After shopping around for an affordable, yet sturdy, crib for my baby, I came across this model after the $300 model I wanted was sold out. It was on sale for $149 at the time and I was somewhat skeptical about buying without seeing it first. After reading the reviews, however, I decided to take the chance. I was pleasantly surprised! The espresso color is just the right shade for my nursery, and the crib is just beautiful. I received the item in perfect condition, and setup was pretty quick and somewhat painless. The final result was a beautiful, sturdy crib that compares well with the $500 models around. It doesnt seem to scratch easily although I cannot say how it will hold up when my little one starts chewing. I have leaned hard on it and it still holds up strong. And it grows with my baby which is most important. If you are hesitating on this model, then don't. You'll be very happy with your purchase!

After finally getting sick and tired of all the crib recalls, we bought this crib on 6/25 for our now 1 year old. The outer box looked pretty rough when it got here but the manufacturers packaging inside the outer box provided by amazon was pristine. I read all the reviews about the crib arriving with scratching so I hawk-eyed every single inch of every piece of the crib. I found NO scratches. I did find 2 small imperfections in the wood itself which can only been seen when looking closely, but that comes with the territory when using real wood.

Assembly directions were very easy to follow. It took us just under an hour to assemble. There is NO WAY to put this crib together by yourself, so don't even try it. The only thing that will result is damage to the crib itself and probably a bad assembly risking your child's life.

My daughter is teething and I know some said the crib scratches very easily. She has marked up the wood on the front rail with her teeth but not through the coloring on the wood. It looks more like indentations. It's really not noticeable unless you look closely but if this is a major issue for you, you might want to go with a crib that you can put guards on.

I drove to every store and essentially looked at every crib out there. I was so worried about buying off the internet but the price was incentive enough to give it a shot. I can honestly say that the quality of this crib surpasses many of the $400 cribs I saw in the retail stores.

I was a little nervous ordering this crib despite all the great reviews, because it was so cheap. It was something like , with free shipping because I have free Prime through Amazon Mom. The crib arrived in 2 days and is so much better than I dared hope.

It didn't have any dings or scratches like some people complained about, and it was reasonably easy to put together (it took my husband and I about an hour and a half if we took it apart in the future, I'm sure we could reassemble it much more quickly, now that we know what we're doing). Once assembled, the crib is extremely sturdy and looks gorgeous. The wood looks and feels high-quality, and it is a rich dark chocolate color, somewhat darker than some of the pictures make it appear.

One of the best things about this crib is that it works for tall people. My husband is 6'3 and I'm 5'9, and I didn't want a crib where I would have to bend way down to put the baby in. This crib allows you to set the bed height at 3 different levels. When the baby is new, you can set it quite high to make it easy to lift the baby in and out. When he gets older and can stand up, you can set the level lower so he can't climb or fall out as easily.

I also purchased the Sealy Soybean Foam-Core Crib Mattress, and it fits the crib perfectly, nice and tight so there are no gaps on the sides.

One caveat: the crib is just a little too wide to fit through a normal bedroom door, so make sure you set it up in the room you want to keep it in. I'm sure you could take off one of the sides without too much difficulty if you did need to move it later.

Honest reviews on Stork Craft Tuscany 4-in-1 Stages Crib

We got this crib as a Christmas gift for our son in 2010, since he slept in a bassinet no problem for almost a year.

Let me start by saying everything for our son has to be VERY carefully picked. He has a condition causing brittle bones, another causing fluid on the brain, and overall needs very well made pieces, especially cribs and the like.

This crib is awesome. It's very well built, the wood is soft (which leads to my cons), but assembled it looks great, it's easy to move around the room without the mattress and has a very sturdy base. Here's my nutshell pros & cons list.

PROS:

-Simply instructions. The set up instructions are pretty straight forward, and I (not very build-savvy) was able to follow them no problem.

-Base is very sturdy! The support base for the mattress is extremely well made. It screws in so tightly and is made of super heavy thick board. I've put this piece to the test many times with heavy items (moving, i laid over 200lbs of stuff on it and it held up).

-Looks gorgeous when set up. The shiny satin finish of the wood is absolutely beautiful! I have this in black, and I could NOT be happier with how it looks in my sons room.

CONS:

-Difficult assembly. Sounds like a contradiction to my pros list, but hear me out. Although the instructions are simple, the set up process ISNT. I set this up more than a year after having a baby, and it took me and a friend (who has 2 children herself), and still had some difficulty, definitely broke a sweat. When installing the mattress support base, it says "we recommend having an additional person help" because you need one person to hold the VERY HEAVY base up while you get under there like a mechanic and screw the pieces in. I can't even imagine doing this while pregnant, and I think any OB wouldnt recommend it, it's a lot of work (but that's what husbands are for right?).

-"Underbed storage" difficult to access. When this is a "crib" theres tons of storage space underneath for clothes, toys, diapers, ANYTHING. I'm not one to waste storage space, and the biggest downside of this crib is the front piece sits so low to the ground, you only have a few (maybe 4) inches of space to shove whatever you can under there. You could always go in through the sides or the back (which are higher), but my crib is positioned to where the only accessible area is the front (in a corner against the wall with his dresser pieces next to the open side), so although I have put things there, I constantly have to shift furniture to get to my stuff under there.

-Wood dents easily. By easily, I mean VERY easily. The "sleigh" portions of the front & back as well as the basic frame are soft wood, and when I attached my sons mobile to it, the piece that screws it into place left TONS of dents all over the inside of the crib. On the good side, the color didnt rub/flake off at all, so it's not noticable unless you feel or look for it. But it is definitely a downside, especially in my case, since i regularly moved his mobile from his crib to his bassinet and playpen and back to the crib. everytime I reattached the mobile, I got more dents.

-The openings in the bars seem rather wide. This is not an issue for me, as my son (2yrs old) is still not even holding his head up, so he's not mobile at all. BUT, I can fit lots thru those little openings, and it leads me to believe that little 6 month baby arms & legs could possibly fit thru and get stuck. Not good. And as for my case, a stuck leg or arm (when he gets to the point where he can) could cause a severely broken bone. Very big red flag, but thats just an observation.

Overall, I love this crib. I wouldnt take it back or change it. I love that it comes with everything to covert it (not like some other cribs which you have to buy "converter kits"). When we have guests over for a long period we bust out our extra mattress and transition this to a full frame and it works wonderful and looks great. I would recommend this to anyone who needs a good crib for a good price.

Before buying this crib I read every review on Amazon about cribs, or that's what it felt like anyway! I was about to buy the DaVinci brand when I took a trip to babies r us and was taken back by how soft the wood was, so we went with this one. I was worried about it being easily scratched or not arriving in perfect condition but when it came all the pieces were intact and it was a breeze to put together, it took my husband and I about 45min. I would recommend having 2 people though. It's very sturdy, you don't get the wobbly feeling that sometimes comes with cheaper cribs. I love the color, it was dark like I wanted and as for the smell that everyone was horrified by, I think that anytime a wood has a finish it needs sometime to air out, it was noticeable for about a day and then was good to go. I did read some complaints about the mattress not fitting, we ordered the Sealy foam core mattress and there isn't even a tad bit of room for you to stick your fingers in, it's a perfect fit. I would recommend this to anyone who doesn't want to sacrifice quality but needs to stay in a low end budget. As with anything a few scratches are bound to happen, we did notice a small indentation on one of the sides but you wouldn't even notice unless you did a thorough inspection (which of course as parents we do) Also, the directions are attached to the mattress board so you can't ever lose them for when it's time to convert!
