I order these to try to save a little money, and received filters that were made by Honeywell, not Holmes. Not only did they look nothing like the filter in the picture (they were made of some kind of blue fiber material), they do not perform properly! With these filters, the unit emits maybe 40-50% of the humidity that it always has with every other filter I've ever purchased. And they emitted a strange smell for the first few days.

After experimenting with this product because this one was cheaper, I returned them, because they render my humidifier useless. The vendor did refund my purchase price and shipping cost promptly, but I of course had to pay to ship them back to them.

I have used this brand and model number filter for 3 years. It works well for the winter season. At the end of the season I throw it away and purchase a new one for the next year. At the end of the season, the filter shows how it collects the contaminants of the water.

I ordered four of these direct from Holmes. Together, they lasted a total of 3 weeks. I have the HM1895 humidifier with the filter gauge. The first one lasted a week. The second one lasted a week and a half. The third one lasted 2 days. The fourth didn't work at all, the gauge never got above the "change" line.

I've since tried a universal third-party filter BestAir Wick filter fits Holmes H65-ID. This worked for a month, which is the expected life.

It seems like the stores sell humidifiers but only carry the filters for that model for a few months and then if you want to change the filter you can't find them anywhere. I'm do glad we were able to buy our filters online. They work perfectly.

It does what it says it's suppose to and it's easy to clean and fill but it leaks very bad when you get to the low water indicator and the light turns from blue to a orange. You are suppose to refill it when it gets to that point but when you are asleep all it does is make alot of water under whatever it's on top of. We ended up putting a thick bath towel under it when we run it at night to soak up the moisture. It only runs for about 7hrs on the high setting but the ad said it would run for like 24hrs, so don't believe everything that is posted. We do wake up less congested and it does kindof heat the room up because the hot steam that it puts out but I think next time we will look for one that doesn't have a leaking problem.

Product update 1/5/13 Sanyo has discontinued this air filtration system but Panasonic bought them and has a replacement filter for it that FrankieBoy was kind enough to post links to in the Comment section of this review. He has been kind enough to post a link on page 6 of the comments here. The filter is model #6161580870. Hopefully Amazon will begin to carry this soon because the price is pretty steep and Amazon always seems to do better. I've been vacuuming my filter with a good strong vacuum cleaner and that seems to work so far but a replacement will be needed in the future. I love the air cleaner and want to continue using it. The thing I like best about the Sanyo Air Washer Purification System (besides that it does a great job of purifying the air) is that it has a nice sleek look to it and doesn't detract from the room decor. It has a handle built into the top, making it easy to carry (15.9 lbs.) and it's pretty quiet as air purifiers go. It has a 4-stage HEPA filter removes 99.97% of airborne particles and allergens. The other thing I really like is that the filters can be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner and are supposed to last for about 4 years. (You'd want to use a HEPA vacuum cleaner or you'd defeat the purpose.) I called customer service to ask about the price of replacement filters and they told me the suggested retail price is $69. That's pretty much in line with other filters I've researched. The customer service people were very helpful in answering questions about the unit which I count as a big plus.

I don't know if the electrolyzed water technology is just a gimmick or not, but the unit does a good job of cleaning the air and removing odors from any room that I place it in. There are several articles on the internet about electrolyzed water technology and electrolyzed water being used to sanitize water and possibly use it to kill bacteria in a number of applications including using it as a non-toxic way to clean fruits and vegetables in the food industry. It would make sense that it could be useful to kill bacteria and viruses in the air. With pets and all their dander, not to mention all the pollen and dust in the air this time of year, it gets a real workout around here. I hope that we find that we have fewer colds in the winter.

Just a few details that I didn't include in the video: I measured the watts that the unit takes at the low, medium and high speeds with a P3 International P4400 Kill A Watt Electricity Usage Monitor device. At low speed it uses 4 8 watts (the higher number when it's emitting the electrolyzed water. You'll see that in the video.), on medium 13 17 watts, on high 57 63 watts, and if you use the "power" setting, 63 65 watts. This compares favorably with other air cleaners that I've used in the past or use now and it seems to work more quickly at removing odors.

