This filter by BestAir is thinner than the Vornado brand, however I have found that makes no difference. Both brands get stiff with minerals at the same rate, and both get smelly after they've been filtering the air for a couple of months. Buy the cheaper one.

These filters arrived in good condition and fit my Vornado humidifier. Package arrived timely. I believe this is the second time I've ordered from this vendor and received the right product at a fair price with good shipping times.

Honest reviews on BestAir H55-C Holmes HWF-55 Replacement Wick Filter

I purchased 6 boxes for my Vornado HU1 whole room humidifier. I'm on my 4th box after 3 months of almost continuous use. They do not compare to the Vornado MD1 factory wicks. Even at half the price they are not worth it.

1. Although they look like an exact fit, they are not. They are slightly skinnier so they collapse inward. I solved this by wedging straws to keep them against the ventilation fins.

2. In the first two fillings the BestAir work just like the factory ones, but by the third filling (36 hours) they diminish by 50%!! Why? I do not know. They are plenty saturated. Mind you, I am meticulous with cleaning the unit and monitoring the humidity in the room. I have many wooden musical instruments that are valuable and must be kept at 70% humidity. I have two other humidifiers in the same room running simultaneously that use sunbeam universal wicks. They both put 1 gal of water in the air every 8 hours. They begin to diminish after 3 weeks. My Vornado with the factory wicks would put 1.5gal of water in the air in less then 12 hours for 3 weeks. When I switched to Best Air wicks it is now only 1.5gal every 24 hours! Thats half as efficient as the Vornado wicks. At half the price that puts us about even. Except now I would need to add another humidifier in the room to make up for the inefficiency. No way. I'm going back to the $14 Vornado wicks or try and cut custom wicks from Sunbeam universal at $10 a box.

I have a Holmes humidifier and this unit fits perfectly. Be sure to check your humidifier to see what size you need. Looking at the original wick filter and this replacement I can see no difference. My only gripe is that to keep postage down it arrived in a plastic mailing envelope and not a box so it could have been crushed. Luckily it was not.

I bought this for my office, which is dry as a bone. I ran it for 15 mins. the first time before mist started spouting -not sure if this is by design? The Good: USB plug is very handy; unit puts out a visible stream of cool mist; unit is compact & easy to clean. The Bad: You'll have to refill the unit every 4 hours. The constant hiss is something you may not appreciate. Your IT dept. may go nuts if you run the unit any closer to electronics than the maximum length of the 2-foot power cord. Also, you'll want to use bottled/filtered water in the unit -if the head gets clogged up by mineral scale from tap water, I'm not sure what your options would be. For the price, it's not a terrible deal -especially if combined with an office fan to help spread the moisture around.

I've been using this humidifier at my desk for 3 weeks now. There are four small black screws on the inside of the humidifier that have completely rusted through. The wet rust runs into the reservoir and makes its way through the humidifier, and turned the filter orange. Gross!

So that this isn't a complete loss, I wipe off the rust off the screws every time I refill it, and wash out the weird orange things floating around inside. This is probably a health hazard but I'm too stubborn to give up on it yet because I spent money on it.

Speaking of which, the reservoir is very very small. I keep a bottle of water nearby and have to refill it every 2 hours. It's also pretty loud compared to other humidifiers, so much that I have to turn it off during conference calls.

It's a cheap Chinese product, so you get what you paid for.

I looks good and works, but its more of a novelty item that a true humidifier IMO. The mister is pretty loud, eventually I stuck a straw in the hole to offset the noise. It has some perforations on the top to let out mist, but the perforations make it sound like someone is constantly shushing you, so I leave it off mostly now.

We bought this unit to help humidify our house in the winter. Past experiences with cool mist humidifiers were poor having to clean mysterious brown gunk off the electronic innards was disturbing. If you're like me, you'll pretend you don't see the brown gunk. This strategy works great until the gunk becomes a pulsating biohazard that threatens to move about on its own. Warm mist humidifiers don't seem to have this problem. The Vicks Vaporizer looked a bit wimpy, but with itchy skin and static electricity zapping about, anything was better than nothing. Besides, it's cheap.

First, the unit puffs out warm odorless steam as advertised. The manual says you have to add salt to the water to really get the steam going and warns vaguely about blowing fuses if you get carried away. This made me curious, so I got out my Kill-A-Watt power meter (very cool gadget by the way) to see how much juice this thing used. Turns out it REALLY matters how much salt you add. The vaporizer was puffing steam like crazy, and using over a kilowatt of power. I emptied and refilled the water, adding the maximum recommended amount of salt (1/4 teaspoon). Steam production was still fine at a more reasonable 450 Watts.

