Note: I've only tested this product for 36 hours so far.

Reason for purchase: I'm currently without air conditioning at the beginning of July in Arizona and looking for something to survive the heat. I've spent a good deal of time researching products to suit my current situation as a normal fan is not cutting it. I looked at many evaporative products but most require a nearby window to attach a hose to vent the hot exhaust. Unfortunately the room I'm in has none and the nearest window is simply to far away.

Opening the box: The front of the main body is white with black at the top. For some reason to me it looked silver in the pictures. Any how it is attractive but I have to agree with the other posts that the display with the moving LED lights reminds me of 1980's. Like it's just there to look cool but no longer does. It features 8 buttons, 4 on each side of the LED display, 7 of which have a function and one is for aesthetics. They are clearly labeled On, Off, Speed, Mist, Swing, Wind & Timer. The product is lightweight for it's size and inexpensively built but to be expected for the price and seems solid enough.

Water Tank: Make sure you have a Phillips screwdriver on hand to remove a single screw that secures the access panel to the water tank in the back of unit. Not sure why they don't mention the screw in the instructions or why they even use one as the back panel is already secured by two plastic clips you press down on to open it. Anyhow once removed I left the screw off for easier future access. Removing and filling the small water tank (under a half gallon) is simple and of course the colder the water used the better. A full tank of water seems to last about 10 hours or so if you have the Mist setting turned on the entire time and again refilling with cold water from the fridge only takes a minute.

Operation of the Unit and Features:

Fan operates well and shifts smoothly through it's 3 speeds... Low, Med & High. Fan is also pretty quiet compared to many I've used over the years so you can sleep peacefully undisturbed with misting on and fan speed set on med or low. In the past I've found it difficult sleeping with a fan directly on me as you wake up with an extremely dry mouth but set on low and with the misting feature turned on this seems to help.

Mist (ultrasonic humidifier) flows out in front of the fan at a constant rate when turned on and works independently of the fan's Speed setting. So turning the fan off doesn't turn the mist off if it's on. To do that you would simply press the Mist button again. And of course you can run the fan without the mist on. When you run out of water the Mist light stays on and nothing changes at all except no mist comes out of course. Mist is definitely cooler then the air in my room moving through the fan so this is an advantage over a standard fan. Also the air evaporates the mist reducing overall heat.

The Swing option is interesting and when turned on rotates the front plastic grill as a way of spreading the air flow around by deflecting it in different directions giving you a slight oscillating effect. This is a unique way of making up for the fact that this product doesn't have a swiveling head like a standard fan.

Wind has 3 modes... Normal, Natural and Sleeping (which has nothing to do with the Timer). Normal mode is controlled by whatever Speed you have set. Natural is suppose to mimic actual wind and cycles through the 3 different Speeds including Off and never stays on any Speed for more than a few seconds. The directions say Sleeping mode will run on High for 30 mins, Med for 30 mins and finally Low until mode is exited, unit is turned off, or timer expires if set. This would be a usable feature if this were the case but it is simply not true. Sleeping mode as far as my testing goes is exactly the same as Natural mode and simply cycles thru each speed. The fact that this feature is advertised in the directions but doesn't work is my biggest gripe.

Timer can be set in one hour increments upto 9 hours.

Tidbits: The Mist and Swing buttons simply toggle on and off, while Speed, Wind and Timer buttons cycle through their choices and On & Off are separate buttons that do not toggle. Bottom front of unit has a see thru water tank viewer that glows blue when Mist is turned on. Unit beeps when any button is pressed. Remote control requires 2 AAA batteries not included. It is simple to use and buttons are labeled.

In Closing: I do like it even though I was hoping this product would reduce the temperature of my Entire room down to a more comfortable level. But in the middle of summer, with my computer running all day, which produces considerable heat in my small room, this product doesn't really pull that off. However it does pretty well over time when not competing with the added heat from my computer and definitely provides a cool comfortable space around you even with the computer on.

