9 Gallon Humidifier Review

I have had several Holmes humidifiers and Lasko humidifiers since getting rid of the last of the old permanent console Sears belt humidifiers that clogged and put mineral dust into the air.

The Laskos just run and run season after season (clean them out with muriatic acid or toilet bowl cleaner at the end of each season) and replace the paper cascade with a metal Honeywell cascade once and forget it. Do not attempt to clean the aluminum cascade filter in muriatic acid (toilet bowl cleaner).

I used to be able to get both Lasco and Holmes at Wal-Mart, but they seem to only carry the Holmes now. That does increase filter/wick sales since you are supposed to (and HAVE TO because they no longer wick water properly with mineral build up) replace that every month on the Holmes units.

On the other hand I pitched one Holmes whose wick clogged in 1 month and am keeping another in the bedroom as a back-up to the primary living room Lasko when it cannot maintain proper humidity during the coldest weather. The wicks constantly clog with minerals and quit working and the water valves on the containers never seem to open properly. (I have now re-engineered the valve openers so they always work, but why should the customer have to do this?)

Winter 2009/10 ADDENDUM: The motor finally died in my last Lasko unit. I removed the dead motor/pump and installed an aquarium pump for the waterfall and a small fan from Rite-Aid Pharmacy, that fits perfectly into the cone and it is running like a champ.

Our humidity is running around 45% at 10 to 20 degrees and we can breathe again without waking up with a sore throat, dry eyes and dried out nose in the AM!!

I am still pleased with my purchase of this item. We are in Anchorage where it is very dry in the winters and this is perfect. Our house is about 1600 sq ft and we keep it in the foyer where there is a ceiling fan on our vaulted ceiling. It does a good job on low to get humidity throughout the house. We havent turned it off since we got it about a month ago. It works for us just fine! Some would find it noisy, but for something that brings humidity to virtually the entire home, it isnt too bad.

I've used many different humidifiers...I live in the desert and it's a MUST in the winter. This is by far the best design because it pumps the water over the evaporative pad rather than having the pad absorb it up into a wick. We have fairly hard water, and the pads stop absorbing rather quickly and have to be replaced. This design just keeps going and going. I just clean it every few weeks, and put it back in service. The air in the house is always a comfortable, stable humidity, even during the coldest, driest winter.

Honest reviews on 9 Gallon Humidifier

The only possible complaint I would have is the noise, it's quite a loud unit. So much so I keep mine in my living room and have a smaller Holmes for my bedroom. The Lasko keeps the majority of the house at a very comfortable humidity. I replace the wick every 5 6 weeks, and clean the unit when I store it for the summer so it's very low maintenance. I do add a very small amount of BestAir 3BT-6 Original BT Humidifier Bacteriostatic Water Treatment 32 oz. at each refill that seems to help the wick last longer, though to much makes the water foam up and probably would harm the pump.

the control to set desired humidity did not work and i had to return this product and go even longer without humidity in my desert environment. i have had these humidifiers before and they are reasonably satisfactory even though i had to replace them often. I did not want to get another one of and bought a honeywell quiet care instead. glad i made the change!!

Looks very cute,Pretty quite and smooth, enough water for overnight! Size is just right,I bought one in Walmart before, and got it returned because it's too loud, and it's more expensive!

I used it for a few days then it was out of order. Later, I found out the return process is so simple and easy. Not satisfied with the product, still very satisfied with the services!

The mist doesn't shoot out as far as I liked. The mist sips around the pink pig face (where it meets the plastic) so the puts like 10% of the mist on the pig itself.

The noise is a lot louder than other humidifiers I've tried in the past. I wouldn't want to sleep with it in my bedroom, but it's somewhat fine during the day.

Overall, it does provide the humidity I need, but I wouldn't buy another when this one blows up.

UPDATE: After 6 months of usage, this product did blow up. Never buying this brand ever again...

It works pretty well. Ship fast and cost-effective. The water volumn might not be as large as other humidifiers but enough for an evening.

This is adorable, but that's the only good thing about it unfortunately. The "on" light is bright red, and it's so bright that my daughter's room was lit up red. We tried putting blue painters tape over the light, and that helped a little. Also, the mist didn't shoot out with enough power to moisturize the air. No matter what setting we had it on, it just fell out of the pig's nose and got everything below it wet. Sadly, we had to send it back. We opted for the pink crane teardrop, and it's working out very well.

Our filters came right along undamaged from intransit and appear to be an exact exchange for the brand product. Still must double check with what's in the air cleaner to be sure, but all appears to be a good fit. Thank goodness I found a good new source.

I was skeptical when my husband decided to order this. However, once it was set up properly, it allowed us to easily position our de-humidifier so that it can drain into our basement laundry sink, which is about three feet higher off the ground than where the water otherwise would drain from the de-humidifier. The pump also gives us the flexibility to move the de-humidifier to other locations where we would otherwise need to elevate the de-humidifer to get proper drainage.

The box claims "Micro free" and that it traps water impurities. Depending on water hardness and how long the humidifier runs, you may get a whole winter season from this or not I usually do.

Perfect fit for the Lasko humidifier. Towards the end of the season I can eek out another month or two by soaking in a light vinegar solution, followed by a light bleach.