Since I had the power meter hooked up, I wondered just how efficiently the Vicks produced steam. 450 Watts running all night is enough to want my money's worth. So, I performed a test. I filled the tank with exactly 192 ounces of room temperature water, added the salt, and plugged it into the power meter for the night. By morning it was done and the power meter read 0 Watts. There was still quite a bit of water in the tank, which I measured to be 50 ounces. The power meter said 3.15 kilowatt-hours (kWh) had been used. So, it took 3.15 kWh to vaporize 192 50 = 142 ounces of room temperature water. Is this reasonable? I calculated the energy required to vaporize 142 ounces of water as:

Energy to raise 142 oz from 21.1 C to 100 C = 0.37 kWh

Energy to boil 142 oz at 100 C = 2.53 kWh

Total = 2.9 kWh

So, the Vicks is about 92% energy efficient. Not bad.

Our electricity costs 8.3 cents per kWh, so the vaporizer costs me 26 cents per tank.

I'm very happy with the Vicks considering the price. Rather than spend much more on a big unit, I'll just buy a couple more of these.

To summarize:

The Good

* Uses no energy when tank runs low. Good for safety and economy.

* 92% energy efficient (about 26 cents of electricity per tank).

* Except for the steam itself, no outside surfaces get hot.

* Has a little light on top so you don't bump it in the dark.

The Bad (minus 1 star)

* Can't vaporize a full 1.5 gallons. Leaves about a quarter tank.

* Black particles appear in the tank. They don't stick to anything and rinse away easily. I suspect these are some electrolytic byproduct from running electricity through the salty water.

I've been using these for 4 years now. I've purchased four and only pitched one (though I'm about to replace the second one I purchased because it's not putting out the steam it's 4 years old). (I number them so I know which older/younger.)

Pro:

They're cheap! I can purchase 10 of these for what it would cost to purchase a nice ultrasonic humidifier.

No gross filters. No funky chemicals.

When it doesn't work or gets gross, I'll pitch it.

Supposedly warm mist grows less bacteria than cool mist (verify this, I read it several years ago and may be wrong).

Cleaning is easy. Warm vinegar removes the scale that builds up over time.

Con:

I have to refill them about 3 times a day.

Though the company does not recommend it, I pretty much run them 24/7 when at home. I unplug them before leaving the house no need to start a fire.

Here in Nevada the humidity is extremely low. With three of these running my home feels warmer and the humidity gets up to 33% (still really low). The humidity helps both my skin and my sinuses.

We've had a few of these for years. Don't run them all the time, but when we use them they work perfectly. Any sputtering is caused by the quality of the water. You do have to rinse out the reservoir every so often. If the water gets too low or too gunky it will sputter. Completely expected in a vaporizer. The night light feature is nice.

Honest reviews on Yh Lh Vicks 1.5 Gal Vaporizer

I used to use these humidifiers every night, and they do put out a lot of nice warm moisturebut they are a pain to fill, a pain to clean, and with my water I have to add salt. After a while the output goes down and it starts to bubble/overboil and spit. Don't use this for an everyday humidifier, I never would for everyday, but I would spend the 12 bucks to get one for a week or two's use if I got sick. I do not know if a cool mist humidifier like the one I just bought would do so well for a cold.

The Vicks models are cheap to buy and cheaply made...not for long term or heavy duty use.

There is an area next to the night light on top of the unit where you can add medicated/scented oil to be mixed in with the steam.

Pros:

I am very sensitive to noise when sleeping so I have been searching for a very quiet humidifier. I have bought 5 humidifiers, all different brands and prices (all more expensive than this one), but they were all too noisy for me.

It is easy to clean. I get hard water in my area, but the mineral does not stick to the tub, so I can just rinse it out. When I opened up the unit trying to clean the internal components (not recommended by the manufacturer), I noticed the electrodes (used to heat the water) are made from some ceramic-like material, and the mineral does not deposit on them as much (other humidifiers have stainless steel electrodes or plates that seem to collect mineral). I was able to use a spoon to scrape off some mineral on the electrodes and pour out the loose flakes of mineral that are trapped inside the electrodes' containment area. I normally clean out the mineral every 6 months (and I use this humidifier every night).

