Best Whole House Fan Shutter - 24" - Interior Use Deals
When I purchased a whole house fan from Home Depot 10 years ago it came with plastic louvers that made a lot of noise when the fan was in use. They finally fell apart and I purchased these and to my surprise they are all metal, a great improvement. When using the fan now, it is much quieter because the louvers do not rattle. The shutters came complete with instructions and screws. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is the screws it came with are flat head and not Philips. Highly recommend this product. Was a little too small, but make it work wih a little adjustment. Better quality than original. Metal frame not plastic like original.

BEM1041 Bemis Aftermarket Humidifier Replacement Filter Reviews
Ordered the filter it is not the same quality as the Factory filter but the price provided it would only explain why it was cheaper. it is cheap but simple and will do the job.

I wont know until i try them next winter. They look okay and seam to fit okay.I just like to plan ahead.Cheap Holmes HM1761-U 2Gal Cool Mist Humidifier
We have 2 of these humidifiers, and they work very well. We require the white noise for sleeping, so we love that it is loud. The tank lasts for two nights (about 24 hours running time. We add a capful of Holmes Bacteriostat to the water each time, and no mold grows on the filter. This product is basically peroxide, and the bottle lasts all winter for two humidifiers. My only complaint is that there is no way to clean off the fan blades, and after three years of use we need new machines. Still, I think they are a great value and they help eliminate stuffy noses at our house!
As humidifiers go, the unit is a bit loud, although as another reviewer said, the 'white noise' type of sound doesn't bother our sleep.
We're definitely searching for a new humidifier this one is becoming to expensive to continue using.
I keep it upstairs and I can't hear it downstairs. Doesn't bother me at all. Easy to clean and fill.

We have owned this unit for approximately 3-4 months and have had to change the filter four times now. At about $10 per filter, the cost of ownership is just not worth it. After about a month of use, the filters begin to smell musty or moldy, requiring us to change them (or fill the room with musty smelling moisture). As humidifiers go, the unit is a bit loud, although as another reviewer said, the 'white noise' type of sound doesn't bother our sleep.

I have a lot of Holmes products, so when I was looking for a new humidifier, I purchased this one. It is so loud! On high it sounded like a snow blower at a ski resort. If you are looking to put this in a bedroom or a place where you don't want loud noise, look for a different model.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Holmes HM1761-U 2Gal Cool Mist Humidifier
This humidifier is easy to use, easy to clean and works well without spewing white dust all over the place. The only complaint is that the fan blades get dirty after a few months and they are hard to get to to clean. I just got a screwdriver and took the thing apart, cleaned the fan, and put the unit back together.Friday, October 17, 2014
BEM1040/BEM1042 Bemis Original Humidifier Wick Filter (2 Pack) Review
Not really fair to give this a rating at all, it's a replacement filter that only works with the type of humidifier we have. It's like rating a disposable coffee cup... yup, it held my coffee and stayed pretty warm.

Review of Kids Line Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier
Check the water tank size on the description and compare b4 u buy. I didn't expect it to be this small. Even the cord is extra short; about 3 feet. I think you'll be disappointed if you live in a dry climate and plan to use this a lot. Water level indicator is also a tiny window and hard to see.
The picture is misleading and obviously photo-manipulated because it shows the 3 mists all going up. Real product has one nozzle pointing up and back, and two on the sides pointing parallel to the floor. So if you have anything directly adjacent to it, it will become soaked.
I also have the Crane "Drop"-shape humidifier; much bigger tank and cute for kid's room as well.
I was a little worry about this Kids Line Humidifier before because I read reviews from another web site stating that this model leaks water, but there is no water leaking at all, it works perfectly and safely. I bought a Crane Humidifier a month ago, and we had to return it because it didn't work. The major differences between the Kids Line Humidifier and Crane Humidifier is that the way the water tank is designed. After we filled water inside the tank, we have to turn the water tank upside down in order to put it back. Here lies the huge problem with the Crane models, the water from inside would come pouring out onto the bottom part of the humidifier, which wets everything under it. The Kids Line Humidifier doesn't have this problem, the water tank doesn't leak water when it's turned upside down.
