Review of ADR70A2G 70 pint dehumidifier - Euro Grey

I purchased a 70 pint Soleus by Gree dehumidifier from Lowes and it did not work. It froze up out of the box. I then went to Walmart and purchased a GE 65 pint dehumidifier and it worked less than a day. It froze up. Freezing up of the coils indicates a freon problem which in turn causes the coils of the unit to accumulate ice on the coils. This freezing should not happen to a new unit and indicates to me alack of quality control by the manufacturer.

I then opted to order a dehumidifier from the internet as I had limited choices at my local stores. I researched and found the Danby Product line in my searches. They appeared to receive solid reviews so I opted for this one that is badged under their Artic Aire line. I am very pleased with its performance from the start to now. I have a very damp basement and use it to keep the humidity level at 50%. It has worked flawlessly for almost a month at this writing.

The only drawbacks that some note are that it is a little noisy when running. This is because it has a fan and compressor (like your refrigerator or freezer) that run when is working. So it is going to make some noise but it is reasonably quiet to me. The second that some have written about is that the fan runs all the time in auto mode. The fan runs all the time to circulate the air so the unit's hygrometer can get an accurate moisture reading of the air so that it knows when to cycle the compressor on and off to maintain the preset humidity level.The hygrometer in the unit is accurate and gives the humidity readings on the display along with air temperature.

Have had more expensive units as well as cheaper units that both have not lasted well. This unit operates as god as or better than the more expensive units I have had. It by far outperforms the cheaper units I have had.

If I had to name one con for the item it would be that it does not have a condensate removal pump for getting rid of the water. This is not a big deal and I have an external pump that I use and just use the gravity drain port on the unit with a hose to the pump. Also, not everyone needs a pump and it would only increase the cost of the unit for no added benefit.

No more Danby products for me (ArcticAire is made by Danby).

This one proved to be defective after about a week of use. Went into defrost mode approx. every 15 20 minutes and never got humidity down to 50% (my setting). Basement temp. 70 degrees and supposed to be fine to much lower than that.

My last one (same model, called at the time Danby Premiere) lasted two and a half years....but didn't get used at all during the two winters or at night....only on-and-off in daytime during the other three seasons. That one replaced an exact model that was also defective upon purchase.

So...for me....two out of three defective out of the box and the third one dying without serious usage (compared to how long other brands have lasted us).

Too bad because I really like this style and its features.

This hangs on the back of the Essick/Bemis unit. It WILL cut down on the amount of dust and crud entering the back of the unit and contaminating the saturated wick that is used to humidify. The cleaner and better quality the wick unit (1041) is, the better the unit will humidify.

It's not designed to be like a vacuum cleaner and suck particulate matter out of the air, but it WILL prevent air-borne dust, smoke and pollen from contaminating the wick unit and for that reason alone it's worthwhile.

Additional: If you have seasonal allergies like I do, I found running the humidifier in the spring helps lessen them. Now while another reviewer said they found no cat hair on the filter, compare the relative size of the pollen or dander allergen to a cat hair. Frankly I don't have cat hairs flying around a foot or more above the floor, either... I reviewed this with my Allergist. He said the allergen is cat DANDER not cat hair, and it is at least 1,000th the size of a cat hair if not smaller. That's what this filter is designed to trap. Smoke, pollen, etc. It also reduces ODOR as a carbon filter is part of this, as well.

Yes, this is an 'optional' AIR PURIFYING FILTER per the manufacturer, but if you suffer from seasonal allergies, then you'll know why this is important...

As a hint, change your wick element OFTEN, but one of these will last you all season... I buy one on these each heating season and it lasts me easily five or six months into the spring and I could probably make it last even longer if need be...

This is supposed to filter the air on an Essick Air H-series console humidifier. In fact, it actually blocks the air to the unit and makes it much less efficient. It's an optional attachment to the unit and is completely unnecessary unless you live in a really filthy environment -like maybe in a coal mine. Listen, we have three cats and I never saw any cat hair in the filter. The filter never got dirty. Does this tell you something?

i like the concept this accessory gave our whole house humidifier by using the charcoal filter to help clean the air before being humidified. the bad side is this filter also restricted the air so the humidifier had to run longer to maintain the same humidity compaired to not using this filter.

I have always used these and thought I had one for this year's winter season. When I found I didn't, I was about to order one until I saw the price. WAAYYY too expensive for the purpose. I'm sure they do what they're supposed to, but what are they solid platinum? I will listen to the reviewer who used a furnace filter and duct tape. I can't believe I ever used these unless they were much cheaper when I used them before.

Spend your twenty bucks on a replacement wick, this is ridiculous.

I recently wrote a review for the humidifier that this is installed on but failed to mention that this air filter doesn't not fit tightly enough when installed to stop air leakage around the edges. The filter looks like IT will work but I have to question the viability of the two working together given the significant gaps around the edges.

Just received my Ci-Gel Clear Jar Humidifier. Having never used such an item, I was very disappointed that there were no directions in the package. I have no idea whether to use it as is or fill with distilled water. I've been searching the web for suggestions but so far no luck. This may be a very good product but without directions it is useless to me.

amazon listing says "re-use these again and again by just adding distilled water!"; received item says "refill with Xikar Propylene Glycol Solution" (which costs $12 shipped, for an 8-oz bottle).

amazon listing says "3 ounce capacity"; received item is marked "2 fl oz." this may be a discrepancy between ounces (weight) and fluid ounces (volume), but it does make this item appear to be 50% larger than competing items, which are all advertised as "2 oz".

if i'd known this, i would have ordered the item with Ci-Gel in the title, for $3 less.

i think i will simply refill with distilled water anyway, and when it stops maintaining proper humidity, replace it with the (more expensive) heartfelt beads, which appear to be very popular with cigar smokers.

I ordered cigar caddy humidor canisters (Ci-Gel Cigar Humidor Humidifier Gel, 2-Ounce) at 6.49 a piece i ordered 4 and was charged for 4 at this price! my package arrived today with a different cheaper brand with blue lid at 2.49 a piece a total of 4. the package looks cheap and not of good quality :((
