to the box, which I hope doesn't affect the smell and taste of the el-cheapo brands I can afford. But, it is a pretty box. As for instructions thank Al Gore for the internet! ehow.com has instructions for both seasoning and using the humidifier.

Update day 3: The rubber cement is not going to hold the humidifier's metal mount in place.

Honest reviews on Quality Importers Travel Humidor

I've been using this humidor for a year and it's really up to what I was expecting. The seal is good, it keeps it's humidity level and I don't need to put a lot of distilled water in the humidifier. Worth the buy!

Spent many hours researching how to install a whole house humidifier and this one was recommended many times. When our furnace got serviced this fall the technician also recommended we get a humidifier and when I asked him which model this is the one he recommended. It's really hard to find anyone selling this unit because the manufacturer doesn't want just anyone to install it, they recommend a technician so I was pretty happy when I found it here on Amazon.

After doing some research and a couple times watching this video on youtube() I decided to take the project on myself. It actually was a lot easier than I had expected. Aprilaire's instructions were pretty easy to follow and the automatic digital control gives you a great display in case an error code comes up.

If you are good at following instructions, and have some confidence you can save yourself around $300-$500 on the installation cost I was quoted from 4 different HVAC companies. I was able to complete the project in 3 hours. Another friend of mine installed the same unit in his house and he took just about the same amount of time, he might have been closer to 4 hours. So in 3-4 hours you will be sitting back enjoying the new humidifier.

Things You Will Need To Install Yourself:

* 3/4" PVC pipe (optional, i used it to run the 1/2" tubing into to continue to the drain instead of running the tubing all the way, I split into the same 3/4" coming out of the furnace)

* 1/4" copper tubing to run the hot water into the humidifier

* 1/2" plastic tubing to drain the water

* Sawzall or equivalent tool to cut sheet metal

* Low-Voltage wiring to wire the thermostat and thermometer (i bought 2 of these Coleman Cable 09631 CL2 Bulk Thermostat Cable, 18-Gauge 2-Conductor 50-Feet)

* 2 Electrical Terminals for the wiring

* Some wiring caps (medium size)

* Foil Tape (I bought 3M 3311-50 Scotch Foil Tape, 2-Inch-by-50-Yard)

* Pipe Cutter (I bought Ridgid 40617 1/4-Inch to 1-1/8-Inch Close Quarters Tubing Cutter)

* Permanent marker

* Level

It's been running for over a month now and I was able to notice a difference immediately. I even have a gauge on the second floor that measures humidity and it's constantly has the correct amount of humidity in the house. I'm very happy with this purchase and highly recommend it to anyone in the market.

I had been researching whole house humidifiers for some time and finally decided on this Aprilaire Model 700 Automatic Whole-house Powered Humidifier with Digital Control from talking to local HVAC installers and reviews I located online. I checked around and the lowest I could find someone to install it for me was $350, so I decided to take the plunge and do it myself. I was a little apprehensive because I had never worked with a furnace or cutting into sheet metal before. I bought an inexpensive pair of sheet metal snippers and it was a little difficult, but not bad overall to cut the hole in the plenum. Home Depot proved to be invaluable in helping me with the plumbing connections. I used shark-bite fittings instead of the supplied saddle valve (every plumber I talked to advised me against using the saddle valve). I also used plastic pipe instead of copper. Overall I spent about $70 on supplies. I installed the unit on the supply side, as was recommended, but I could not justify hooking it into the hot water line and watch energy just pour down the drain. The instructions indicated a cold water supply was fine as long as the unit was mounted on the supply side. The unit does trickle water down the drain hose as it is operating, this is normal. My biggest apprehension was the wiring. I found some VERY helpful youtube videos of an HVAC installer somewhere in the midwest installing one of these in a clients home. I probably watched them 20 times during my own installation. One hiccup I encountered was after wiring everything according to the instructions, my unit powered on fine, but would come on when there was a call for heat, instead of waiting for the blower to come on. This made me extremely nervous as I didn't want water vapor blowing into the plenum before the blower was operating. A quick email to the youtube video publisher mentioned earlier confirmed my worry and he explained to wire the transformer into the HUM terminal neutral on the furnace board and to then use the power for the blower HEAT terminal for the power. The installation instructions made no mention of what is correct as to when the humidifer should come on, but for peace of mind, wiring as suggested by the HVAC installer was preferred. One additional step I took was to purchase some duct sealant that I then used to calk around the unit to seal off any gaps. I have already noticed a huge difference in the humidity level in our home, as we live in a very dry climate in SE Idaho. I was tired of spending money upon money buying table top humidifiers that required expensive filters or just broke down and were junk after a couple of years. This unit seems like it will meet my needs, I give it 5 stars and would encourage someone with general handy-man skills to go ahead and try installing, but to be prepared to ask questions if you get stuck.

