One of the best products that I have used for all 3 of my humidors. I have the 250count rectangle. But I am sure the smaller works just as well. The Boveda packs left my humidors fluctuating way too much. I picked up 3 of the 250ct rectangles. I am very glad I took the store clerks advice. No need to premeasure your beeds. That's the best part. Very simple to use. Fill the plastic rectangle with the DR.RH solution to the top. After 20 mins it's ready to use. Just shake off any access water and toss it in your humidor and forget about it. I get a 68-69% range of humidity in my box consistently. And that's just fine with me. Where 5 Boveda 70% packets would barely get me any higher then 65-67%. I like my sticks around 69% RH.
P.S. it does come with a sticky magnetic backing if you want to hang it on a wall in your humidor.

Cheap Auramist AM11MF30-1 30 Inch Mist Fan Cooling System, Black
First I will review the 30" Auramist Misting fan. It was simple to assemble and I used the U Tube assembly site. While it could be little better, it is a lot better than the written instructions. I assembled it in about 30-40 minutes by myself. I had one small issue after using it for a day and called the company. The issue was the air line was much shorter than the water line that connects at the quick connect. I was directed to another person and he also answered immediately. After sending a couple of photos from the cell phone, he told me to pull the airline supple tubing very hard, that it may have a crip inside the housing. I did as he recommended and it fixed the problem. The line gained about 2 inches and then seated into the quick connect easily. It made a big difference in the performance. I love this fan after a month. I live in Texas and we are getting up to the triple digits already. At first I was worried about the complaints that it was noisy, but it is not near as bad as expected. It sounds like a fan. We have a lot of wind here and you will not get the performance you desire if you do not use the wind to your advantage. I built a cart with bigger wheels and a handle to move it around and that has worked out great. If the wind is blowing from the south, place the back of the fan facing south. This will give you great performance as you can use the wind to keep the mist in a straight pattern blowing North. I think you get the idea. If you try and use the misting fan facing into the wind, the mist will just blow away before it gets to you. On the covered patio, it will shoot a good 20 plus feet. We ate out on the patio yesterday (100 degrees)and it was terrific. No one was even sweating. I have also used it to blow over us while we lay in the sun on the lounge chairs. Having the fan on the cart makes it a breeze to move around. I highly recommend this fan. It works well.
Amazon Experience: It was a little frustrating, but they hung in and finally we got to a level of satisfaction. I was shipped 3 fans, first was damaged by UPS. Without a long explanation, if you note on the Amazon Site, they offer this exact fan at two different prices. One for $599 and one for $699. Exact same fan as I got one of each. You do not have to be too smart to pick $599. The $599 is the exact same product number, but the specs say it is 18". Auramist does not make an 18" model. It is very confusing to the CS Group as they are just order takers. Bottom line, we finally worked our way through the problems and I am happy. At the time I was very frustrated as some CS Reps are excellent and some just do not know how to resove an issue. I love the fan, so that helps smooth over frustration with Amazon CS to get the returns and paperwork right.
I spoke with a very nice woman from Auramist who told me that she had no idea why the manual says this and, after checking with her colleagues, informed me that there is no automatic shutoff and that the pump had likely burned out. They are sending me a new pump. Of course, I will have to install it myself. Not impressive.
Also the adjustment between wet and dry was impossible to adjust accurately. Either it ran with a great deal of wetness or the water shut off completely. The idea of the fan is great but the engineering (to say nothing of the manual) is woefully lacking.
UPDATE: they sent the new pump. No instructions. I had my3 sons who spent 45 minutes with it. Two days later, it's not running again. It's not that this particular unit is bad: it's the engineering itself. What a disgrace this company is.

