This is a great picker-upper of the water to bring moisture in the air. My son and his wife have hot-air that gets very dry, so they need this to help stop the static, of which their 4 cats are grateful for, and of course, it makes breathing easier, especially at night. The size is smaller than the original, but, with a little effort they got it on. The unit is about 30 years old and hasn't been used for about 25 years. Glad I didn't throw it out when I bought our house that has steam heat. +JMJ+

I'm giving this a good honest review because of the high cost of the item. It's a decent size for a bedroom the fan is fairly quiet and it really works well. After the first day I checked the filter and was amazed at how dirty it was which means it is working as it should. The color choices are a nice added touch. Can't tell if the uv light is actually doing anything but it is on. The air is cleaner and the fan creates a nice breeze to circulate the air. Over all I am very pleased with this product.

It didn't do anything for the air quality in my small room or dust/pet hair. It is quiet though I give it that. Why pay for a piece of garbage that's quiet? Save yourself the hassle of returning and don't buy it. It's going to break... invest in something a little more pricier and better quality.

Really wish that we could say that we were thrilled with our purchases, but we bought two of these in black, one for each of our kid's rooms. First one had to be exchanged within the first couple days due to an awful noise coming from the fan. Second one had to be exchanged due to the same issue. We received the exchanges promptly and unfortunately one of them had to be exchange again due to same awful noise and the second one is now getting ready to be returned because it can only be ran for a short amount of time before it starts making a rumbling noise and sounding awful. The other is boxed up waiting by the door for ups to be returned because unfortunately after 3 weeks it is sounding worse than any of the other three. We would not recommend these. Thankfully amazon has been amazing and that is why we will be purchasing a different brand from them today to replace these.

Hip color, quiet and fits nicely in our living room. The other colors they offer are neat too. I think I will get an orange one for the bedroom!

I just bought the TPP440 (which is the taller black model) for my bedroom and it is GREAT. I wanted something smaller for my office and the 220 comes in assorted colors and fits nicely under my desk. Emits cool air which is nice too. I have to say though that the fan is loud on low...loud for me anyway. It's much louder than the 440. Glad it's not in my bedroom or I would not be able to sleep--not a white noise person! Still on the fence about sending this one back...might give it a couple days to see if the noise really bugs me or not. I have cats and these Therapure products have saved my sinuses!

I purchased this humidifier for a library, which is primarily dark woods and the white 821-000 model which is a very good unit stood out like a sore thumb. Fortunately, both units take the #1043 replacement wick. The pictures I saw of the product depict a rather rich looking appearance, but in the flesh its not so impressive. The fill level is somewhat confusing. Its a 1" plate saying max fill. Fill to the bottom/middle/top of the plate? Nothing in the manual on the subject. Filling it is a pain with a little door that makes pouring in water a precision operation to avoid spills. In addition, I needed a flashlight to see the water level to prevent overfilling. I have 2 of the 821-000 models and they are much easier to use. They should make a dark colored version of it where white is not a good option. I have also found that filling the units with filtered water greatly extends filter life and efficiency. Otherwise, if the water used has a high mineral content it will turn the filter into a cinder block in short order.

It is plastic, but it looks good, and is much better looking than competitive models. It is also very quiet on the 1 setting, and puts out a lot of moisture and the 9 setting, and can be set anywhere in between.

the major drawback is that there is no way to tell how much water is in the reservoir. The unit holds 3.5 gallons, so when it is empty, I add 3 gallons. I have to wait until it is empty to fill it (which can happen anytime) when I am not around, there is no easy way to top it off in the evening.

Reading the reviews of this product, I was hesitant to purchase it, but comparing the other humidifiers on this site, I couldn't find one that was any better. That being said, I was afraid to buy it on line in case it needed to be returned so I purchased it locally. A couple of comments regarding it performance:

Noise: Sounds like a pedestal fan, or box fan, really not that big of a deal for us. After a couple hours you forget that its actualy there. There are about 10 fan levels, you realy don't need that many, but it is nice to turn it down, if your listening to a movie, and then pump it up when you need the extra moisture.

