Review of ADR70A2G 70 pint dehumidifier - Euro Grey

I purchased a 70 pint Soleus by Gree dehumidifier from Lowes and it did not work. It froze up out of the box. I then went to Walmart and purchased a GE 65 pint dehumidifier and it worked less than a day. It froze up. Freezing up of the coils indicates a freon problem which in turn causes the coils of the unit to accumulate ice on the coils. This freezing should not happen to a new unit and indicates to me alack of quality control by the manufacturer.

I then opted to order a dehumidifier from the internet as I had limited choices at my local stores. I researched and found the Danby Product line in my searches. They appeared to receive solid reviews so I opted for this one that is badged under their Artic Aire line. I am very pleased with its performance from the start to now. I have a very damp basement and use it to keep the humidity level at 50%. It has worked flawlessly for almost a month at this writing.

The only drawbacks that some note are that it is a little noisy when running. This is because it has a fan and compressor (like your refrigerator or freezer) that run when is working. So it is going to make some noise but it is reasonably quiet to me. The second that some have written about is that the fan runs all the time in auto mode. The fan runs all the time to circulate the air so the unit's hygrometer can get an accurate moisture reading of the air so that it knows when to cycle the compressor on and off to maintain the preset humidity level. The hygrometer in the unit is accurate and gives the humidity readings on the display along with air temperature.

Have had more expensive units as well as cheaper units that both have not lasted well. This unit operates as god as or better than the more expensive units I have had. It by far outperforms the cheaper units I have had.

If I had to name one con for the item it would be that it does not have a condensate removal pump for getting rid of the water. This is not a big deal and I have an external pump that I use and just use the gravity drain port on the unit with a hose to the pump. Also, not everyone needs a pump and it would only increase the cost of the unit for no added benefit.

No more Danby products for me (ArcticAire is made by Danby).

This one proved to be defective after about a week of use. Went into defrost mode approx. every 15 20 minutes and never got humidity down to 50% (my setting). Basement temp. 70 degrees and supposed to be fine to much lower than that.

My last one (same model, called at the time Danby Premiere) lasted two and a half years....but didn't get used at all during the two winters or at night....only on-and-off in daytime during the other three seasons. That one replaced an exact model that was also defective upon purchase.

So...for me....two out of three defective out of the box and the third one dying without serious usage (compared to how long other brands have lasted us).

Too bad because I really like this style and its features.

I know it is titled cool mist, but why does it have to bee blowing our cool air in the winter. Sigh. That is not really a product flaw. However, I have to refill it twice a day and it is very, very loud, especailly if you have it on the high setting. My husband prefers I turn it off when we are in the room, and then the humidity drops, fast. Our bedroom is 200 square feet and it humidifies it fine, but in any larger rooms it doesn't work. Also, don;t spend more that $39.99 on this. Some sellers are trying to rip you off. I got mine at Target.

I love this little humidifier! It has to be filled about every 6-8 hours when on the high setting, but it does a WONDERFUL job of humidifying. My old humidifier had a gauge for humidity that had humidified air blowing straight on it. According to that gauge, this humidifier does a better job of humidifying the room from across the room than the old one did blowing straight on the gauge.

I live in Colorado where sometimes it seems like we have negative humidity. This little machine makes it comfortable to be inside our apartment, easier on the kids and my wife and I for breathing, and it doesn't have an expensive and unreliable filter/wick to change like our old Holmes unit did. To put it bluntly, this humidifier kicks our old humidifiers rear end. Plus it's about 1/3 the size and much MUCH quieter. It's also a lot higher in quality in both materials and construction.

Pros: Good Price... Quiet... Sturdy...Easy to fill tank...Absorption Sleeve(more on that later)...Big enough for small to medium size rooms...Built in Humidistat..Easy to clean..

Cons: Finding replaceable absorption sleeves was almost impossible.

