We bought two of these dehumidifiers because we live in a climate that has hot, humid summers. We thought we could save on air conditioning if we dehumidified the house because we can tolerate higher temperatures when the humidity is lower. However, these units generate so much heat it's like running a space heater and I keep turning them off because the house gets too hot from the heat generated by the dehumidifers. They also use a lot of electricity, so we didn't save any money by using them

Having said that, I need to give it credit for doing a good job of getting the humidity out of the air quickly. But, because of the heat they put into the house and the amount of electricity they use, they are not worth what we paid for them.

Got this particular model because of the price and good ratings. It seems to perform as well as I can expect. The controls and displays are sensible. This model doesn't have a pump, so you want it to drain continuously, you have to place it somewhere hight to let the hose drain by gravity into a sink or drain. The unit comes with a hose, but the hose is very short and flimsy/light and cheaply made. I had to buy a short garden hose to meet my needs.

So far so good! Has done a great job of lowering the relative humidity of my entire 2 BR apartment. The unit creates a little heat (as all dehumidifiers do) but that is offset by the amount of moisture it pulls from the air. A little loud on high but on the low setting, it is an noisy as you would expect it to be. Would recommend to others.

Honest reviews on DeLonghi DD45 45 Pt. Energy Star Dehumidifier

I bought this 2 years ago and it is still going strong.

Pros:

Looks cool

Dependable

Really like the anti-icing feature

Not too expensive

Cons:

Not quiet, but not too loud

Uses quite a bit of power. According to my Kill-A-Watt meter:

Idle: 2 Watts

Fan on: ~85 Watts

Compressor on: ~495 Watts

Bucket is a bit difficult to empty and clean

Like others have said, the timer feature needs improvement. It would be so much better if we could set multiple times like a thermostat, but it only allows you to set X hours for the next on/off switch.

My old Hampton Bay dehumidifier is dying, so I might look into a Soleus Air model to compare it to the DeLonghi.

My old dehumidifier used to have a feature where it would turn off / on depending on the rooms humidify. If the room got to a specified humidity level it would turn on until the humidity was taken care of and then it would turn off.

This unit will keep on (on its high setting) until it reaches the designated humidify, but then it turns to its low setting and stays on continuously sucking in / blowing air.

I wish it was able to turn off or at least not run the fan constantly.

Other than that the unit works very well!