PRO's
1. It fits the jungle theme perfectly in my newborn's bedroom and the humidifier works great. So far I've only used this in my living room which is approximately 500 600 sq ft. It gets refilled 2-3 x's to keep my humidity between 35% 40% ( 20% without use) will vary depending on room size and desired humidity level.
2. No filters! I have hard water so I have followed the instructions to soak in vinegar (left for 1 hr instead of 20 min bc I got sidetracked). Only soaking 1x per week rather than daily; haven't noticed any effect. Note: I considered using bleach but would imagine this would deteriorate the water seal. Just follow the provided instructions to use vinegar!! See note for product in Con #1 if you're concerned with bacteria.
3. The 360 degree mist. Comes out of each ear and the top of the monkey's head. Have not had leaks like other reviewers -I have had it sitting on a cheap, 12-in round pan just to ensure no damage to the wood stand it was on.
CON's:
1) Can't reach inside of water tub to scrub out. I would use my Holmes Humidifier Bacteriostat solution but I don't think it's necessary since the water doesn't sit for an extended period.
2) Manual functions no digital display or timer. NOT a big deal. I decided to buy the Acu-Rite Home Comfort Monitor from Amazon and love it! Monitors the humidity level accurately and saved me money not having to spend more for a built in humidistat.
One additional note: My allergist informed me that dust mites cannot survive above 40% humidity (I am highly allergic). Keep this in mind when humidifying the intended space for your child. My humidistat ensures that I stay within a comfortable 30-40% level.
The con's had no impact for me, therefore, I gave this adorable monkey a 5 star review. If anything changes, I will come back to provide an update.
"Place the humidifier on an elevated, non-metallic, lint-free, water resistant, level surface at least 5 inches away from walls, heat sources, and ledges
DO NOT place on carpet, towel or fabrics. The fan vent is located on the bottom of the water basin. The fan vent MUST NOT be obstructed.
DO NOT place the humidifier on a wooden surface or near furniture that can be damaged by moisture.
(Then underneath in bold)
Do not place the humidifier on top of a towel or a carpeted surface."
So let me get this straight... I can't put in on carpet, and I can't put it on wood, and I can't put it on metal, so where the heck am I supposed to put it??!?! I bought it for my baby's room, which is hardwood floors with a rug in the middle of the room... so where can I put it? Does this company think that all rooms are made of tile? I really don't get the design of the this product... it's completely impractical to be used in any bedroom or family room, which is where most humidifiers are used.
I would just ignore the manual, but I don't want the thing to break in 3 weeks. Ugh... back to the old drawing board I suppose.

We just received this today (12/03/2011) as a Baby Registry gift from our friends. This cool mist humidifier is very cute and it's made with very good material, we just love it. Here's how we got it to work, super easy. My wife just opened the package, filled up the water tank, put it back, plugged in the power, and turned it on, that's it. The cool mist then just started to come out on top of the monkey's head and both of his ears.I was a little worry about this Kids Line Humidifier before because I read reviews from another web site stating that this model leaks water, but there is no water leaking at all, it works perfectly and safely. Discount DeLonghi DDH30 30-Pint Capacity Dehumidifier
The first DeLonghi 30-pint unit I received from Amazon looked great but did not function properly; the cooling unit that removes water from the air didn't work. I returned the unit for an exchange. (Amazon gets five stars for their excellent return process). The second unit arrived in good condition and worked for about 2 minutes before the compressor in the cooling unit stopped, never to start again. I tested the unit in an 80 degree bathroom at 100 percent humidity and it did not remove a drop of water from the air. The literature with the unit does not provide any help on this type of malfunction, but does give a Web site address ( The Web site had great graphics but no useful information. A note to the company asking if there was any way to solve the problem elicited a recommendation to return the unit.
The DDH30 dehumidifier appears well-made in other respects, but clearly there is a quality control problem with the refrigeration unit, or it is easily damaged during shipment. It appears impossible for a homeowner to open the unit to do any minor repairs, so the only alternative is to return units that don't work. An electrical schematic is located behind the removable water bucket, but isn't very helpful because there isn't any easy way to access the unit's innards. I notice that the controls for the DDH30 are more primitive than the larger models. Perhaps those more sophisticated units are more reliable, but I'm not taking the chance...