BTW, another reviewer had mentioned that the "Device contains a chemical known to the state of Caifornia to cause cancer, birth defects, etc." Living in California I'm used to seeing these warnings on just about every piece of electrical equipment I buy due to the "Prop 65" laws here. Nonetheless, when I called Sanyo, I asked about this warning and what part of the unit had the chemical. As I expected it is the lead in the electrical cord connection, the same as my computer. When handling electrical cords it's always a good idea to wash your hands afterward.

I hope the video is useful. It's difficult to tell from a small photo what the unit looks like and I wanted you to have a better idea of how it worked and what it sounds like.

I have been using this product for over 3 weeks. All members of my family have allergy. We live in Redmond, WA. This product works as advertised.

Pros:

* Removes odor out especially when we had Asian food in the room with this air purifier

* No more foul mold smell in the room (it moist and humid during winter)

* Operates quietly

Like to see improved in the product:

* Water tank is small and requires refill once a week (I run the air purifier on medium 8 hrs a day x 7 days a week)

There is an odor sensor where you can set it to low, med, high. Its neat because it apparently can detect most bodily odors when your near by and I tried, it turned itself on to cleanse it. 5 stars!

The filter supposed to last 5 years in a normal environment. Filter can last longer since it can be vacuumed. Replacement part is maybe on the high side, but after 5 years who knows what will come out next.

I set mine to Auto, It has a 1, 2, 8 hour timer. I don't like timers so mine is constantly on.

The Fan Speed can be set to Auto, Low, Med, High. The Med and High makes noise, however I have it set on auto. When I plugged it, it starts off Med but after 30min or so it has been low ever since. Yay clean room.

The Humidifier tells you if you need to change the filter or add water. Neat! If required there is a Power Mist setting where it can blast continuous mist if your in dire of humidity. BTW the water is electrolyzed?!? so basically the mist is a clean mist!!! Good Job!

The size and the style is just great! It doesn"t feel cheap and it matches my living room.

So In my opinion I give it 5 stars! Yay!

I give it 5 stars, I have left the thing on for a month now, I have less dust and a clean neutral smell. I don"t like chemical cover up or that candle stuff so it works for me!

So, I'm a college student who spent this winter in an old campus house with an overactive heating system. Our bedroom was so dry that our door shrunk and we regularly woke up with cracked lips and nosebleeds. We needed a humidifier, but didn't want to spend big bucks on one that might only get used for one season. The kids' humidifiers are cheaper than the more powerful "adult" ones, and this one got good reviews, so we got him and named him Flippy.

He's pretty good at his job. We turn him on full-blast at night and he puffs out clouds of cool steam until morning. It's not enough that the room is humid, or even normal moisture levels (it's a REALLY dry room!), but he definitely does help. If you fill him up, he'll easily run for a whole night, and you can adjust the amount of moisture he puts out. It's enough to make a difference in a small-to-average bedroom, but might not be practical for a large room.

It took a few tries for him to really "warm up," so to speak, and really produce that big, visible stream of cloud, but after a few days, he got the hang of it. We like him. The only problem we had was that he has a bright orange LED on the side to tell you when he's on, and it was a little bright for us, so we had to cover it up in order to sleep. He isn't loud, and the little humming noise he makes is just a little white noise that doesn't disturb sleep or anything. I could see it being irritating if we kept it on day and night, while we were trying to talk and study, but it's fine for the night. We have a couple fans going in the room anyway (Did I mention our heater?), so it's not even the loudest thing in the room. It's quieter than a desk fan.

We just fill him with tap water, so he's developed some hard water buildup (I think?) that I'm not sure it's practical to try and clean, so that's too bad. It's not causing problems, though, so we don't particularly care. I'm sure you can be fancy and use distilled water or softened water or something if you're worried about a little white buildup forming.

I think he'd be fine for a child's room, or even immature young adults like ourselves. We don't need him anymore (not so dry now that it's Midwestern summer), but I'm keeping him around in case I ever catch bronchitis or something. Or for next winter. I think he'll be handy. And he's very cute, especially when he's on and the cloud is billowing out from his blowhole. I recommend Flippy if you need a little extra humidity for a smallish room.

We bought this humidifier and were really happy with it for five weeks. Then, one night, my wife noticed a burning smell in my son's room. Was it his new night light? Nope. The space heater? No again.

