New, out of the box, I turned this dehumidifier on and what a noise it made.

I removed the cabinet from around the unit and found that the fan blades were striking the top of the compreser. Because the threads of two of the three bolts that hold the compresser in place were stripped and the nuts could not be tightened down on those bolts thus the compresser leaned over to get itself under the fan blades. I added washers to the bolts so that the nuts didn't have as far to go to tighten and re-applied the nuts which pulled the compresser upright and now the fan blades don't hit. The person who installed those compresser nuts had to know they had stripped the bolts but sent it out to the customer anyway.

Now, two days later and the pump doesn't pump.

I've written DeLonghi telling them that I will ship the unit at my expense to either DeLonghi or Amazon, their choice but that I wanted my money back.

I'll keep you posted.

Despite the negative review of this product, I decided to try it since it had all the features I was looking for. Especially the pump. I bought this for my Mom who recently moved and the basement was damp and smelly. The previous owner left a Sears dehumidifier but it did not remove a drop of water from the air. I had an old Edison one that I lent my Mom. It worked fine but if you didn't put the bucket in the exact proper position, it would overflow. Since my Mom is a senior citizen, I wanted one that would automatically pump the water into the utility sink she had in the basement. So, this Delonghi met this important criteria to me.

After about three weeks of use, I have nothing but praise for this product. It is very quiet and has a long hose. It can pump the water up to ten feet high and it does this magnificently. You can also program it and adjust the amount of humidity you want to remove.

The basement no longer smells and you can set this dehumidifier up and forget about it. It removes a lot of water within a short period of time (depending on the humidity level you set it for and the amount in the air) and then shuts off when it reaches the setting. Since we got it we have not had to even concern ourselves with it at all. There was absolutely no problem setting it up. I would recommend this product to anyone.

I originally bought this unit because it claimed to be quiet. Quiet doesn't matter if it doesn't work. The first unit ran for 2 days and collected only a cup of water, while my older unit on the other side of the basement fills in 3 days. The second unit keeps freezing up. It would blow out super hot air and the humidistat would display an unusually high %; when you turn it off, the coils would melt and drip water. The box claims that it has a self deice cycle, but it did not work. The box also claims it's good for basements because it can work at temps as low as 50deg. Their tech support said that at 70deg. you need to set it to 50% or higher or it will freeze, and the deice cycle can not be relied upon. My basement smells pretty bad at 45% and higher. My new Frigidair works great.

Bought this unit 2 years ago. Pump died after 2 months. Brought it to a certified repair center. It took the company 8 months to figure out that they can't send the repair center a pump, so about 3 months ago, they finally sent me a brand new unit, and yesterday, the pump died again on the new unit. Stay away from this dehumidifier. The pump stinks. Oh, and this new unit leaks as much water as it sucks from the air. Stay away. The pump was a good idea but, if it doesn't work, then whats the point? STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRODUCT

I paid over $300 for the DE 400P. It worked OK for about 8 months then the pump stopped working. The only reason I was willing to pay so much was for the pump. Delonghi service people have been NO help and argumentative. They tell me I must ship it to NY for them to repair. The packaging and shipping costs alone make this prohibitive. I asked to speak with a manager and got voice mail. I left a message 3 weeks ago and did not get any return call. I called back today and again got the managers voice mail.

As far as I am concerned I have never purchased a product that was so poorly supported by the manufacturer. I will never purchase another Delonghi product of any kind. And I suggest you consider where the repair centers are before you purchase one.
