I recently moved to Aurora, Colorado (just outside Denver) and at 5,400 feet the humidity is extremely low. I noticed my skin began to itch, which it had not done before. My doctor advised moisturizing creams, which helped a bit, and an air humidifier. After a lot of investigating I narrowed my search to the Air-O-Swiss and the Williams. In fact, both units seemed remarkably similar with both using a "patented" ionic silver cube and a filter cartridge which seem visually identical. Both units provide warm and cool mist. Possibly the technology is licensed from Air-O-Swiss? The deciding factors for me were:

(a) the Air-O-Swiss listed a capacity of 650 sq. ft. and the Stadler 1,000 sq. ft. I have a very small house 850 sq. ft. which effectively makes the Stadler a whole house humidifier for me.

b) almost every review of the Air-O-Swiss commented on the inaccuracy of it's humidity meter and the only review I could find of the Stadler said it's meter was accurate.

THE GOOD: Assembly is a snap. The meter is close to accurate. The water tank is extremely easy to remove and fill. It is dark plastic, but the water level can be seen quite clearly. The tank capacity is sufficient for 9 hours of continual use. The machine is so silent that I have to listen closely at night to hear anything at all. Just a soft "ssshhh." The Control Panel is easy to see and use with many options and has a light to indicate no-water.

My skin itching stopped.

THE NOT SO GOOD: It is expensive and every source I could find had the same price. The filter cartridge needs to be replaced three or four times a year, depending on the hardness of your water, or when white dust accumulates on the unit or on a small mirror held to the fog. The ionic cube must also be replaced once a year. A testing strip is included and if your water has a hardness greater than 21 degrees dH, an ionic humidifier is not recommended. They suggest then using an impeller humidifier. The Desired Humidity cannot be set lower than 40%, but I found that setting it at 60% results in an actual humidity level of about 37% which is what I want anyway.

THE BAD: I couldn't find any.

SOME NOTES ON OPERATION: The instructions say not to place the Stadler Williams directly on the floor or next to heating. I went to Ace Hardware and found a small, plastic step stool for $12 that is 5" high. This keeps the unit off the rug and makes it easier to access when changing settings. If you have an chest of drawers in the room with space on top it should work equally well. A review of the Swiss-O-Air reported good results from soaking the ionic cube in water for 24 hours before initial use to increase effectiveness. I don't know if this is beneficial, but I did it and had no bad result.

I set my unit to Auto/Sleep

IMPORTANT: Several reviews of the Air-O-Swiss said that they used de-ionized water. The Stadler unit specifically recommends against this. It is designed to use with untreated water or with a drinking water filter system such as Brita. Using any additives are specifically warned against.

I wholly agree with the previous rater also funny, I used to work in Aurora, CO I now live in Alexandria, VA were it is a bit more humid, but during Winter like everywhere else humidity drops quite a bit and I like to keep the environment at no less than 45% this unit is:

(Pros)

1stylish

2convenient

3easy to carry around/easy maintenance

(Cons)

No major cons the than price for the unit itself and the parts not cheap but overall based on the convenience worth it! Also, the panel can be a bit distracting during the night with all the colors and bright lights but then again, I don't sleep with my eyes open!

I bought the WILLIAM to replace my Air O Swiss 7135 because it claims to cover 400 more sq feet (1000 vs 600) and my maybe 500 sq foot bedroom is very drafty in the winter compounded by the baseboard heat constantly kicking off all night. So I've got this humidifier to battle it out between a constant stream of cold and hot dry air.

Here are my pros and cons:

Pro Great steam production

Pro Double steam spout

Pro Totally quiet

Con Unit is black on the inside so not easy to see when it's dirty and needs cleaning and no indicator for cleaning like on the Air O Swiss

Con Lights on panel are too bright. There's a dim mode supposedly I haven't found but for now I used some tape to cover up the disco show coming off the panel.

Con Tank is drippier compared to the Air O Swiss when I take it out to refill the tank.

Con Never heard of this company outside of Amazon and I'm worried what happens if I need service or replacement parts and they no long sell on Amazon.

Basically I bought the WILLIAM because I wanted more steam and I feel I'm getting it. As for my gripes; they're all pretty negotiable.

Honest reviews on Stadler Form William Ultrasonic Humidifier Black

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This is a very compact unit and I was anxious to use it in a room where we have a Liberty Woodstove. Unfortunately, what is not outlined in the product description online is that this unit only works properly with untreated water. You are not to use this product with water from decalcifying devices, ion exchangers or where water softeners are used. Therefore if you have hard water and use a water softener this product is not for you unless you plan on purchasing bottled/distilled water (which I'm assuming could be an alternative however I'm not 100% certain).