Best Deals for Aprilaire Humidifier, 120V Whole House Humidifier w/ Auto Digital

I have installed the Aprilaire Model 700 a couple of months ago. It is working properly with a couple of adjustments. I made the connection for automatic setting (with a exterior temperature sensor).

When I received the humidifier I notice the "NEW IMPROVED WIRING DIAGRAM" (see picture). If you follow the wiring diagram, the humidifier will start working when there is a call for heat (connection "G").

The is a problem caused by the following: (1) my furnace fan wait for 1 minute -after the heat callto start running. But, the humidifier is already on and is blowing humidity into the system. (2) My basement is unfinished, and the humidity inside the returning duct goes down rather significantly (e.g. if the house's relative humidity (RH) is 40%, the returning duct might be 30%), yet once the furnace fan start running the RH stabilizes at the RH of the house. These two factor may create a very short run of the humidifier.

I read all the reviews, and one solution is to wire into the furnace control card. I found this rather difficult because I couldn't find the furnace' card (it is a Lennox) specifications. So, the solution I found is to install a DELAY ON MAKE (Timer with .03-10 minute adjustable delay and 6" wire leads, universal 18-240 VAC: you can get this timer in Amazon as well for a $15 aprox.) to install between the humidistat outputs (the second "H" connection) and one of the solenoid line (see picture and modified wiring diagram). I adjusted the time to 3 minutes, so the RH inside the duct system can stabilize before calling for humidity.

Since then, the humidifier does not blow air into the system when the furnace fan is not running, and also wait long enough to allow the RH inside the duct to stabilize.

Honest reviews on Aprilaire Humidifier, 120V Whole House Humidifier w/ Auto Digital

Buyers Beware.

In the lower right-hand corner of the installer instruction sheet for the 700 & 700m is this note:

"The Model 700 is not suitable for installation on ducts with horizontal airflow. Performance will be reduced." This is an understatement; performance is horrible when mounted on a horizontal duct.

It appears that many HVAC dealers aren't aware of this limitation, and happily recommend it as "top-of-the-line." When installed horizontally, the Model 700's hardly work at all--even with hot water supplied--and the dealer flounders around scratching his *** while you suffer from dry eyes, cracked skin, and static charges around the house.

There's a fascinating thread on this topic on the Professional HVAC forum. Just google "aprilaire 700 horizontal duct."

Great product, but can a lot of water passes through the unit which is wasteful and costly because it's hot water. I highly recommend NOT using the standard A35 Water Pad, but one of the more efficient "wick" type filters rated at 50% greater capacity. Several companies offer compatible products such as the Aprilaire A35-W Wick Water Panel, A35WPR Aprilaire 600 Humidifier Water Panel Paper Evaporator, or RPS BestAir A35W White Pad RPS #A35W Aprilaire350 Water Pad, or Honeywell ME360, HE360B or Clenair Ultra Upgrade Humidifier Panel model CA35UP. These are all hybrid pads made out of materials (usually paper fiber) that retain more moisture available for evaporation compared to the standard A-35 water panel where water quickly drips off. Another mitigation to this problem is to adjust the valve on the hot water intake line so that surplus water flowing through the unit is minimized. My professional installer could not get the drain line to go into the plumbing drain, so the drain water goes into the Air Conditioner condensation drain line. He told me there's a risk with that type of installation that the drain water line can freeze or create ice buildup outside the house at the drain point. It's preferable if the drain can go to existing plumbing drain rather than AC line, which could freeze if used in winter, but this may not always be convenient with your building layout. Also I recommend not depending on the filter change reminder light on the control panel since it's just a dumb timer. The length of replacement time will depend greatly on actual mineral buildup, i.e. how hard your water is, how often the unit runs, and how much water passes through it.

I would have rated this a 5 star if the cleaning was easier, but I do not know if such a humidifier exists.

