This is a fantastic humidor. I've seen the same exact model selling for $70 at a fine smoke shop. It is well crafted. The finish is done well and looks very classy.

The inside is fully Spanish cedar lined, very important. The accessories are worthless, but they always are, even in more expensive humidors. You should use a digital hygrometer and humidity beads if you are serious about keeping your cigars well kept.

Says it fits up to 50 cigars, but I've got more than that in there right now, mostly smaller ones, but I'm guessing it would fit 50 churchills or probably 100 petite coronas at least.

excellent buy!

This humidor covers all the basics well. Nice tight seal, lined with Spanish cedar, nice looking, unbelievable price.

Here are the reasons NOT to buy this one, but none of these justify dinging the star rating.

1. You may, like me, find that you want a larger humidor. There's nothing wrong with this one, but I found that it filled up too quickly for my preferences.

2. A glass top is worth the extra expense. I find myself opening this one way too often, and a glass top would eliminate 90% of those openings.

That's about it. I use gel humidifier, and I believe a hygrometer is not necessary when using gel. I live in a very dry climate, and gel works great.

You will not find a better humidor at this price.

I actually bought two of these humidors. I bought one for a favorite uncle of mine that smokes cigars, and was having one of those big turning 70 parties. I was at his house one night and noticed that his was starting to fall apart. Knowing how cheap he is, I knew that he would never get a new one for himself, (nor would his family, for they are cheap too). I started out looking in cigar stores for a humidor but very quickly learned that it was definitely not the place to go if you don't want begin at a $100 minimum. This very same one I happen to find at a local smoke shop, and paid more for it there than it is currently being offered at here on Amazon. And I still feel I got my moneys worth. This humidor is very solidly built, and heavy. The mahogany finish is thick and very nicely polished. It is very rich and expensive looking, far beyond what it actually cost. My uncle was thrilled with it, and even told me that I shouldn't have spent so much on him. (Assuming of course that I got it at a cigar store and took a bath on it). I picked up one of those brass name plates at a local craft store and had his initials printed on it. Mounting it with brass screws was a cinch, and it made the box look even more stylish. He was most pleased...

I ended up returning to the smoke shop and buying one for myself to store both incense in, and to store my pipe tobacco pouches. I like filling my leather pipe pouches with tobacco and keeping them ready to go, rather than storing loose tobacco in a tin, or pipe humidor. This humidor not only looks classy and handsome on my desk, but it's also excellent at what its supposed to do. I drop about a tablespoon of water in the moistener about once a week, and my tobacco is always fresh and ready to burn. I also keep various incense bricks in the box for they burn slower and sweeter when kept from completely drying out.

I highly recommend this handsome, quality built humidor either for yourself, or as a gift for the tobacco user in your family. And I also recommend buying it here on Amazon, for the price is excellent. There is no question that there are far more expensive and quality humidors to be had, here on Amazon and at many other places. If you, or your intended are a serious cigar smoker who is used to nothing but the best as far as cigars or tobacco is concerned, perhaps hiking up your budget a smidgen and skipping this choice would be a good idea. On the other hand, if you're on a budget like most of us, but still enjoy a good cigar, or know someone that does, this humidor will make a very handsome gift, or a fine addition for your own pleasure. It is much more expensive looking than it actually will cost you, and in my opinion will last you for just as many years as some of the cigar store high end models...

Honest reviews on Quality Importers Capri 25-50 Cigar Humidor, Mahogany

This desktop humidor is a great product for it's price point. The finish is nice and the cedar inside is perfect. I noticed a little ding on the corner of the lid on the outside, but that must have been made before it was stained. I don't mind it since it gives the little humidor some character plus it wasn't like it was put there after the staining process.

I kept the round little humidfier the humidor came with along with purchasing a drymistat tube(I recommend everyone do the same if you order any humidor).. The humidfier is a magnetic version that isn't pre-attached. The metal plate that the humidifier is attached to (via magnet) has a sticky foam backing. I didn't much like the idea of sticking that in the humidor box (since I figured the humidity would eventually peel off the sticky part), so I boiled off the foam and glued the metal plate off-center on the inside of the lid. I know I won't need to worry about that ever coming off now (note: I didn't glue the humidifier itself to the inside, just it's magnetic plate). I will do the same with the magnetic plate of the digital hygrometer too (also recommend buying one of those, of course. This humidor box doesn't come with a hygrometer).