Another downside to this product is the substandard instructions for use. Right out of the box, I thought there were pieces missing. Turns out that the water tank needs to be removed and the filter and other items are packaged and shipped inside the water tank. Nowhere in the instructions was there any reference to where these items were at. In addition, there was a red sheet of paper included with the literature that stated to soak the "anticalc cartridege" (yes, this is how it was spelled) in a water bath for 24-hours. In the description of the product parts nothing was identified as the "anticalc cartridege." I eventually made the connection that I believe they are referring to the "Limescale and Bacteria Filter" since most filters that are placed in water typically do need to be soaked in water prior to being used. A little more clarity however in the overall instructions would have been very helpful.

Once you overcome the directions it's easy to use. Replacing the filter can (and will) be costly you'll need to replace the filter between 10 and 60 days depending on how hard your water is (probably will cost around $20 each). In addition, the Ionic Silver Cube will need replaced occasionally another $25. Annual/seasonal use of this product therefore could easily cost over $300.

This product simply wasn't what I was looking for. I didn't want to potentially ruin it by using my softened tap water and I also didn't want the hassle of constantly purchasing and storing gallons of water for use with this product.

I like the color and design, it is dark and compact and does not look like it should be in a hospital room. As advertised it is quiet make that silent, there is no noise. The tank lifts easily from the humidifier for easily refilling but you want to have a towel handy to put under the tank to catch drops of water when you remove the tank. The filter cartridges cost $20. We have soft water so supposedly we only have to change the filter every 60 days, but if your water is harder you would have to change it monthly so that could be a cost of $240 a year to add on to the cost of the humidifier that is a downside for me. My wife was experiencing some problem with her eyes because of the dryness of our weather and the humidifier has greatly helped. The only problem we experienced was a somewhat acrid odor when we first turned it on so I had to run it in the garage for three days before the odor was gone. We have only had the humidifier for three weeks but other than the initial odor and the the every other month expense for filters we are very happy with the product.

For the first day or two this humidifier pad work like it should. As soon as the clay was saturated, it made the air in the house smell like clay. When my when my birds would fly, the air was cloudy wih microscopic clay particulars. Ended up putting the pad under a strong stream of water to wash off the clay. Kind of defeats the purpose of the pad.

Please note that I recently joined the Vine program but this review is based on my own private purchase (i.e., I paid for it!)

With winter approaching I wanted to get additional humidifiers to help with making household air less dry. I have an old Holmes (an older version of the current Holmes HM1865-U model) that puts out a lot of moisture and has a humidistat. I recently bought a much more expensive humidifier from Brookstone but I found it did not put out nearly as much water compared to the Holmes and the expensive model was not much quieter.

After way too much research online and checking out models at local stores I decided on the Crane Ee-8065. I considered the digital version but for the price difference I did not see the additional value.

The manual version has a small footprint and sleek form-factor. It is incredibly quiet and the mist output can be adjusted. The warm mist does not seem too warm (compared to steam misters) and I mostly run it in the cool mist setting. I am not sure the warm mist would be that great at helping with a cold or illness compared to a true steam mister. That said, my main purpose was to find a quiet humidifier I could run at night. The Crane Ee-8065 has proven itself to be exactly what I need. In fact, I am going to buy a couple more to put in other parts of our house.

The only negative thus far is it is a bit awkward to hold while refilling the reservoir but this might have more to do with me becoming more used to it. The reservoir could be larger too, but then again that would mean the unit itself would have to be larger and I kind of like the smaller size of the unit itself; I can accept the trade-off between size of unit and how often I have to refill the reservoir.

I love the Crane Ee-8065 Crane Germ Defense Humidifier. We recently upgraded from the Crane Drop Shape Cool Mist Humidifier, White as it was damaged due to a flood in our now older apartment. The advantages the Ee-8065 provides from other Crane humidifiers are that of the larger water tank and the ability to set the humidifier to that of a cool or warm mist. For the extra thirty dollars in price, it's a jump that's worth it. Especially when other humidifiers (that actually work) cost double the price if not more. However, there's one problem I have with the Ee-8065 that other reviewers have mentioned.

The lights on the unit. The blue light if the humidifier is turned on or the red light if the humidifier has ran out of water. Either way, the lights on the Ee-8065 could steer ships at night if placed in the middle of the Atlantic ocean. For a device that's usually on when we're asleep, the lights are way too powerful and overbearing. Anywhere we've placed the humidifier in our bedroom, it's almost as if we have an extra light on. Even when we cover the front of the unit with a blanket or jacket to hide the lights, the lights still power through it. It's not only annoying, but also a major inconvenience.

