This is seriously the BEST humidifier I have ever purchased. It is superior to all others.

The humidistat accurately displays the current humidity in the room and allows the machine to run on "auto pilot."

The craftsmanship and parts are of the highest quality.

The machine holds more water than the advertised 2.5 gallon reservoir. This is because the actual machine holds approximately one and a half reservoirs of water. When you first place the filled water reservoir on the machine it completely empties into the machine. You can then refill the reservoir and when you place it on the machine again half of the reservoir will empty into the machine. You can then tap off the reservoir and now the machine plus the reservoir is holding approximately five and a half gallons of water. Its great, you rarely have to add water.

It has the perfect fan speeds. Some humidifiers have fan speeds that are too low or too high. Not this one, each speed is great for its appropriate use.

Another great aspect of this machine is that it only has one filter. Other large capacity humidifiers like this one take up to two filters. Thus this machine is cheaper to maintain because you only have to replace one filter.

This humidifier is a really nice, compact unit that is simple to operate, operates very well, and delivers a lot of performance despite its small size.

It's not as high-style as many others on the market, but since it's compact, it can be tucked away unobtrusively.

Besides, I wasn't looking for a humidifier to make a design statement, I wanted to humidify the air and NOT look at the machine doing it.

This is an excellent unit if yours arrives perfectly functioning out of the box.

I didn't give this five stars because ours arrived with an out-of-balance fan.

It wasn't obnoxiously bad, but the unit did vibrate a fair amount and was noisy, even on low fan speed, when we first got it.

I'm very handy with this sort of thing, so rather than go through the hassle and expense of exchanging it, I just fixed it.

I removed three screws holding the top cover on, sprung two hold-down clips and the top came right off.

The fan is a fairly light five-blade plastic, so just a light pull here and a soft push there got it even and spinning smoothly.

It took me all of 5 minutes to set it right.

Since then it runs VERY quietly on the low speed, which is all we need.

This quality-control check SHOULD have been done at the factory, but it wasn't.

If it had, then this would have been a five star PLUS review.

Yours may not might arrive with this problem, but caveat emptor!

I've had this humidifier for about two weeks now long enough to fall in love with it. I have some doubts about its ability to actually cover as large an area as it claims, but I am using it for a work room of approx. 300 square feet, and for that purpose it has so far performed flawlessly. The total basin and tank capacity, combined, is about 2.4 gallons. On the lowest setting, where it has been most of the time, refilling is only required about once in 24 hours in very dry atmospheric conditions. I really like the ability to set a desired humidity level (for me, usually 45 or 50% RH). Once that is done (with a simple push of a button), the unit will automatically power itself on or off as needed. Because the unit's built-in hygrometer inlet is located on its power cord, I initially had some doubts about whether it would actually humidify the entire space to the set level my thinking was that the humidity level would be accurate only in the immediate vicinity of the unit because of the location of its RH gauge. I was wrong. The separate hygrometers I have placed in different spots in the room confirm that the humidity output from the Essick MA0800 is distributed evenly throughout the room. Regarding the noise level, on the lowest setting it is virtually silent. On the intermediate level ("2"), it is definitely audible but not so loud as to interfere with work or studying I actually like it because it provides a nice level of unobtrusive "white noise." The highest level is pretty loud unpleasantly so, I'd say but I don't imagine I will ever need to use that setting. Overall, I am extremely pleased, especially considering the low price compared with similar units.

Honest reviews on 8 Gallon Evaporative Air Multi Room Humidifier

I bought this humidifier Winter 2010. It lives up to its promises. I have a 1400 sq. ft. apartment with 20 ft. cathedral ceilings and it is a gem. You must be diligent about using the anti-algae product with it or the air will sour. I fill mine up like every 12 hours and run it on the moderate speed usually. I only have it on high when it is brittle-cold.

The only complaints I would have is that the filters MUST be bought online and except for cleaning the inner fan, it is easy maintenance.

Had for a year.... love it and it works quickly if I've let it dry. Filters with my hard water need replacing a couple times a year but they're fairly inexpensive. A great little unit for 1000-2000 square foot home.
