*UPDATED REVIEW*

This was purchased in January 2013 and used for a few weeks, then I carefully cleaned, dried and stored it according to the instructions, which I read very carefully and followed precisely, then put it safely in the cabinet where it has been undisturbed since then. Took it out yesterday and now it only will give a red light and won't start humidifying. Manual says red light means tank needs to be filled, but it is all the way full. I tried cleaning the disc with the vinegar solution, again following instructions. That was no help. It's dead. I'm pretty irked about this and will be contacting Pureguardian to see if they will stand behind this product and fix or replace it.

ORIGINAL REVIEW

This does seem to humidify the room pretty effectively and it's quiet. It humidifies much better than the Vicks one we bought before this, but then again this one also costs twice as much. I'm not really sure if this was worth the price.

I like the slim shape of it and the relatively small footprint it takes up on the dresser. However the plastic it's made of is kinda flimsy; not as sturdy or as ergonomically designed as the much cheaper Vicks brand humidifiers.

It also seems to get everything around it pretty wet if we put it in the high setting, moreso than the last ultrasonic we owned.

My big complaint though is that it's hard to fill the tank because there's nothing to hold onto when carrying it or holding it under the bathtub faucet. It is too tall to fit under any of the sink faucets except the tall kitchen faucet, which is on another floor of the house so no way we'd go that far every time it needs to be filled. So it's sort of like trying to hold out a brick with one hand while it fills.

Also every time after filling when you flip it back over to mount back into the base, a little water dribbles. So we have learned to flip it over while still standing in the bathroom then carry it the rest if the way into the bedroom.

If this had cost $40-50 I think I'd be satisfied enough with it, but at this price I expected a little better.

Super quiet, super low heat emission, and the 70 hour tank really helps me just leave it on and not worry about it (I have instruments in the room, and need to control an environment with a reasonable amount of moisture climate changes really effects them)

I've only used this for one night, but I felt compelled to write about it since other people may be wondering about it or suffering in the dryness of their homes.

I just moved to LA, and the dryness has been a huge, unexpected adjustment. I have known that I needed a humidifier for some weeks now, but a recent throat illness (and new plants dying) prompted me to quicken my search. As you probably know, the problem with humidifiers is that none of them are highly rated and under $100, or the ratings are split between 5s and faulty-product 1s. After going back and forth, I decided I finally just needed to GET ONE and I chose this one (from Target) because it had no reviews and Pureguardian's other products had relatively high reviews.

Getting water into the tank is very easy (cap on the bottom, I did it in my bathtub), and I think it holds around a gallon of water. The control is manual, and it puts out a good, steady stream of steam. Because it's ultrasonic, it uses a high-pitched noise and not a heating element to create steam. It makes a small machine-running noise, but I am a really light sleeper and I slept fine with it. Another good thing is that it only has a very small LED light that will not keep you up if you are a light-sensitive sleeper (like me). This one also advertises having "SilverClean" technology (never says what that IS exactly) that fights against mold and mineral buildup. We'll see how true that is in a few weeks.

I woke up this morning without my usual burning throat; this machine didn't cure me but I feel like I can actually get better without the added irritation of dry air. My bedroom is small, about 12' x 12'. I ran it all night (10 hrs on "medium"), used about half the tank of water, and the windows this morning are wet with condensation. It's good for me because my mattress is on the floor, so the steam billows out and slinks down to where I am before dispersing into the room. The weirdest thing about the ultrasonic technology is that the steam never gets warm, so my room is filled with visible humidity, but is the same cool temperature. From what I've read, the benefit of ultrasonic vs. hot steam is that if the machine doesn't cut off when it's low on water, ultrasonic won't melt through your floor/counter, or worse start a fire. There were no leaks from the machine, and it does have an automatic shut off if the water gets low.

Again, I've only used it one night, so take my review with a grain of salt. I'll write another review in a few weeks when I have used it more. I hope this can be of use to someone who urgently needs to make a decision. This seems like a good buy for a small room, and hopefully in a few weeks I can say it's a great one.