Other than the fact the light is more powerful than the light on top of the Luxor Hotel and Casino, the Ee-8065 is a great humidifier at its price point. Not only does it make it a lot easier to sleep at night, but the ability to clean it is way easier than it was on my past Crane Drop Shape Cool Mist Humidifier, White. If you're in the market for a humidifier, this is one of the best ones to get. I would just be ready with a solution on how to cover up the lighting before you finalize your purchase.

Best Deals for Crane Ee-8065 Crane Germ Defense Humidifier - Manual, White

I read all the reviews for the electronic version and decided to go with the manual version. One major thing to note when you read the owner's manual, it states to not sit this unit on carpet. Unfortunately, the intake fan is on the bottom of the unit. Brilliant. So, given that all the other flat surfaces in my bedroom are wood, I had to find something flat to sit it on. It absolutely is NOT quiet. That fan has a very annoying whine to it. We have 2 other older humidifiers and they are far quieter than this one (but are unfortunately not made anymore). The light on the front is very bright. We aimed it away from us and it still was too bright at night. Possibly good for a kids bedroom, though. I tried both warm and cool mist settings, and really couldn't tell a difference. You could feel the warm mist right at the unit, so it was heating the mist. I gave it 2 stars because it really does pump out a lot of mist and humidified my medium size room well. So, I'm back to searching for the right combo of quiet, functional, and easy to clean.

Honest reviews on Crane Ee-8065 Crane Germ Defense Humidifier - Manual, White

I bought the electronic push button model. The one I have has 6 different buttons that you must reset everytime you use it as it has no memory. The only diffence I can see is that with this model there is no timer setting. Unless you need to set the timer setting (it turns off by itself when out of water) I would get this model. I wish I had thought about all the programing you would have to do each time you turn it on. You have to press several buttons up to 12 times to get it on the setting you want. This is alot of time wasted when you are getting ready for bed. Overall it is so quiet I don't even know it is on. I've only had it a week so I don' know about it's reliability.

I find this unit hard to clean. I get pink mold weekly in the tube which the fog comes out. You can't reach in there to clean it. Also, the base gets pink and has many nooks to clean. The brush provide does not fit into all of the nooks. Also the bristles are cheap and permanently bend after a couple cleanings.

The simple design of airflow onto the fog stream is nice. I wish more care went into the wells and spacings of the mating parts to make it easier to clean.

The level indicator turns the blue light on and off repeatedly when the water is about to run out. It makes a decent clicking noise (relay of somesort). That is annoying as it clicks on/off 1-2 times a minute for say 30minutes.

It was advertised as fitting my humidifier, and it did, sort of, but required me cutting it in half before it would fit. However, when all was said and done I had two filters instead of one. So I guess it worked out OK. It would have been nice had the size of the filter been listed on the box or in the ad.

Review of Fuente Humidifier Bag

Fuente Humidifier Bag, Large
Customer Ratings: 5 stars

I placed an order through Amazon.com for a large Fuente humidifier bag, sold and shipped by Cuenca Cigars, and gave it to my husband as a gift. The package arrived quickly by USPS.

Inside the package (excellent packaging by the way) was a very Large Fuente Humidifier Bag and also a complimentary Cuenca 6x60 "house cigar", which my husband absolutely loved!!!

The Fuente Humidifier is a laminated bag with a resealable zipper and includes Humidipak's patented 2-way humidity control technology to maintain a 70% humidity level. Once the bag is opened, it's good for 6 months with no maintainence! After six months, just throw the bag away. This is perfect for him while he researches Humidors (he is leaning towards Adorini) and also for myself if I decide to purchase some cigars for my husband, I can just place them in this bag until I give it to him for his Birthday, Christmas, etc.

Here are the specifications from Humidipak.com:

Model: Large Bag

Humidipak inside (%RH): 70% RH

Dimensions (WxH): 12" x 16"

Storage Capacity: Up to 2 boxes

Working Life: 6-mos, after opening

Zipper-Type: Side load

My husband then emailed Cuenca Cigars and thanked them for the Cuenca "House Blend" cigar he received and then inquired about ordering a box of them.

Well, much to his surprise, shortly after sending the email, my husband quickly received a response from Mr. Cuenca, thanking him and also providing a link so that he could order a box of these 6x60 House Blend Cigars named "Cuenca Happy"!