In my experience, the DDH30 dehumidifier -like the DeLonghi web site -looks great but isn't very useful.
It looks to me like the real problem is the ridiculously flimsy packaging, which isn't nearly sturdy enough to protect these weighty but somewhat fragile machines during shipment. Because of this, I cannot recommend ordering this item, even though for all I know the machine itself may be excellent if it isn't damaged in shipment.
I finally ended up ordering a different brand from a different vendor, and the difference in the packaging is worth describing. The DeLonghi machines arrived in only the manufacturer's original cardboard box. Inside the box were top and bottom styrofoam pads but just air around the sides of the machine. A couple of shipping straps helped hold the box together. The boxes were torn and gouged and in generally terrible condition on arrival; one looked like it had been taped up extensively to hold it together before it even shipped. But this "other" brand dehumidifier from a different retailer arrived with bubble pack and a second cardboard box around the manufacturer's original box, which itself had styrofoam protecting the machine on top, bottom, AND sides. The outside box had a heavy corner reinforcement splint along each of the four vertical corners and there were five shipping straps holding them in place. These splints extended beyond the top and bottom of the box, which had the effect of creating short legs so that the box itself didn't touch the floor very clever. The outside box had not so much as a dent. Now THAT's how to ship a machine like a dehumidifier, and sure enough, the one inside was cosmetically perfect and has been working just fine for the week since it arrived.

I purchased it because it had a good name and my apartment had too much moisture. Once I set it up, the dehumidifier did not collect any moisture and runs very loud. We tried it for a few more days, but no moisture was collected. Had to return it. It was somewhat a hassle trying to use the same box to repack it.Best Deals for DeLonghi DDH30 30-Pint Capacity Dehumidifier
I had been a satisfied owner of a DeLonghi dehumidifier that ran for years. When it finally went quit working, I wanted another DeLonghi and ordered this one. It arrived with a broken-off humidstat knob and a bent case, so I had to return it for a replacement. The replacement's water condensation unit didn't work at all (i.e., it didn't extract any water from the air). It also a small, strange ding that looked as if a heavy interior part of the machine had been thrown against the inside of the case so hard it made a reverse dent. I returned this DOA machine too, and asked for yet another replacement, but Amazon said no. Can't blame them.It looks to me like the real problem is the ridiculously flimsy packaging, which isn't nearly sturdy enough to protect these weighty but somewhat fragile machines during shipment. Best BestAir H62-C Holmes HWF-62 Replacement Wick Filter Deals
This filter was supposed to be like a "HEPA" filter for a cool mist humidifier. Despite sanitizing my entire humidifier before using this filter, the filter molded over with fuzzy green and black mold within 6 weeks. The regular filter that came with my humidifier was made to last 8 weeks, and it never molded.
This is not as advertised.
However, I do like the metal mesh instead of a plastic mesh, because it's easier for me to recycle, now that I've had to throw out the filter.
I will not buy this again.

The purchase experience was good. It took about a week to get the part and it appears that most of that time it was in transit. This is long but not a big issue.
There was no documentation that indicated that the valve had an input and output (i.e. flow direction). There also wasn't any indication that the valve can be mounted in either a left or right orientation. As it turns out, there is an arrow on the valve that indicates flow. Additionally, there is a screw on the side of the valve that allows it to rotate allowing either left or right mount.
In the end, this is a good product with nice features and better documentation would make this an EXCELLENT product overall.
Bottom line easy to install, stopped the leak problem I had with the original part. What else could you ask for?
This particular product is the transformer. It was a stupid mistake on my part trusting the review and the pictures. Too bad shipping was $9.00, as now it's not worth it to send it back.

I read the reviews about this product. I was concerned about the "Solenoid not included" comment so I email the company. They quickly responded that the solenoid was included. I ordered the product. It does not come with instruction but there are only two wires and an in/out for the water which is marked with an arrow. Hard to screw up! Took me 20 minutes to install mainly because it's hard to reach behind the water heater.Bottom line easy to install, stopped the leak problem I had with the original part. My advice is to keep the original cap in case you decide this filter is not for you.
It managed to stop mineral deposits from building up further on the side of the resevoir, but the water gained a musty smell after a 15 gallons/three weeks of use. I sanitize with chlorinated water bi-weekly.