It was this cute little humidifier. It's cute, at least, until it emits a burning smell. One night later, I turned it on to see if it was any better and it was not just giving off a burning smell, but actually smoking, too.

Needless to say, we don't use it any more.

My son loves this humidifer! It helps that he picked it out with me on amazon (he's 2 1/2 and very bossy). It's smaller than the Crane Cow we had before, so we fill it every other day. But because it's smaller it doesn't take up as much room, it hasn't spilled or leaked, it's very stable, the hum is pretty generic white noise expected of any humidier but it actually glugs less than our old one did, it humidifies well in a good arc, and did I mention my son loves it? He gets excited about us filling it "dolphin is thirsty!" and he loves turning it on and off himself. Oh, and yes, that little indicator light is one of the brightest lights I've ever seenbut my son decided he really likes the light, and that it's "supposed" to be a night light. So anywaythanks!

Well like everyone else says, this product is ok for temperature but leaves a lot to be desired for reading humidity. This being said, with a few mods it works fine as a hygrometer. I added a few more holes with a drill approx 1/8" and now it actually reads humidity quite well. I added a total of 13 holes around the unit, 5 on each side and 3 on the bottom. Now it adjusts the humidity reading every 15-20 seconds and levels out in about 10 minutes and actually reads the right humidity when compared to my dial hygrometer. So this tells me that there is a design flaw with the amount of air flow allowed by the factory vents, thus not allowing the unit to process the volume of air needed to make accurate readings.

ok had it a week and like another reviewer stated the LCD readout has gone blank in a few spots. not dim just not there anymore. Its junk. Off to buy another Hygrometer from someone else.

Bought 2 of these the other day. Opened them up, put in the battery, and they were ready to go. I bought two of them so I could install them in each of my childrens bedrooms so I could tell the range of the temp and humidity each of thier rooms. First I put these next to my house thermostat which has a current temp and humidity displayed. After 1 hour of being in the same room right next to the thermostat both of the Cheney units read exactly what the temp was, and the humidity on both units were the reading the exact same (7 units higher) then my house thermostat. I don't know if my house unit is accurate or not but at least the two Cheney units read the same for temp & humidity. If they read differently than each other than I would say they weren't accurate but since both read the exact same things I give them two thumbs up and agree this is a great buy, especially since it displays the current temp and humidity and displays the daily low/high for each. Great Product!!!! Small, lightweight, has magnet on back to stick to fridge or can use clip to attach it to belt, or anything it can clip to. It also can be placed on a desk, shelf, etc but standing it on end with the attached stilt.

I bought this same hygrometer packaged as Acu-Rite brand from a Mill's Fleet Farm for $9.99 more than a year ago. I've always had it turned on since then, and I've never had to change the batteries. I tested the unit not long after I bought it and again just yesterday (using the NaCl and distilled water test and the Boveda humidipak kit) and after 8 hours the display stabilized at 75% just as it should. I also made a Potassium Carbonate test and it was stable at 43% after ~18hrs. This is great to see from a $10 unit. I've traveled with this product and it has held up through that as well. I've never tested the accuracy of the thermometer, as I mainly bought this instrument to read RH in an instrument (guitar) room, and guitar cases. I've also owned "The Weather Channel" brand weather stations with built in hygrometers that were more than twice the cost of this product, and found them to read more than 10% off when testing.

Maybe I got lucky and happened to buy a accurate unit, but from my experience with this I highly recommend buying yourself one.

PS I have since had relatives buy these units and they were not as accurate as the one I bought, so I guess I really might have just been lucky. The other units seemed to report higher humidity then existed (when RH was 40%, they showed +3-5%, which is considerable). The plus side is that they don't seem to get worse over time, so if you know the unit to be off by a certain amount, you should be able to predict the actual RH.

We use a number of these in our cabinet shop and at job sites. Despite other's complaints about accuracy, we have found them to be quite reasonable, especially considering their low price. If you put ours side by side they will all stabilize to within a few percent of each other. They are small, yet the display is very easy to read. They use only a single AA battery. The only down side is that the 24 hour high and low display is not resettable without taking out the battery, but that's only a down side if you are looking for min/max in a time frame other than 24 hours.

