I live in a studio apartment that measures somewhere between 500 to 600 square feet. My heating and cooling is derived from one very long vent that sits about a foot and a half above the floor. I use both humidifier units along the vent, but to cover it completely I would probably need four of them. Given that my setup and the size of my apartment is not ideal, this review will focus more on the product than on how effective it is.
It's not apparent from the pictures, but the water-absorbant material is actually foam that isn't so different than the types found in packing materials. This is a bit surprising, since this material isn't as water-absorbant as a sponge. In fact, if the material is dry and you attempt to water the humidifier from above, the water will simply sit on top of the foam and will not penetrate it. I rehydrate it at a sink. The company's instructions suggest squeezing the foam while under running water so as to maximize the amount of water absorbed. It probably helps, but the foam doesn't seem to take up a whole lot of water even then. Unless you allow it to sit for a few minutes, you can also expect to drip some water in the process of moving from the sink to the vent.
One could argue that the choice of foam over traditional sponge material is for airflow purposes. However, even with my single vent (which pushes air with more force than a standard vent system found in houses), the air is forced around the humidifier and does not go through it. This isn't a bad thing for heating systems (since hot air rises anyway), but isn't optimal for air conditioning. Granted, most people will probably use this for winter, but all in all it seems as if the choice to use foam over a different material was likely cost-based.
I had a bad experience with the construction that required some work on my part. Each humidifier has six "feet" that raise it above the vent so that it does not obstruct airflow. Each foot is attached to the main frame by a nut and bolt. When I unpacked my units, many of the feet and their securing nuts were loose in the bag, and many of the feet that remained on the unit had nuts that were nowhere near fully tightened. No tools are shipped with the product, and none of my own tools were small enough to do the job. I ended up using tweezers to thread the nuts along their bolts and affix the feet to the units. I couldn't get them very tight, but it gets the job done a job I should not have had to do. The difficulty (and lack of tools) with getting the feet on and off also makes it clear that the foam was not intended to be removed from the casing for soaking.
Being unable to remove the foam leads to another complaint. While the units look pleasing enough, after two or three rehydrations I noticed that one of the bolts is showing signs of rusting. It's one out of 12 (between two units), but it's clear that it can only get worse from here. The white plastic surrounding the bolts will become a discolored yellow-brown. As the saying goes, "you get what you pay for" it's just another thing to consider.
As far as effectiveness goes, I can't really comment. As I mentioned before my setup is probably not optimal; all the same, it doesn't seem to be making a big difference. The foam does dry out over time, meaning that the air in my apartment is being humidified. It's questionable as to whether it's much more effective than setting out bowls of water and waiting for the water to evaporate from them, though.
In summary, it's a cheap product that doesn't consume electricity to use, but is a bit of a pain to rehydrate. If you have a small room and/or only need slightly more humidity it might be worth trying, but otherwise it doesn't seem worth it. It seems to me that you could make one of these yourself by propping up a wet towel or sponge an inch or so above a vent in fact, I may open up the casing on these humidifiers and replace the foam with sponges.It works...a little bit. It covers the vent and the air pressure from the vent doesn't get through the product very well.