The absorption sleeve is a great idea. It slides over the heating element and it makes the unit very easy to clean.. And it makes the unit much quieter than other humidifiers. Because of mineral build-up on the heating element with other humidifiers I've owned they would need to be fully cleaned after every 2-3 times of use. But with this Optimus most of the minerals builds up on the absorption sleeve, not the heating element.. I clean the sleeve every 2-3 times of use, which is a breeze. It just slides off and I clean it with running water, then slide it back on.. The heating element still needs to be fully cleaned, BUT not nearly as often as with other warm mist humidifier.. Because of the sleeve there is much less maintenance..

But damn, good luck finding sleeve replacements. And they probably will need to be replaced once a year or so..Amazon doesn't have them.. Nor does Optimus. Fortunately Optimus makes the same exact humidifier for Kenmore. And of course Kenmore/Sears doesn't have them either, BUT I found the sleeves on Ebay under the Kenmore part number, NOT the Optimus part number. A 3 pack for about $10.. So I'm all set for the next few years.

Anyway besides that this humidifier is top of the line. Easily worth the money.

I will admit that I was a bit dismayed at first when I set it up because it only worked for a few minutes and then the light for low water level came on even though it was full of water. I actually thought I have to send it back, but as a last resort I put it on a cookie sheet and it seems the surface I had it on was the problem (not level enough). Since then I have been very impressed, with a little practice I can get the humidity where I want it and the water will last for quite awhile. Also, maintenance on this thing is a breeze compared to other humidifiers I have owned. I am very happy and if I need a replacement I hope I can find one like this.

Honest reviews on Optimus U-32010 3.0 Gallon Warm Mist Humidifier with Wicking Vapor

I've used several humidifiers (2 different ultrasonics, another boiler, and an evaporative), and this is my favorite. I've been using it for about 2 months and it works great. It doesn't have the drawbacks of ultrasonic (water impurities are put into the air, low output, makes the ground around it wet, and short life), or evaporative (needs a fan, which is loud at any output other than very low, filter needs replacement and can grow mold), and it is better than the other boiler I used (this one has higher capacity, much quieter, and no need to add salt to the water). It uses more electricity than an ultrasonic, but it's being turned into heat which you'll need anyway. With this thing running and my bedroom door closed, I can keep the thermostat about 5 degrees lower than without it. The output is very good; it can turn at least 2 gallons of water into steam in 12 hours. I haven't found the humidistat to be useful. It uses a thick fibrous sleeve over the heating element to reduce the bubbling and gurgling noise, but the sleeve gets loaded with minerals. Of course this is much better than having those solids in the air as dust. I've been cleaning the sleeve with an CLR-type cleaner.

I feel like I read every review on every humidifiers before I ordered this one. They all had some good Feedback, and they all had a lot of Bad Feedback. I want the same thing everyone wants. One that works well for a long time with the more convenient features. Well, this one didn't seem to have any bad feedback. Although it didn't have much feedback at all so it must be relatively new to the market. I want to like it. What I do like. The water storage is a nice size. It works thru one night maybe two before refill. It's as easy and convenient to remove, refill, replace as it could possibly be. Very quiet operation with just an occasional water gurgle. I always run on maximum on speed and level. I also bought a cheap humidistat to monitor my results. I ended up moving the humidifier directly beside the head of my bed and the humidistat within 2 ft. The machine uses up the water, so it's putting it out. But I could never exceed 40% humidity on the gauge even with continuous operation. The Bad. I had to wedge a piece of plastic in the float safety switch to get the unit to even operate. The float prevents the unit from running if not level or out of water for safety. Idea is good. Operation No Good. Also used a big rubber band to hold the water tank and unit closer together so the other safety switch wouldn't prevent operation thinking water tank was removed. So....I can't recommend. I'm still trying to decide if I'm even going to keep it. But it does put the warm mist out quietly...........

Update..quit working and returned it

I rarely write reviews, but since this item didn't have any and we bought it recently as a new-baby humidifier, I thought I'd get the ball rolling with this one. We will use our humidifiers strictly for the baby, and although we've only been using this one for a week, I may update this review for a final verdict. After reading numerous other reviews (I'm aiming to pick up another one soon), I feel slightly more educated about the features that consumers might find more desirable in a humidifier.