It was especially apparent in warm heated rooms. The risk of bacterial growth outweighs the benefits of the filter for me and I do not recommend this product.
I got white dust everywhere even with the filters, even after also using water run through another charcoal filter. If you are serious about these humidifiers, you need to use distilled water. Then you won't need these filters.
About the white dust, I mean literally everywhere, inside the DVD player for instance. I have quit using all of the Crane humidifiers and put them away. I was really sad about this, because they are so cute. They did raise the humidity about 10%. We live in the desert, it is very dry in the winter.
Update: I contacted Crane and the service rep said this was probably a defect with the Penguin Humidifier, and to fill out the warranty card and send the severed power cord (gruesome!) to them and they will mail a replacement.
Update: I mailed them the cord and they, at no charge, shipped me a new Penguin, and it's working perfectly this winter with the filters. I guess the threading on some of the Penguins is off.

I bought the Crane Penguin humidifier about 2 months ago. The filter arrived about a week later. My experience applies to people using HARD TAP WATER. So far I've found that, although the filter helped with keeping the humidifier a bit cleaner (I clean it once a week with diluted bleach for the tank and vinegar for the base), it only seemed to work to reduce white dust (from hard water minerals) for just over a month, using the humidifier at a low or medium setting. I'm considering using distilled water instead it might work out cheaper than having to replace the filter every couple of months. I would definitely advise to keep the original cap for the tank and try the humidifier with and without filter.Best Deals for Crane Demineralization Filter Cartridge for Crane Frog, Cow, Pig
I got a lot of these Crane humidifiers. We have a lot of minerals in our water, so I got these filters. Some of the humidifiers made too much noise to use in a bedroom. This filter ruined my humidifier which had worked perfectly without it. Here is what happened to me. The humidifier, with filter in place, had been running for a couple of days when I noticed an odd smell upon entering the room. I determined it was coming from the humidifier, so I unplugged it and removed the water tank to take a look. To my shock, the bottom on the humidifier was filled with the amber colored pellets that once were inside the filter. The pellets filled up the area that should have been filled with water. The reservoir had water in it and the unit continued to run, but was overheating because the water wasn't able to flow. The heat damaged (melted) the nebulizer black ring so that the water just leaks right through the bottom now. I am glad that I found out before it caused a fire. Crane customer service has not responded to my email either.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Crane Demineralization Filter Cartridge for Crane Frog, Cow, Pig
I bought this to use with the Duck Humidifier and it worked perfectly. However I got the Penguin a week later and I think the spring release (to trickle more water) does not work with the Penguin... I think it's not screwing on properly (in spite of trying a thousand times to do so). So if you got the penguin like a lot of folks, be aware this might be a waste of money.Update: I contacted Crane and the service rep said this was probably a defect with the Penguin Humidifier, and to fill out the warranty card and send the severed power cord (gruesome!) to them and they will mail a replacement.
Update: I mailed them the cord and they, at no charge, shipped me a new Penguin, and it's working perfectly this winter with the filters. I guess the threading on some of the Penguins is off.

Reviews of Frigidaire FAD504DWD Energy Star 50-pint Dehumidifier
The humidity in my bedroom regularly goes above 60% in the winter, causing condensation and mold on the windows. After a rain, it's even worse. So I ordered this to help take care of the problem, which it does. The musty smell is gone, I sweat less, and everything feels drier and cleaner.
This is a new model with Energy Star certification that replaces a similar model, the FAD504DUD. Consumer Reports gave that one a very high rating. From what I can tell, the only real difference is the lower energy usage, 530 watts compared to 615 watts in the old model. This gives it an efficiency of 530*24/50=254 watt-hours per pint of water extracted from the air (lower numbers are better).
Here's how it compares to the other new models:
FAD704DWD 70 pints per day, 255 Watt-hours per pint
FAD504DWD 50 pints per day, 254 Watt-hours per pint (this one)
FAD301NWD 30 pints per day, 256 Watt-hours per pint
Here are the older models:
FAD704DUD 70 pints per day, 262 Watt-hours per pint
FAD504DUD 50 pints per day, 295 Watt-hours per pint
FAD301NUD 30 pints per day, 360 Watt-hours per pint
Consumer Reports gave the highest possible rating to the energy efficiency of the older 70-pint model, and the second highest rating to the older 50-pint model. As you can see, all of the new models beat the older 70-pint model, at least according to the manufacturer's specifications.
