I bought a PerfectAire 30 pint dehumidifier about a month ago and was very pleased with it's performance, so much so that I decided to order a larger unit to try and get the humidity in my basement under control. The 30 pint unit works like a charm, it took my humidity level from 55% down to 35% and it removes at least 30 pints per day. The 65pint unit hardly works at all. it took my humidity level from 70% down to 62% and removes about 15-20 pints per day. I would love to return this unit but the shipping will cost more than $100 to return it(non refundable). I can't fault the seller, they processed and shipped it very fast. This unit seems to spend more time "defrosting" than it does dehumidifing 1/2 the time when i check on it it is giving me a P1 code (defrosting) so I unplugged it last night while it was in P1, I plugged it back in this morning and it was still in P1, don't know how it could need a defrost cycle when it was not running all night. Either this unit is a lemon or the whole series is no good. If you do decide to take a gamble I would suggest trying to find it at a local hardware store so if you do need to return it you won't get nailed for the extra shipping.

Bought this from another site after seeing some good reviews of this company's other products. Price was right, free shipping, so I took a chance.

The unit worked very well: kept our our whole house nice and dry in Florida. It is noisier than average, and something of a power hog, but ran just fine. Maintained it just like the manual says. Then the compressor refused to shut off, even when it shouldn't, even when you powered it down manually. If it was plugged in, the compressor was running.

Naturally this occurred 6 months after the warranty expired.

this belt is made out of a synthetic material like polyester. the weave is kind of tight and not alot of air moves through it. the original belts made out of urethane had a much larger mesh and worked alot better than these do. they do at least get the humidifier back operating.

Because the humidifier filter had essentially melted, the water was not draining down the tube as it should. Instead it was running down the side of the duct work. Will not buy this again.

Essick Air Products manufactures and markets the HDC-12 MoistAir humidifier filter. Essick also is a manufacturer of humidifiers. A handfull of Kenmore humidifiers also recommend and use this filter, Kenmore No. 14911. The two part numbers will give you the same filter which is a "paper-pleated type'. Anything other, such as the spongy foam type offered by other manufacturers, is *inferior* in performance. Beware of misleading info fooling you out of the real McCoy. The foam type filters or wicks may be obtained for half the price but require replacement 3 times as often if not more.

These filters are not great by any means, but they do what they are supposed to do. Of course, we've found that it is very important to use the right bacteriostat with the filters. We bought some Sunbeam bacteriostat water treatment for humidifiers at our local Home Depot, and I swear that they just put purified water in the bottle! Once we started buying the Essick Air bacteriostat water treatment, our filters lasted much longer, and didn't get that musty/fishy smell to them.

I too have regrettably bought the honeycomb mesh type filter that is sold as the "replacement" filter for my Essick cabinet humidifier (at the big box hardware stores )which recommends use of the HDC 12 paper filter sold here. The honeycomb mesh ones are worthless. They make the humidifier run all the time and hardly any water goes into the air. They should not even be allowed to be sold. The paper ones like I am buying here work nicely and I found if I use a little Pine Sol type cleaner 1-2 oz per water canister fillup, I do not get the mold in the tanks or on the filters and the water does not get nasty after a humidifying season. It also gives a nice pine smell in the air and is a cheap alternative to bacteriostatic water treatments. I go thru a couple of bottles of Pine Sol generic each winter which I purchase at the dollar store.

This year Sears 14911 and this product are not the same as that of prior years. They are about 1/2" shorter, much lighter paper weight, and most important have plastic ribs down both sides not one. They will not flex and fit in my humidifier.

I have returned them. I strongly suggest you avoid them if you need to curve the filter to fit in your humidifier.

I was not really happy with these humidifiers. I think they are rated too high. As in the small one is rated for humidors up to 30 cigars and the one rated for up to 100 cigars had trouble keeping humidity to 65% +(maybe 1/2 that amount?). and they seem to not work very well with the recommended distilled water. They seemed to do OK with 50/50 mix of glycol, but at the price seemed to defeat the purpose for buying these in the first place! You be better off sticking with the old style foam humidifiers, or step up and get an electric one. Which is what I did with my large humidor.

This humidifier works great for small humidors (25 ct or less). I've had no issues & my cigars remained at perfect temp/pH level. I would recommend this to anyone.

