I have a AutoFlo Model 250 humidifier and the solenoid went bad. I checked Amazon, looked at the various choices and the related reviews. This solenoid was made for my humidifier and got good reviews. It was a no brainer. When it came I took the old one off (not an AutoFlo brand) and put the new one on. It fit the holes made in the side of the humidifier, no bracket was used just screwed into the side. Easy to disconnect the old one and attach the new one. This is a job just about anyone can do. About a half hour of work. And, it did not cost me a $70 service fee. It is running great.

Recently bought and installed on a heat pump. Installation was easy, but time-consuming (took 6 hours for an experienced DIYer). So far, the product is working as advertised in a 2000 sf house built in 1994. The instructions were well written, the packaging good, and initial build quality seems durable. The automatic mode truly is 'set and forget', as we've had a range of temps over the last few days from 25-70F. I did hook it up to the hot water, as strongly recommended. I have extremely hard well water and a water softener, so if maintenance becomes an issue, I will update this review.

Update 1: 2/2/2013. Been using the unit for about 3 months. It definitely works... initially had humidistat set too high and condensate was forming on the lower portion of some windows on cold mornings. This lead to the beginnings of some mold on the window frame. I quickly took care of the mold, reduced the humidistat level, and voila, all's good. Replaced my first water panel about a month ago. Originally tried taking it out, cleaning it, turning it upside down, and re-installing it. That bought me all of 2 more weeks before the "replace water panel" light illuminated again. As I said, I have extremely hard water, so it was not unexpected. It seems 2 months is about all I'll get out of the panels (at $20 for 2, not a prob). Still extremely pleased.

I am what I like of as to think an advanced DIYer. Aprilaire seems to want these units to be installed by a contractor, but I took it on myself. We have a 30 y.o. house with a 20 y.o. heat pump.

I had previously installed a Honeywell unit, but I was alarmed by the amount of water wasted by the thing so I returned it and ordered the Aprilaire 400.

The manual recommends using hot water for the supply, so I decided to eliminate the saddle valve (they seem to have poor reputations)and just take off of the hot water outlet. The rest of the installation was fairly trouble free, but slow going. Since the instructions are written for contractors, they leave out a lot of details that you might get in a more consumer based product. Things like which wire you should buy to connect the humidistat to the air handler. (I used 5 strand thermostat wire. I had a bit of trouble figuring out which wires to use with which terminal. They say to connect the W terminal of the humidistat to the W terminal of the thermostat. Only problem is my Honeywell thermostat doesn't have a W terminal. I wound up doing a Google for the thermostat codes and decided to use the Y terminal.

The whole job took the full day, much of it spent running back and forth to the hardware store.

As of right now, it has been running about 12 hours and I can already tell it's doing the job. Hot water is running through the copper supply line and it all seems to be working fine.

EDIT, a few months later: It is now the end of winter and I thought I'd report back. This humidifier performed just great. The green LED on the controller tells you when it's calling for more water, so I know it's working. My wife and I can really tell the difference in the house, she says it feels warmer to her, and I don't have to fret about dry air messing up the oak flooring I just installed. I also really like not having the thing dump excess water like some other models do.

The owner's manual says you should change the element every three months, in the season. We are in southern Illinois, so I am sure I can get away with just one element per season. I also think using the hot water supply was a good move. I used copper tube and wrapped it with insulation.

I am very pleased with the unit.

This is the 3rd winter I have used this humidifier. It does the job, running 24/7. I learned it runs best on med or high. I keep it in a far corner away from where we sit. All humidifiers leave deposits behind to clean. How much depends on the water. I have very hard water. Give it a rinse every week and a good scrubbing about monthly. At the end of the season fill the bottom with vinegar and let it run for an hour outside the house with the tank off. This gets hard water deposits out of the pump housing and impeller. Clean and store till next year. It will last for years. The permanent wicks are still in great shape and look like new. Not silent but it does the job. Overall very happy with it.

The "PermaWick" feature of this humidifier is a nice idea, but if your tap water is hard and has lots of minerals you may find yourself giving this machine a lot of attention. We have city water but with lots of minerals... and I'm only getting 4-5 days of operation before it starts sounding like a waterfall and needs to be cleaned again. Cleaning is not a HUGE deal (soak filters in vinegar solution and spray off, wipe mineral residues from other parts with vinegar/water solution) but does take about 20 minutes and it's a chore I'd rather not be doing so frequently. I think that "CareFree" is stretching it a bit.

I have read the other reviews and I can understand your disappointments but I have NEVER bought a table top humidifier of ANY brand that stood the test of time over prolonged use. I bought mine from Walmart recently and seems okay so far and a little noisy on the low speed more than I had hoped but all I care it keeps my family and all my pets healthier during the cold winter months. I have 90 days to return it to Walmart with my box and receipt should I not be happy with it or becomes defective within that 90 days from date of purchase. Also, the Hunter manufacturer gives you a five year warranty to return it to them (at your mailing cost) and they would send you back another unit at no cost to you. They just don't make things to last today like they used to. Just make sure whomever you buy this unit from you save your receipt and original box with bar code on it if possible for full refund, exchange or to mail back to the manufacturer.