Filling the tank: The one feature I really like is that you just pop open a small door, and using a pitcher, fill it up, it holds 3 gallons. With our wood stove running non stop, and the humidifier set on medium to high fan level, we go through about 3 gallons every 24 hours, and it keeps the main living floor at 45 to 50 percent humidity.

The unit keeps our 1700 sqft, 2 story house comfortable, we keep it by the stairs, so that the natural draft distributes the mositur evenly.

One complaint, I wish it had a water level window, you don't know its full untill water is running on the floor, so we just put a gallon in it in the morning, and one at night, or just wait till it runs out completly.

The remote control is usefull, but not nessecary. It is nice to see the humidity is on the other side of the room, not just right at the machine.

The tile top is extremely fragile, be carefull.

The plastic consol is just that plastic, not bad, but not great, though since it is a pedestal, it is not very obtrusive.

We;ve been running it for 2 months now on well water and np problems, the wick still works and it does a good job. The concept is simple, a fan blowing across a large wick, like an auto air filter. Its not flashy, but it does it job.

Honest reviews on Essick Air EP9500 Whole House Humidifier With Refill Indication

This unit looks nice and that is where the value ends. The door in the front pulls down for you to fill the unit, unfortunetly there is no gauge as to how much water is needed. Fill it to high and the unit overflows, and stops working. The only way to determine how much water is needed is to take teh full lid off. In addittion witht he way the fill door is set, there is a high probablility the water will spill out as you lift the fill container (one you use) higher. Looks nice and that is it.

Now the unit I do recomend for one from the same company that is easy to fill and runs for a long time is the Essick Air 4D7 300 Whole-House Console-Style Evaporative Humidifier. I purchased both of them and this one is much easier to work with. It has two large fill tanks that last a long time (depending on how dry your place is) comes with a hose that mkaes it easy till fill, water is in sealed container as you move it from fill source to unit. Bigger and not as nice looking at the EP9500 but a better choice.

This humidifier is a good size if you're looking for a whole house humidifier with a small footprint. It appears to have a woodgrain look in the photos, but it doesn't. It's just brown plastic...really cheap looking brown plastic. Having said that, it is slightly more attractive than the gray plastic humidifiers and does blend in a little better than one of those. The granite tile for the top is an actual (relatively thick) granite tile, which was surprising to me. Honestly, I think it makes the plastic look even cheaper by comparison though. I do give them props for putting it on rolling casters. It's really easy to shove into a closet if you're having company and don't want to look at an ugly appliance.

I've only had this for about a week now, but it seems to do the job fairly well. The air doesn't seem quite as chilly since I've been humidifying it; which is why I wanted a large humidifier. You can set the desired humidity and the system will turn itself on and off to maintain that. You can also adjust the fan speed at 9 levels. It is fairly loud even at the lowest speed, but not overly distracting.

EDIT 1-21-2012: The humidity sensor on this thing is useless. Sometimes it will come on for about 10 seconds, then shut off and do that continually. It loses a star for that as this feature doesn't seem to work correctly. I just turn it all the way up when I want to humidify and off when I don't.

Others have commented on the fill door being useless and I have to agree. You can use it, but unless you take the top piece off, there is absolutely no way of knowing how full the tank is. I find it easier to just open it up to fill it rather than guess and risk an overflow. The top piece pulls right off, so this isn't much of a hardship.

I keep my reviews up to date and will share additional comments, good or bad, if my experience with this appliance changes.

Bought as a replacement pad for my humidifier and it works as it should. Part revived undamaged and was inexpensive.

This thing melted away within a few days. I only figured it out when I was in the room with the furnace and there was water all over the floor. Because the humidifier filter had essentially melted, the water was not draining down the tube as it should. Instead it was running down the side of the duct work. Will not buy this again.

Review of Salt Therpy Ultrasonic Salinizer For Chronic Respiratory Diseases

Salt Therpy Ultrasonic Salinizer For Chronic Respiratory Diseases
Customer Ratings: 3.5 stars

Short version:

The Saltair Domo is a scaled-down ultrasonic humidifier with a nearly non-existent output. The amount of salt they recommend you put in is minuscule and would hardly make a difference if you were directly nebulizing it, and is completely useless as a tool for altering the ambient air. It seems to be an attempt to cash in on the popularity of halotherapy.