I've had multiple humidifiers for my humidor and had constant trouble keeping the optimum humidity level. The paradigm system has made it easy to keep my cigars perfectly preserved. Now, when I order cigars online, I throw them in the humidor for a few weeks before smoking them. I can definitely taste the difference. I would suggest you make sure to buy the right size for your humidor though. I bought the smaller paradigm originally and had trouble keeping the humidor at the correct humidity level. However, I've had no problems since I bought the larger model.

Purchased this from my local Canadian Tire store in Canada and to make a long story short, the unit stopped working within 15 minutes.

I followed the directions EXACTLY from the manual and when I came back to check on the unit it had turned off. I realize that this machine has an auto shut off when the desired humidity is reached but this wasn't the case because when I tried to turn the unit back on manually, it wouldn't start back up.

I thought at first I might have tripped a fuse but this wasn't the case either as I tried plugging it at another electrical outlet in my house. Still wouldn't work. I'm returning this as it was clearly defective.

Looking for another humidifier from another company right now. I guess you get what you pay for.

The title is for the other reviews for this product. I've owned this humidifier for since 2007 and it works like a champ! Granted this last season I noticed it is a little louder, but overall still quite and doesn't bother me. I always have used the extra Protec cartridge to drop into the tank...I dunno if that has anything to do with the overall reliability. I don't think it does, but it definitely helps to prolong the filter and I don't have to purchase one as often.

I loved the unit. I bought it because it's easy to fill and replace filters. At the end of the second season the motor died. I would expect a longer life from the product running only 8 Hrs/day for winter months. Did a great job while it worked.

This BestAir pad solved a problem that was making me an unhappy Aprilaire user.

My Aprilaire system could not keep up with my home's humidity needs, but it sure did run through the hot water. With this pad, there's much more moisture transfer to the air supply. Now instead of most of the hot water going down the drain, it goes into the air (where I want it to go).

I won't even buy the standard water pad anymore. This BestAir version is the only one I will buy. In fact, if somebody gave me a stack of standard pads I would throw those away and still buy this one. The savings in hot water cost alone would justify that. With the BestAir, I get the increased comfort I am really after.

I have verified the huge performance increase by using humidity meters. Of course, the numbers vary with the amount of heating required. But here's an example of a sort of side by side test I ran in 2010. The outside temperature was consistently around zero degrees for several days (with the forecast, I saw this coming so decided to run tests).

I have a Trane heat pump system, with variable speed blower to provide a constant (but minimal) flow of air when heat or AC isn't running. This constant flow means my Aprilaire is always running also (I removed Aprilaire's original controls, which essentially render the system pointless, and installed my own system and yes I am an engineer with a significant controls background).

With the standard pad, the humidity dropped to 37%. That is well below the recommended minimum. Even the morning warmup furnace blast, which gives you the best humidification with this system, couldn't nudge it much past 40.

I changed to the BestAir before going to bed, noting a humidity of 38%. I got up just before the furnace kicked on and the humidity was at 41%. After the initial warmup blast, the humidity was 45%. It dropped back to 42% under normal low demand.

Then I reversed the situation by installing the standard pad, and the previous condition resumed. I already knew how the standard pad ran from previous, pre-test conditions of the previous couple of years. And that's what I got upon going back to it. So then I reversed again, and again got the better results with the BestAir. Even over several days, these results were consistent.

Then it warmed up outside, and the humidity hit 47%. I put the old pad back in, and the humidity slowly dropped to 39%. Changed pads, and it went up again.

I use supplemental humidifiers to get the humidity up to 48% to 52% (50% is recommended), but can stay above the low-H danger zone using just the Aprilaire but only if it has this BestAir pad installed.

If you have an Aprilaire system, this BestAir pad is the only one you should be using.

I have a larger house, but built in 2008 so I expected humidity to never be an issue. However, my house really struggled with the Michigan winters. After replacing my usual wire mesh drip filter with this paper pad style, I'm better able to maintain a 30% humidity level. Before I was having problems keeping it at 20%!

It does say to change them more often, so we'll see. But they are around the same price as the mesh so really it's not that bad.

If you need more humidity, try these before you spend more money on alternatives!

The BestAir box states, "For best performance, change at least twice per season, maybe more depending on water conditions and frequency of use." In my case, this pad failed badly, decomposing and gathering algae/mildew within 3 months of heavy mid-winter use in a heat pump system that runs frequently. I've placed two photos of failed pad in the user photos section here. I think that when it was working properly, the paper panel increased humidification over the all metal panel, but it has a very short lifespan compared to the 1 year recommended change interval for the metal panel (see Aprilaire website). I would not recommend this pad for heat pump systems, since they run much more frequently than a gas/oil system. This pad may be a good upgrade for a fossil fuel-based system, but make sure to check and change it frequently.