The Traveler - Traveling Humidors (Burl) Reviews

The Traveler - Traveling Humidors

This is a nice little humidor for those who are starting off or who want a traveling humidor. The outside of the humidor feels a little plastic-y and the seal could be better (when doing the dollar bill test, the bill comes out pretty easily), but for $8 you shouldn't be expecting more. The best part of this humidor is the humidifier; instead of the usual foam based humidifier, it looks like this puck is filled with crystal beads, which is great! You definitely can't beat the value of this humidor.

This humidor is a good value for the money. I have kept it in a desk drawer at work and it will fit in a suitcase or overnight bag -just make sure you use rubber bands to keep the box shut while in transit! The floral-foam disc is a necessary touch, because there's not much room for anything larger to keep cigars properly moistened. There are far better humidors for displaying cigars and long-term storage, but this is just the ticket for a knockaround box that won't break the bank.

RedCore 1500 Infrared Indoor Heater with Air Purifier and Humidifier Review

RedCore 1500 Infrared Indoor Heater with Air Purifier and Humidifier, Silver
Customer Ratings: 3 stars

Do not even consider buying this heater. It is terrible in so many ways. Online, this product looks to be sleek and modern looking, but when it arrived it looks like a hunk of tin from the 1970's. Second, the triple combo of purifier, humidifier, and heater sound good on paper but it was unable to handle the requests digitally. The purifier worked well, but the heater had a mind of its own. The digital thermostat was well below the actual temperature in the room, 5-8 degrees in fact. Then it would shut off at random times. The remote would not register the commands and had to be connected to the unit for it to work. When working the unit would make these sounds that could only be related to pennies in a dryer. Tried using it when sleeping, awful. If I had to buy this heater, I honestly would not pay more than $30 for it. Stay away; there is a reason why it is hard to find a 3-in-1 unit, maybe because it just isn't possible...

Got the 1500 model 26 OCT 2011. I have to read the instruction to make this work properly and it did. The quality is much better than my Holmes Quartz heater, infact I'll give it three & three-quarter stars for built quality. The heat is very good. I more than likely NOT gonna use this unit as a standalone Air Purifier and or Humidifier coz I have a standalone SHARP HEPA purifier and Humidifier that are "Library Quiet" that emits less than 30 Decibels fan noise. Set the red core 1500 on mid-size room at 78 Degrees F you might able to hear a very low fan hiss. Good thing that the fan speed adjust automatically as the temp is met. Time to retire my noisy Holmes Quartz Heater. Also I thought of the Amish fireplace look alike heaters, but I prefer the size of the Redcore 1500, its small enough and easy to move in any room in my house unlike those bulky amish heaters. Had I received a defective unit, I would have written something negative as well, fortunately I got a good working unit that I was able to test myself, I'll recommend it to friends, and will probably get a second unit.

An OK if overly complicated unit with usability issues. REVISED

I doubt that the first reviewer ever saw one, unless it was a different model or defective.

The Good:

Reasonably effective heater.

Fully adjustable thermostat.

Displays room temp +/-2 degrees accuracy.

Ultrasonic Humidifier adds about 3 to 4 percent humidity to a large room.

Air purifier seems to work well. REVISED see below

Controls are proximity not touch and should last.

Large fancy LCD display easy to read.

The bad:

Any momentary power glitch resets the unit to off. Not suitable for unattended operation as a result.

Controls are complicated and not as well documented as they could be.

The humidifier really wants distilled water. REVISED running one batch of tap water left it operating intermittently.

The ultrasonic humidifier ejects a plume of water vapor that can dampen stuff.

The controls are poorly marked and have odd interactions.

The controls are not illuminated so often hard to see

Air purifier is ineffective for pollen.

The ugly:

Because of the humidifier really needs to be elevated.

Controls are fussy, .

To use the air purifier you need to set the temperature then the offset time.

Timer is time to start not to turn off, It would be easy to have both.

Fan and humidifier aren't loud but not especially quiet.

Distilled water makes it expensive to operate.

Overall works so so but is unnecessarily fussy and suffers from phony reviews. As well as being relatively expensive.

Honest reviews on RedCore 1500 Infrared Indoor Heater with Air Purifier and Humidifier

Too loud. Does not work. If that changes I will let you know. Clunky and not worth the money. Don't buy something like this online.

...but it's more of a lovable early '80s ugly. Received this the day after I ordered it with standard shipping, on the 13th hottest day of the year. So far, everything is working as described. I'd purchased another brand with similar features last winter; that unit died within 24 hours, and a cheesy, '50s ugly fake fireplace displayed real flames after the second day, so at this point I'm easily satisfied. But -make no mistake, this has a thin hard plastic chassis, but make no mistake, all of these do, save for the wooden ones and the single metal unit I'm aware of. All of them are lined with metal; I don't know what protects the internal electronics from heat, but the instructions say if the filter is dirty the unit will operate very poorly. The main remote itself is quite impressive, rechargeable was an unnecessary and thoughtful bonus, and the main power switch is no-nonsense no-accidents heavy duty. While the previous unit was working, it spit out a whole lot of heat, more than I'd like (temp couldn't be set below 68f.) Theoretically these shouldn't be able to heat at all, as I read online infrared allegedly only heats water, and then only if directly in the path of the rays. So just be thankful this thing heats at all, and quit your complaining already. Defying internet physics -what more could you ask for at under $200?

And if you're afraid of guests complaining about how tinny it looks, do what I did: get a deeply discounted '60s ugly germ guardian from myquickby, guaranteed to divert attention from this cute little monstrosity.