As a unique Misting Fan this product works well as a personal cooling device so for the price and that purpose I give it 4 stars. As a way to evacuate all the heat out of your room on a hot summer day it is simply not that product. I hope this was helpful enough to help you decide either way whether or not this product is right for you. Thanks for reading.

When I purchased this product my expectations where much greater than those advertised by the manufacturer. In some ways this misting fan is really more than a room humidifier. Having worked with misting systems it was my HOPE that this unit would cool a room by several degrees. While I was disappointed that it did not cool a whole room, it did function very well

as an individual cooler. I ran a few tests on this unit and here is what I found:

a) This unit will reduce ambient temperature by an average of 4 to 5 degrees

when measured 6 inches from the exhaust side of the fan. The humidity in

the room at the time of the measurement was 42%.

b) A subject placed 6' from the unit with the fan set a #2 and the water vaporizer working

felt cooler and very comfortable in a room whose ambient temperature was 80 degrees. The same

subject placed 9 feet from the unit in an open room 10' x 12' did not notice any significant

change in temperature. The room temperature did not drop at all.

c) Humidity readings in a 10'x12' room steadily increased over time. After 9 hours of

operation the humidity rose from 42% to 63%.

d) The fan is very quiet at the lowest speed setting. The rotating grill also provided adequate directional

changes for the air flow.

e) The instrument panel at the top of unit provides reasonable control of the unit but without adequate

documentation it was troublesome to learn how to change the setting or what each setting provided.

f) There is only one MAJOR complaint. In the middle of the instrument panel is a graphic which cycles

continuously from left to right changing the lines from green to red. According to the manufacturer's

representative this meter illustrates "...how much humidity the unit is putting out." Since the

unit is always delivering water vapor unless there is no water in the tank or the vaporizer is not

working it is useless and very annoying.

I bought this "fan" taken with its unique modern design and features. But it has a drawback in that it has omitted a constant low setting in sleep mode. It has this weird setting that cycles on slow, medium and high(burst?) when in sleep mode that cannot be changed. This is stupid. If I want a sleep mode, I want low and almost silent. The swing mode is unique (as the unit does not rotate), the misting feature works well and it cools OK with a quiet fan motor. It's digital "light graph" is overdone and can't be dimmed or turned off. I'm using it in the CA Bay area, so the humidity it produces could be an issue. Also, the remote will turn off my other electronics. Remote came with no batteries (annoying to have to go buy AAA's if you don't have some around). It's stand out white and black color will demand ones visual attention. Please take note of its size. A truly gadget ridden product that a geek will enjoy, and others might not.

Honest reviews on SPT 12" Indoor Misting Fan

. . . someone designed a humidifier around a great fan. A little hard to clean, but it works great. Make sure the hoses are connected well, as mine were loose after shipping and the unit leaked until I realized the hoses weren't tight. It's been a workhorse in my home in Denver, running daily and has worked perfectly for 3 months.

This fan is both quiet, and cooling. It's humidifier works great to send a cooling, but not too moist mist. The fan speeds are good. I never need to put it to the maximum. The louver on the front rotates, so it moves the breeze around without having to move the whole fan around. Overall, this is a really excellent product. Very well thought out.

This was the most complicated annoying machine I have ever owned. It took two men to figure it out and STILL it kept popping out of my window

and, the plug kept popping out spilling water all over the floor.

I returned it to Amazon for full refund and shipping with the CUT piece that did not help in fitting in window.

I needed an AC such as this for a roll out window in my bedroom. This $363 piece of junk worked ok for less than 2 months before it started making a noise so loud, half of my apt complex could hear it. Im not in a position to purchase another AC so I have to suffer the rest of the summer. I would not suggest this product or anything Soleus to anyone.

These are generic pads that fit several different brands of humidifiers. This 8 inch wide size pad must be trimmed to fit the 5.25 inch wide drum on my Lobb humidifier. It is easy to trim the pads with a box cutter. These are very low priced compared to the OEM pads and they work just fine.