Cons:

No shut off timer. It shuts off automatically when water gets to a minimum level. If you want it on only for a couple of hours, instead of all night, just pour in less water.

This is a fun item. And it really cute when it works. It just takes a pretty hot fire to get him steaming , otherwise he just has a drippy nose. In the two weeks I have had it on my wood stove I have only got it hot enough to produce steam a couple of time.

I was more than pleased when I received my hand painted ceramic/metal steamer. It is awesome. It has an excellent paint job.It works well and steam really does come out of the dragon's nostrils. What a hoot!

This product was a gift for my parents who have a fun sense of humor and also enjoy "dragons". They were very pleased with the item. It arrived in good shape, works well and most importantly makes them laugh. Very pleased.

Honest reviews on Achla Dragon Steamer

This item is cute to look at but does not perform the "steaming nostrils" function at all.

We tried several locations on our very hot woodstove but no results.

We have been in touch with the seller (3rd party) and she was very nice about return/ refund/ exchange.

Also was urprised that the top piece is only made of China glass, not cast iron like the bottom.

Could break on the first fall if you weren't very careful.

JS.

Cute piece to look at but the benefit was for the steam. Found this steamer does not emit enough steam with the cover on. With the cover off it produces plenty of steam.

This is as basic as it gets, but that's great. Two electrodes in the vaporizer part pass a current through the water (add salt to the water per the instructions), turning it to steam. This puts out a gallon or so of water in a night. Yes, the electrodes disintegrate over time, leaving pieces in the tank, but they just pour out when you empty the excess water. After a few years, our first unit isn't working very well anymore, but we just bought another for what you'd pay for just the filter of a more expensive humidifier.

We have a large humidifier for the main spaces of our house; this vaporizer is too small and not meant to run continuously all winter long. But when someone has a cold, this goes in the bedroom for the night and works pefectly. We've never used any medicines with it, so I can't comment on that feature, but it produces steam and humidifies a room well.

I bought mine a few years ago when my kids started nursery school. They always came home with colds and flu, blocked or runny noses, they (and I) did not get much sleep. After I started using the vaporizer with an inhalant they slept like logs, no blocked/runny noses, and the wheezing stopped immediately. It's fantastic, I still use it today, when any member of my family has a cold or flu. I would highly recommend it to anyone big or small. A really fantastic product! Thank you.

Best Deals for 1G Vaporizer with Nightlight

We purchased this humidifier, because it looked like one we have had for years. The newer models have parts that are easily broken. Once destroyed, you have to throw the whole appliance away. This humidifier doesn't have these intricate parts and works like it is supposed to work. We do have hard water, so every so often, we add a little white vinegar to the water. It does smell, so you can do it when you leave the house for a couple of hours.

Honest reviews on 1G Vaporizer with Nightlight

I live in dry desert country and this humidifier is a godsend on dry days in the house. However, we bought it for overnight use and either it churns out copious amounts of steam and runs out within 3-4 hours, rendering it useless for an 8-hour overnight stretch, or it just sort of puffs pathetically, releasing tiny amount of steam throughout the night to where you don't even feel its effects. I've tried different additives (salt, baking soda) to figure out if it's a hard water/pH issue or whatever, and I can't figure it out. It's completely inconsistent, so we don't use it all that much. If I could go back I'd skip this one and get a 2-gallon humidifier instead in the hopes that it would at least get through the night.

In the past, the humidfiers I had were complex, with moving parts, a tendency to break, and a need for constant maintenance like replacing filters and cleaning.

This vaporizer avoids all those problems. There are no moving parts and no filters. The case is very durable. Mold doesn't grow in this, so I don't need to clean it often. And it is very easy to clean, anyways.

The one thing that got me at the beginning was that I didn't know you need to add salt to the water in order for it to work. But once you add the salt, if you refill the tank before it is completely drained, you won't need to add salt again.

Decent price but the cost of shipping makes it almost prohibitive. It is so light and compact, it could have been put in a small envelope and sent for less than $1. Unfortunately there is no other source I could find.

I do not recommend this product as these generic 3 1/4" pads require me to cut the pads down to size to fit Slant/Fin (Enviracare) humidifiers. Slant/Fin humidifiers take mineral absorption pads that are 2 1/4" in diameter rather than this larger size.

In addition, the packaging of the product is wasteful as these generic over-sized pads are packaged two per plastic bag unlike the name-brand Slant/Fin product where all six pads are bagged together.

I will be returning this product to the seller.