Long version:

I bought this item hoping that we could use it to simulate some ocean air in our bedroom for our 6-month old with cystic fibrosis. Unfortunately, my opinion on this item is that it fails miserably at what it purports to do, which is to place salt ions into the air. I base my opinion not on experimental results, but logic and common sense, some basic biology, and my own experience.

One of the first things I noticed was the manual's recommended maximum amount of salt for the 2.5 cups (0.6L) maximum tank capacity: 1/4 teaspoon.

I'm not a biologist, but I have been teaching myself biology through text book and MIT OCW courses, and was interested in how this ratio of salt to water compares to isotonic saline, hypertonic saline, and ocean water. The percentages given when discussing saline are w/v measures. Normal saline is about 0.9%. Hypertonic saline can be found varying concentrations, from 3, to 5, to 7 and 9%. Sea water varies, but on average is said to be around 3.5%. For 1/4tsp of salt in 2c of water, which is more salt per volume than the manual recommends, would be 0.3%. Normal saline is close to the same concentration of NaCl as your blood, so the saline they have you create could be considered to be hypotonic, not hypertonic, relative to normal saline.

Studies have been conducted to see if hypertonic saline (7%) could help people with CF. It was found that normal saline (0.9%) did not significantly impact on the number of exacerbation in patients. It was found to be ineffective. It was only the hypertonic saline that made a difference, specifically, 7%. Spending time at the beach has been shown to have benefit for people with CF. Sea water is also hypertonic, 3.5%.

The expected response to this would be that the device is intended to be run over many days. Surely that can make up for the low concentration of salt. This may be true, if the device actually had a decent airflow. It has such a low airflow that you cannot feel it with your hand unless it is within an inch of the air outlet. The manual clearly states that the device should be empty after 8-9 nights of use. Let's say a typical night is 7 hours, so 9 nights would equal 63 hours to dispense 1/4 teaspoon of salt. You don't have to be a scientist to realize that this is simply a joke.

And to go even further, you must assume that very little of this air will actually enter the lungs of your sick child. Here in the south, during the summer, the air conditioner is constantly running, pulling air out of the room, replenishing it with filtered air. I'm convinced that, given the low airflow of the device, there was essentially 0 salt ions getting into my lungs when I tested it 1 ft away from my face over a period of two nights. It simply is not enough to overcome other sources of airflow that are present in a typical middle-class household here in the southern United States. The only way to overcome ambient airflows is for the device to pump the air high and far enough so that it could be directed to someone.

One very troubling aspect of this product was the fact that the manual lacks any mention of proper cleaning of the device to prevent bacterial and other microscopic organism growth. They do mention cleaning it, but it's to ensure proper operation. It leaves you with the impression that you don't have to worry about bacteria with this device. In fact, the nice lady who sold it o me was under the impression that you didn't have to worry about bacteria in it because salt is anti-bacterial.

Another issue was the manual's lack of recognition of white dust as a problem. This product is essentially an extremely low airflow ultrasonic humidifier. One of the risks associated with using ultrasonic humidifiers is that they will place whatever happens to be in your solution into the air, be it bacteria, minerals, etc. Some of that stuff will settle on your furniture, floor, etc. The manual doesn't mention any of this. In fact, the manual specifically tells you to use tap water, which is probably the worst thing to use if you are breathing in the contents of the solution. More importantly than impurities and white dust, bacteria that may grown in the water will also be projected into the air. This is why some ultrasonic humidifiers come with some type of silver stick, or other type of anti-bacterial agent. I think the omission of any warnings of these two problems is telling. Perhaps there is no risk of these 2 problems because the air from the device is not really getting into your lungs. It's seeping out onto your floor, and being swept out into your A/C filter, or pushed down into your carpet by your fan.

I really like the machine. It is quiet and very effective. I have one at my office, one in our bedroom and one in my home office. I grew up near the ocean as a child and this machine does recreate that salt air.

I recommend the product to my clients as well since I have a holistic psychotherapy practice in Toronto.

Good customer service as well.

Absolutely useless item! Air flow is so small that even in a small room you have no effect. If you try to increase concentration of salt solution soon enough you will find air flow channel blocked with salt. Two times salt managed to build up on the motor and stop in from spinning! look for a different product, and READ reviews! Good shopping :)