This unit works reasonably well in my small bedroom that has large windows (no windows that open however) that face into the morning sun. The room can get quite hot and stuffy with no way to circulate air from nearby sources. This room does have darkening curtains to cut down the sun load and I am sure that gives the cooler some assist. I live in the pacific northwest state of Washington where the humidity is moderate. This cooler sits on a table at the foot of the bed. I ice it up and put it on high breeze and oscillate and it works quite well. I can sleep comfortably. That being said, I have awoken to some very hot mornings and the unit blowing warm air which makes me more uncomfortable. At this point if I add cool water and ice and the ice packs it will cool the room down fairly quickly. I don't mind the hum of the motor noise and the wind sound effects. It helps mask annoying noises and is actually pleasing to me and helps me fall off to sleep quicker. I am not sure how effective the ion option is. It is not recommended for large rooms or very hot areas but for a small room, office cubicle or dorm, that you need to cool down to a comfortable degree, it works fairly well. It is small and streamlined and easy to port from room to room. It looks attractive. It tends to cool an area directly in front of it from about 1-5 feet. Oscillation will get you a few feet at the sides as well. The timer is a nice plus. I would not recommend this unit to cool down a large room...it simply won't do it. But for a small room space and ice water added it should be effective enough to do a decent job for the money.

This unit is nothing to write home about but I guess it serves its purpose. I purchased this fan for my small studio apartment. To be honest I'm slightly disappointed. If you are looking for a medium sized unit for an office or small apartment this unit does help.

That being said, don't be misled by the air cooling feature. This is not an air conditioner and will only give you slightly cooler air flow. The fan on high isn't really powerful. The two reusable ice packs are nice so that you can rotate them in. The timer control works well so that you can set it to run when you leave or go to sleep and it will continue to run for 1, 2, 4, or 8 hours. The setup and controls are very user friendly. You can get this unit up and running within 2 minutes of opening the box.

I don't think I would buy this unit again. I'd probably look for something with a higher speed fan or something that cools the air a little bit better.

Best Deals for Unistar DF158 Multi-functional 4-in-1 Portable Air Cooler

I was tired of sweating to death in my hot cubicle, and all my old fan did was blow the hot air around. This unit did the trick. I'm not sure it would cool off an entire room in a home, but it works nicely in my cube. Also, because it humidifies and oscillates, it doesn't dry out my contact lenses like my old fan did. It's a little noisier than the fan, but not enough to be heard by my fellow cube-dwellers. The little freezer bottles that come with it are just that, really little and don't stay frozen for long. I find I have better cooling results when I refill the water reservoir with ice cubes and water a couple of times a day.

Honest reviews on Unistar DF158 Multi-functional 4-in-1 Portable Air Cooler

This is the perfect size cooler for my bed room. The desk top size fits into the limited space and the timer allows for the cooler to cool my room very comfortably while I sleep. I am thinking of buying another one for my daughters room as well. Also dorms would like this cooler. I dont have control over the ac in my building so the extra cooling this gives is great.

so I got this air cooler for my room in Los Angeles for the constant 90+ degree daytime weather. I bought it not expecting the strength of an air conditioner but to provide enough cooling for my room.

It turns out (once I did more thorough research post-purchase) that there are several important things about air coolers:

-It can cool the air up to 12 degrees -but only when you're directly in front of the airstream. Leaving it on and leaving the door closed will probably do nothing except humidify the air and cause potential damage to electronics and other objects that need to stay relatively dry.

-Putting ice in the water tank will prove to be an unnecessary task, since even when the ice is initially in the tank the temperature will not be significantly lower and the ice will be melted well within the first 15 minutes of use.

