This was a gift for my husband. He had one but it was small.

He loved this one, it's good quality, nice glossy finish, his favorite was the see through glass and the size of the humidor.

As far as performance, I've had this for about a month now and it maintains humidity well. We'll see if that continues in the winter months. From an ascetics standpoint, I was pleasantly surprised when this humidor arrived. The construction of the box is solid, the hinges are sturdy, the lid sits flush and the interior tray is of equal quality. The only thing I do not enjoy about the item's build is the finish. It's so thick and high gloss that the wood is devoid of any texture. I prefer a more natural finish on wood, but that's more a personal preference than a complaint.

I will say that, despite everything else being so well made, the hygrometer they included is entirely plastic (though it was perfectly calibrated upon arrival) and even looks cheap. I will add that the humidifier included, though it fits perfectly into the inlay, is of very poor quality. I had to rinse it out repeatedly to get rid of all the fine green "dust" particles in it and it leaks from its seam when filled, causing you to waste a fair amount of distilled water. I'd forego using that and replace it with a Xikar, personally (and I did). For less than $20 you can get a humidifier of real quality.

It's a beautiful humidor it has plenty of room for your cigars and I love that you can see thru the glass lid, the only thing I don't like is the humidity display its loose and it feel cheap.

I started getting sick, and for the first time since grade school had a bloody nose. That coupled with getting dry mouthed and dry skin and chapped lips every morning made me consider a humidifer.

When I went to the store I wanted a cool mist one, as cool mist would be nice in my room that is hot and dry during the winter. I expecte a misting machine, this thing doesnt mist, but I'm happy it doesn't after reading all the review of people with soggy carpets because of their misters...

Since having this I haven't felt as dry in the morning which is nice, I breathe easier and started feeling better. It a little louder than some but if you dont like the noise, turn down the speed to lower at night, I personally like some background noise and keep it on high.

The water last for a long time in these ones that use these wicks. There is only one downfall, mine is about a month old and the filter is getting pretty nasty already, although I admit my room is a dusty place and I've been using tap water. Apparently if you use those cheap 1 gallon Distilled waters the filter wont get all dirty or smelly as easily, as distilled water is pure, and tap water well....no matter what you think isn't ;).

PRO: Humidifies room with few refills and doesn't soak room.

CONS: The filter gets moldy/dirty pretty quick.

Hopefully this is usefull, I'm happy with it and I'm sure you'd be.

I originally purchased this unit for my child's room 2 years ago -worked fine. There was no soaked carpet, no leaks, no fires, and no problems finding filters. I even liked the level of sound it would get loud gradually. My child (now 2 yrs old) loved the sound so much we had to find a sound machine to duplicate it.

We purchased another unit for our second child's room. Strangely, this unit worked differently than the first. The second one leaked (very litte nothing a hand towel under the unit couldn't fix) and was MUCH louder than the first. I also found that I needed to refill this unit more often than I did the first.

I didn't see too much of a problem with the difference, just thought it was worth mentioning...

I have purchased and thrown away at least 3 other humidifier's prior to this one. I really like this one. The maintenance is so much easier and so far no scaly build-up like I had with the others. I love that the basin tray can go in the dishwasher. I put the filter in the sun to dry out weekly. I am very pleased with this item and haven't experienced any of the problems others have mentioned. Very happy!!

This humidifier is cheaper than most, especially if you buy something else from the same manufacturer (the $10 off $30 coupon helps out).

It only has two speeds, low and high. HIgh is somewhat noisy, but what you would expect. However low is whisper quiet, you can't even really tell it's on at all. I have a somewhat large room 17x14 or so, and it easily keeps it humid in here (I have a clock that has humidity on it, and can see the difference). As far as replacement filters, it appears as those are reasonable as well.

It doesn't have any real features, but it works and it has worked well for me so far with no complains. Quiet, cheap, and humidifes, it's win-win.

I have used this product for about 4-years now, same unit and still works great and I run it all night every night. I bought it when my daughter was sick on recommendation from the doctor and continued using it for the white noise created at the high speed. My daughter never slept well and this white noise helped her a lot. It also makes a huge difference in the air, when I forget to turn it on at night now I know in the morning it was not on because I wake up thirsty. Like with anything, you have to complete proper maintenance...keep it filled with water, change filters as needed, and clean at least twice a month to keep the mold out. -NOTE: The maintenance recommendation to run once a week with no water is only as long as it takes to dry the filter out and keep mold from growing on the filter. ALSO, if you do not properly screw the bottom back on after filling, the unit will leak. If properly screwed on, it will not. Highly recommended.