Honest reviews on Pure Guardian H1300 Ultrasonic Humidifier

Everything I wanted. It works, it's quite, and it humidifies like a dream. While I read some reviews complaining it was hard to refill, it's really not. While there are no actual handles on the tank, I don't find this a problem and it locks into place very easily and doesn't spill. I can see how it may be a problem with someone who has arthritis in their hands. I love it.

Compared to a thirty dollar Vicks we had for years, this one is slightly better, but not sure if it's worth almost twice as much. If you are looking for a humidifier just to run for one room this one should do. So far we've had it for about a month and no major issues, but they should've integrated the power supply in the base just to simplify the overall system.

So, it's July 1st and air conditioning goes out for part of my office. The part which happens to contain the servers & telecom gear. Building maintenance looked at the unit, contractor looked at the unit -it needs to be replaced...but given the July 4th holiday, it's not going to happen for at least a week.

Hence, my purchase of these blowers. I'm using these blowers to move air from areas which have working air conditioning to areas where the dead air conditioner is located. So far, so good. Was 86F in the warmest office, now 78F and comfortable. I'd imagine after a few more hours it'll be even closer to normal.

Noise levels: High is louder than acceptable for any great length of time in an office. That said, it's only wind/air movement noise with no motor whine whatsoever. Not an objectionable noise, but it's definitely there. Medium is far quieter and still moves a good amount of air. This is the speed we're leaving them on. Even our most ADHD employee hasn't yipped about the noise on medium.

Air movement: Excellent on all levels. It truly pushes air a long distance compared to traditional axial fans, like box & table fans. Even 20+ feet away I can still feel it strongly.

Durability: Time will tell. I'll certainly post updates if/when they happen. The housing is made of a nice thick-ish polycarbonate in high-vis yellow, so no extra caution signs are needed. It's someone's own fault if they happen to trip over it.

Size: It's difficult to tell from the photo, but these are substantially smaller than the commercial units, about half the size. Those put out anywhere from 2000-4000 CFM of air vs. this one's 500 CFM, but bigger isn't always better. Bigger = noisier and in an office, the higher CFM would cause papers to fly everywhere. This little guy can be stored just about anywhere and doesn't weigh a ton. It does put out far more than the Lasko models I've seen in the various stores.

In previous times, I used to keep a few old central AC blowers around for work like this and just soldered/welded some chicken wire over the various openings to keep fingers out of danger. This looks far better and is overall quieter. Certainly safer!

Update: 1 month later

Still 5 stars. After 2.5 weeks, the AC was finally replaced at my office. Wrapped the cord up on this little guy.... then the rains came and started seeping in through the floor joists. Back in service this little guy went again, this time drying carpets. Great little blower. I'm very glad we've got a couple in our maintenance inventory now.

Made of that impossible to crack molded polyethylene like the big commercial units. Not high impact plastic. Starts out as a baby with a small whine or faint scrape. (I have two of these). They get quiet when the burrs wear off the squirrel cage inside. Move a LOT of air, mine are 3 years old; so MANY uses.

They'd be worth at least $100-120 to me if I knew how awesome they are.

This little baby puts out more air than all the mini squirrel cage type fans we have ever tried. Super light, small, fits anywhere and does a great job. Cheapest out there too as far as cost goes, but the most well put together air mover for the mini type. Great job Shop Vac!

Honest reviews on Shop-Vac 1032000 Mighty Mini Air Mover

i only write this review because i had questions that were not answered by listening to other reviews.

1. how powerful is it? (i dont know what CFM is since I am using this for home use)

when the fan is on full speed, the blower makes you feel like you have your head stuck out the window on the freeway and are going 80mph. (this is how my face felt when i put it in front of the blower)

2. is it loud?

it honestly is no louder than a ceiling fan (maybe a little louder, but not much) way more quite than a box fan

i got the product because i live in an apartment and there is no airflow, this product works great for moving the air through the big rooms. (point the fan up toward the ceiling and it feels like you have a ceiling fan)

despite the pictures the fan is not a high gloss plastic but rather a matte finish.

I bought this to help me dry the carpets in my truck while I spent weeks hunting down a pesky leak. It was great, it's small and light weight but this thing moves air. It's also really quiet for what it does and come with a plug on the unit for a small light or other light load. Multiple speed settings and I do agree that the dial feels a bit flimsy, but I've had zero trouble with it after almost two months of use where I'd drag it out to drive way for a couple of days a week. I'd buy this again in a heartbeat!