I have owned this fan for about one year now and although it operates well, the water the mist it creates has severely rusted the metal parts of the fan including the on-off chain and the metal rim around the base. A fan of this price range should be able to survive in the environment is meant to operate.Best Deals for Auramist AM11MF30-1 30 Inch Mist Fan Cooling System, Black
According to the manual, Automatic Shutoff: The Misting Fan has a built-in safety feature to prevent water and air pump burnout. If the system is run dry the pumps will shut down prior to overheating." Last night, the water ran out and the fan ran for an additional 2-3 hours. Today, I refilled the tank and despite priming it, no water would come out.I spoke with a very nice woman from Auramist who told me that she had no idea why the manual says this and, after checking with her colleagues, informed me that there is no automatic shutoff and that the pump had likely burned out. Hunter 33201 2-Gallon CareFree Humidifier Plus with PermaWick Reviews
This is the 3rd winter I have used this humidifier. It does the job, running 24/7. I learned it runs best on med or high. I keep it in a far corner away from where we sit. All humidifiers leave deposits behind to clean. How much depends on the water. I have very hard water. Give it a rinse every week and a good scrubbing about monthly. At the end of the season fill the bottom with vinegar and let it run for an hour outside the house with the tank off. This gets hard water deposits out of the pump housing and impeller. Clean and store till next year. It will last for years. The permanent wicks are still in great shape and look like new. Not silent but it does the job. Overall very happy with it.

The "PermaWick" feature of this humidifier is a nice idea, but if your tap water is hard and has lots of minerals you may find yourself giving this machine a lot of attention. We have city water but with lots of minerals... and I'm only getting 4-5 days of operation before it starts sounding like a waterfall and needs to be cleaned again. Cleaning is not a HUGE deal (soak filters in vinegar solution and spray off, wipe mineral residues from other parts with vinegar/water solution) but does take about 20 minutes and it's a chore I'd rather not be doing so frequently. I think that "CareFree" is stretching it a bit.Best Deals for Hunter 33201 2-Gallon CareFree Humidifier Plus with PermaWick
I have read the other reviews and I can understand your disappointments but I have NEVER bought a table top humidifier of ANY brand that stood the test of time over prolonged use. I bought mine from Walmart recently and seems okay so far and a little noisy on the low speed more than I had hoped but all I care it keeps my family and all my pets healthier during the cold winter months. I have 90 days to return it to Walmart with my box and receipt should I not be happy with it or becomes defective within that 90 days from date of purchase. Also, the Hunter manufacturer gives you a five year warranty to return it to them (at your mailing cost) and they would send you back another unit at no cost to you. They just don't make things to last today like they used to. Just make sure whomever you buy this unit from you save your receipt and original box with bar code on it if possible for full refund, exchange or to mail back to the manufacturer.Honest reviews on Hunter 33201 2-Gallon CareFree Humidifier Plus with PermaWick
We've owned the Hunter 33201 Humidifier for over a year now. We like it just fine. Only problem was the annoying buzz that started after a few weeks. To fix the buzz Take it apart like you would to clean it. You'll notice the long shaft with the impeller (little fan blades) and the impeller cover. The cover is held on by 4 or 5 (5 I think) little clips. Using a very small screwdriver slightly release all the little clips without unsnapping them completely. Then using your screw driver pry up the impeller cover evenly around the little fan thing no more than the width of a credit card. Just enough to allow the impeller to spin without contacting the cover. Leave everything just like that and re-assemble the unit like you normally would. The problem of the impeller touching the cover is now solved. Takes about 5 minutes to fix. Relax and breath your humidified air.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Hunter 33201 2-Gallon CareFree Humidifier Plus with PermaWick
My husband and I were woke up at 5 am this morning, April 21, 2011, to the smoke detector in our daughters' bedroom going off. The motor in this humidifier was burning up. Their room was filled with smoke! We only set this humidifier on low as it is so loud otherwise. The tank was also half full. Thankfully my husband is a professional firefighter and OCD about smoke detectors! I can't imagine what would have happened if we didn't have those. Scary. Don't know that I would buy another! This one was only about a year old but we had only used it approximately 6 months total.Saturday, October 25, 2014