Here are the real world energy usage numbers:
Compressor off, fan on high: 61.0W
Compressor off, fan on low: 52.1W
Compressor on, fan on high: 446W (Frigidaire's web site says 530W)
Compressor on, fan on low: 442W
It makes a little more noise than I was expecting, but it's white noise. The fan makes more noise than the compressor, even with the fan on low. Home Depot's web site says it creates 53 dB of noise. It's quieter than an ordinary dishwasher or a box fan on high. Switching the fan to low speed doesn't make it much quieter. On high speed, it really puts out a lot of air.
The dehumidifer contains a built-in digital hygrometer (humidity sensor), which shows the humidity in 5% intervals. 5% is fine because instant-read hygrometers aren't very accurate, anyway. If you program a target humidity level, the fan turns off a few minutes after the compressor. Another reviewer claimed the fan never turns off, but it's possible that the dehumidifier was never able to reduce the humidity level to the setpoint, and so the fan (and the compressor) stayed on constantly. It would be good if it had an LED to indicate whether the compressor is on, to avoid confusion (suggestion #1).
Also, it cycles quite frequently when it's trying to control humidity to a selected value. This is what it's doing right now as I type this:
T+00:00 fan + compressor turns on
T+04:30 compressor turns off
T+09:27 fan turns off
T+10:50 fan + compressor turns back on
As you can see, it's cycling almost six times per hour. This might be good for energy efficiency and air quality, but it makes it tough to sleep with one of these in the room. I wish I could tell it to cycle less frequently, no more than 2-3 times per hour (suggestion #2). In one of the comments attached to this review is a suggestion to relocate the humidity sensor outside of the unit. Another is to use an external humidity controller, like this one, but with a higher current rating compatible with this dehumidifier.
It would also be nice for bedrooms if it ramped the fan up before turning on the compressor so it doesn't wake me up when it turns on (suggestion #3).
Because instant-readout hygrometers are notoriously inaccurate, I recommend installing a separate one in the room to serve as a "second opinion." I'm using a Caliber III Thermometer/Hygrometer. The Abbeon AB-167 is supposed to be the best hygrometer, and the Taylor 5565 is a close second, if you calibrate them properly. You might also consider a sling psychromoter, which is more accurate than an instant-read hygrometer but not as convenient.
This dehumidifier peaks at 18.94 amps, so like a blow dryer or microwave or electric heater, you may need to be careful which circuit you put it on. Suggestion #4 is to add a capacitor to reduce that startup spike.
At 65-70 degrees and about 40% relative humidity, it took 10.5 hours to pull 6.3 pints of water out of the air. That's 0.60 pints per hour. (At higher humidity levels, it seems to be much more efficient.)
When it doesn't have to work very hard, when it's cycling on and off as it controls to a selected humidity level, it seems to have a cooling effect, but in continuous mode, after a while the exhaust turns warm.
The bucket holds 16.3 pints. It has a little window that shows the water level, but the number of pints isn't marked (suggestion #5). The handle seems a little flimsy for the amount of water the bucket is expected to hold, so that ought to be strengthened (suggestion #6).
Overall, I can say it does its job and so far I'm completely satisfied with my purchase. If I had to replace it, I hope the replacement will incorporate the suggestions I've listed in this review.
I purchased this unit from amazon 4 days ago. I even made a video because hearing is believing. First of all this unit works very well. It has filled the bucket 5 or 6 times in an air conditioned Florida home showing 53% humidity. Since we turned on this unit we are down to 44% inside humidity. The construction observed is very good (we did look at Lowe's and Home Depot units which were poorly constructed), features are good but the thing sounds like a freight train passing by. Also remember that the air coming out of the unit is warmer than the air going in 72.8 deg in and 91 deg out, another problem with the unit in the living area. A good modification would be a dual gauge showing both the setting and the room humidity level. Truth be told we will probably have to return the unit because it is just too loud for a living area. This unit would be great for a garage or basement. That is a shame because it works great, just not indoor living friendly.

NOTE: Although I own this model, this is mostly information on dehumidifiers in general. Other reviewers offer detailed specifics so no duplication needed here.