(Also, a side note, I realized that the picture above shows a round humidfier nicely pre-placed in the center of the lid. This was not the case with my unit. I had completely bare box insisde with the divider and slightly different looking humidifier placed loosely inside the box so I could place them anywhere I wanted. Just a note for those considering this humidor.)

I live in the very arid state of Montana, so it took me over a week to season this puppy. I use the sponge method (wipe down the inside, let sit for 24-36 hours and repeat if necessary.. I had to do that three times over) The seasoning directions that came with the humidor itself suggest the "shot glass method," but that would take me months with the arid conditions of this state. In the mean time I had my hygrometer calibrated. So now I have a perfectly seasoned humidor at 70% @ 70 degrees F... It's been holding that since I last wiped it down with the sponge.

The seal is good. I did the "drop the lid and make sure it doesn't slam shut method" and noticed the lid came to a resting postition before slowly setting. This means it's a good seal. Just as a precautionary measure, I wiped down the cedar edges that contact each other when closing a little more than the rest of the box during the seasoning process. So it's a nice, but not too tight fit.

I definitely recommend this to anyone interested in buying it. But as always, any company can put out the occasional bad product. So make sure the first thing you do when buying any desktop humidor is check the seal (if the seal sucks, exchange the humidor). It is extremely important that you have a good seal or otherwise you'll be going through a lot of distilled water and drymistat tubes or jars. Which would defeat the purpose of this quality, budget humidor.

This is a decent entry-level humidor, with a few of caveats from my experience. If you're looking to get a decent humidor which can fit a small-medium collection and not break the bank this might be a good choice.

Overall, this is a nice humidor if you get a well-made one, or are willing to work with it. I had to slightly modify the front part of my lid, as it was too loose and was allowing humidity to escape, causing a proper-seasoned & maintained humidor to lose humidity at a fast rate. Once I did this, the humidor works great, and now maintains a consistent humidity level. It appears others have similar experiences, although some do not require this modification. My guess is the quality of these humidors varies, and some may be getting humidors with a more snug lid, which means they work well without any modification. Knowing this, it is an easy fix. Still, I only rate it 3 stars since the humidor may not work right out of the box even withs easoning.

My experience is details below:

I purchased this humidor and waited a period of time to review it so I could accurately share my experience with it. After seasoning the wood, inserting appropriate gels and a calibrated hygrometer I was still unable to achieve a consistent level of humidity. Despite all my efforts the humidity level would conintinually drop down to the low 60s (and further if I left it), even with proper seasoning. After reading some of the reviews and other's experiences with this humidor I came to the conclusion that the lid was not sealing properly, allowing humidty to escape. The front portion of my humidor was a bit loose, and I was able to wiggle it back and forth with my hand. I took the liberty of moving it into a tighter position and loding it there. This lead to the lid being too tight, and ultimately made it too hard to open (since there's not a handle/knob). I changed my modification slightly, which allowed for a looser fit for the lid (although still tighter than it was initially) and it now works quite well. I can open and shut the lid without issue, but it doesn't leak humidity like it was doing before. As long as you are aware that you might need to do this to this humidor then I'd definitely recommend it, as it's nice looking and functions well if the lid seals properly.

Review of ADR70A2G 70 pint dehumidifier - Euro Grey

ADR70A2G 70 pint dehumidifier - Euro Grey

I purchased a 70 pint Soleus by Gree dehumidifier from Lowes and it did not work. It froze up out of the box. I then went to Walmart and purchased a GE 65 pint dehumidifier and it worked less than a day. It froze up. Freezing up of the coils indicates a freon problem which in turn causes the coils of the unit to accumulate ice on the coils. This freezing should not happen to a new unit and indicates to me alack of quality control by the manufacturer.

I then opted to order a dehumidifier from the internet as I had limited choices at my local stores. I researched and found the Danby Product line in my searches. They appeared to receive solid reviews so I opted for this one that is badged under their Artic Aire line. I am very pleased with its performance from the start to now. I have a very damp basement and use it to keep the humidity level at 50%. It has worked flawlessly for almost a month at this writing.