In the past, I have been very disappointed with humidifiers. Either they leak or don't seem to do much of anything. However, this Holmes U Tower humidifier is sleek in design and has a few nice features such as:
The two filters are easily accessible at the base of the unit.
The tank is easy to handle, fill, and not too heavy to carry. If you have a small sink, you can always fill this slightly long tank in the bathtub or by using a teapot or water jug.
You have the option to set the humdifier manually on low, medium, or high humidity continuously or you can set it to automatically go on at low, medium, or high at a pre-set humidity level. If you use the automtic feature, then the unit cycles on and off like a thermostat would (although it does that too frequently for my taste).
In addition, the display shows the humidity of the room the unit is in, which is a nice feature.
The humidity level increases pretty fast, which is not typical of other units I've experienced.
According to the manual (I haven't tried this feature), you also have an hour timer option of setting the unit to turn on or off after so many hours. This means, for example, you can program it to turn off 5 hours later or turn on 5 hours later.
The unit has a small footprint (see cavaet below), so it doesn't take up much floor space.
With regard to the operation of the unit, you must remember to press and hold the on/off button to turn off the unit. If you unplug the unit, the humidifier returns to its factory default settings so you'll have to quickly reprogram it every time. This is exceptionally easy to do, but some might find this annoying.
One very nice feature that remains in operation when turning off the unit from the front panel but leaving it plugged in is that the humidity of the room is always displayed. Obviously, you lose this benefit when you unplug the humidifier from the wall outlet.
When setting the unit to the automatic feature that enables it to operate like a thermostat, the unit may cycle on and off every few seconds or minutes depending on the humidity of the room, which means you'll hear the fan cycle on and off repeatedly. If this is likely to disturb you while sleeping, then just put the unit into manual mode as I find you can never have too much humidity in the winter anyway. Of course, make sure you have enough water in the tank to run all night. The tank is rated to hold water for 36 hours of continuous use. However, I have only been able to get 10 hours continuous use on a tank at the highest humidity setting so keep this in mind when leaving the unit unattended.
I ordered the wick filters from the manufacturer because they are hard to find elsewhere; even though Wal Mart and other local stores carry the Holmes line, they don't necessarily sell all the filters for every model. The filters arrived promptly within a few days.
The box says the unit comes with a 5-year limited warranty but the pamphlet inside says a 3-year limited warranty. I called Holmes at 1-800-546-5637 and they confirmed it was actually a 3-year limited warranty, so don't be swayed by the box advertising.
There is one caveat that you might consider important, although this would not deter me from buying the unit. Since this unit is a tower model, it is easier to knock over (especially on an unsturdy surface such as carpet). You might want to take this into consideration in case you have young kids that run around or large pets that might wreck havoc in your house--meaning you may have to alter the placement of the unit to account for this scenario. My observation is that the chances of knocking this unit over are somewhat higher than the squat-to-the-floor models I'm so use to and which have been so ineffective.
Overall, I am very impressed with the unit compared to the four other humidifiers I've had previously. I had a Vicks humidifier, a different Holmes humidifier, a Hunter humidifier, and another one whose name I can't remember. I've always been less than satisfied, so this is a nice change. I've been so pleased with this unit that over six months later, I ordered a second one.
Update October 2010 Finally one of my unit's humidity sensors failed. However, since I've had this unit for several years that is to be expected. I can still use the unit to increase the humidity in the room but I just won't know what the humidity level is unless I look at my second humidifier.
So I called the company to say, "hey .. it's only been 3 days. I think the filter guage is broken" and they had me check the filter (it was yellow and crusty) and they said, "no .. it's your water. you need to replace your filter or use distilled water." Then she laughed and said they had customers that replace their filters several times a week because of their water
So of course I'm not going to replace my filter every 3 days and I'm not going to use a couple gallons of distilled water every night before I go to bed in this thing ...
so if you have hard water .. this may not be the unit for you. Buyer Beware.
displays humidity all the time
variable speed settings. 3 manual and 3 auto speed.
tower design does not take up too much space.
easy to add water and change filter.
Cons:
due to the size (length) of the tank, you do need a deep sink to add water. I use the bath tub.
the fan is loud even at lowest setting.
uses two filters.
The tank capacity is too small; to keep my bedroom at a good humidity level, we have to refill the tank twice a day. Still, the thing did what it was meant to do--humidified the room--until after three weeks the full tank leaked all over the wood floor and area rug. We thought the top must not have been screwed on correctly, but it happened again, warping the wood floor. Leaving the full tank in the bathtub, it didn't leak at all, which made us think that something had gone wrong with the base.
I didn't waste my time trying to get this thing fixed. I returned it.

This product seemed to have been designed by someone who had never used a humidifier before. The water tank is nearly impossible to fill; there's nothing to hold on to once the tank is upside down, and the opposite end is sloped so you can't rest it against the bottom of your bathtub while it fills. Once it's full, a juggling act is required in order to screw on the tank lid, since you can't set the tank down anywhere. After trying twice and only succeeding in spilling water all over myself and the bathroom, I left this task for my husband to take care of, as he has very large hands and was able to fill the tank more easily, although he too complained that the tank was so poorly designed. The tank capacity is too small; to keep my bedroom at a good humidity level, we have to refill the tank twice a day. Reviews of Sunbeam Humidifier Wick Filter
I ordered this at the end of last winter, but didn't use it until this fall. It was stored in a clean, dry area, in the original packaging. When used in the humidifier, it made the entire house smell like dead fish. This is clearly an off brand, not an actual Sunbeam filter. I quickly replaced it with the actual Sunbeam filter and had no odor problems. Don't waste your money.