This covers 1-how it works; 2-sizing tips; 3-general tips, 4-cautions and user reflections.
HOW DEHUMIDIFIRES WORK
First, a dehumidifier is just like an air conditioner except for the location of the warm coil [technically the condenser coil]. With an A/C system the warm coil is outside the house [needs a 2nd fan], so an A/C unit has its cooling coil [technically a DX or expansion coil] inside the house [cooling it] and the heat it absorbs from the house air is transferred to the warm coil outside the house. Basically it is simple; the heat in the house is dumped outside. It's gotta go somewhere!
With a dehumidifier, the warm coil is inside, so the air cooled by the cooling coil blows across the warm coil [one fan needed]. Why? What happens? Well the cool air passing through the cool coil is warmed by the warm coil before exiting the unit.. The net result is that air discharged from the dehumidifier leaves the unit at about 100F [or about 20F warmer than room temperature]. What happens is that a dehumidifier does a better job removing moisture from the air but does not cool the house.
If you are a little confused, try this. Turn your dehumidifier off for about 5 minutes [this is important, trust me]. When you turn it on, put your hand immediately over the discharge air from the unit. You will feel cold air. As the warm air coil heats up, the discharge air changes from cold air to warm air. What you feel is how the cool coil is transferring the heat it absorbed from the incoming air to the warm coil.
Last, how humidity is reduced: When the cool coil cools the air, it lowers the air to below its "dew point". What is that? That is the temperature where the air can't hold any more water vapor. Then water begins to collect on the coil surface and drip down to the collection bucket. That is the whole story except that the efficiency of the dehumidifier decreases as the house humidity is reduced.
Forgot to mention that its ability to remove moisture from the air also drops as the humidity drops, so your bucket does not fill as often. Bottom line: It runs longer trying do the same amount of work [efficiency, get it?]
NOTE: If you try to drop the humidity too low, the reduction in efficiency will begin to show up in a warmer discharge air and longer run times. This results in the temperature of your living space increasing. Raise the dehumidifier humidity set point to correct that and do not run continuously,
WHAT SIZE IS NEEDED FOR A LIVING SPACE [NOT A BASEMENT]
Most comments concern basement applications. This is for a small house, some of which applies to larger homes. Also it assumes the house is at least 15 years old. Newer houses usually have their living space wrapped by a vapor barrier, thus protecting it from the outside. That makes a big difference in the dehumidifier size needed.
For example, my 1200sqft house is a 50 year old brick [brick seals better than wood siding]. During and after a rain if the 50pint dehumidifier is turned off, the humidity goes from 50 to 70% in an hour. It then takes 3 hours to drop it back to 50%.
If you have a house larger than 2000 sq ft, you may need a two or more dehumidifiers. Some will tell you that you're A/C reduces your humidity but it makes it colder too. With a dehumidifier you can control humidity AND temperature; something you cannot do with just the A/C alone. There is no wrong answer as to sizing unless yours is too small. Too large and it will tend to heat up your room a little; so when in doubt go bigger.
If you have the equipment needed, Internet search for "how to size a dehumidifier".
No equipment? Here is a simple way to "guestimate" a size. FIRST, does your area usually have high summer humidity? Ask your local radio or TV station. Or check the Internet. High=65% or more. Low= 40% or less. 40% means that a dehumidifier will not help.
For high humidity, a dehumidifier works well. If you want to also reduce your electric bill, keep your humidity below 50% and your temperature in the low 80's. [adjust to your comfort level]. However, look for you savings in comfort, not money; don't expect it to be paid for in big reductions in electricity bills. It does reduce your bill somewhat.
FOR A 1,000 TO 1,400sqft home: choose a 45-55 pint unit.
FOR A 1,400 TO 2,000sqft home: choose a 70 pint unit
TIPS FROM EXPERIENCE
Dehumidifier compressors "WILL" fail; usually within 2-4 years. I rarely buy extended warranties so this is my exception. Buy a three year guarantee that is tied to a local store. Mine cost $20 for a 50pint unit. Do not buy a factory guarantee [see note below]. A guarantee that requires shipping will cost a boatload to return, making the guarantee meaningless. BE SURE TO RETURN YOUR WARRANTY CARD and keep your receipt in a safe place. They do honor their 5 year compressor warranty and from what I hear gere, often by giving your money back, no return required. WOW.