I have given these away to clients when I do an energy audit on their home. Before I give them out, I usually set several up at a time and let them stabilize on a table in my home. I have found that most of them read the same, so they are usually accurate, in spite of the fact that the accuracy for RH is listed as +/-5%. Then I discovered that they do not read RH below 20%. I also have discovered that none of the RH meters on the market, costing less than about $80, will read RH below 20%, which is not good if you have a drafty house that has very low RH in winter.

Medium sized humidors are hard to find and usually quite pricey, so I thought this larger humidor would be a great option for me instead of running two 125 count humidors, especially given the one glowing review on Amazon it has. First and probably most importantly, this humidor simply doesn't have the excellent seal the other review states it has. The seal at the doors is very shallow. The doors are held together by small earth magnets, which keep it probably about 97% sealed, but that 3% means my Cigar Oasis is not coming on 3-4 times a day as it should, but at least once an hour because of the shallow seal. My other concern is that very little of the inside is solid Spanish cedar: it is lined (and not even completely) with cedar veneer. While some veneer is certainly to be expected, I fear the humidity is going to swell some of the inside over time given lack of solid wood, too thin cheap cedar veneer, exposed manufactured wood (mdf?) on bottom of drawers.

My wife and I had never changed the old pad in our whole house humidifier. I figured it was time, given the crusty accumulations on our old pad. Before we changed the pad, I have to say that the efficiency of our humidifier wasn't as good. It seemed to take days for the humidity in the house to go up when I would adjust the humidistat. After changing the old pad, the efficiency was noticeably better right away. Adjustments resulted in changes to our household humidity in less than 24 hours. If you are like me and you are wondering how much of your pad actually gets replaced, you will find that the pad in your humidifier actually has a black frame that comes apart. This is the frame that has the water line attached to it. Once you open the frame, you can discard the mesh metal pad and insert this new pad. It will fit perfectly. I'll be coming back for more of these in the future, and I would highly recommend them to anybody.

I can't remember if this was in the description or not, but it awesomely changes colors (LED) while vaporizing. You can also set it to stay on a solid color, if you want. Or you can just turn the diffuser on but keep the LED lights off. I've only had it for two days, and I plan on using it for several hours every day so I will update if it burns out or something by the end of the year. So far, it's great!! I really love it. The fragrance comes off strong. I will not that this is the first electric diffuser I've ever had, before I always used the tealight candle under the ceramic bowl thing which you fill with water and add some essential oils ... you know the thing. That's crap compared to one of these, hehe. The fragrance is so much stronger fresher, better. Way better. If you love diffusing essential oils, but aren't looking to spend a lot on a diffuser (I'm on a budget, people) but obviously want something that WORKS, try this out!! It was the most affordable one with not crappy reviews! Technically, it had no reviews, I'm writing the first one so I figured the chances of success were higher, LOL. OKthe only major annoyance I've had so far with this (and maybe it's because I've never used a plug-in one before) was figuring out WHERE to PUT the essential oils!!!!!!!!!!!!! The instructions were so annoying on this part, and I probably took it too literally, but that was, yeah, ANNOYING. For anyone else who might have the problem of figuring this out, I have been adding about 2-5 drops (depending on the intensity of the oil) to the very tip top of the diffuser (after taking off the "LED part)". Don't add it to the little side groove like the instructions say...I don't know what they're talking about, makes no sense, and this doesn't even work to diffuse the oil! Also, you should know that this states that you can only use 100% PURE, ESSENTIAL OILS FOR THIS! Which was MY intent, so that's good. If you're planning on using fragrance oils or something with other "components" added in... DON'T! Cause it may break this, as was made very clear by the manufacturer. :)

Really not a bad unit for the price! I have used this diffuser almost daily for over a month and have been pleasantly surprised. I would say this product is best for small areas like a bathroom or bedroom, but I have used it even in larger spaces with good results. The lights are a nice feature because they can be set to Off, stay static on one color, or rotate through all of the colors. Makes a great nightlight with the benefit of aromatherapy, too!

I found this unit to be small but is perfect for my bathroom. I diffuse various essential oils while dressing for the morning. The lights are a nice touch but I dont really use them. The unit is quiet and inconspicuous. Very good value for the price.