HERA Ultrasonic Humidifer Review
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program To combat the dry air commonly found in winter, I have used humidifiers for as long as I can remember. I have used various types and I tend to prefer the ultrasonic humidifiers due to their low noise and the lack of required filters and other parts that other types of humidifiers commonly use.
Let us start with the basics. The HERA ultrasonic humidifier is basically another ultrasonic humidifier. The basic functionality of the product is not much different than any other ultrasonic humidifier that I have ever seen. The unit creates a spout of water mist, which in theory will evaporate before hitting the ground and humidify the air. The product does this and does this well.
However, the HERA Ultrasonic Humidifier has a pretty hefty price tag compared to many other models. What sets the HERA brand apart from the rest?
The HERA Ultrasonic Humidifier has touchpad controls that allow the user to customize the humidifier settings to their own preferences. The humidifier has a warm mist feature that helps take the cold, wet feeling out of the room. There is the option of three different output levels. The humidifier can be set up to shut off when it reaches a predetermined humidity level and there is a digital hygrometer to show you the humidity level of the room. The night mode will dim the LCD display if the light bothers you at night. The unit is equipped with a filter cartridge meant to reduce the hardness level of your water and an ionic silver cube meant to help keep the water bacteria free.
I personally found most of the functions on the humidifier pretty intuitive. I did have to refer to the manual a few times to figure out exactly what certain buttons did. I felt that the manual was very poorly designed. I thought the content of the manual was fine, but the layout of the manual was not very user friendly in my opinion. While I did not have problems figuring out how to fill the tank, my wife did have to take some time to figure out where the water went.
There were some things I really liked about the unit. I thought the output level of the unit was powerful. On the highest setting with the unit 2 feet off the ground, the water did not evaporate before it hit the ground. I thought the unit was very aesthetically pleasing. It is an attractive box form that can fit in a number of areas easily. I thought the warm mist was a nice option that I felt made a difference in the feel of the air in the room. One of the things I liked best was that the tank is square, which makes for easy filling. I have had other shaped tanks that were a pain to try and hold while filling with several gallons of water.
The hygrometer seemed to be fairly accurate for the most part. I put another hygrometer in the same room and the readings were pretty close. The only exception to this is when I filled the tank. The hygrometer on the humidifier would read too high for a few minutes after filling the tank. If the auto mode is being utilized, it will usually shut off until the reading corrects itself.
What I did not like about the unit is the concept of the filter cartridge. I live in an area with pretty hard water. There is a water softener in my house, but I know many people do not have one. I have used ultrasonic humidifiers for years before I put my water softener in and I will admit after about 3 or 4 winters, I will usually have to clean the humidifier out with vinegar and a soft brush. While the idea of the filter cartridge did intrigue me, it is a disposable part and one that might need to be changed frequently.
The humidifier comes with a test strip. The test strip appears to be German and measures in units of Degrees of Hardness (dH) and the instructions measures water hardness in "pink boxes." I took a sample of untreated water in my house and using test strips, I measured it to be about 250 ppm (parts per million) or about 15 gpg (grains per gallon). Using the provided test strip, it measured about 17 dH or about 3.5 pink boxes. In my later research, I found that the gpg and dH measurements are not identical, but for this purpose, they are close enough to use interchangeably.
So why am I spending so much time talking about water hardness? The filter cartridge life is dependant on water hardness. With 15gpg/17dH water hardness level at my house without the water softener, I can expect the filter cartridge to last for 20 to 40 gallons of water or 10 to 20 fills of the tank. At the time of this writing, a Stadler Form A-112 replacement cartridge runs $15 to $20. The Stadler Form Replacement Ionic Silver Cube is supposed to be replaced annually and currently that runs another $25.
My treated water is about 1 gpg. According to the manual, at this hardness level, the filter should last about 115 gallons of water or about 58 fills.
While I liked the humidifier, the price of replacement cartridges and silver cubes can be quite expensive. Both of these items are optional to use, but if you take those aspects away, then this is just another ultrasonic humidifier and then there are many more cost effective alternatives available. Those alternatives might not be as stylish and the controls might not be as user friendly, but when it comes down to it, without the filter cartridge, my $50 Sunbeam has most of the same functions as this one.
Overall, I thought it was an excellent product worthy of 5 stars. However, keep in mind that there is potentially quite an expense to utilize the product to its full potential. For that, I am deducting 2 stars.
TO FILL THE UNIT:
Lift the reservoir off of the unit using the built in handle on top
Carry it to your sink. It is a sealed unit. No water will drip from it.
Flip the reservoir upside down in your sink.
Remove the fill cover. The fill cover is about 3" in diameter. The filter is attached to the inside of it so when you remove the cover you are also removing the filter. It opens and closes with a 1/4 turn.
Fill the reservoir and replace the cover/filter
Walk the reservoir back over to the unit and put it in place. It simply sets on top of the base.
The most difficult part of this entire process is turning the reservoir right side up in your sink when it is full of water. It now has a couple gallons of water in it, so it's a bit heavy. It might be a bit difficult for someone very old or with weak hands.
For the person who said that the floor was wet, the instructions do clearly state NOT to put it on the floor. We have ours on our kitchen countertop which works quite well except when we have the gas range on. There is something about the charged ions this thing puts into the air that must mess with the oxygen and hence the flame on our stovetop.
For the person who has a problem with his hard water and this unit. I would suggest that it is not the fault of this product. You will face the same issue with ANY high-end unit that uses this technology.