LAYING DOWN ETC
The compressor is designed to pump refrigerant GAS. Turning a unit back on quickly or laying it down causes LIQUID refrigerant to enter the compressor. This puts a severe strain on the compressor that shortens its life if it fails to destroy it completely.
MY EXPERIENCES WITH THIS MODEL
I have a "DWD" the 2013 Frigidaire model and feel it is the best choice on the market, despite its tech support [NOTE: one reviewer said they got a cash refund from Frigidaire for a unit with a bad compressor solving ship costs]. It is well designed, including an efficient "squirrel cage" fan [slightly increased noise but much better].
Our dehumidifier is centrally located and reduces the humidity throughout the whole house. If you have a problem with that, see if one or two room fans help.
Noise is subjective [different strokes for different folks]. Personally, we eat and have conversations in our small dining room with the unit less than 3 feet behind my wife and it is running on high. If I listen for the noise, I can hear it but the noise does not interfere with us. I am hard of hearing; background noise can really bother me. I do not feel it is overly loud but you must decide what you want. You know, most folks are strong enough to move it somewhere else; do you think? I say buy the size Frigidaire you need.
My senior citizen wife has no problem with removing or dumping a full bucket. Any problem must be caused by "technique," rather than design.
The tech support is only by email and you get a list of standard problems after several days. WARNING; save on a guarantee and pay the price. I've dealt with many tech support systems. I always get helpful people to talk to. Email only? Give me a break.
Price? Amazon's price is great. Balance its price considering warranty cost, taxes and decide. I imagine it varies by state.
The Frigidaire FAD504DWD Energy Star 50-pint Dehumidifier arrived well packed (Styrofoam), battened down, with taped-to-body bucket, and did not need any assembly, other than removing the tape, moving it on its gliiiding casters (great handle on top too -I had to pick this up and it is not lightweight-the handle withstood the tugging and the hefting). It is handsomely designed, looks more-than-just-utilitarian, is pleasing to look at.
There is a drain in the back, for continuous use. A beeper lets you know that the bucket needs to be looked at (full, or not all the way tucked back into the body). The bucket has a handle -oh joy!! I had to be so careful with the Whirlpool's bucket-using one hand on each side of the bucket as I slooowly removed it from the body to keep things from splashing. Now all I have to do with the Frigidaire is pull the bucket forward, boldly pick up the bucket by the handle, and go to the balcony to water my plants with the excess water. I have found that adding a tiny bit of bleach to the water in the bucket, in-between bucket removal, helps to keep mold and mildew at bay (a lesson I learned from a former Dehumidifier that had to be Put To Sleep way before its time, as the green and black 3-D mold and mildew had crawled their way into inaccessible areas of the unit).
The controls are EZ to read and use no buttons, just a touch pad. The Instructional booklet in English, Spanish and French, was easy to understand and is quite thorough, including a page's worth of trouble-shooting advice. Just keep things clean, wash the filter, replace it when indicated, and of course keep dumping the bucket, or draining the water (the drain outlet looks well-built and up to the task.
I have not used the timer-function but it will come in handy when I need it. The lack of noise is wonderful-my old Whirlpool De-Humidifier was so noisy that although I was pretty sure my downstairs neighbors don't sleep in their livingroom/dinette, the noise from the Whirlpool was floor-rattling.
I live in a climate with three seasons -Spring/Summer (summer is hot hot hot, with humidity that almost rolls thru the air), Autumn (with sometimes very rainy Septembers) and Winter (usually dry, but sometimes host to a Mega Snowstorm). So this Frigidaire FAD504DWD Energy Star 50-pint Dehumidifier has arrived at just the right time as soon as Spring affirms its dainty-sweet existence, Summer will be leapfrogging over it to assert its dominance, with at-times scorching heat and mega humidity. I look forward to using this Frigidaire Dehumidifier for six months of almost-constant use. Yes I have A/C in all rooms except kitchen and bathroom, but when the AC is on in the brutish part of the summer, you would not know it.
The Whirlpool? Will be relegated to the kitchen -where so much of my food can be prone to spoiling because there is no heat or air-conditioning in the kitchen.