What I like:

* It works. I wouldn't normally add this seemingly obvious comment as a plus, but after reading other reviews, it seemed worth mentioning. If it fails in the near future, I will update this comment.

* No filters or wicks necessary. I find this feature highly desirable no added costs.

* Ultrasonic technology makes this unit run silently. And I mean silently! It makes no significant noise. Perhaps with other technologies, the mist volume could be heavier and thus noisier, but the quiet nature of this unit is pleasant. Also, thanks to the ultrasonic tech, the vapor stream is virtually instantaneous when switched on, both on warm or cold. Granted, a minor point, but nice. Which brings me to another pleasant feature....

* Emits both warm or cold mist. And does so effortlessly. One of its 4 face buttons allows a quick and easy switch from warm to cold and back, and as mentioned above, the change is immediate.

* The H4600 has 3 variable spray options. Low spray is perhaps too low, but the option is there if you want it to run all day and night. There is also a dual headed mist nozzle which allows greater choice at aiming the mist, but I don't find this feature particularly useful since the mist spray isn't all that strong to begin with, but it's a nice addition, nonetheless.

* Silver Clean technology claims to fight mold and mildew in the water tank, allowing for healthier vapors and less cleaning. Too soon to judge this feature, but even if it works a little, it'll be helpful and it's better than not having it.

* Easy interface. The front panel has a simple 4 button operation with a lit display. I found this to be a welcome feature. One button is simply On or Off. Another is variable spray volume (low, medium, high) kind of like a fan speed. The third is to switch from cold mist or warm mist. And the last button is for the night light. That blue circle on the face of the unit is the night light. It's fairly bright, but blue, so it's not as bright as it might be otherwise. Since we use this for the baby's room, we like this feature. The lit display shows the volume of spray (in a too elaborate display of LEDs), the chosen hot or cold mist option, and an indicator for low water in the tank. (The humidifier turns off when tank is too empty)

What I don't like:

* It's a bottom filled tank, meaning you need to lift out the tank, unscrew the underside cap to fill it with water. Thankfully, there are little handles on both the top and underside of the tank, but I don't understand why humidifiers don't regularly feature a top filling portal. It would be nice to be able to add water with a pitcher poured in the top rather than removing the entire tank, filling it and replacing it. The tank is fairly generous at 2.4 gallons, but that makes the full tank over 16 lbs. when full. Okay for me, but not the wife. Also, and perhaps more egregious is that the output nozzles on top (where the mist comes out) are rounded and interfere with the tank laying flat on its back when being filled. You cannot lay this tank flat on its back to fill it so it must be held, or at least braced (unless I didn't realize that the output nozzles can be removed?)

* Cost. This is one of the most expensive room humidifiers I've seen. It does have a nice feature set, and so far, operates as advertised, so I think it's worth it, but the price may discourage potential buyers. My wife bought this one because it was expensive. She figured it HAD to be the best one. I'm not sure she was wrong about that.

NOTE: For some reason, the amazon page that displays this item lists the following as one of its features, "Digital display and clock with programmable run features". I believe this was a mistake taken from some other model that isn't being shown, although I've yet to see a humidifier with a digital clock on it. The picture amazon shows is the one we have. Well, I saw no such display or feature. There is no clock or digital display here, let alone programmable features. None that I saw, and I went through the manual. Perhaps this amazon model is one notch higher in this series of humidifiers and explains why it costs $20+ more than ours.

Conclusion: At first, I was disappointed with the design of the bottom-fill tank, and the poor placement of the output mist nozzles that I thought this was a deal breaker and planned on returning it. But then I came onto to Amazon to research and buy another model, and after rooting around the reviews, I realize that this model is actually pretty good. I don't think the tank lasts 120 hours (5 days!), but it lasts fairly long. So, aside from the tank filling procedure, everything else about this humidifier is quite nice. Recommended.