The only drawbacks that some note are that it is a little noisy when running. This is because it has a fan and compressor (like your refrigerator or freezer) that run when is working. So it is going to make some noise but it is reasonably quiet to me. The second that some have written about is that the fan runs all the time in auto mode. The fan runs all the time to circulate the air so the unit's hygrometer can get an accurate moisture reading of the air so that it knows when to cycle the compressor on and off to maintain the preset humidity level. The hygrometer in the unit is accurate and gives the humidity readings on the display along with air temperature.

Have had more expensive units as well as cheaper units that both have not lasted well. This unit operates as god as or better than the more expensive units I have had. It by far outperforms the cheaper units I have had.

If I had to name one con for the item it would be that it does not have a condensate removal pump for getting rid of the water. This is not a big deal and I have an external pump that I use and just use the gravity drain port on the unit with a hose to the pump. Also, not everyone needs a pump and it would only increase the cost of the unit for no added benefit.

No more Danby products for me (ArcticAire is made by Danby).

This one proved to be defective after about a week of use. Went into defrost mode approx. every 15 20 minutes and never got humidity down to 50% (my setting). Basement temp. 70 degrees and supposed to be fine to much lower than that.

My last one (same model, called at the time Danby Premiere) lasted two and a half years....but didn't get used at all during the two winters or at night....only on-and-off in daytime during the other three seasons. That one replaced an exact model that was also defective upon purchase.

So...for me....two out of three defective out of the box and the third one dying without serious usage (compared to how long other brands have lasted us).

Too bad because I really like this style and its features.

These things are an awesome addition to your humidor and they definitely get the job done! I couldn't be happier with the performance that these packets have provided me.

Just a note to prospective buyersMake sure you buy at least 2 packets. 1 for the humidor, and 1 more per 50 cigars you have. Exampleif you have 50 cigarsyou would buy a total of 2 packets. If you had 150 cigars, you would buy a total of 4 packets.

These things are easy, cheap, and they last 2-3 months. I highly recommend them. 5/5.

Whirlpool Humidistat Control 1168670 Review

Whirlpool Humidistat Control 1168670

The humidistat failed on my furnace humidifier just out of warranty. I checked for a replacement for the complete humidistat unit and found them to be very expensive. I did some checking on Amazon and found the humidistat only not the entire unit with the dial and cover. I ordered it and found with some simple wiring changes inside the cover I was back in business and it works well.

A very cost effective repair. The component looked to be the same manufacturer as the original factory part.

Installation instructions would be a welcome addition. The second time I had it in correctly to match the dial face.

Best Deals for Whirlpool Humidistat Control 1168670

Be careful as this control is direct acting meaning that turning the controller to the right causes the switch to make and turn on. When the humidity goes up the switch closes. It is for a DE humidifier not a humidifier. It does not tell you this in the information so as usual it did not work in my application. I was able to turn it around and make it work with a 24 volt AC IDEC relay which I already had. If you are making a direct replacement, be sure to double check the part number against the one you are replacing first before ordering. If you are not replacing the part directly, be aware of the differences in the word "humidistat" which could mean almost anything.

So just saying "humidistat control" don't tell you much unless you are able to cross reference the part numbers, which I was unable to do.

The good humidistats have a single pole double throw switch so they will operate either way. But not these cheapo OEM humidistat and they are cheap. The one I had just like it but reverse acting only lasted 18 months before the switch went out.

The water valve only pulls about 8 watts of power so I don't know why it failed. Yes this one works, but backwards for my application.

We bought this unit 6 months ago to try and cool our 2nd floor (3 rooms). I set the unit to 70 degrees and it would constantly freeze up (meaning, ice would form after about 1 hour). I noticed that the unit drew more air in than it blew into the room. Giving the unit the benefit, I sealed everything in the room as tight as I could (insulating, foaming, etc) and closed off the other 2 rooms. It managed to cool that one room (12 x 16) but still would ice over on days of 100+ degrees (unit set for 70 degrees).

Heat pump: I turned it on in mid October. Today (December 10th), all of the lights on the front panel were blinking on and off and the unit would not turn off using the control panel power button. I unplugged it from the wall and left it sit for an hour. Plugging it back in (an hour later), the unit would run but all of the lights were flashing on and off with no control over the power.I am awaiting customer service to contact me to see how they will react to the 1 year warranty. I will try to post what has happened to keep consumers informed.

This rather expensive portable air conditioner is of very low quality, and it's also very poorly designed.

First of all, the air conditioner leaks water from the base. I purchased one, it leaked, I returned it, and the replacement leaked as well.