We have hard water and the build up of scale was becoming a problem, even with daily cleaning (yes, you should clean this unit daily). I came up with a solution to reduce and almost eliminate the scale I add a teaspoon of baking soda to the tank when I refill it. The scale is drastically reduced and the unit runs at a whisper quiet. I originally ran the unit without the baking soda and there was some noise, mainly gurgling, that was too loud for me since I am a light sleeper.

There is a black covered heating element that requires cleaning to remove scale. This can be very difficult to remove. I solved this as part of the weekly maintenance when you use vinegar to clean the base. The part with the heating element rests on the base. By adding enough vinegar to fill the well where the heating element engages with the base, and allowing it to soak for 10 or 15 minutes, the scale is easily removed.

I like the warm mist because it helps warm up the room.

Overall, I believe this unit is a great value.

I bought one for the office and liked it so much I bought another one for home. I like the warm mist, it heats the water and kills the germs before sending out mist. You have to be so careful with cool mist humidifiers especially ones with a filter, because if you get sick the germs lodge in the filter and just multiply and you wind up re-circulating germs through the mist. I've read about the gurgling noise and yes baking soda does get rid of it I'm a light sleeper and I have mine right next to my bed. It keeps the sinus moist which prevents sinus infections. The vinegar is great for cleaning the unit as well. And I love the fact that I don't have to deal with filters. I HATE filters. This is like plug and go! I've had mine over 2 years and it's still going strong. Hope they never discontinue it.

Best Deals for Holmes HWM6000-UM Small Room Warm Mist Humidifier

It produces upto 2.5 gallons per day, but the tank is only 1 gallon so you have to refill it a lot to get this. The instructions say DO NOT use detergents on any part but then it says to put the bottom section in the dishwasher. It takes a lot of time and effort to clean the scaling off, partly because you have to wait 15 minutes after turning it off since the heating element remains hot for a long time and could send out random steam to burn you as you pick it up. In terms of cost vs time it's probably a better deal for many people to just buy new wicks for an evaporating humidifier. But the worst thing is a metal plate on the bottom maybe 1/3" from the ground that's there to prevent the plastic from melting under the heating element. That's pretty close to the floor to have a metal plate that's nearly boiling hot and is probably the real reason why the manual says to keep it off rugs or finished floors. It also had a pretty bad plastic outgas smell; maybe this will go away in time though. All considered I don't really even feel safe leaving this on when I'm not in the room (although there's probably no rational reason behind it).

great value for the money. no filter was the reason for the purchase and thank goodness. can be hard to clean, but i haven't tried the baking soda yet. can be heavy when full of water, and the tank is so big that i have to use the bathtub to fill it because it doesn't fit under my sink. it is very quiet and would recommend it to anyone.

We bought this humidifier last year and my son used it in his smaller room and it worked very well. The gurgling sound was no louder than a tranquility fountain. It only lasted about 10 minutes and then it was silent throughout the night. The water tank was just right, one fill is all it took. (Any larger capacity tank would cause it be too heavy to carry. I can't imagine that.) We tried it in our master bedroom and since it is large we would rather have two of these humidifiers than to try another brand. We save a lot of money since we don't need to buy filters. We have had no issues with cleaning.

I received the order promptly, but the filters weren't the Honeywell HC888 that I ordered. The company had substituted another filter, and the diminsions listed are a bit different. I contacted them, and they stated that they were interchangable. I was disappointed that the product delivered was not the product I ordered, and only hope that they work as well as the ones I thought I was going to receive. The only reason I didn't return them is that I would have had to pay shipping, and I am on an extremely tight budget.

Best ThermoMist Automatic Humidifier Deals

ThermoMist Automatic Humidifier
Customer Ratings: 3.5 stars

I have bought and installed this one myself. It has worked flawlessly for 3 years now. I have read a lot online about it as well as other humidifiers before choosing it.

It works by creating a very fine mist into the hot forced air. The mist evaporates almost instantly given the very small size of the water particles and the temperature and speed of the blown air. It is simply not going to go back down to the furnace.

The device is provided with a sensor that projects into the duct. It senses the temperature of the air, and opens the valve for water to flow when air reaches high enough temp. The device has a nob to change the sensitivity of the sensor, so you can set it to open early or late after the air starts to blow depending on level of desired moisture. The sensor will also shut water off when air temperature starts to decrease. Again the sensitivity can be changed by that nob.