When I received it and put it in my daughters room no steam would come out, I contacted the company and the responded right away and I had a new with in a few days and it works great. I gave 5 stars not only for the product but also for the customer service, they weren't like some companies I have dealt with either giving you the run around or never respond, they were very apologetic and took care of it right away.

I'm not trying to be lame, but this is a replacement filter (the exact type that came with the SU-4010) -I cannot really get too excited over a water filter. I have no measurement equipment to even know if filters make a difference, but I'm going to assume they do. This fits and works perfectly with the SU-4010, which if you want an awesomely awesome humidifier I don't think you could do better. The SU-4010 is essentially silent and easily gets even larger rooms up to 80+% humidiy if needed. I have extreme excema, I keep the unit on 24/7 on its lowest output setting -keeps the room or rooms at about 65-70% humidity and it has no problem keeping up. Go buy the SU-4010, then order a few of these filter to have on hand. I do think they should have them in different colours...then I might be more excited by their arrival. Neon purple anyone?

Just mentioning that I uploaded a picture showing the actual shape of the filter I received, which differs from the shape shown in the default product image. The filter is actually round, which matches the shape of the original filter that came with this humidifier. I don't know if the hexagonal filter currently shown for this product will fit in this unit, but I have my doubts considering the filter on this model is designed to fit inside the tank and the opening in the tank is also round... but it seems the discrepancy might be moot if all others who purchased this filter also received round filters.

BTW, I gave it 4 of 5 stars only because, although I feel the humidifier works as I expect it to, I feel it's over-priced and I'd much prefer that the filter be redesigned to reduce waste, perhaps by making the plastic casing reusable.

I have lived in Chicago for many years, then moved to Colorado 28 yrs. ago. Went from humidity to ZERO humidity. Lots of sinus and resp. problems from the dryness. Ran humidifiers here but too much white dust if ultrasonic. I tried the distilled water which was great and cut down on the dust, but it was really expensive even at $1/bottle if you are using it 4 times a day etc. So bought this filter and I can use tap water right from the sink and no white dust. GREAT!! Our water is so hard here, the humidifiers are put to the test. But I am happy with this. I also use those small mineral balls you throw inside the tank to keep the algae and mold from forming. Every morning, after running all night, I open everything up, air dry it and let it sit open till night time for more humidity. Then clean everything once a week at least with antibacterial soap and weak bleach.

Honest reviews on SPT ION F-4010 Exchange Replacement Filter for SU-4010 Humidifier

This fits my SPT SU-4010 Ultrasonic Dual-Mist Warm/Cool Humidifier with Ion Exchange Filteras it supposed to, but lasts for only a couple weeks. Maybe this is all that is to be expected with Chicago water, but I'm constantly cleaning slime and deposits from the inside of the humidifier base and mist path, sometimes only a week after replacing with a new filter... However, I don't know of any alternative in terms of an ion exchange filter replacement.

I ordered this filter directly from Amazon. The filter I received is octagonal shaped, as shown above, but it replaced the round filter for my Sunpentown SU-4010 humidifier and works just fine.

So Ive had the fan for several years and its been a great fan, I love that I never have to turn it on or off, just automatically comes on when it gets hot enough. I bought mine on Amazon at least 3 years ago, and recently my fan hasn't been working that great, its been spinning very slow or not at all. I finally looked into it and most people said you have to buy a new thermoelectric module also known as TEG, this is the thing that actually creates the electricity from heat, I found these for $20-33, but then did a little more research and found out that there is a very easy fix for it. If your fan is spinning slow or not at all, maybe from age or overheating it try this out... Unscrew the 2 main screws holding the unit together, this will split the fan in half, there is the thermoelectric module sandwiched in between the top and bottom half, scrape off the silver colored heat sink compound on one side of the thermoelectric module then put some CPU heat sink compound on it and put it back together. This CPU compound can be purchased at most computer stores. I did not have the CPU heat sink compound, so I researched and found that silicone grease would work just fine, so I used dielectric grease (which is silicone based) and it worked great!!! Very quick and easy fix and didnt cost me a penny! My Fan is now spinning really fast again just like it did when it was new, saved myself $33 on not having to buy a new thermoelectric module! Good Luck!