I purchased this last year and it worked fine once I figured it out. At first it would shut off after the first of the two tanks emptied. I thought it was broke. However, the trick is that it needs to be leveled out just right such that second tank can kick in after the first tank is empty. This took some experimenting with shims under the left side front wheel. It's an interesting design. The two tanks are offset such that the right side tank always empties first. But, if the unit is not leveled correctly the second tank will never drain. Actually, even if this is the case it will still "work", you'll just find you are constantly filling the first tank.
1) They move lots of air.
2) They handle lots of water.
Given the above, they are going to get dusty and want to grow mold and mildew.
That is just the way it is and ALL humidifiers of this type (cool air) will
have these issues. The heat type have their own separate set of problems,
not addressed here as this is not that type of unit.
This means two things:
1) They need complete cleaning regularly
2) They need new "filters" (actually moisture wicks) regularly
So this unit does work and gets the room it is in reasonably moist.
The unit is able to raise the humidity by about 5-20 percent. 20 close to the unit,
5 further away. It is way too noisy on the high setting, quite nice on the low setting,
OK on the middle setting as long as you do not need to be in that room for a long time.
I have found that after about 2-4 weeks the filters will need to be replaced so factor that
into your cost.
A big tissue is that as with way too many products, this (and I suspect most alternatives)
have lots of nooks and crevices and crannies that are a total pain to clean very well. If you
want to get this unit really clean, plan to take it outdoors, use a high pressure hose on the
non-electrical parts, and partially disassemble the fan housings (thereby involving electrical
parts so be sure you know what you are doing). A complete clean can take 45 minutes to an hour
of work but you will not get it clean without the effort. Also plan to do this every 2-4 weeks.
Bottom line, works OK but is a pain to maintain. OTOH, I doubt the alternatives are much eaiser
just a fact of life with humidifiers.
Update: I have stopped using this on reccomendation of my pulmunologist. He says that this type
can spew fungus into the air. In addition, after checking the humidity in an adjacent room with
it running and then again after not using it for two weeks (similar weather, BTW), there was only
about 4-5 percent difference in humidity. I strongly suspect that if you want good whole house you will
need a unit built into your house's HVAC system.
I got it to keep my acoustic guitars properly humidified in winter and it does the trick nicely. Set the humidity at 35%, fan on low and it works well keeping the whole downstairs of our 1900 sq foot old farm house properly humidified. My wife says it makes the house more comfortable in winter.
My only issue is that when the filter gets old (2 to 3 months), it grow bacteria, smells like a fish tank and blows that stink all over the room it's in. (I haven't tried the antibacterial water treatment.) So you will need a supply of replacement filters onhand.
It also needs to be refilled about every 24 to 30 hours when the humidity is especially low and the unit runs alot. It's a bit of a chore adding water, but it's worth it.
It needs to be pretty level or else you will get an error message, which is a bit of an issue in our old house where the room it is in (music room) has slanting floors.
On the upside it does not produce the powdery film on everything that you get with a misting humidfier if you have hard water.
The actual humidifier has 3 fan speeds and is quite accurate in measuring the humidity output. If you place the unit at a central location, or near an air intake for your HVAC system, it does do the entire house up to 2000 square feet. It can be cumbersome to clean out the interior of the unit which holds the 2 tanks (there is a left and right tank), and there seems to be no easy way to clean off the fan blades.
The very weakest plastic in the unit is the flexible housing for the filters. Ours arrived with one, the left, twisted out of shape. The filters themselves, banging around the unit during shipping, had broken "glazing" -the little plastic strips holding them together.
The moving parts controlling the emptying sequence for the tanks are also made of abysmally poor quality plastic, which is why it failed almost immediately. Although my floor is perfectly level, the right tank (my right, when facing the unit) fails to empty unless I literally jack the unit up a couple of inches.
The design of the machine is excellent. It's a very efficient evaporative array. Properly manufactured with metal framing -or at least a decent quality polymer -it would function reliably for many years. Alas, there's absolutely nothing like that available in the American marketplace, and we have only ourselves to blame. It's the product of an ugly business model that not only erodes the quality of the consumer goods we buy, but steadily impoverishes the US by ensuring that most of our productive assets and consumer expenditure flow overseas, often to nations inherently hostile to our own interests.
The marketing literature for this unit says it is "assembled in the US with imported components". In other words, all the value-added takes place in some Chinese factory, where disenfranchised laborers earn $120 a month working 60-hour weeks with no benefits, using energy and other resources subsidised by the Chinese govt. What little production takes places in the US is low-pay, low-skill and unlikely to make any substantive contribution to economic prosperity.