** UPDATE **

The rounded silver-colored output nozzle on the top of the unit can, indeed, be removed while refilling with water. That's helpful. It's still not perfect, as the tank doesn't lay flat on its back for refilling, but it helps. Also, the price of this unit has since gone up from when I wrote my review. We paid somewhere between $160-$180. Unfortunately, I don't recall for certain, but if you're thinking of buying this item, make sure you get the model with "Digital display and clock with programmable run features" as it states in the description. Ours didn't come with that feature, and it's the only thing that explains the price difference from what we paid. I can't say if the extra cost is worth it, but I hope that helps.

** Update II **

It's now January 2013 around 2+ years after purchase. The H4600 Ultrasonic Humidifier is still kicking, rather nicely, thank you. We use it primarily for the winter months. The internal basin of the base needs an occasional cleaning, but otherwise, all is well!

I have an electric PTAC heater/AC unit. It provides amazing heat in the winter and dries the room out like you wouldn't believe making it so I have to wake up in the middle of the night to turn the heater off, or open a window to get moisture in the room. My last humidifier was OK, but it just didn't do enough to combat the heater. I put this on last night for the first time (and last night was snowing weather). The setting was on low, warm mist. Wow I slept so well. I didn't wake up to turn the heater off, I didn't wake up in the middle of the night to drink from my bottle of water (I go through 16-24 ounces a night). I HIGHLY recommend this product for people with dry rooms. The fact that it has a 120 hour refill cycle is awesome! It's also quiet!

Obviously since it's new I can't comment on cleaning procedures

My only negative feedback is the lights on this thing cannot be turned off. It's in my bedroom and I have the LED lights hitting my wall. Considering they have a night-light button that turns some extra lights on they could have just made that button turn all the lights OFF. I will end up taping a piece of cloth to the front to block the light.

Minimal upkeep, as promised, but if you don't buy the additional demineralization cartridge, you may see some white dust on the machine and nearby furniture. Not as totally silent as I'd hoped... The 'glug-glug' sound is fairly intrusive in a quiet room (like a baby nursery). But overall, it's a good product. Only drawback for me is the lack of a hydrostat, so you can't set an maintain a desired humidity level.

These are the old fashioned charcoal filled filters. They are no longer sold by us so I expect they are no longer made. These blankets are awesome for swaddling. I used them in the summer without fear of overheating. My daughter slept through the night at 6 weeks because I was able to swaddle her so well (my older children-not so much).

The only thing they should put in the description is that these are the 42" x 42" size. The 47" x 47" works much better when your child gets older. We also bought the "Princess Posie" set and they are the 47" square ones.

Okay, I'm a simple momma. I try to avoid babies r us like the plague. I try to keep the "stuff" to a minimum. You need these. Yup. Diapers, car seat, place for kid to sleep, Aden and Anais blankets. I think they're ugly. Yup. Ugly. But, they're amazing. Sunny outside? Throw a blanket over the car seat. These are so breathable, you'll be glad to have them. Kiddo won't sleep? Swaddle him up in this! My 6 month old still loves to be swaddlehe fits in these. Breast feeding in the park? Yup! Works as a little shield too. Do you need a 20 dollar cover up? Nope! You've got these! Super cold? Swaddle him in one of these and then throw him in a sleep sack. Double bundle! Rawkin.

I love Aden + Anais swaddles and this is the third set I have. Be warned though that this particular line is smaller than the regular ones, measuring 44x44 vs 47x47. They also feel a little thinner as well.

Honest reviews on Aden By aden + anais Muslin Swaddle Blanket 4 Pack

They are Aden by Aden + Anais! Which is the brand created for Target.

These swaddles are smaller then the originals (they're 44x44 instead of 47x47) and they're thinner then the originals.

They're still great, they're large and soft and lovely, of course but you get what you pay for! These are less expensive, and therefore, the quality is less.

I'm mostly disappointed, as its not advertised as Aden by Aden + Anais, which is what they are!

This is great blanket. It's thin enough to swaddle a baby in summer. There are two sizes so be careful if you want the bigger one. I wanted to order the bigger one and when I received it, it was smaller. It still works but I like the bigger one better. I think the bigger one is 47x47. Even though this one is smaller, I'm still able to swaddle my 5 month old (soon to be 6 month) baby. Very recommended!