I have had this sitting on my wood stove for a few days and it is working great. It is larger than I had thought and much heavier, both good things for me. I live in the Pacific Northwest and we have seen our temperatures drop over the past month and it has been great to use my stove instead of hearing my heater starting up every few minutes. The only negative I have with wood stoves is the dry air they tend to bring with them, but adding this cast iron humidifier has provided some much needed moisture to the air in my home. If you need some additional humidity due to your stove, this is a great, inexpensive solution to the problem. It looks like some rust has already started to form on the humidifier, but that is expected with cast iron and just adds to the beauty of the product. If you don't want rust, I've read some fairly easy ways to keep it away, but I prefer to allow the rust to form and protect the cast iron. Initially, I thought I would have to order 2 of these to provide enough humidity to my home, but 1 is taking care of the task very well. For most settings, I think 1 will work great for any home.

VERY rough casting of the cast iron. Made in China, so... Sharp edges around the rim, very rough grinding off at the spout.

Painted black, and paint was scratched off in several places but we plan to season it before using anyway.

Had thought about picking up a used one at an antique store, but the old ones are way expensive (but much nicer finish), and this seemed like a good deal at $42. You get what you pay for. I guess for what it is it's ok, but I was expecting a better finish.

May break out the angle grinder and do a little smoothing of the rough areas myself.

Handle is quite heavy-duty, and was hard to bend to fit into the tabs, seems well-matched to weight of the kettle. Overall, this does seem like a heavy-duty piece.

I like this cast iron kettle for several reasons. One is that the cast iron transfers heat well. I put a stainless steel pot on the stove and the water never boiled, but in this kettle the water boils quite well. It also looks much nicer as it matches the stove. It holds a fair amount of water which is a plus also.

While the specs make this kettle seem like a great idea, there's a problem not obvious until you put it to use: a horrible chemical smell when you first boil. Smells like petroleum, and made our smoke alarms trigger. We've since boiled the pot on the cooking stove with the exhaust fan on, and hopefully burned off whatever the smell is (paint, antirust agent, who knows.) Will update this review if the smell goes away, which I expect it will.

This is a heavy cast iron pot that will rust a little when it is used as a steamer. I use it strictly as a steamer on the wood stove and I don't care about the rust (all on the inside). The pot probably holds close to a gallon and it works great as a steamer. Very pleased.

This year, I got the Hunter 31004, the slightly earlier edition of the 31005. They look very similar and have a similar rating for use in a small room.

Pros:

1. The machine very effectively and quickly sends out a controllable jet of fine, cool mist. It can humidify a small room and make it much more comfortable without turning the space into a rain forest.

2. You can use tap water.

3. The humidifier is very quiet, with one exception, as noted in the 'cons' just below.

Cons:

The only noise it makes is related to the dripping of water from the tank to the humidifier, and the sound is EXACTLY like what you hear when your dog is attending to an itch in its privates! For dog lovers this may not be a problem, but it is a tad disquieting if you don't have a dog.

Overall, it seems a very nice solution to uncomfortably dry winter air.

This unit was a lifesaver during my sinus infection. It has enough power to turn a small room into a jungle, by that I mean fill a smaller room with visibly noticeable mist! Pretty neat actually! My buddy showed his off and I ordered my own the next day. Good choice for those of you who share similarly dry winters and need that extra moisture in the house.

We got this after checking consumer reports and seeing it ranked at number 1 in their ratings for small humidifiers. The unit worked really well for about a week. There is a red light which comes on when the water level is low. I thought it was an automatic shut off. It is not. If you leave it on, it will eventually use up all the remaining water in the unit. This caused what I'm guessing is a mineral build up on the working parts, slowing output to almost nil even on high once refilled. So, good unit-but dont let it run dry. Especially if you have hard water like we do. Post Script: I wrote this review yesterday. My wife has been using the unit despite its partial output. Today, she said it was leaking from the base, so I went and checked it out for her. There is a little center piece in the base which houses the mist head. This little unit is glued in from the underside. The glue failed and the mister is now sitting down inside the base. Its broken. We had this for a matter of weeks! Absolute junk! I am getting really sick of Consumer Reports saying that something is really great and then it just falls apart. That has happened to me too many times now. Anyway, I dont know if we just got a lemon or what, but I cant recommend this unit based on our experience.

It's very small and uses a wick. The first one I bought stopped working after a couple of days for no apparent reason. Had to return. The replacement continues to work, but works best when completely filled to keep the wick wet. If it isn't used every day and is allowed to empty, the wick has to be taken out and soaked again to get it going. There's no control for how much mist you get, only on/off. It is big enough to run for about twelve hours.

bought this from a local store. it blows a nice mist that I like but the box said it runs 10 hours. pamplet inside says not to leave house for 6 hours with it running. we slept six to seven hours and it was completely dry.
