I do not know the exact insect that is under a wood piece along a roof eave, and near a bbq area. They seem to be some sort of wasp. There is no visible nest, but from the in and out activity and number of insects it seemed like something that should be taken care of. The week before using this W-H-Y spray, I had tried a can of Hot Shot wasp killer. It did nothing, I did not even see a single insect die. All it did was wet the area and the insects did not seem to care. This time I tried a different tact. First I hit the entire area with a single stream of water to wash out whatever was under the wood. This certainly agitated the insects. I let it dry and then got out the W-H-Y.
The first thing you notice is the smell of this spray. Being composed of a number of concentrated oils like lemongrass, geranium, and rosemary... the aroma certainly does not smell like pesticide. In fact, it is quite the opposite--it smells sweet like flowers and herbs--very pleasant. The stream from the can was strong and shot easily up about 10 feet. It coated the wood around the area. I did not see anything die, but the one thing that has happened is that the insects are now very confused, and not hanging around very long before flying off without doing anything else.
I am usually not much on so called natural solutions, as they often do not work. But this stuff seems to work--not so much as an insecticide (of course, the other so called wasp killer did not work either), but certainly as an effective repellent. Time will tell, but if this effect persists for a week, I would suspect that the all the insects will get the message "nothing to see, move along" and abandon this area.