I run this unit constantly at the highest output level and refill every morning (and night) and it is just about shutting off for low-water when I go to bed (about 15 hours for full tank cycle using max loads).
Just a couple complaints:
Refilling the unit is ridiculous. I recommend placing unit near a kitchen sink that has a hose attachment that you can spray into the tank as the tank needs to be held upside down. This causes you to set the tank on its "head" while you fill it. Thus this smashes the directional vents for the unit and creates a very fragile process. I have learned to set the tank on the edge of something while refilling so the vents are not bearing the weight of the entire tank.
Secondly I would say the tank needs to be larger. Yes I understand that this unit is made for easy carrying by most people etc, but a larger tank option would be nice.
On to the Hera. It looks good, like a tapered black slab. It's just the right size (not a hulk). The control panel is very intuitive (with mist levels, a hot/ cold choice), and a humidity setting (in increments of 10%). There is a night mode that really dims the light to almost invisible. Really, what's not to like?
Two (and half) things. First, in night mode it automatically seems to go to a low mist level. Not sure why. Second, and the reason we returned this, is that that hygrometer didn't work. After running it two days in a small room it still showed 30% humidity. As I mentioned this was a key feature from our point of view. I didn't feel like trying again with a replacement because I had seen this complaint in other reviews (I should have listened!) The smaller complaint was that for the first few minutes there was water leaking from the bottom seam or joint on the water tank. Obviously this would be really bad, but the leak stopped after the first few minutes and did not return.
In fairness, I think this is an excellent machine, but don't get it for the built-in hygrometer. I suppose I should dock more stars for the fact that a promised feature seems to regularly not work on these machines, but I liked it enough otherwise.
This is a really neat package that contains just about all of the basic requirments in less than one-half of the space. Unlike other reviewers my unit came with an entry level type of review and it works as promised. The unit comes with a list of options including "Humidity", "Output", "Warm Mist", "Night Mode", and "Auto Mode" and they all work as directed. Unless I have missed something everything works as promised and really without any difficulty. I find the filling of the Transparent water tank a bit of a problem but overall it works as planned.
For me the unit works as directed. It shows once again that form and function can be combined into a really neat package. I like other humidifiers but this one is now the leader in both design and functiom.

I'm giving it 5 stars when I should really give it 4 only because the other reviews are really addressing the instructions rather than the product. You really have to read them carefully. This thing is engineered actually quite well. Admittedly it is not very intuitive.TO FILL THE UNIT:

Honest reviews on HERA Ultrasonic Humidifer
Humidifiers is one of frustrating product categories. Almost everything out there seems to get mediocre reviews or have some fatal flaw. My own requirements were as follows: (1) Something with a hot and cold mist. (2) Something with a very pleasing form. (3) Something that had the hope of not becoming a bacterial breeding ground. (4) Something with a precise hygrometer built in. (5) Something with the capacity to run at least one night. The Stadler form devices promise many of these. We chose the Hera over the the other model with a hygrometer (the William) for one main reason. There had been complaints on the William that the lights are too bright at night, and this was a very big concern with a baby in the room.On to the Hera. It looks good, like a tapered black slab. Honeywell Humidifier Replacement Filter, HC-888N Review
The photos show a Honewell box with filters that have a blue dust catcher on the outside. The items I received were generic, not boxed and had no dust catcher. This is false advertising. Boo!

I received the order promptly, but the filters weren't the Honeywell HC888 that I ordered. The company had substituted another filter, and the diminsions listed are a bit different. I contacted them, and they stated that they were interchangable. I was disappointed that the product delivered was not the product I ordered, and only hope that they work as well as the ones I thought I was going to receive. I've had a problem with the vornado humidifier wicks/water growing orange algae and becoming quite stale and brown on high humidity days in the winter. I was replacing filters a number of times through the winter and cleaning out the humidifier pan. This has been great at solving that problem, I use about 1/2 the recommended amount. I have a Vornado evaporation humidifier, and I've always had issues trying to keep the wicks clean. I bought this on a whim and it seems to be doing great so far! My only concern was what chemicals were in it, but you use a tiny amount (maybe 1tbsp) in 2 gallons of water. I have a number of Vornado humidifiers in my home. With two toddler twin daughters, keeping the air as free of bacteria is important to me. This product seems to be doing a very good job. I have noticed an improvement in the wicks that draw up the water: no signs of bacterial aging. While I am not a biologist, nor have run any scientific tests, it seems to work with no side effects.The supplier promptly shipped the water treatment as described. There was no communications, as none was necesary. The purchase just went through as it should, with no hitches.
I will buy this product again.