I'd seen some reviews that said that the fan did not work unless it was in a specific spot on your wood burner. Once my stove got a good fire going, the fan started spinning and I could move it to ANY spot on my stove top and it kept going. You can definitely feel the difference in the heat distribution in the room. I used to turn on an electric fan that had a timer so it would turn off later after the fire went down, but NOW with this fan I can just forget about it. It turns on by itself and turns off when there is no more heat to dissipate.

This would be perfectl for a regular free standing stove, it would be worth the money to have one on each side of the flue! I can't believe how much air it pushes and it's completely silent. We have a fan on the insert that rattles and clangs so badly that we have to turn the tv up twice the normal volume to drown it out. This little fan sits on top of our insert off to the side where it can pull cooler air into the fins and even when it is running top speed it is completely silent. It's really easy to tell how hot the fire is by how fast the blade is turning too, helps to prevent overfiring and also lets you know when it's time to throw another log on if you're trying to idle the fire along slowly. Wonderful product! I would really like for them to make one that's for fireplace inserts tho, a short squat little guy that will sit under the mantle and pull all the heat off the top of the insert and push it out into the room.

Honest reviews on Caframo Limited Ecofan Ultrair

We purchased this ecofan in 1998 and it works just as great today as when we first set it on our wood stove. Our winters are very cold with lots of snow; this fan circulates the warm air from the wood stove throughout the house as long as leave the bedroom doors open. I cannot say enough about how great this fan is and how well it works. Nothing to break down, no electricity cost, just the best ever.

I have been using this humidifier for 5 years. Here's how I keep the filter fresh.

I fill the tank at night before bed, run it on low, and by the next night the tank is empty and the filter is all dry. I flip the filter, fill the tank, and start over again. If I need to add water more frequently (on a dry day or if I want higher humidity), I still have to LET THE FILTER DRY OUT and FLIP the filter BEFORE I add new water.

So, I run it 24/7, and it lasts about 7 to 8 weeks because

(1) I let the humidifier run until the filter is bone DRY for EACH tank of water.

(2) I flip the filter every time I put a new tank of water on it.

(3) I put the tank and tray in the dishwasher once every 7 to 10 days.

These are what the instructions say to do, and I have found it WORKS! I need two or three filters per season.

If you keep adding water without letting the tray and filter dry, your filter will get stinky and yellow in 2 weeks and you will be unhappy!

If you find the filter is soggy, let the humidifier run until it dries out. Make sure there is no water in the tank and tray, and it will dry out faster in the humidifer (20 30 minutes on high?) than in the air.

Don't be unhappy: let the filter dry out between tanks.

First the reviewers that recount experiences of bad smells from their filters need to undrstand that wick humidifiers, like the HB 05920 and 05921, require that an anti-bacterial solution be added to the water tank when filling. This solution, I use "Golden Solution" (try Google), prevents mold and algae from forming on the filter and in the tank. This prevents the odors and gets you a couple months out of your filter if you run your unit 24/7 like me.

Second there are other replacement filters on the market that are the same size as the HB True Air replacement filter and cost half as much.

I use two HB True Air humidifiers and usually stock up on 4 filters each for the 6 months they run continously in my loft. I have a couple True Air filters and a couple Best Air filters right now and cannot tell the difference between them when it comes to performance. The name brand True Air's keep their shape better, but for nine bucks, I'm not worried about the asthetics of the inside of my humidifier.

Hope this helps those who use these filters.

I've been through so many humidifiers that get moldy and nasty so that you just have to throw them out. My sister spent a lot of mony on a Hunter that is supposedly clean free, but it always had mold in the standing water when I lifted the tank for refill. This Hamilton Beach is a wonder. I use it every night year round. If you follow the directions and put the parts in the dishwasher once a week and turn the filter every time you refill the tank it works like a charm. The only time I have had a filter go bad is when I go on a trip and it just gets moldy. I haven't found a way around that. But otherwise, I can use one for months without a problem. It's all in following the directions. And it helps to change the water in the tank at least every other day. I recommend this item to everyone.