I was extremely disappointed with the results I got from this cooler, but at the same time I should've known exactly what it was capable of before I bought it. The description on this page does seem to leave out some problems that an air cooler has. To remedy this I'm buying techni ice packs that can supposedly keep the water icy cold (apparently even colder if your freezer is capable of doing it) for an extended period of time. All in all, if you can't install an a/c unit and want something to keep you cool as long as you're in front of it, buy this. If you want something that can cool down your entire room, buy bigger, better air coolers that can blow the cooled air faster and stronger around the room.

I first saw the Germ Guardian H1000 on the desktop of a co-worker. I searched the web for it and found the best price at Amazon. I originally bought it for work, but set it up on my nightstand to test it out and liked so much it never made it to the office. (I may have to get a second one for work.) It's compact size and efficiency are real selling points. I even used it in a recent production I was in, taking it to and from the theater every night. Most of the other performers in the cast wanted to know all about it and were also impressed. I highly-recommend it.

I was very disappointed with this product. Initially, it appeared to be exactly what I was looking for. A small, attractive, filterless humidifier for a baby nursery that had natural antimicrobial properties.

Prior to purchasing, I read a number of online reviews. Like most products, there were mixed results, but overall the impressions seemed positive. I had read a review by Paul here who claimed that the product didn't work. I assumed his review was hyperbole. Turns out Paul was right. It just plain doesn't work.

We ran this humidifier in our baby's nursery for 16 hours straight (refilling so the tank was never empty). In 16 hours, the humidity went from 33% to 34% !?!? It just plain doesn't work.

Now, I should also state some obvious stuff. We used the product in what should have been an appropriate environment. The room is very small 9'x9' and the door was closed to eliminate loss of humidity. Also, my experience can not be explained away as a single faulty unit. I had ordered two (another for the master bedroom), so we retested with a second model with identical results. Both produced a visible mist immediately above the unit, so they were 'working'.

This product has great features in theory. I was excited by the nano silver technology which in theory should make for a clean and low maintenance experience.

I returned this product and purchased a well known brand. While it didn't have all the flashy features of this Germ Guardian, it just plain works. I installed it 10 minutes ago and the room humidity has climbed more than 5%.

Bottom line. This product doesn't work. If you plan to purchase it despite these warnings, make sure you keep your receipt for the return.

This is a tiny humidifier! I bought it for my son as he suffers from bloody noses at night. We live in Arizona and it is very dry. We have the full size Germ Guardian on our side of the house and we like it but I thought the lights would bother the boys at night. So we ordered this. It puts out a small amount of steam and only lasts about 12 hours in our very dry house. But it seems to be enough for my boys. The unit does get warm and doesn't turn itself off when empty. It has a light inside which makes the unit glow a very pretty blue which is a great night light.

Honest reviews on pureguardian H1000 12-Hour Ultrasonic Humidifier

I've been using the Germ Guardian H1000 in a small bedroom (approx 150 sf). It doesn't really seem to work! I've measured the humidify before and after and it really doesn't seem to change significantly. It's small, quiet and cute but what's supposed to be most important is how well it works. And it doesn't.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for pureguardian H1000 12-Hour Ultrasonic Humidifier

I was first very impressed by the reviews I read and liked that this humidifier is so small.

However, it is surprising to me that no one has mentioned the missing research yet when it comes to the nano particles that not only clean the air this humidifier blows out but also may be a health concern!

"A 2005 study in Environmental Science & Technology showed that zinc oxide nanoparticles were toxic to human lung cells in lab tests even at low concentrations. Other studies have shown that tiny silver particles (15 nanometers) killed liver and brain cells from rats. "They are more chemically reactive and more bioactive," Illuminato says, because of their size, which allows them to easily penetrate organs and cells. "Products should be at least labeled so consumers can choose whether they want to be part of this experiment.""

.

There is not a lot of information out there for consumers to really understand the possible impact of nano particles in the air (and in food and clothes), and in the meantime, this technology is being used like x-rays in shoe stores at the turn of the century!