We've owned the Hunter 33201 Humidifier for over a year now. We like it just fine. Only problem was the annoying buzz that started after a few weeks. To fix the buzz Take it apart like you would to clean it. You'll notice the long shaft with the impeller (little fan blades) and the impeller cover. The cover is held on by 4 or 5 (5 I think) little clips. Using a very small screwdriver slightly release all the little clips without unsnapping them completely. Then using your screw driver pry up the impeller cover evenly around the little fan thing no more than the width of a credit card. Just enough to allow the impeller to spin without contacting the cover. Leave everything just like that and re-assemble the unit like you normally would. The problem of the impeller touching the cover is now solved. Takes about 5 minutes to fix. Relax and breath your humidified air.

My husband and I were woke up at 5 am this morning, April 21, 2011, to the smoke detector in our daughters' bedroom going off. The motor in this humidifier was burning up. Their room was filled with smoke! We only set this humidifier on low as it is so loud otherwise. The tank was also half full. Thankfully my husband is a professional firefighter and OCD about smoke detectors! I can't imagine what would have happened if we didn't have those. Scary. Don't know that I would buy another! This one was only about a year old but we had only used it approximately 6 months total.

I've been interested in essential oils for years. I think we have about a dozen different types of diffusers stashed away around the house. I've disliked them all. They're noisy and w/i a few days get gunky and clogged.

I LOVE this one. So easy to use. Quiet. No glass and tubing everywhere. I've been switching oils right and left and all I have to do is dump out the little water that's left, wipe it out with a clothe, and I'm good to go.

I plan on getting a 2nd one for my work office!

I purchased this diffuser, not through Amazon.com, just a few days ago. It's an adequate diffuser for a small to medium sized area. It's attractive and quiet. I especially like the automatic shut off when the water level gets low, however, I would NEVER run this all night or any other time when it would be unsupervised.

My only problem with it is the cord. I don't see why they couldn't put a real electric cord on it. It has an "adapter" which is very large (2"x3"), awkward, heavy and gets hot as a pistol, so that is worrisome to me. The other end, that fits into the diffuser, is one of those single prong things like for gadgets that go into a computer.

All in all, it cost about 3 to 4 times what I would think it's worth, but most things are way too expensive for what we get these days.

Since I haven't had this very long, I can only hope it will hold up.

Update:

After using this twice, for several hours each time, I decided to clean it. I made the mistake of leaving it set, with the little leftover water/oil overnight. I found the oils had left a distinct ring around the water level in the bowl and it was very hard to clean off. I used vinegar on a paper towel (a soft cloth would work as well) and I had to do a lot of rubbing to get it clean. The clear plastic lid also has spots, apparently oil, that I've not been able to clean off. The little flat piece that they call the "umbrella cover" comes off if you just pull straight up on it, so it's easier to clean.

It would be nice if it had better instructions. The booklet says "occasional cleaning will be required" and also "clean the unit after every use with a soft cotton cloth."

So I've learned the hard way; clean it IMMEDIATELY after it's turned off and EVERY TIME I use it. Do not let it set because the oil residue will harden.

I REALLY don't like the adapter! I make sure it's unplugged after I turn the diffuser off.

This is the 3rd diffuser I've purchased. The first 2 were completely different (brand and price) so I thought I'd spend a little more and hope it lasted longer and worked better. I love the options this comes with i.e., the strength it blows, the length blows. It is very easy to use and it's great that it works fine with tap water. Pure Jasmine is expensive, best use other aromas, like the diluted Jasmine, and what ever aromas you like.

This water treatment for evaporative humidifiers is wonderful.

I used it last year for my whole-house Sears humidifier.

One set of filters lasted all of the heating season here in Connecticut.

There was absolutely no scale build-up anywhere in the humidifier.

I don't know enough as to the "why", but the cheap acrylic jars work much better. After reviewing several brands of humidifiers and owning a few brands that either did not last or required purchasing filters and "cleaners", I can definitely attest to the Sunbeam being THE BEST unit on the market for the price and quality. If you are like me and do not want to spend $150-200 dollars on a high quality spaceship like humidifier that will be another item to strategically pack before the next move, then this unit is for you. Also, if you have experienced other units which seem like they were built for growing mold, had reservoirs made out of the most fragile plastic, or had filters that required a special scavenger hunt to find and of course special "cleaners" to maintain steam .... stop the insanity and spend about $20 for the sunbeam. This unit will easily humidify a 3-4 room apartment...and it's cheap enough to purchase others to cover more sq.ft.

As for poor rankings or "so-so" opinions about this unit here are a few tips:

1. Filling the unit should not be done at the sink but by using a pitcher to transfer the water and easily poor in at said location.

