I was home sick and needed a new vaporizer. I saw this and had it shipped overnight. When I opened the box I noticed the box containing the vaporize was yellow; like it had been sitting on a shelf somewhere for years. I took it out of the box, filled and plugged it in and NOTHING. No steam. It didn't even get warm. Also the top part didn't, fit securely on the base so when I added the water it moved up and down. It is a cheap piece of junk. Oh yeah there was a bottle in there in which you can add to help you breath better but that look like it was opened and tape shut. This is being returned and I want a full refund (overnight charges too).

Amazon you need better quality control. You should not be sending products that have been on the shelf since the 60's.

The Total Humidity Controller THC-1 humidistat unit is a dial selected humidifier/dehumidifier switch, used to activate a (de)humidifier plugged into it. I use mine with a Venta LW44 Airwasher humidifier to keep my cello humidified. While the switch works well, and the humidity level seems to correspond with the dialed value, it often takes a long time to come on, and the sensor makes a crackling, hissing noise while it is deciding if it needs to come on or not (the transition between off and on). This causes nearby electrical/radio interference while it is doing this. It is also quite expensive to be having such issues. I'm wondering if this is a bad unit or if all these units have this issue. A quick rap on the knob will cause it to come on, but remote controlled lights/ceiling fans and televisions will have interference issues while it is near its target humidity to turn on, and the crackling noise is annoying.

These devices are not that common and tend to be pricey. This one functions as advertised with a heavy duty commercial dehumidifier and was much less expensive than any other that I found that would work with a heavy duty device,

I love this humidifier. Doesn't "algae up" like most of the others. Runs relatively quietly, though I personally don't mind a little background noise while I sleep. Really helps with the dryness when the heat is on... i.e. husband sleeps better. I am using distilled water in the humidifier and there is no increased dustiness in the room. The product is worth the price!!!

Just received my Ci-Gel Clear Jar Humidifier. Having never used such an item, I was very disappointed that there were no directions in the package. I have no idea whether to use it as is or fill with distilled water. I've been searching the web for suggestions but so far no luck. This may be a very good product but without directions it is useless to me.

amazon listing says "re-use these again and again by just adding distilled water!"; received item says "refill with Xikar Propylene Glycol Solution" (which costs $12 shipped, for an 8-oz bottle).

amazon listing says "3 ounce capacity"; received item is marked "2 fl oz." this may be a discrepancy between ounces (weight) and fluid ounces (volume), but it does make this item appear to be 50% larger than competing items, which are all advertised as "2 oz".

if i'd known this, i would have ordered the item with Ci-Gel in the title, for $3 less.

i think i will simply refill with distilled water anyway, and when it stops maintaining proper humidity, replace it with the (more expensive) heartfelt beads, which appear to be very popular with cigar smokers.

I have owned an Essick Air unit for several years. It has outlasted all "Sears" brands and models. It is still going strong every heating/dry season.

Secrets to making it work: I use the 1041 wicks. Every two or three weeks, I take the entire unit into the bathroom, pull out the wick and using a hand held shower spray, rinse off the wick thoroughly. This helps lower the mineral build-up and the wick lasts longer. Also I change wicks about every two or three months. So I need about two or three for the heating season.

Yes the so-called digital "humidistat" doesn't seem to work. Simple solution, I just set the unit to a higher humidity than what is displayed. When I want to run the unit, I turn it on. When I want it off, I turn it off. It's just that simple. I do not run it 24x7, I run it when needed, like overnight when the heat comes on.

And I use a separate humidity gauge. This one works wonderfully:

As for noise, I only run it on the 2, 3 or 4 level. Yes, you can crank it up highter, but just like any fan, the higher you set it the louder it gets... and I can hear the TV just fine even when this is running...

It's much easier to carry a bucket of water to this unit to fill it up than to remove water canisters and drag them out and go fill elsewhere. I'm sure you know the type I mean. Sometimes I just use a rinsed out 1-gallon water bottle just to fill it with, just open the hinged panel and pour the water in.

Here's another hint. Don't mount it on the wheels that come with. Put the entire unit on a towel or carpeting scrap. This will also helps if you accidentally spill a bit of water when filling. That also helps keep it quieter and lessen the vibration.

Do not forget the bacteriastat either, but be careful when using this additive, as always.

It is normal for the wick to be about half dry (at the top) and half wet (at the bottom). The entire wick does NOT need to be saturated soaking wet for this to work as the "well" of water is only the few inches at the bottom...

At the end of the season, rinse it out, maybe using a vinegar solution if there is any scale and then disinfect with a mild bleach solution and it's ready to be stored away, waiting for next year.

This is a GREAT humidifier and I've owned one for several years and if I need another one, I'll get another one of these. In the meantime, the one I own is still going strong.

it very anoying ..it come on for 15 second and off and on like a kid play with a light swiitch. i had to replace my float .essick does not ship part the same day of your order it take three to five bussiness day before they have your part ship.iwas not happy.i did turn up the mosture 45 still the same iwasted my money i dont recoomend it.it did it when i took it out of the box.exsample 15 second on and 1.30 min back on and off.ihate it.it does have a built in the cord hunmidistate..it does it all night long you cant sleep do not buy none of there other model unit..icalled them and ask them they told me to try turn it up mosture but did the same.it goes one and off 15 second every min or less..iwill not buy another of of the .it is a rip off please dont buy it i got mine at menard less than 2 year ago.filter are 15 buck to replace..it hold less than three gallon of water when empty..if you did buy it i know you wont be happy.please dont buy it

The filter works fine, although I had to trim it up a bit. It was a little too tall so I trimmed off about a half inch on the height in order to put the lid on the humidifier....no big deal.

Did not receive the filter I ordered, but a substitute and a different number. The filter did work after I had to cut it to the size of the original. This should have been noted when I ordered as I would have used a different vendor.

I have a perfectly good Duracraft humidifier that needs annual filter replacement because of the hard water in our area. It was becoming more and more difficult to find the filters, with neither Ace, Lowes, not Home Depot carrying that brand. If you own this Vornado air purifier try buying bulk roll carbon pre-filters and add them to this filter. Cut them to size and put them on the intake side of the filter on the inside of the unit. You can tape them in if you want but I don't. This trick will increase the efficiency of the unit (remove more stuff) and will make these grossly over priced filters last longer. I checked the fan motor for increased heat and there was none so this is a safe and highly recommended mod.

I was so appreciative of a review that suggested carbon sheets in front of the filters for lasting effects that I went to Ace Hardware to purchase it. It was there that I found the actual air filters for $4.49 each. They measure 10x20x1 and they are perfect, yet snug fit! I saved so much money with this find so I had to pass the savings along. Paying $20 for this 2-pack online is not my idea of a guessing game. I just KNEW one of these filters I've been seeing in the harware stores HAD to be one that would fit my Vornado Air Purifier!! I have 3 of these Vornado purifiers and I like their performance. They really do circulate the air. These filters are much cheaper here than any other place online and with my prime, they ship free. To extend the life of these, I invested in a roll of carbon filter that I cut and place over inside the air intake opening. It works great and doesn't restrict air flow at all. I wish they come with a washable filter.