OK, first a few basic physics things you should realize about humidifiers.1) They move lots of air.

Another customer had a bad experience with this humidifier, but mine has been great. I got it online and it arrived in good shape and works well, with no problems for the last three years.I got it to keep my acoustic guitars properly humidified in winter and it does the trick nicely.

We purchased this humidifier to use year round (we moved to Nevada) and have used it daily for the last 6 months. The 2 tanks are fairly easy to carry, and are easy to fill. This system is much easier than bringing the entire unit to the sink. For the setting and the lack of humidity in the desert I need to fill them every day. We have had to change out the filters twice so far, and as long as you are gentle with installing them, there are no issues putting the new ones in. (we have very hard water, which does deposit minerals on the filters requiring replacement) The fins of the filters are glued on one side so that they flex to fit the holder.

The molded plastic used in this unit is by far the lowest quality I've seen on any home appliance sold in the United States. Much of it is precisely the same consistency you find in the 25-cent plastic toys that come out of gumball machines at the laundromat. No, I'm not exaggerating.
The company itself is at the mercy of the giant big-box retailers (and now, Amazon) that channel our sovereign wealth abroad, with only a few senior managers earning a middle class-wage, while the CEO and CFO earn millions.

I knew when I purchased this item that it was NOT an air conditioner and that I should not expect the cooling power of an air conditioner. I did expect that it would lower the room temperature by 12 degrees as advertised. After reading the instructions, setting it up, and filling the tank, I let it run in a small bedroom from 5pm until 11pm. After 6 hours the room was not only still hot, but now it was hot and slightly humid as well. People said this works better in dry climates. I live in Southern California surrounded by desert, about as dry as you can get. I felt I had givin it a fair chance and returned the machine.
Only after filling the entire tray with ice and water chilled overnight does this thing have any cooling effect and even than, it's only for an hour or so.
Anything less then ice and ice water will do nothing more than generate humidity and waste power.
Save your money and buy a real AC unit for supplemental cooling.

bought this product from a vietnamese supermarket for the same price as offered here. used the evaporative function for about a week, then it started leaking. Took it apart found no cracks in the water tray, also tightened up the drain plug with teflon tape, still leaked. put a ring of plumbers putty where drain hole in water tray meets the frame and reseated the water tray. Did not leak for about an hour, so I left for work, came back home after a few hours, the towels I placed around the bottom on the unit was soaked, leaked again. Cannot return it as I've thrown the box and reciept away. The fan function is powerful and works good not sure about how good the ionizer works, but it is always on. Once the unit dries off, I will just use the fan function. Unit is also very light and is attractive, too bad it leaks, will not get another one.Best Deals for SPT SF-613 LED Evaporative Air Cooler with Ionizer
I see many negative reviews here, so I wanted to post a positive one. I work at a stage door on B'way and have no AC whatsoever once the door to the stage is closed. My friend has lent me her SPT cooling system and it makes all the difference in the world! I haven't had any "leaking problems" (that other reviewers have reported.) It's quiet--which is essential so that the show is not disturbed. The 3 speed & "swing" function is great because it doesn't blow directly on me the whole time. As long as I've got ice in the bottom drawer, it stays pretty cool in here. I also appreciate the wheels on the bottom to make transferring and storing it easily. All in all, for what its worth, I couldn't be happier!Honest reviews on SPT SF-613 LED Evaporative Air Cooler with Ionizer

Well if I could give a rating of less than 1 star I definatly would, the output is warm to hot air unless of course you dump a 5 pound bag of ice in the tray and some water, the highest setting is less powerful than the lowest setting on a $20 fan. A total waste of money, you need to be seated within 1 to 3 feet away from it to feel any kind of air from it. DONT waste your money on this junk.