I highly recommend Cuenca Cigars for both their outstanding Customer Service, Cigars, and Humidifiers!

I discovered these bags in a cigar shop while on vacation and bought one. Once you open the bag, it is good for about 6 months before you need a new one. This is how it works: Inside the bag is a small packet that looks much those you get for towelettes. When you open the bag, write the expiration date on the little packet with a permanent pen but do not tear or damage the packet in anyway. The expiration date is six months from the time you first opened the bag. You don't have to write the expiration date but it is handy to do so. And then place your cigars in the bag and zip it up. You're done. I like these because I can travel with the them and they are very low maintenance. No if you are a cigar collector and want to age your cigars, go with a humidor with a digital hygrometer. But if you are like me and smoke a few cigars or enjoy bringing them to events or for others at a party, try this bag. You'll like it.

The medium bag will hold as many as 20 cigars without cramming them in.

The caps did not fit the bottles on my Bemis 497-300 humidifier. They looked like they would fit but the thread size was wrong. The caps I was sent had four crenelation-gaps around the edge, whereas the ones on my unit (and the ones in the photo) only have two gaps or notches. I contacted the vendor and was told that they "should" fit. Ultimately I had to return these and order from another source and those did work. The vendor did give me a full refund but I was out the cost of shipping back the misrepresented item.

There are so many things wrong with this unit that I'm surprised I've managed to remember them all. Some other reviewers have touched base on them already, but here are the details:

* You put water and/or ice in the top of the unit; you cannot put water where the ice is and vice-versa. The area where you pour water into is about 3x2 inches in size (yes, really!), while the area for ice is about 7x3 inches. You literally need a funnel or a small plastic tube to fill the unit up with water (see below). But it gets worse...

* Easily the biggest flaw: the water/melted ice goes down a tube and literally into the casing of the unit! There is no water tank, or centralized hold for liquids. The entire bottom of the unit is the "tank", if you can even call it that.

* The two cooling packs provided contain some sort of cheap coolant liquid inside of them -they do cool quite well, but here's the problem: they're physically too large. The cooling packs are dropped into the bottom of the casing (where the water is), right into the water. They don't mount inside anywhere.

* The "door" for the cooling packs is too small for my hand (and I have small hands), which makes removing the cooling packs impossible. It took me a good 5 minutes using a pair of plastic pliers to grab a pack and remove it. The door is held shut with magnets, which is admittedly nice. But the door empties right into the water "tank", which means you might as well fill it up from the side and not the top! What were they thinking when they engineered this thing?!

* Water pump is a pump intended for aquariums. If you open up the back of the unit (which you have to do for water filter cleaning; see below), you can peek inside and see quite clearly printed on the pump "AQUARIUM PUMP". Most aquarium pumps I know are loud, not soft/quiet nor do they hum; and because the pump is screw-mounted to the bottom of the unit (which is plastic), I'm left thinking the entire unit must vibrate heavily when powered on. This makes you question the production quality of this item.

* Water refill line is recessed deep inside the unit due to how the plastic casing is molded; it's impossible to read, and it's incredibly important (see above) to not go above a certain fill line. If you go above the line, water will start to come out of the front of the unit, and the rear of the unit (bottom of where the air filter starts).

* The air/lint filter on the back is easily removable. However, to clean the water filter, you must remove 6 screws and proceed to wiggle/wobble plastic pieces until you pull the back of the unit out. Why screws? Why not some retention plastic, or a clip? Better yet, why not magnets like the ones used on the coolant door? You cannot remove it entirely, because attached to it (permanently) is a bright orange hose connected somewhere within the unit; it has no slack. You need 3-4 hands to do this job.

* The water filter itself is what looks to be nylon webbing, identical to what some people use in a clothes hamper. It's just some cheap mesh with some Velcro on it so you can remove it semi-easily.

* Manual states you must clean the water filter every 2 weeks. Yup, you get to disassemble the unit that often. Fun for the whole family?

* Much to my amusement, the drainage spout (if you need to drain the unit) is directly behind where the AC power cord is. Am I the only one who thinks this is a bad idea?

Should you avoid this product? Absolutely. I'm left wishing I could give this thing negative stars; seriously, SPT should be ashamed for engineering something like this. I realize it's somewhat inexpensive, but what you get for under a hundred US dollars isn't even worth it.

It has everything you want of a fan timer, 3 speed, variable direction, remote control, but don't think this will in any way reduce the temperature in the room at best you get a fan with built-in humidifier.