As much as I wanted to like this humidifer, I also don't want to be part of a study in 10 years....good luck to everyone else!

I was surprisingly pleased with the Eva Dry mini dehumidifier. I hang mine just out outside our guinea pig's cage and it absorbs excess moisture quite effectively, keeping their food and cage area from getting too humid. It takes several weeks to fully absorb moisture but the indicator will go from blue to bright pink, and the unit will be noticeably heavier. Just plug the unit into the socket overnight to refresh.

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

I have 5 of these Eva-Dry rechargable dessicating dehumidifiers. Here in humid NC, using the larger in 4x8 closet works well. Takes some time, but definite measurable difference of 10-15% or so on humidity gauge after a couple of days. Need to recharge once a week here where even with the air conditioning on, indoor rel humidity is over 50% most days.

The larger EDV-500 has a much better hook which fits through the holes in the Eva-Dry EDV-500 plug, a feature that is not very well documented!

Also, there are occasional specials: recently a 2 for 1 sale on the EDV-500 with free shipping.

Only reason for not giving this product a 5 star is that as stated in other posts, the recharge process gets the unit very hot and it doesn't always sit well in an outlet without support. I too had one unit fall, and was fortunate the case stayed intact but the little beads could make for a real mess if the unit broke open!

But the real mess this thing avoids is dealing with drying chemicals that collect water and the dissolved dessicant. When that tips over, it is a wet mess, so the EDV-500 and EDV-300 avoid that type of mess.

PS where in the world did someone get the idea to label this "wireless" in the Amazon description? Very misleading!

Best Deals for Eva-dry E-500 Renewable Wireless Mini Dehumidifer

I prefer this product over refilling messy damp aid units anyday (yuck!).

It seems to keep the closet fairly dry. Two problems. Problem 1. When I renew one of the units, it falls out of the outlet unless I support it with something else. This could be dangerous since it heats up. I'm able to renew it on a counter outlet but could be a more problematic for a regular outlet that has more space between outlet and floor. Problem 2. My boyfriend who I forgot to tell about the unit, went into my closet like a bull in a china shop and it fell off its hook and broke (glass beads everywhere) I had to buy a new one after only a month. There should be a more secure way to affix the unit to hang in the closet or perhaps customer should opt to put it on the floor. The hook is fairly flimsy and if you have kids or clutzy significant others, hanging just isn't a good option for a closet that is full and tight.

Honest reviews on Eva-dry E-500 Renewable Wireless Mini Dehumidifer

I got the 500 for my 1.6 cubic ft. AMSEC safe for my handguns and important documents and use a wireless temperature/humidifier sensor to measure the moisture. It works well and keeps moisture at bay.

Con: After a month and 2 renews, the unit stopped renewing. The unit would not heat up to release the moisture from the unit. Did a little troubleshooting and found that the collapsible power plug wouldn't make contact when plugged into the wall. This is the contact between the plug and the unit itself and not the wall. The weight of the unit when plugged into the wall would tend to pull itself away and cause it not to make contact with the unit. I verified this with a Fluke multimeter while pulling on the plug it would lose connection. The only work around is to charge it upright on a power strip where the weight would help give it a better connect.

The unit gets very HOT! I assume this is normal considering it needs alot of heat to release the moisture from the unit. I'm just afraid it might catch on fire one day during a renew. To be on the safe side, I renew in the middle of my tile floor.

I purchased this about a month ago for a beer keg refrigerator that kept collecting standing water on the bottom. I would use towels to soak up the half inch of water from the bottom of the fridge, but when I would open the fridge to check it again a week later, the water would always be back. Since I put this de-humidifier into the fridge a month ago, the fridge is still completely dry, and the beads have yet to change color at all, so I haven't yet had to "recharge" the dehumidifier. It's done just what I needed it to do. I'm very pleased with this purchase.

---UPDATE---

To my surprise, it was over 7 months before any moisture appeared in the bottom of the fridge again. I plugged in the Eva-Dry for about a day and a half (until I could see pink beads again), and put it right back in the fridge, which has been dry ever since (1 month and counting).