UPDATE-I can't believe how quickly the bucket fills-even on "just" a humid day in April--Zounds! this is a great dehumidifier!UPDATE 2 -May 2013 -I can't believe how quickly and how much water this takes out of the air!! I have to drain the bucket (which does not lend itself totally well to the act of draining, since water wants to spill out from mor e than one area while draning into the sink - but I'm getting the hang of it) at least once a day -I'd like to add a hose to the drain so it drains automatically but there is simply no place to drain this automatically in my apartment-unless I want the water to go over the balcony -and I don't think my downstairs neighbors will be amused by that.
PS-My Westinghouse Dehumidifier is now in the kitchen where it makes a lot of noise and does its job slowly.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program Several reviewers have commented on the noisy fan. The fan on my Frigidaire FAD504DWD Energy Star 50-pint Dehumidifier, unlike my Whirlpool e-Humidifier (which sounds like a prop plane on a windy day) is muted, and cannot be heard from 2 rooms down and this is with the fan setting on HIGH.The Frigidaire FAD504DWD Energy Star 50-pint Dehumidifier arrived well packed (Styrofoam), battened down, with taped-to-body bucket, and did not need any assembly, other than removing the tape, moving it on its gliiiding casters (great handle on top too -I had to pick this up and it is not lightweight-the handle withstood the tugging and the hefting).

This is replacement for a previous unit by Frigidaire that lasted four years, but worked well until it died. I read all the reviews on this unit and was concerned with the experience of others but went forward with the purchase in January hoping for a better experience. Not three months later the new unit died. We called the number on the warranty card and were directed to a local service repair for Frigidaire. This particular unit apparently is not repairable so Electrolux sent a new unit to the service repair man for delivery and pick up of the old unit. While we received very good customer service from Electrolux from the perspective of follow up phone calls to keep us informed on delivery status, we were not advised of a $50.00 delivery charge. A machine that was barely three months old shouldn't have cost us an additional 20% of the purchase price. So beware of both the quality of this unit and the warranty!Best Unilution EcoGecko Little Squirt Air Deodorizer Humidifier Deals
So I am totally sold on this product. It does exactly as described. Just add the water, 1 DROP!!!!! of oil, and turn it on. It's not really a purifier, but it's obvious that it pulls stuff out of the air because the water looks pretty gross after a day of use. So is it as effective as an ionizer? No, it's just a really effective way of scenting a room and cleaning out some of the junk out of the air.
The "whooshing" sound it makes is relaxing, but unless you use purified water, the funnel and bowel will be discolored and acquire a grainy texture from the minerals in the water. It works great even with the discoloration, so I don't really bother using purified water myself, but it's something to keep in mind. You have to clean and refill the bowl every 2-3 days if you leave it on 24-7. It's powered by USB, so if you want to plug it into a wall you'll have to get a AC/USB adapter because one isn't included.

I like this item, however since it is so small the water runs out fast. I love how it lights up and gives off a scent when you put the drops in it, but I dislike how fast it runs out.Best Deals for Unilution EcoGecko Little Squirt Air Deodorizer Humidifier
For how small this is, it is surprisingly effective. I would recommend it for someone looking for a desktop purifierHonest reviews on Unilution EcoGecko Little Squirt Air Deodorizer Humidifier
Compared to filter-using air purifiers, this product is a steal. I keep it next to my bed and there is a noticable difference in air quality. The LED light can't be turned off, so I had to do a little frontier medicine and remove the LED entirely. The loss of the LED doesn't affect the air purificer function whatsoever though. The "whooshing" sound it makes is relaxing, but unless you use purified water, the funnel and bowel will be discolored and acquire a grainy texture from the minerals in the water. I knew it was small and made from plastic but didn't realize it only had a USB plug. Luckily my cable box had one I could use. Wasn't able to put it where I wanted but at least I can use it. I fill it with water every other day. So far the tap water has worked fine. When I add water I also add the scent. I use my own. The one sent with the product was cinamon ad I'm not a fan of that scent. As I said, it works, does the job I purchased it for but should go for less than what it sold for. Not worth paying $25+ s & H. I would recommend this product if it was a lower price, like $10-$15.