It comes with ice packs, but using these doesn't make any difference either, and good luck getting them back out after using them the hole you have to drop them in is the same size as the ice pack, so once you get your hand in there and get a grip on them, you can't get your hand back out.

Update: Died after less that two years.

Even living somewhere where it is very low humidity (usually less than 10%) it does not cool enough to make it worth the noise. The noise actually kept me up at night. Get a normal fan instead it will work better in the long run.

Honest reviews on SPT SF-610 Portable Evaporative Air Cooler with Ionizer

This lilttle fan/cooler is good. First it kinda takes you back because it resembles and old home furnace but in a modern twist. This cooler works just fine for us in our living room. Which is on the small size. Now this thing isnt gonna make you cold or do the work of a real cooler but its better than a fan and it has many settings to help you adjust it just rite. The ionizer is a great feature. Im not sure how well or how much it ionizes but there are times you can tell its working. Overall I do recommend this product to anyone who needs a little help cooling down and doesnt want to spend Air Conditioner prices. Remember this little guy is great but if youre looking for a major cooling effect this isnt the item for you.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for SPT SF-610 Portable Evaporative Air Cooler with Ionizer

As I type this, it's 103 outside with 29% humidity. Inside, without the central air conditioner running, it's 102 and 30% humidity. I filled up this gizmo, turned it on, and the air coming out the front of the unit is 91 with 45% humidity.

Since this cooler works by the phase-change of water into gas, you'll need to open your windows and let the air circulate so the humidity doesn't build up to the point where you're in a sauna and start to sweat like--um--someone who's in a sauna.

It won't cool down an entire room, but if you'll be typing away on your computer like I am, you'll be sitting in one place. So sit next to the cooling breeze with an iced tea, and you'll be happy as a clam.

Here's some numbers for how it works, and what's reasonable to expect from this cooler . . .

Everyone knows that to generate steam, you apply lots of heat to water. You'll be happy to learn that if you dip a towel in water and hang it to dry, the liquid water changes to vapor, and in the process absorbs heat. How much heat, you ask?

Water weighs about 8.3 lbs per gallon. To turn one lb of water to vapor, you need to apply about 910 BTU of heat. Multiply 910 times 8.3 and you get 7553 BTU. So, if you can entice a swamp cooler to vaporize one gallon of water in one hour, it will (about) cool as much as a regular window unit rated at 7500 BTU.

However, this particular machine professes to vaporize about half a liter of water (about one pint) in an hour. One pint is 1/8 of a gallon, which is about one lb of water, so you can assume this machine will cool at the rate of 900 BTU per hour, which is about 20% of what a small window air conditioner will provide.

Nevertheless, this evaporative cooler is much more energy-efficient than a plug-in AC unit.

This cooler draws 60 watts of power. Compare to a window AC unit, which draws about 20 times as much power (1200 watts and up).

If electricity costs you 10 cents per KWH:

This cooler will operate for 160 hours (a whole week) for $1.00

A window AC unit pulling 1000 watts will operate for 10 hours for $1.00

Consider what you need to cool before you choose a cooler.

If it's just you, and you're not too fussy about sitting next to what's essentially a fan with a bit of cooling power, this will do the trick. But if you need to cool an entire room from 100 degrees F to 85 or below, you'll absolutely need a regular air conditioning unit.

One other note . . . using ice will help a bit, but not by a whole lot, because

to melt one lb of ice, it only takes about 140 BTU of energy vs. the 910 BTU it takes to vaporize water. So you get 6 times the benefit of vaporizing water compared to just melting it. No doubt it helps, but don't worry too much about it, unless you happen to work for an ice-making company and have lots of free ice available.

Bottom line -I'm happy; it does what it needs to do, because it's just me sitting next to my PC. And it's way more affordable to me, and much easier on the environment.

Honest reviews on P1103545 Carrier Humidifier Replacement Water Panel

Buying this filter online is THE WAY TO GO!

Apparently these replacement filters are not commonly carried in the large national hardware stores, thus your only solution was to pay a furnace contractor to make a home visit to simply replace these filters, an with their huge costs and the giant mark-up they charge, it was crazy. Plus, we have hard water so we need a new filter about twice a year.

I did an internet search and found these filters on AMAZON, and the price was 1/10th the price of a home visit from a contractor!

They were cheap enough that I could buy 5 year's worth of filters for the same price as a single visit/replacement from the heating contractor!

And these are the exact same filters!

They are very easy to install as well.

These pads are about 1/4" thinner than OEM product. Was expecting them to be a direct replacement. Other dimensions are identical to OEM.