If you are afraid that this device may damage your furnace as some have suggested, just decrease the sensitivity. It will open only when air temp is maximal, and shut with the beginning of temp decrease. I have played with the nob several times and watched how it changes the flow (light turns on and off to indicate water flow). I have also pulled out the nozzle and watched the mist formation to make sure it is still as fine as it should be. I can tell you that after 3 years of use, it still does produce a very fine mist as it did when I bought it. I didn't have to change the nozzle yet. However, the water here is of good quality, and doesn't have a lot of minerals (lake michigan). If you do have hard water, you'll need a filter to prevent nozzle malfunction, and dust formation.

Another important factor is water pressure. It has to be 50 or above for optimum function. In my house it is usually around 65. The higher pressure drives the water through the nozzle to produce the fine mist. without it, it will not be fine enough to evaporate quickly.

You can measure your house water pressure easily. Just go to any homedepot, lowes, menards, etc.. and buy a pressure gauge. It is fairly cheap (less than 10 $).

Also important, determine the humidity level using a hygrometer. Mine was less than 30% before installing Thermomist, and became and stayed at around 50% after using it. You can notice the difference in comfort also.

Overall, I have had nothing but good experience with this device. If installed properly, and adjusted accurately, it'll provide you with a long, reliable, and cheap whole house humidity. Compare that to the other pricey products out on the market, the maintenance they need, the cost of installation, and repair. I did. I found it a good choice.

I have been using this product to humidify the house for 10 years. I am very happy with it's operation. We do have hard water so it does require maintenance every year. I replace the nozzle, and the filter each year. Once I started doing this I had no problems with this unit. And I have never experienced any damage to my furnace which is serviced every year. The only complaint that I have is the valve which is included for the water source. This valve puts a small hole in the copper pipe to create the water source. After you have turned on and off this valve a few times it no longer shuts off the water source. So, now I have to shut off the water main to perform my service. This wouldn't be a problem except for the fact that I have a whole house water filter, and the media gets disturbed when I turn the mains back on. This leaves sediment in my faucets which is a problem. It would be best to figure out a different way to connect to the water source, or add an inline shutoff in the tubing.

I bought this item and had it professionally installed. The product is horrible, the 'mist' that it claims is enough to corrode my HVAC unit, short out circuitboards and cost me close to $800 in parts to fix my HVAC unit.

Given the choice between this and boiling water on my stovetop to humidify the place. I would go for the pot of water.

I am only giving it one star because I dont have an option to give it zero.

Honest reviews on ThermoMist Automatic Humidifier

I bought this device to replace the humidifier that I had which failed. I did not wish to deal with a pad-type humidifier which can breed bacteria and make a mess. This humidifier sprays a fine mist of water into the air duct when the furnace is running. Humidity level is adjustable by turning a screw.

I initially wrote this review as I was starting to do repairs caused by this product. Once started, the damage turned out to be much more extensive than anticipated. It cost me $500 in new ducting materials and three 12 hour days of my labor to repair what this product did to my HVAC system. I have updated this review based on that experience.

I have had one installed for three years and just ripped it out. I am also cleaning rust from and repainting the steel parts of my evaporator coil, and replacing the moldy insulation lining the evaporator case, replaced my fiberglass lined plenum and my metal plenums all of which were difficult and time consuming jobs. The problem is the Thermo-Mist water bleed stone sprays too much water into the ducts and they stay moist. This is especially true at the end of the cycle, when the furnace fan turns off and all that water is left hanging in the ducts with no place to go but to settle into the ducting and atop the evaporator coil. In the entire air system, the only things not damaged were the plastic flex duct, which did not provide a place for mold growth, but I did find small pools of stagnant water which I had to clean out from those. Fortunately the furnace was below the evaporator coil, as in most systems, and itself was spared, but I did have to clean out all the rust particles which had settled into it from the rusty plenum above. I still have on my schedule to clean out the rust particles from the blower fan housings where they also settled. Another day of my time doing clean out. A contractor installed humidifier is a good deal less expensive than a contractor replaced evaporator (evaporators contain refrigerant, impossible to change yourself unless you happen to have an EPA 608 permit). If you have one of these already, turn it off and disconnect the water line NOW, and remove it ASAP.

If I could give this product negative stars, I would gladly do so. It works, but at far too high a long term cost.

It is really small and only runs for about 4 hours if that before you have to fill it up with water again. The seller did not give any measurements of the product and it actually looked bigger than it was. I would not buy this again. Just not what I wanted and it was expensive for what you get.