2. Cleaning.. that's what she said.. I followed the other poster who cleaned the unit with vinegar and its great! No caustic chemicals needed.

3. Turning on and off... so, you have to unplug the machine.. much like a hair dryer, iron, vacuum, etc. get over it!

4. For the "smoking gun" scenario.. I'd like to know if they following the fill lines and did not overfill the unit... :)

I can't say enough about this product! Loving it, kinda has to be an understatement! It runs a long time on one filling, as I only have to fill it up every 2 days. It is quiet running. I love the fact that it does not have filters as I clean it completely at every filling. I place vinegar into the tank and run it as usual for about 2 hours. Then, rinse it all out and refill. Alot of people do not like the fact that it does not have a on/off switch, but I do not necessarily care much about that. I have noticed a huge difference in the moisture level within my house, since getting 2 of these vaporizers. I have also not had a migraine headache since I started running these. Very pleased! 5 star product in my house!

This humidifier is horrible. No, it does not have a filter to clean, but I wish it did. The top part of the humidifier cannot be cleaned. I tried using a bottle brush, old toothbrush, etc to clean the parts around the fan & motor without success. The entire top portion eventually grew mold and mildew due to the inability to reach those parts to clean. I will continue my search for a humidifier that can actually be cleaned easily.

We were excited that this Sunbeam cool mist humidifier is still on the market we had a few of these in our old house (which had city water) and they worked great. We didn't use them for a year or so, and felt we could not properly clean the old ones, so we bought new ones for our kids' bedrooms in our new house (we now have well water). I am not sure if it's a function of our delicious well water (which is not hard water and has a healthy, balanced mineral content), or if the quality of the product's manufacturing has declined over the years, but this thing simply doesn't work for us. We are so disappointed! The specifics of this humidifier are exactly what we want: cool mist (safe for children), no filter, easy to clean (throw the tub in the dishwasher, top rack; and run vinegar through it once a week or so to clean the top apparatus). However, after a few nights of questionable results, we realized that the water level does not change from day to day to day. Again this could be a function of our well water. Operating under that assumption, I put bottled/distilled water into it to give it a try. It functioned exactly the same way. We are returning these and, frankly, are at a loss as to which humidifier to put in the kids' bedrooms. I give this product two stars because at our old house (with city water), it worked much better. Here at our new house with well water, we are not having much of a result at all. ;(

I am very happy with this humidor. It is a well crafted box with a beautiful classy look. The hindges work smoothly with no sign of flaw. There is no gap in the seems and no signs of leak. As a first time humidor buyer I would like to have seen more literature with this product to guide me on set up and use. I was also a little unhappy with waiting for my humidor for nearly a month. In all fairness I am stationed overseas, however I receive other products ordered on line in 7-10 days. This humidor does come with a humifier and a hydrometer which work fine, but they are very cheap devices. I felt compelled to purchase better working devices to replace them. Regardless, I would still recommend the purchase of the humidor if you need a small desk top humidor to store 10 to 25 cigars. Considered the cheap devices as freebees. I did have to contact customer service regarding this order as one item was missing upon delivery. The customer response and support was outstanding and definately made up for my disappointments on this order.

The Hygrometer is worthless. The Humistat is a foam filled type unit. Humistat works well. Just remember on the initial charge do not use a 50/50 solution. 1 part glycol to 6 parts distilled water and it will hold 70% humidity for a month per fill. The actual Humidor is fantastic. Seals nicely. Provides a slight spice to cigars like true Spanish Cedar should. Just replace the crap Hygrometer with a good digital and it's a perfect unit.

This isn't the best Humidor in the world, but you can't beat the quality for the price you pay. It's large and sturdy, plus it looks good on my end table. The adhesive on the included hydrometer is a little weak, but some crazy glue took care of that in a jiffy. I would definitely recommend this for someone who is looking for a way to store and display their cigars tastefully but doesn't want to spend a whole lot of money.

This humidor is great for a first time humidor buyers, like myself. It's real spanish cedar on the inside that make your cigars smell and taste delicious. The outside looks classy and elegant, despite it being veneer. The humidor comes with a small humidifier and hygrometer. The sticky material used to hold the humidifier and hygrometer to the lid of the humidor doesn't stay well, so I had to super glue it on. The humidifier has a nice magnetic backing so you can remove it from the base and refill it with distilled water/propylene glycol (which I just use cheap rewetting eye drops). It also comes with an instruction booklet that tells you how to break in (season) your humidor, charging and filling your humidifier, calibration of the hygrometer, and how to store and clean it. The supplied hygrometer, however, doesn't have a small screw on the back to calibrate it if it is off, so you'll just have to know that it's off by 10, 15, 20, etc. Though there are those few minor deficiencies, the price offsets them. If you're a first time humidor buyer, you don't want to spend a lot of money, and you're not sure what to buy, I highly recommend this model.