The whole point of a humidifier is to add water to the air. The regular metal mesh media pads just don't work as well as these paper media ones. Sure, you need to replace them 2-3x/season .. but a ton less water will go down the drain, unused.

I'm on my 3rd season with this unit.

1. Its way more powerful than my GE portable. Keeps the LR cool when the GE would not.

2. This unit, though powerful, is very poorly made.

Example:

All four wheels broke off the first season (my season is June-Aug)

The unit emits a "burnt tire" smell. finally stopped smelling in the 3rd season. Friends are no longer asking, "what's that smell?"

The digital lights went out at the start of the 2nd season, so no warranty to fix.

The directional blades fell off the machine during the second season. Can not be repaired.

The exhaust hose lasted only one season, then fell apart, even though properly stored ($29 + s/h for replacement)

To all those who see nothing but good ratings at the Compact Appl site: They refuse to post any of the real negative stuff. They fix the comment section to reflect only good reviews of 4 stars and more. Not too ethical, no?

Do not buy this item or any item from this company. The product was broken right out of the box. If you buy something them and it works, you're lucky. If it does not, good luck getting any kind of customer service for repair.

I purchased this air conditioner from another site. We've had it for one day and it is going back. The first problem is the stupid window kit. It is thin and flimsy. The other problem is that the window kit does not fit flush in the window. There is about a half-inch difference between the extension and the window. Plan on using some duct tape to close the gap. The next problem was the first day it arrived it was 80 degrees but the lowest the unit would cool the room down to was about 74 degrees even though it was programmed for 65 degrees. Our old unit was only 6,000 BTU's and it kept our room really cool for 5 summers so I do not believe this unit is really 12,000 BTU's. I left the unit on overnight because the exhaust opening on the window plate is little more than the kind of plastic grates you see on milk crates. They supply a plastic cover but it takes a bit of force to twist it off. As I mentioned earlier, the window kit plate isn't the sturdiest so I was worried if I used too much force it might fall out the window. The final straw came the next day when the unit shut off because we had to drain out the water. This is crazy how often would it need to drain on 90 degree days? I am so happy I purchased this unit early enough to return it before it gets too hot. BUYER BEWARE THIS PRODUCT IS JUNK!

Compact Appliance sent me a piece of junk (Portable air conditioner EdgeStar model # AP1200S). It kept tripping the breaker and the one time when it did run for 3 hours it never cooled the room. Compact Appliance told me to contact EdgeStar then EdgeStar said to contact Compact Appliance. It is very frustrating to deal with these two Companies. No one wants their piece of junk portable air conditioner back.

The return policy with Compact Appliance is horrible Compact Appliance makes you pay for shipping back to them no matter what. There is no satisfaction guaranteed even though they say there is on their website.

The manufacture warranty through Edge Star is also horrible. They make you pay for shipping on the extremely heavy portable air conditioner to an EdgeStar authorized repair facility (wherever that isas it does not say on the warranty).

I find it hard to believe that there are so many great reviews on this air conditioner on the Compact Appliance website. The Amazon reviews are not as good.

It is very frustrating when you are looking forward to getting cool air after you paid a lot of money to Compact Appliance and took time carrying it up the stairs and unpacking and installing it and still not having cool air. Then having Compact Appliance and EdgeStar blame each other and you is even crazier. It has been a very upsetting two weeks. It is not worth buying from them.

I am happy to report that I purchased a Sharp portable air conditioner at Costco and it is working beautifully. If for some reason it stops working (even 5 years down the road) I can take it back to Costco and get me money back instantly. Costco is a company that does guarantee satisfaction unlike Compact Appliance.

I have a aprilaire 500 humidifier that uses this size pad and due to size restriction of area of furnace had to use 1 size smaller humidifier than I wanted (right on edge to use bigger) I bought this pad locally first and it is more efficient at raising to humidity in the house than the metal OE one. Only issue is will have to be replaced more often since it uses a fiber type pad which if you try to clean will fall apart but is small price to pay for better efficiency of unit.

My manual states this is the recommended and most efficient waterpad for my humidifier. I couldn't find this one locally a few years ago when I stocked up on waterpads at Lowes. This year, my humidity was dropping daily as winter set in. After these arrived, I put one in immediately, and started seeing improvement in humidity within a day. It's now the coldest month (February) and my humidifier is still keeping up, thanks to these waterpads.