I had the product about 2 weeks, and decided to clean it, according to the provided maintenance manual. I've noticed that the gold paint on the membrane was in very poor condition and small chips of gold paint were all over. However, the manual says the membrane should be cleaned with the soft provided brush. So I did. That completely destroyed the gold paint layer and the device is not producing vapor any more. The most annoying thing is that the warranty is valid only if the purchased device is registered within 10 days of the purchase, which I had not done (didn't have time to read everything that came with the device). I've just sent email to the support and asked for help with this... We'll see. In the meantime, DO NOT BUY THIS DEVICE UNTIL THE COMPANY CLEARLY STATES THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN FIXED. Further, I find annoying that the warranty is invalid without registration. Perhaps we should be buying from a company that has more confidence in their products?Update: 2 weeks later, I'm still waiting for the problem to be resolved. After a lot of explaining (I spent roughly an hour on the phone and sending emails), they told me someone would contact me and tell me how to printout the shipping label (for return). A week has passed and nobody contacted me...
While I'm waiting to solve the return, I'd also like to comment on how the device was working, while it was working. The device is fairly quiet itself, but the water is occasionally bubbling, which can be loud. They could have solved this differently to avoid the bubbling. I had no problems with white dust some other reviewers mention, but that might be due to the softness of the tap water I'm using. The vapor does have kind-of metallic/plastic smell, but it's almost undetectable unless you are very close to the vapor, so that didn't bother me too much. The design is quite functional, but I haven't managed to fill the tank without spilling some water around, because the tank is immersed into the base, which always contains some water. Thus, if you take the tank off, the water drips off it. I haven't checked how precise the built-in hygrometer is, but I found the device reliably switching off and on according to the desired humidity setting. So, although I can't comment on the absolute precision of the hygrometer, the relative precision seems to be fine. If the device were actually working, I'd give it 3.5, perhaps 4 stars. But because it is not working, I'd suggest you wait until Air-O-Swiss announces on their website that they have reliably fixed the membrane problem. The returns are just too much hassle.
Final update: Around mid-July (a month after I started the painful process of return), I got a phone call from Air-O-Swiss asking me for some number their support sent me by email a couple of weeks back (!?). I didn't understand the point of that phone call, they could have just checked their database/email inbox. A week later I was asked to provide the details about the device (probably for the 10th time). Finally, I got the label and shipped the device back. The pinnacle of the Air-O-Swiss incompetence was the email from July 27th (after they received the device): "We found a discrepancy in the information on file for your defective humidifier. So, that we may send you the correct replacement unit, would you please describe the unit you sent back to us? Or, can you tell us the model number of the humidifier? (example...AOS-7131, AOS-7135, AOS-7145, etc...)" This is simply the most striking example of total incompetence I have ever seen. They have the defective device on their desk, they should have my order in their database, and they are wasting my time asking about the model??
Finally, I got the replacement device on Aug 5th, but haven't yet tested it, as I was on vacation. The whole return process took slightly more than 1.5 months, and probably 10-or-so hours of my time. Their support exhibited total incompetence and disrespect for my time.
I just checked the membrane, it seems to be in a much better shape than in the first device.
Another update: The new membrane lasted about 3 months and then disintegrated, the same as the first one. I'll return it and ask my money back. Long story short: This is not a product, this is a piece of junk.

My unit worked well out of the box and appeared to be a great little unit, but the brassy/gold coating on the ultrasonic membrane is almost completely gone after only a couple months of use and the unit no longer produces a mist. It appears I have the exact same problem as the previous reviewer James. I can only assume that they got a bad batch of membranes and will have this remedied promptly, and am returning the unit under its 3-year warranty for a replacement. I should have realized something was rotten by the giant monument of Air-O-Swiss boxes lined up against the wall at the store. I got tired of cheap, crappy humidifiers that required weekly scrub downs, so this seemed like the perfect alternative. At first everything was great. I used the EZ-cal cleaner once a week, and the humidifier kept my room very nice and humid. I kept up my end of the bargain, shelling out $8 for 3 packs of cleaning powder every 3 weeks, but the humidifier gradually became less and less reliable. At this point it puts out a sputter of humidity, and some nights it doesn't put out any. When I wake up the water level is exactly where it was the night before. I have to play with the dials like I'm picking a lock to get humidity, and even then it comes out in irregular bursts (set at maximum level). I have treated this humidifier like the expensive object it is, no drops of bumps, and it's almost useless. After one winter season of using this humidifier, it just stopped working altogether. Customer service walked me through possible fixes with no results. He then transferred me to the people who arrange for returns and I was stonewalled there. They took my email address and told me someone would be in contact but it never happened. I called again and after many apologies I was told that someone would contact me by email to arrange for return. Never heard from them. Sunbeam Humidifier Wick Filter Review
This filter was actually a bit too large for our humidifier (even though it was one of the ones listed as compatible). It sort of works but once we used it, we couldn't really return it. I've trimmed it to fit, but it doesn't quite hold together the same.