I use this solution in a Lasko 9 gal humidifer. My water is very hard & this stuff seems to work well. I think the added bacteriostatic action is important because stagnant water can create bacteria & fungal growth. I would have rated it 5 stars except that it is difficult to get a capful out of a 1/2 gal container. If this company would only include a pump mechanism that delivers a 1 gallon dose per pump, they would have a winning product.

I love this humidifier! My 3yr old daughter is always catching a cough or cold at school and I constantly use this in her room at night. It's worth the money. I have been through maybe 5 humidifiers since she was born, but I think so far this has been the best one. I was using the frog Crane before this one, which was good use for the price, but cleaning it was a task. If you are willing to spend a bit more , this is a good investment.

I purchased this unit at a big box store 3 years ago at a comparable price. Works just as well today as the day I brought it home. From what I have read (owner's manuals for other brands via manufacturer's websites) this humidifier is the easiest to clean and maintain. Some reviewers for other brands say "no cleaning just replace the silver cube once per year, etc.). Well, sorry to say they did NOT read their owner's manuals! The Germguardian H1600 manual () instructs users to clean with fresh water and a soft cloth on some areas of the device, and to only use the provided brush (which stores neatly inside the unit so it is not easily lost) to clean the silver ion disk with water (diluted white vinegar may be used if necessary). You can use run of the mill TAP WATER to fill the tank and for cleaning...no special chemicals, no gallons of distilled water to lug home, no filters to maintain or replace, etc. (You can use distilled water in your H1600 if you see a lot of white dust; I do not see white dust and have always used the city tap water.) Who could ask for more?

The tank is easy to remove, fill, and replace on the base unit.

Unit is fairly quiet...only occasional gurgling sounds that last only a second, when they occur.

The silver ion disk is visible when you remove the tank, so if it needs a quick clean, it is easy to do when I refill the tank.

My bedroom is an average size (hardwood floors no rugs) and takes no time to increase the humidity level from 27% to 37% using cool mist with middle spray control setting (as measured by a digital Acurite indoor/outdoor humidity & temp monitor sitting across the room from the humidifier). Side note: I do keep the door closed while sleeping. In addition, when I move the unit to my living room I find the humidity level to increase at a satisfactory rate despite the room being considerably larger than my bedroom...the living room has a barrel ceiling and is a fairly open plan to the dining room.

I now want a second unit for my living room so that I do not continue carrying my original back and forth between rooms. I considered more expensive units from other manufacturers that provide a larger coverage area but the cleaning and upkeep concerns me as I know I will forget to clean the unit or not clean it well enough and risk making my family sick!

Don't waste your money. This product is more expensive than many other humidifiers but I purchased it because I wanted a product that wouldn't require a lot of maitenence, costly filters, etc. It worked ok for the first 2-3 nights I used it. It began leaking water onto the floor after that so I put a towel under it. Then it stopped working! I called the company and they said that putting it on the towel caused it to short circuit and that the motor permanently shuts off. I'd rather have a product that doesn't work than a safety issue, but really? The product was under warranty of course and the company offered to fix or replace the unit, however I would be responsible for shipping charges. The product is pretty heavy so I decided it wouldn't be worth the money and hassle. I'm going to try another humidifier from a different manufacturer.

Germ Guardian H1600 Digital Ultrasonic Humidifier does a terrific job of humidifying the air with absolutely no noise. It has 3 levels of fine mist low, medium or high. It also allows you to choose between warm and cool mist. Refilling the tank and replacing it is no problem. We are thoroughly satisfied with its performance.

It does show bright blue light in the dark which I cover up with a towel. Problem solved.

Doctor said I should get a humidifier for sinus issues. Bought this because of price and size. Very happy with it. Seems to be helping with sinuses and only have to refill every 4th night. Easy to refill.