In order for a portable air conditioner to work properly, it needs to have a two hose design so that one hose takes in outside air to cool the compressor and the second hose expels the hot air from the unit to outside your house. This air conditioner only has one hose that vents the hot exhaust through a window to the outside of your house. This mean it takes in cool air from inside your house and blows it outside to cool the compressor. This creates a partial vacuum inside the house, which results in warm, humid air being drawn in from the outside to fill the partial vacuum. The intake of warm humid air almost completely offsets the amount of cooling this unit is able to provide. Using this unit alone in one small bedroom, the temperature would often be above 80 degrees F on hot July and August days. That's not acceptable performance for such an expensive air conditioner in such a small room.

For a portable air conditioner to work efficiently, it needs to have two hoses: one for intake and one for exhaust.

Lastly, the compressor and fan on this unit are very very loud. It's difficult to watch to TV or carry on a conversation while the unit is running.

I do not recommend this product to anyone.

Best Deals for SoleusAir 13,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner, Dehumidifier

I bought this unit two days ago when the temperature in a recreation room (fully insulated, measuring 35' x 17' or 595 square feet. Note: unit is rated for 550 square feet) over my garage reached temperatures of 98 to 100 degrees in this latest heat wave in New Jersey. The reason I purchased the "Soleus Heat Pump Air Conditioner" is because I wanted the duality of an air conditioner and heater.

The set up was not difficult, the window assembly kit that fits in the window had to be cut down, as required in the instructions to fit the window. That took about 5 minutes to measure and cut. Total set up time was about 35 minutes. Of that time twenty minutes were spent trying to understand the directions.

The instructions are not the best. There is a hose for draining water from the unit that is not mentioned anywhere in the instructions. The unit has Control Panel and Digital Display that is easy to use and a Remote Controller. The unit also has a timer and louvers that will oscillate up and down to circulate the air. What is not mentioned in the general instructions but under the Remote instructions is that the timer and oscillator can only be accessed through the Remote. However, none of this is insurmountable. After a few minutes of flipping back and forth between pages it can be figured out.

The venting kit that comes with the unit should have supplied some gasket material to put between the exhaust panel and the window. Luckily I had some sponge rubber gasket to assure a good seal. Also, it is a tight fit between the window sill and exhaust hose that fits into the window kit.

After I had the unit up and running I insulated the flexible PVC exhaust hose as per the instructions. The hose becomes quite warm and the heat from it will radiate back into the room, so insulating it makes sense.

Today as I am writing this, July 22 2011 at 1 pm, it is 101 degrees outside in the shade and very humid. In the room over the garage "Soleus" unit is maintaining a constant 82 degrees with 54 percent humidity. I consider that good, the main part of my home has central air set at 72 degrees and it is struggling to maintain the temperature at 74 degrees.

I consider the "Soleus" unit to be working pretty good for a portable air conditioner with extremely high temperature outside. I expect better results when the temperature gets down to the low 90's where it is more normal for summer here.

Honest reviews on SoleusAir 13,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner, Dehumidifier

Seems to work adequately as an air conditioner. I thought I might not need to, or want to run our old dehumidifier. I purchased the LX-130D to use in the basement and expected that it would work even better at removing moisture than the old dehumidifier. The old stand alone dehumidifier runs for a fraction of the time to achieve the same level of de-humidification. The air conditioner and heater work well but are not super powerful.

I bought this unit and it lasted though the summer. When I went to turn it on the next summer it didn't work. Now the warranty is over. I took it into Sear's for repair to find out it had a hole in the condenser. Sears was unable to get the part from Soleus Air. I called Soleus Air direct and they informed me that I could ship them the unit as my cost and they would diagnos the problem at $45 and hour then tell me what it would cost to fix. I told them I already new it was the condenser. I just need to know how much it would cost to replace the condenser to see if it was worth it to send the unit. They refused to give me the information. I would have to do it their way or no way. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. 1st, it does not last. 2nd, really bad customer service. This unit is well made. A true German ingenuity. I love the fact that I don't have to deal with filters. No filters means I don't have to make a trip and pay for filters, I don't have to change them and I don't have to worry that if I forget to change the filter in a timely fashion, the unit will not work effectively. I just fill it with water and don't even have to worry about the water levels. If I forget to refill it, it'll shut down on its own. It is simply perfect!
