I know that ultrasonic humidifiers leave white dust. However, this filter is supposed to eliminate that problem. I've tried these types of filters in other ultrasonic humidifiers (Crane for example) and they work. But this one, does nothing. What a shame. We love the humidifier, but wish the filter actually worked. It's a lot of work to clean up the dust all the time. Especially on drapes, curtains, etc.

I may be wrong, but I expected that this filter would retain the minerals from the water so they did not get into the air during the humidifier process and are seen as a white powder on furniture, floors etc. Unfortunately this filter only slightly limited the amount of powder which escaped into the air, not prevent it. The name itself suggests that the minerals are removed during the process. I was very disappointed and would like to know where I can get a filter that really works. This is better than nothing, but still not good enough to do the job.

While $17 every couple of months seems a little expensive for this item, I would pay it if it worked. As far as I can tell it does not help prevent the dust at all.

It's not the fault of the filter (which explains the stars), but if your city uses lime water softening, also known as Clark's process, this will not help.

In fact, if you have lime-softened water don't even buy an ultrasonic humidifier. I wish I'd known that as it put lime dust over the entire room and ruined an expensive CD player (lime dust got on the lens and can't be cleaned off).

Lime softening is done by your city, not by your water softener. Check wikipedia for "lime softening".

I own a pureguardian™Ultraonic Humidifier H4500. I was using tap water and noticed an accumulation of white dust on many plastic surfaces around the house including the dvds inside the player. I switched to distilled water and the problem went away. I ordered this decalcification filter in hopes that I would save money from buying distilled water. I installed the filter as resumed the use of tap water and the white dust problem came back just as before. I am returning the filter as is does not work at all.

I have found that the "Water Filling" machine at my local wal mart uses reverse osmosis which works great in the humidifier as it does not produce any white dust, and the price per gallon is extremely reasonable.

Old filter was 2 years old (way too long to wait for replacing). With the new filter, the humidifier goes through a lot more water which is what it is supposed to do.

I have been using this model for over a year and I couldn't be happier with it. The design is flawless, it is very well made. I put my own custom essential oils in it. I just bought a second one as I am tired of moving it around the house depending on where I am working. It makes a pleasant whirring sound, nothing loudand the "auto shut off mode" when you lift the top off and the motor stops is excellentthe motor will only start again when the lid is put on properly snug in place.

Can't say enough good things about it. If I had one wish it would be that the base was glass instead of plastic---but the existing base is sturdy and wide mouth is easy to clean with a little scrub brush, water and vinegar. My home smells amazing with the help of this and people always ask how I do it! A great alternative to candles also, just add a little lavender or your favorite essential oil blend. Simple, efficient design. Excellent!!! Highly recommended!!!

Review of Honeywell 32005847-001 Installation Kit, Bypass

I purchased this to go along with my whole house humidifier cause Honeywell doesn't give you all the stuff you need with the humidifier. However, read up on what is included and what is not. I bought a seperate humidistat because I thought I needed one but there is actually one in the humidifier package. Most modern furnaces don't need the separate transformer and sail switch that come in this kit. You can find the schematics online for your furnace if you don't have the manual it came with to wire to the 24v output on the control board in the furnace unit and not have to use the sail switch and 24v transformer. Hence, I'd recommend buying the water tubes and ducting at a hardware store. I would imagine that if I'd thought ahead far enough I could have found the 5" duct and hoses for around $20 or less and saved myself some money. My mistake is your lesson here I guess.

Bought this to go with the 220a humidifier per suggestions of other users. Was about to watch the included video (a DVD is shown on the outer box) to get started, and opened the box to find a VHS tape. Not sure how many people still have a working VHS machine in 2012, but I don't. Upon further inspection, there is no sail switch in the install box either.

Now I have to go through the hassle of finding a VHS machine or wait for a DVD if the manufacturer can send one.

Kind of concerns me about how old these parts may be in this box. Ugh in deed.

I may update this once I get to see the video and figure out how to do the install, but this is a major disappointment in Honeywell.

Update: I just talked to Honeywell, and somehow they're blaming Amazon, saying someone must have opened the box. Seriously?!? How or why would Amazon have Honeywell labeled VHS tapes to sneak into sealed (only one piece of tape closing the box, shows no signs of being resealed) factory package? A big "WOW" comes to mind, and the rating just went to 1 star.

Update 2 (1/25/12): After returning this and buying another kit locally (same part number, slightly different on-box pictures), I gave up on this unit as a whole. Honeywell, even though it lists as included, no longer includes the sail switch to control the unit. At least this one didn't have a VHS tape in it-it had NO install video at all! It's 'sold separately' according to their (apparently overseas) support tech. "Everything you need" apparently doesn't mean parts for a successful install, it means to provide instant frustration. Very disappointing, Honeywell. Thank goodness for Amazon's easy return procedures.

This a required kit to install the whole house humidifier. The video is great and gives valuable tips not in the written instructions which are good but assume a lot of knowledge.

The Honeywell Humidifier includes a transformer, saddle valve and humidistat. The Installation Kit comes with the flexible duct, duct starter, duct tape, saddle valve, tubing, wire, sail switch, humidistat and two 24 VAC transformers. Now I have two extra transformers, humidistat and saddle valve. The Humidifier doesn't describe what's included, so you don't know for sure what else is needed. This is very poor or deceptive practice by the manufacturer. Amazon could also do a better job listing exactly what's in the box so you know if any extra parts are needed, and sell them separately. I ended up paying for a lot of extra parts I don't need. The few parts I did use in the kit I could have bought at the hardware store for about $20. Honeywell products are usually top of the line but in this case they pulled a fast one on the customer.

I have tried other products in my humidor, most recently the Ice Gel. It was a pain because I had to remove a level of my humidor because of it's height and it did not keep the humidity up enough. This humidifier works great! All I had to do was add distilled water and it keeps my Humidor right at 72%. I would highly recommend this.

This is an excellent product. It comes with 2, 1.5" peel and stick magnets and stainless steel peel and stick matching squares. they stick tight and after 6 months of use (2 upside down in the lid of my 300 count humidor) they're still tight. They are easy to remove and fill. they hold a ton of liquid. For best results just make sure to use a 50/50 solution of distilled water and glycerin. Otherwise you'll be refilling them much more often, and they'll give more consistant moisture. It would be helpful to pick up a cheap coresponding funnel at your local dollar store. Another good tip is to install them to they very back of the lid if you intend on using them upside down. That way they'll stay put for sure. Peel and stick the magnets to the back of the plastic first, then put the steel squares on, then peel the paper off the metal and press firmly in place. You can't go wrong with this product!

Purchased this for my 75 cigar Humidor. Used two credo round humidifiers before and they aged and began failing.

Great quality, Excellent 4-piece magnet system that makes for very easy and very efficient installation and refilling.

I was concerned that this inexpensive unit would lack the quality or ability to maintain 73 75 % humidity in my humidor.

I have refilled unit once with distilled water in the last month and I don't think it even needed it yet. Been consistent 7475 % since

First off, I bought this because it looked nice and had a filler cap.

The item i received looks cheesy and is all black with no gold. The seams on the sides also leak so you have to shake it out after adding water so that water doesn't drip on the wood in your humidor. they should have fused the pieces together but it appears that it just snaps together. any water in the bottom just runs out. I have thrown mine away because it is worthless.

Also, the adhesive magnetic squares didn't hold to the wood on humidor even though i left them attached for a few days before attaching the humidifier.

i recommend you look elsewhere.
